IMessages delayed to iPhone only

When I am sending iMessages from my phone number on my iPhone they send fine. But when I receive a message I hear my iPad ring, then sometimes almost 29 minutes lat my iPhone finally notifies me of the new message. That's not the weird part though. If I hear my iPad ring, then unlock my phone I have an alert badge on the messages app but my phone still won't vibrate or ring for another few minutes. So I can reply to the message but I'm still not notified of it immediately. I'd like to receive message notifications instantly on my iPhone first as that is what I'm using for texting. My text messages through the cell provider come through right away so why is it that my iMessages take so long to notify my? Both the iPad and iPhone are on wifi so it's not the network speed
Please help

Figured it out:
She recently enabled iMessages on her iPad. All the messages were sending there...but what still confuses me is that the messages went through even when she didn't have wifi on either devices...
ah well. I'll save that for another day. I've solved my frustrations lol. Thanks for the help!

The problem is that i no longer have that Ipad but my ex girlfriend does and we no longer communicate. How do i receive Imessage on MY PHONE ONLY or delete other devices not in my possession from my messages?

You need to change your Apple ID password.  You could login to Find My iPhone and wipe that iPad if you felt the need to do so.

  • Does imessage work with iphones only?

Does Imessage only work for iphones or does it work with android too?

Ok folks, here is a question for you Mac gurus!
You said any iphone running iOs 5 and above?
what can you tell me about using iphone 3Gs phones?
my wife and my mother both have these phones.
    They are iOS 6.1.x
and messages is the GREEN app for regular SMS
I wish to help my mother and wife to use the iMessage service.
Like you said above I set them each up with an APPLE ID
But, I have not been able to teach the or download any iMessage app because that I think is for later phones.
    Is this correct?
Is iMessage a feature for only iPhone 4 and above?
If not how can I work with the MESSAGES app and not use the CELLULAR SMS *(currently with us is AT&T ala carte which is like owning a payphone ....not good)
    thanks for any information

  • How do I iMessage from my iPhone to an iPad user?

I can iMessage from an ios5 iPhone to another iPhone and from an iPad to another iDevice all OK
but how do you enter an email address into iMessage on an iPhone so I can iMessage an iPad user? The problem is that iMessage on the iPhone only allows you to enter phone numbers or contacts (which are then restricted to phone numbers even though they may have email addresses associated with them) ?
    Regards
    Gary

I noticed that the emails show without @ and .
Tried to imitate it, I even noticed that some letters are capitalized tried doing so too...
    But no it doesn't work...
You either have to access it from contacts, or type the email in the message box then copy and paste in the recipient's box, or simply wait till thy person contacts you to reply...
Which for me is a real bothering issue...
This needs to be fixed ASAP to allow us to write an email in the recipient box in iMessage, and it needs to allow us to choose an email and not just a phone number once a contact is chosen from within the message.app...
It's definitely a bug, or let's say a slip... I can't see how all those developers who beta tested didn't notice it!!!
    And it needs fixing ASAP...

  • If I turn off iMessages on my iphone 5 and only use SMS, I am hoping this will this stop ALL my messages going to partners ipad? I only want 2 use SMS and not have any of my messages go to partners ipad so dont want to alter ipad settings.

My situtation is this, my soon to be ex previously set up an ipad with both our numbers and we share a linked itunes/icloud account so if my phone is off he gets all my messages via his ipad that I DO NOT have access to his ipad at ALL. I can't set up my own itunes account (not yet until I leave him) otherwise he will know I am leaving him and it will cause major problems. So I was hoping that if I turn off iMessages on my iphone 5 and just talk to my family via SMS and NOT touch his precious ipad mini, that he wont be able to get my messages anymore and if I turn off iCloud storage and back up as well on my iphone only. Is this correct? Its just a temporary solution I am hoping. I have searched for days and hours and I just cant find this answer anywhere....
Do I HAVE to turn off my phone number off or delete it on his ipad? I am really hoping I can just do this at my own end and not touch his ipad in anyway or have to change my itunes id YET. Once I leave him shortly, I will create a whole new ID etc.  I just wanna know if I can do this myself on my iphone only. Please any experienced help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so very much.

SMS messages will not go to the iPad Mini. It's not capable of receving them. If you have access and can do it without it causing a problem, remove your iPhone from the Apple ID Support profile:
    Go to: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do
Log in if not already logged in.
    Click on "Edit Products"
Click on the "X" to the right of the product.
    Click "Unregister"
If anyone in your family uses iMessage, they will go to both you and your boyfriend unless you do that.
To be completely safe, you may want to simply use an alternate message app such as Skype, Viber, Whatsapp (assuming everyone has a smartphone) until the issue is resolved. Google Voice will also allow you to send and receive texts to another number on your phone.
    Best of luck.

    Hi An Iphone user,
If you are having issues deleting a specific message from an iMessage conversation (not seeing the Trash icon), you may want to double-check that you are following the steps outlined in the following article:
How do I delete a message?
To delete a message, tap and hold the message bubble, then tap More.
Tap Delete All to delete all the messages. Or tap to select the messages you want to delete, then tap .
After you delete a message, you can recover it only by restoring from a backup.

Ever since I enabled iMessage on my Mac Airbook, I can no longer receive text messages from the iMessage people on my iPhone, only on my iMessage now!!  How do I get the messages to reach both iMessage and iPhone??

