IMessages Beta - from iPhone to iPhone number

iMessages for OSX is working well but I don't understand why an iMessage sent from an iPhone to my iPhone shows up on my phone using my phone number but does not show up on iMessage Beta on my Mac? If the iMessage goes to the iMessage server and then is pushed to my iPhone, why does it not push it to my Mac as well? I can initiate an iMessages from my Mac to my iPhone number, and then a reply in the same thread will go from my iPhone to the Mac - but it absolutely won't work when the iMessage is initiated from my iPhone to my Mac? I think it is a bug that simply does not link/push an iMessage to an iPhone number to the OSX iMessage app? Thanks

Actually I hope apple leaves it as is...Its not a an problem, but something I use all the time for example.. A iphone has a phone number associated with it. ipad, ipod and mac do not.. So on iphone you have two options of receiving messages... If they are sent to your iphone number or apple ID or you can set up the phone to receive messagees from both.. Ipad, ipod, and mac do not have a phone number assositaced with them since they are not a phones, so they only receive messages from apple ID... Not like in my household, we all have our own iphones but have one ipad.. So my phone is set up to receive all messages including those from apple ID,  but i do not want ipad to receive messages unless i specifically began a conversation on it as someone else could be part of one's conversation without wanting to be a participant by just using an ipad while I am texting with god knows who on my phone...
To resolve your issue, set up your phone to receive imessages on phone number (default and you can't change that) but also add your apple ID so you can recive messages sent to apple ID on your phone.. Now change your caller ID on the phone to apple ID, so everytime you send a message from the phone it will register as apple ID to other users.. Hence all your devices are in sync... The only issue you are having is if someone specificly begins a new conversation with you on a phone and selects your phone numbers instead of apple ID.. Then it will pop up just on your phone... however I belive your response should change it back to apple ID.. Not sure.. However most people with iOS devices usually scroll through their open conversations list instead of starting a new message from what I have seen, so you should be ok..

Yes and no. You will not be charged for an SMS/MMS message, but it does use cellular data. As long as you don't overrun your monthly allowance, it won't cost you anything extra. It does incur data use, though, and data is not "free".

  • IMessages go through to a specific contact using an iPod while signed into a different iMessage account on an iPad, but iMessages do not go through using my main iMessage account or iPhone number. Have I been blocked?

I have a friend who uses an iPod to iMessage me and about two nights ago, my messages to him from my iPhone were no longer listed as delivered and then I started getting the message "Contact is unavailable. This person cannot be reached by iMessage at this time."  I have my main iMessage email and phone number linked to my iPhone. I decided to try messaging him from an iPad that only has my iMessage email linked to it, and the iPad gave me a message saying his email is not linked to an iMessage account. After that, I tried ANOTHER iPad. This one runs iOS 5 and has a separate iMessage email linked to it and the messages were not listed as delivered, but they did not give me a failure message. I unlinked my main iMessage email from my phone and linked the secondary iMessage email to it. I still got the first message about the contact being unavailable when I attempted to send a message from my iPhone. Then, I messaged him again from the iPad running iOS 5, and the message I sent showed up on my iPhone and was listed as delivered. Is it possible this friend has blocked me? He has not messaged me for two days. I was under the impression a block would simply result in my messages being listed as delivered, not that the contact would be unavailable or that his email is not linked to an iMessage account. Is there any way to force my iPhone to send messages to him using only my iMessage email and not cell phone number?  Is this actually a fluke and he has deleted his iMessage account, but the iPad running iOS 5 did not recognize that? But why would my iphone list the messages as delivered then?

After much research went with Comcast. Package includes 12mbs, phone service, all premium channels, 2 HD dvrs, 1 HD receiver. After promos end I will be paying more, but I'm getting more. Customer service before purchase and installation phenomenal. I actually set up order over phone instead of online because of the customer service. No complaints about Direct TV, but canceeling them also because from having to shop for new Isp resulted in this. My speedtest now says I am 85% faster than most of the U.S. I am very happy. I would consider my verizon problem solved. Oh, free router also.

Please help all surgestions greatlly reacived

When sending a message from Mountain Lion's Message program, you should be careful about the recipient's address.  When you send a message to your dad, you should send it to his iPhone's phone number.
Also, on your Mac's Messages > Preferences > Accounts, you should be logged in under your Apple ID (which is hopefully different from your dad's).
Enjoy your Apple gear!  Indeed, it does "just work".

  • Sync old iMessage conversations from iPhone to new iPad & Mac?

I have had my iPhone for a couple years now, and have accumulated a fairly large amount of iMessage conversations from various people. A few days ago, I purchased my first iPad and also updated my Mac to Mountain Lion. By doing so, I now have access to iMessage on three devices in total, whereas before I only had one.
I have managed to setup my devices so that all new iMessages I send and receive are being synced between them. However, is it possible to sync my old iMessage conversations from my iPhone back onto my iPad and Mac?
I would like to do so in order to keep a full record of the past conversations I have had with my contacts.
I have done a bit of research before posting, but the only related topics I found werehttps://discussions.apple.com/message/19095937 andhttps://discussions.apple.com/message/17818920. The former was left unresolved, whereas the latter describes a solution which I am unable to reproduce.
Could anyone shed some light on this for me?

