IMessages Broken

I've been having issues with iMessages for a while.
Though it's suppposed to allow a combined login for all my devices, there has been a distinct seperation on my Mac between my phone number and my iCloud email address...
In short though my phone shows both my email and my phone #, the exact same account on my Mac under iMessages shows only my email...
I tried to re-log into the iMessages account on my Mac, and now it's pretty much broken...
It's fully signed out (saying inactive under Accounts).  When I type in my login & password a spinning indicator comes up for around 30 seconds, only to finally indicate "Could not sign in.  Please check your network connection and try again."
Though it was signed in (sans my phone number) a couple minutes ago, I now get this every time.  As best I can tell, nothing has happened to my network between now and then, and all other services on the network (including my phone via WiFi) work as normal...
In essence, my iMessages account under Mavericks has been semi-broken for a while, and now it's fully broken...  I have no idea what else to try...
For the record, these items did NOT help in my case:  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3970

Try deleting your account in Sytem Preferences/Internet Accounts and then add it back again.
If that resolves the problem, Messages/Preferences/Accounts and add your telephone number.

  • Imessage broken by mavericks

I use iChat (now iMessage) as an integral part of my work day, and since I have installed Maverics, I have found a number of features missing.  Is this just me, or did Apple pull a "we know best" and remove critical features?   Firstly, on audio chat, there is no longer a mute button.  Really ?    Secondly, I no longer get audio notification of an incoming IM unless the chat dialog window is on top. I poked around in the notification center, but those controls don't seem to work either.  Also, I can no longer find a setting for making the doc icon bounce.   In fact, there is a whole tab missing on the preferences page for configuring alerts.   Wow !  How dissappointing is that !
Another REALLY ANNOYING new "feature" is that the "typing" bubble that lets you know when the other guy is typing now times out.  If the "other guy" types for longer than say a minute, his typing bubble dissappears, giving the impression he is no longer typing.   This makes expressing complicated thoughts via chat annoying because you can't tell if the other guy as edited himself, or if he's long winded.   Patience and politeness dictates waiting for the other guy to finish.  Can't do that anymore.  Is chat/texting now just for butchered short phrases like "U R late"  ?
Anyone out there know of how to get around poorly concieved changes to a once slick tool ?

    Hi,
You obviously have not missed iChat Theatre yet    .
Yes broadly speaking the Alerts pane in the Preferences has gone.
The only thing you can change the Sound for is the Messages Received item in the General section of the Preferences but this only allows System Sounds or sounds in your ~/Library/Sound folder (other than the Messages Received sound itself)
You cannot switch to other iChat/Messages sounds.
All the other sounds are still there and play whether you want them to or not.
The settings in the Notifications seem to have little impact on whether the sound is heard or not.
There is also a bit of an oddity about where this info is stored.
It used to be in com.apple.ichat.plist
In fact if you have Xcode you can read this and see the individual ones you may have set up are still there along with other sound changes you may have made.
However Messages plays the ones stored in com.apple.soagent.plist which is in ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.soagent/Data/Library/Preferences
I also find that the first messages is always missed sound wise.
It seems to play better if it is the "front" app but will actually play the sounds if you then moved it to the background.
I have not found any workarounds fro this yet.

Anyone still having issue with this?

    Hi,
Apple should be aware, see the post below, and feel free to report the bug using the URLs in the post, the more people report this the sooner I hope apple attend to it and get it fixed.

  • IMessage on Mountain Lion sending broken links to iOS

OS 10.8.4 iMessage (Jabber Account [Gmail?]) is not sending links to iOS correctly. They are a long mangled mess that the recipient cannot click on. I have tried using URL shortening services but the same think occurs. The link is repeated about 15 times and broken. I receive links from iOS iMessage perfeclty fine. Any ideas?

    Hi,
There seems to be some confusion here.
A Jabber account in Messages cannot send to iMessages contacts.
Do you mean that your Apple ID used in Messages for your iMessages account is actually a Google email ?
I typed a piece of text (two words) and then highlighted them and used the CMD + k key option in the Edit Menu to add a link.
A dialogue box pops up and you can add the Link and the two words become a Link.
I then sent it to my iPhone (or at least tried to)
The actual iMessages appeared as a synced Message as well in the Mac Messages app main window as being sent back from the iPhone.
On the iPhone itself it only appeared as plain text.
For me sending a link as Plain text arrives as a link at the iPhone.
This link worked despite being long and forced over three lines of text on the iPhone.
You could of course be using  Google Login on a Browser on the iOS devices and chatting that way
You could have found a Jabber app for the iPhone and be using that.
In both these cases you would be sending from the Google Account in Messages.

  • I am trying to imessage from my mac because my phone is broken, where is the message icon on my mac?

i am trying to imessage from my mac because my phone is broken, where is the message icon on my mac?

The easiest way to find it would be to type "messages" in spotlight.  Spotlight is the magnifying glass on you menu bar at the top right of the screen.

  • My iphone is broken, text from other phone go to ipad as an imessage. How do i stop this?

My iphone 4 is broken, cannot access anything on there at all.  I am currently using my sim in an old Samsung phone, whenever I text someone that has an iphone or they text me I do not receive the reply it go to my ipad as an iMessage.
I need to stop this as missing lots of messages!  How do I do this?
    Many thanks

To fix this requires puttting your sim in your iPhone 4 & turning iMessage off...which you say you can't do; logging into your Apple support profile online & removing your iPhone 4...that is if you setup a support profile. You can also go to Settings>Messages>Send/Receive, on your iPad, and remove your phone number.

