IMessages being sent to multiple contacts

My family updated our phones yesterday to ios6.  Today when I imessage any one of the other phones on the plan, all the phones on the plan get the messages.  Obviously this isn't good and I can't figure out how to fix it.  I sent a message to my boyfriend and both he and my son received the message.  When either of them imessaged back (imessage), two of us received the message.  Any suggestions on fixing this?

    Hi Keywestsuz!
Good info given so far! I will be more than happy to assist you with creating an apple id. Click to create an apple id http://bit.ly/QZTx1O. Once you have created the new Apple Id you will need to sign in on the device with new id.
Thanks,

my imessages are being sent on multiple phones and i deleted the icloud account on the other phone but the messages still go through how do I stop this?
Do you think deleting the message off the phone would make a difference?

If you don't enter an e-mail address, it just uses SMS and MMS. iMessages (sent over the data connection instead of using your SMS messaging plan) require an e-mail address registered on the device.
There is no requirement that you activate it.

  • HT3529 SMS sent to multiple contacts were converted into mms.

SMS sent to multiple contacts were converted into mms, text only 61 characters long including spaces. Carrier O2 have said it is an known issue with apple products. This has cost me £50 to say happy new year to my family and friends. Anyone know of this issue with iPhone. Called into apple store who were unaware of this? Everyone blaming each other as usual! Can't see in term and conditions for O2 or apple that this would happen. The message is stored on the phone as a text message! Thanks

Thanks Tim, apple say the same thing, carrier's method of handling multiple SMS creates this issue, can't see anywhere which alerts the customer to this on terms and conditions so back to O2 it is then!

  • Why is my iMessage being sent as a text message?

A couple of days ago I installed iOS 5 on my iPhone 4. Now, for my contacts who also own iPhones, iMessages seem to be activated. When I send a message, the bubble is blue, indicating an iMessage.
But then, a few minutes later, these messages are turning green, and underneath them is a line saying "sent as Text message".
Is this a bug? Why's this happening? At the moment, iMessage seems to be useless, at least for me. (I'm in Canada, working on a Bell contract. Does that factor in?)

    I'm having this problem also.
Both my wife and I have an iPhone 4 running iOS5, we were texting using iMessage, and it was working but then for some strange reason, the last 3 or so messages we sent got sent as text, but it didn't show them being sent as a text, until you left iMessage, and returned to it.
The problem was, I had sent 2 pictures through iMessage, they got sent as MMS, and I got charged for them.
Apple need to split iMessage from sms, instead of rolling them in the same app, that way you know your in iMessage, and you know when your in sms.
Why apple have decided to leave them in the same app is a mystery.
    Sort it out Apple.

  • Switched from iPhone to Android and now iMessage being sent instead of Text

A friend of mine recently switched from iPhone to Android and now my text are being sent as iMessage instead of text and he obviously isn't receiving it. How do I fix this bug. I'm using iPhone 4 running iOS 5

I apologize about the odd style but I'm using voice rec software.  I just got the Galaxy S five and I have this problem too after weeks of searching online I finally figured out the problem it is with iMessage even if you have your old phones imessage switched off. you have to get your friends to text you normally and send. If the text bubble shows up blue, press and hold choose option send as SMS or text and the bubble will change to green green means SMS blue is the iMessage so its up to the iPhone user to take literally a half of an extra step to send a text to you and if they don't do that then they're just jerks

  • Imessages being sent as SMS messages

A majority of my text messages are being sent as SMS messages and I get charged for these. I work in an office with Wi-Fi and so does the person I am Texting.
I don't want to turn off the "Send as SMS" button in fear of not receiving undeliverable messages. What is wrong?
    Many Thanks!

When imessage is unavailable it will send it as a text message:
symptoms - user/recipient are in an area where the cellular data or wifi signal is week.
Or one person has imessage turned off.

  • Why are my iMessages being sent to my father's iPhone as well as mine?

I updated my iPhone to the newest software last night, and now all of my iMessages are being sent to my father's phone. My messages are only linked to my number, iCloud account and email. His is nowhere on it. What is going on?