    Hi,
For me this was very early on in my Mountain Lion days.
I would now say that you cannot sync iMessages from an iOS device that were sent before your linked any Apple ID with the iPhone Number or added the Mac to the use of the Apple ID.
At the point at which and Apple ID is used on both an iPad and the Mac version of Messages becomes it's "Start date"
The same can be said for adding an Apple ID to an iPhone and the Mac.
On the Mac all messages can be saved if you wish.
This are in the .ichat format which you can send to Mac  Buddies and then can open them and read them as if they were the chat (i.e they display as "chats').
There appears to be no way in iTunes to access the iMessages (or SMS ones) on the iPhone.
Someone who knows more about the iOS may be able to tell you if they are accessible another way.

  • IMessage deleted from iPhone not deleted from iPad

I have my iMessages set up so they go to both my iPhone and my iPad and that's great. However, if I delete an iMessage from my iPhone, it does not get deleted from my iPad (and vice versa). Is there any way to set things up so my deletions also get synced? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Deactivate iMessage on your phone, then reactivate it.

  • Remove iMessage link from iPhone

    Hi,

Will it work to brake the link between iMessage me and the 3GS when I remove this telephone from my Support profile under: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do ?
    Thanks for help in advance.

No sure about support profile since I don't use it.
What you can do to stop iMessage going to the iPhone is
go to Settings > Messages > switch iMessage OFF and in Recieve At delete your Apple ID and Caller ID.
Also in Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings.

  • Keeping iMessages sent from iPhone from appearing on iPad

How can I send iMessages from my iPhone and not have them appear on iPads or other devices using the same AppleID?

Okay, either your Topuch or your Macbook has within its email settings the "leave on server" option set - probably the Macbook. This allows you to read the email from both devices, however it will not remove a read email from the server. Only when you look at it from the Touch will the email be cleared off the server.
What most people would do in your circumstance of having two devices trying to read in a coordinated manner a single email account, is to set up the email count as IMAP, so that whichever device gets there first will decide what thes econd device sees.
It also keeps all your mail online so if you have neither your Touch or your MacBook, you can still see all your mail from a webmail browser - not just whats in your inbox at the time.

  • How do I get my iMessages to/from iPhone to also appear on my iPad

Until fairly recently, all iMessages I sent/received appeared on both my iPhone & my iPadmini. Now, they are completely separate. I haven't changed any settings. How do I get back to seeing the iMessages on both devices? Thanks!
(7.1.2 on both devices, iPhone 4S)

On all your devices check Settings/Messages/Send & Receive and ensure they are set to be "reached at" on all your devices. I also set the "Start a new conversation" to my iPhone on all my devices. You may also have to Sign Out of your Apple ID by tapping the ID then sign back in on all or one of your devices.
You may have to do the same for you FaceTime settings.

  • IMessages sent from icloud address/phone number=2 conversations!

This is a long-standing issue that defies resolution. At times, my iphone or my wife's iphone will send iMessages from our iCloud addresses instead of our phone number. So if my wife sends an iMessage to me, I sometimes get a new message from "[email protected]". Although her name, email addresses and phone number are in my Contacts, this new conversation shows up as her email address. We used to think it was because she travels abroad and uses wi-fi in her hotel that caused the phone to use an email address rather than her number because she was out of the UK. Not so! Here's what happened today: My wife sent me and our 2 children iMessages from London Heathrow to us three at home. My message came through as from her email address, my daughter's also came through from her email address, but my son, a few yards down the hallway got his from her phone number.
This is a typical scenario which can work the other way round when it's ME sending her the iMessages where she gets my message as though I'd sent it from my email address rather than the phone number.
I have been through all the hoops I know of to sort this but I just can't fix it. I don't know whether it's the iPhone, iCloud or what that's at fault. But it is driving me mad.
In this morning's case, I replied to her message by using an older (yesterday's) conversation to send my iMessage to her, and her reply to that came to me via her phone number, as expected, and good as gold. Had I just replied to her iMessage, it would have perpetuated the TWO conversations. I have tried logging out and back in, deleting the accounts and reinstating them, re-entering the settings, making sure that the "Start new conversations from..." is set up correctly and so on. Then after a while, it returns, randomly, to sending texts from the email and starts a new conversation again. And you can't combine the 2 conversations even when you go to Details-Add to existing contact etc.
I have also just been informed by a supplier that my iMessages to him are showing up as my email address not my phone number, despite my iphone being set to 'Start conversations from +44777...etc"
Please throw out suggestions as you wish and I'll be grateful, even if it's one I've already tried and failed with.
    This icloud is a nightmare.
    Many thanks in advance.

  • Imessages come from email not cell number

I just got a new Macbook Pro and I am trying to make it so that my imessages come to my phone and my computer.  However when I type a message on my computer it comes from my email.  I went to 1. Messages 2. Preference 3. Accounts and then added my cell phone number but it still won't work....can I get some help?

Sign out of iMessage on the Mac:
Messages ▹ Preferences ▹ Accounts ▹ Sign out
    and on the iPhone:
Settings ▹ Messages ▹ Send & Receive ▹ Apple ID ▹ Sign out
    Then, on the phone, tap
Use Your Apple ID for iMessage
Sign back into iMessage on both devices and test. If there's no change, you may have to wait for a change in network conditions.