  • How do I turn off iMessages on a 3GS which is broken?

My 3GS is broken - screen damaged and LED failed.
I now have a new phone but is is an Android. The telephone number has been ported to the new phone but when anyone with an iPhone messages me it automatically switches to iMessage and sends it to the bust phone even though it's not functioning.
The failure of the 3GS is complete and there is no way of accessing it and making any changes through any of the phone settings.
Is there a way of unregistering it from the iMessage server as at the moment none of my friends and colleagues can contact me by message.

If you registered your iPhone with Apple you can do the following:
    1.          Go to: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do
Log in if not already logged in.
    Click on "edit products"
Click on the "x" to the right of the product.
    Click "unregister"
    This deactivates number with iMessage.

  • IMessage Suddenly Broken

I dug out my iPod Touch 5th generation again after preparing to sell it (and giving up) and restored all my stuff back onto it, including linking it with my iCloud account. Also, I previously used my family's Apple ID but seperate "Send and Receive" addresses so we all could just use iMessage without messing with making new Apple IDs, etc, but I made a new one to make my own iCloud account to clear up some issues a few months back. So I have been happily using my iPod and iPad, iMessage has worked on both, everything was fine. However, I was using iMessage when on my iPod, and the battery died so I went and reached for my iPad, composed the message again, and tried to send. Immediately, "failed to send". I then exit the app, re enter and I am completely signed out, I try signing back in, "iMessage Activation" "An error occurred during activation. Try again" I finally manage to sign in again on my iPod ONLY, iPad still won't work. I find out that the email other than my Apple ID email in "Send and Receive" completely disappeared. I wasn't using my Apple ID email for send and receive because it isn't the email that I used previously for iMessage, so I wouldn't be in people's contacts. Anyway, now I'm trying to re add my old send and receive email, but it gets stuck in validating, I receive no validation email or anything. I have tried restarting, etc, no luck. My iPads date was off when I first reached for it, which may have caused the issue, but I fixed it, then proceeded with the steps I mentioned before. How can I fix iMessage??

    Hi XTheLancerX,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of the issue you are describing, as well as the configuration you are trying to set up between your devices. If you are having issues activating or verifying (validating?) your account/email in iMessage, you may find the following articles helpful:

  • IMessage sync broken

This post does not involve syncing iMessages with my Mac, which I never upgraded to Mountain Lion 10.8 (it remains on Lion 10.7).
Rather, it is about the failure of iMessage to sync between my iDevices: iPhone 5 and WiFi-only iPad Mini, both running on iOS 6.1.2 currently.
iMessage is configured exactly alike on both devices.  Whenever I send or receive a text message, whether the recipient or sender is an idevice user or not, the messages show up on both devices just fine.  And yet if I delete a conversation on one device it remains on the other.  I am expecting a deletion in one device to seamlessly sync on the other without duplicate effort on my part.
Why is this sync failure happening?   It is highly puzzling not to say annoying.

Let me add that the problem is not specific to iOS 6.1.2, as it has been a problem long before this release.
Like you, clent, I have turned iMessage on/off on both devices more times than I care to remember, and while on at least the last two flavors of iOS.  And I know my iMessage settings are properly established on both devices, exactly alike on each.   As I wrote, messages sent & received populate/render just fine on both devices at once, regardless if the recipient or sender is also on an iDevice.   The problem remains the syncing behavior when deleting conversations.  I expect conversations that I delete on one device to also disappear on the other.  But no.

  • I've broken iMessages :/

I will try my best to be brief...
I log in and out of iMessages on the Macbook daily. everything was working fine, and each day I logged in it synched up with iPhone, until one day it didn't.
So I switched off iMessage on the iPhone to try and rest it, and in meantime tested sending messages from Macbook. When I reinitiated iMessage on iPhone it didn't synch the already sent messages. And has never synched properly since.
Only started a few weeks ago, around the time I went to 8.3beta, I think...but I can't be sure it was due to that.
So I have messages on my iPhone, and messages on my Macbook, and I want/need them to all merge and synch and have the same messages on both.
    Please help
I have 3 addresses for iMessages, Phone number, Apple ID email and iCloud email. All three are ticked to S/R on both devices, and both say to send new message from phone number
Text Message Forwarding and Hand Off is disabled on iPhone as is Send As SMS

    Hi,
The answer is not that short either.
Each device you register with iMessages has a specific login to that server.
The process on the Mac involves the Mac's own Serial Number and the Apple ID password that create an Auth token kept in the Keychain.
I have seen instances where in the iPhone > Settings > Messages the iPhone Number as become Unticked  (Inactive) despite it being greyed out and not alterable by the user.
Many people are reporting issues with Macs logging in and syncing like they should.
The outcome of this device specific stuff is that the iMessages servers duplicate the iMessages for as many devices as you have.
The iMessages are then sent individually to each device.
If a device has lost it registration then it does not get sent the iMessages.
Once that have been delivered they are deleted so even if you had to reset a device it cannot get back ones it did receive in the first place.
If you had a period when one  device was not logged in properly and did not get iMessages  but now it is again - there is no way to get the "missing" iMessages as the server does not keep them.