You visually verified that on both phones?  If so, I'm not sure what the problem is... don't know how that could happen unless your emails matched.
Try turning iMessage off on one or both and then back on.

  • IMessages being sent as SMS with Send as SMS turned off

I had an unhappy experience with iMessage. I had about a 1 1/2 hour period on 4/9 where my iMessages were being sent as SMS texts. I have Send as SMS set to Off and I have never had this happen before. I don't remember the iMessages screen changing to indicate it was sending as SMS.
Overall very strange since there should be no way that the messages were sent as SMS with Send as SMS turned off. This is a problem because  I do not have a messaging plan since I don't use SMS so if it switches to SMS and I don't know it the charges could rack up. The hour and a half cost me $8 in SMS charges as it is.
If having Send as SMS set to off does not insure that messages are not sent as SMS texts then what will?

Yes, they were listed as SMS messages on my bill. I was texting all day with one person but it was only this 1 1/2 hour period that was changed to SMS. Nothing before or after that and it's never happened before to me. All very strange. The problem is that if this happened for a longer period it would get very costly and I would not notice it untill I got the bill.
I'm getting my gf to add her email address to her messages account and I will be messaging that from now on. Hopefully iMessage can't turn that into an SMS.
It would be great if there were some way to actually prevent iMessage from sending SMS, but the Send as SMS setting obviously does not work. The only other thing I can think is that it was sending the texts as MMS messages. There is not much if any documentation on the relationship between MMS, SMS, and iMesssage.

  • Imessages being sent using email address how do I correct

I recently reactivated my iPhone 6 and now my imessages are being sent via my email address not my phone # how do I correct this?

  • Links being sent to my contacts

All my contacts are receiving links to google, Facebook, tumbler and other sites with their tnames being put into the link so they click. HOW is this happening? Is this a virus? I already scanned my pc many times.. Is this some sort of skype partnership with google or facebook and other sites to get more people to visit the sites and skype gets money?

I am having the same issue.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled skype and have changed my password.  I have removed some contacts which I have cell phone numbers for; I have blocked everything and allowed notification/calls/messages only from my contacts.  I like using skype but I will not have my contacts bothered by stupidness.   I have tried to contact Skype but have not received a response; I do have a virus checker on my computer but I don't know if it will check messages through skype.  I have to think about that one. I hope there is an answer.

  • Why are my iMessages being sent as if they are from my e-mail?

I am sending texts (iMessages) from my iPhone and people are telling me that it is coming up as if it from my e-mail address on their phone.
I have all my setting correct it seems, and have my phone number checked under "All conversations starting from"
I use my iPad and iPhone to iMessage, but my is my e-mail address showing up on people's phones?  How do I fix it so that it just comes up with my name, like it always have been/should be?

In Settings > Messages > Send and Receive > Start New Conversations From you'll likely see that your email address is checked, so that's why it appears text is coming from your email.  If you want the default to be your phone number, check it instead.

  • Some texts being sent as SMS instead of iMessage

Some of my texts are being sent as SMS (green) instead of iMessages (blue) even though I know these people have iPhones.  It's only certain people it happens to as I have other friends who have iPhones and messages are being sent as iMessages like they should be.  Is there any way to fix this?
    Thanks!

    Hello kaeilli
Thanks for the question. Since the issue is isolated to a few contacts, have you confirmed that these contacts are indeed using iMessage (is it enabled on their iPhone?). If so, see this article:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2755
If you still can't send or receive iMessages
    1. Ensure that iMessage is turned on in Settings > Messages.
    2. To send and receive iMessages, your device must have a valid cellular or Wi-Fi data connection.
               - iPhone: Troubleshooting Cellular data
               - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    3. iMessage registration validates your Apple ID for use with iMessage. If you are unable to activate iMessage, follow this article.
4; If an iMessage cannot be sent, it will be resent using SMS or MMS, depending on the content. You can turn this behavior on or off in Settings > Messages > Send As SMS. Carrier messaging rates may apply.
    5. Verify that the Apple ID or phone number is listed in Settings > Messages > Send & Receive.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.