We are suffering very similar issues when communicating from my iphone to a friend who has both iphone and iPad enabled.
As long as I reply to an existing text chain, then it is visible on the target iphone.  If I SMS the phone number, it gets routed to the IPAD!!   And NO, I should not have to disable imessage when I want to send an SMS!!

  • My iphone only recieves IMessages from other IPhone users, even if i'm not using imessage at the time.

So for whatever reason, whenever i text other iphone users, and one of us uses IMessage, my phone will only recieve their texts when i'm connected to wifi, even if we both stop using it. For example, i'll text a friend while temporarily using wifi or 4G, and then for the rest of the day, or maybe even longer (it may be permanent, i'm not entirely sure), i'll be completely unable to recieve any texts from them unless i connect to wifi. Sometimes, connecting to 4G again doesn't even allow me to recieve the texts. I'm not sure if this is a hardware or a settings problem, so i'm posting this here. I know it's not a service problem, because i can have normal conversations with my friends using Android, no interruptions or weird breaks in service. I can't afford to turn IMessage off, as i find it extemely useful, money saving, and I often find myself in wifi areas, but during those times i'm not it's extremely annoying because i'm forced to wait a long time just to recieve a short text.

I have taken it back to the Apple store genius bar, but they say they don't see anything wrong. Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. But over time, some of my contacts have started showing up, although i am still missing over 800 of them.

  • Stuck on iMessage with non-iPhone

I have an iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0.1. My friend had an iPhone 4S for about a week, until she traded it in for an Android phone. For that week that we both had iPhones, we were obviously using iMessage. Now that she no longer has iOS, we (obviously) cannot use iMessage. With that said, it still shows up as "iMessage" in the text box when I go to her in my Messages. Whenever I try to send her a text, it appears as if it was sent as an iMessage, but then in a couple minutes will turn green (like a normal text message) and say "Sent as text message" under it. There is a one to two minute delay in between when I press send and when the message is actually sent because the phone is trying to send it as an iMessage, gives up, and sends it as a traditonal SMS. Messages from her appear as green (SMS). What can I do so my iPhone realizes that she is not using an iPhone and will instantly send it as a text message? I have tried deleting the thread from my messages and starting a new one, typing in her number manually in that new message, and disabling and then enabling iMessage. None of this works. I obviously could turn off iMessage to avert this situation, but I actually use it with other people and don't want to get rid of it. Is there anything else I can do? Thank you!

So really what you're saying is that the issue is technically dependent on her line and that there's nothing I can do from my end only to fix it?
Yep. Key is turning iMessage off, which can only be done while such is active. Happens with stolen phones. I suspect Apple will address this, but until they do, I know of no other solution. And no, a restore won't fix things, so don't waste your time.

  • How do I get Messages to sync with iMessage on my iPhone?

I have read all of the reviews and seen all of the intro videos for Mountain Lion and where they say that Messages from my MBP (using Mountain Lion) will sync seemlessly with the iMessages on my iPhone.  I have yet to be able to figure out how to make this happen.  I send test Messages to other iPhone users (using iMessage on phone and Messages on MBP) and the recipients are saying that they are getting my message but it opens a new/different conversation each time.  On my end, I see none of the messages from my phone coming over to the computer.
If someone could point me in the right direction, I would be very appreciative!

its supposed to be between OSX and iOS devices only, hence the iMessage name. But i am having the same problem as everybody. I send a message from my phone and it pops up on my sisters phone as the contact info she previously entered into her phone. When i send a message from my iMac, it sends it in a completely new conversation to her phone with my email address, or Apple ID, as the sender.
What has seemed to have had some effect so far, pull out your iPhone. Go to settings> messages> recieve at... then enter your apple id at the top if it isnt already there. tap caller id and switch it to your email instead of your phone #.
the problem with that is everyone sees your messages being sent from your email. But it did make the messages i sent from my mac appear on my phone....and the messages i recieved on my phone appear on my mac.
Its still kinda stupid how this app functions though

  • IMessage on the iPhone 6 doesn't allow me to sign in with my current email

    Hey guys,
So here's the problem - I can send and receive texts/iMessages on my iPhone 6. I cannot, however, hook up my macbook pro to the same account to use the messaging service with, as Apple has said would be possible (answer texts on my macbook pro via the Messages app).
I'm trying to add my AppleID/iCloud user account (email and pw are now the same, after all my troubleshooting to make things easier) on my iPhone in Settings->Messages->Send & Receive->Add An Email. All I have that shows up is my phone number, but when I tap "Add An Email," one screen pops up for a split second (picture 1) with my current email address, as if it'll let me log in, and then it immediately disappears- followed by a pop up box which only allows me to log in with my old email address. How do I get the pop up box to either show my current email address or not pop up in the first place, so I can log in? (I don't know how I got the screengrab for picture 1.. it disappears in less than a second.)
Again, I can message/text on my phone perfectly well, but I cannot connect it to my Messages app on my macbook pro, in order to answer people's messages from there. I've tried logging in and out of all the various services and switching the email account back to my old one (which worked for iMessage, but then I couldn't use the App Store with that old email address- so choosing the lesser of two evils, I reverted to my current email address and the problem at hand returned).
Now I've called Apple support and I'm waiting on them to call me back with a security code they may or may not have, which they apparently sent out to some users to let them use iMessage. I'm supposed to somehow use this code to get this all working...if they have the code. Which they, themselves sent me. Which is apparently more secure than a fingerprint.
I'm having my doubts about them, so I'm looking here for help.
Hope you guys could follow that and thanks in advance...

Actually, I was very fortunate to have had this issue resolved. I restarted my computer and tried again and this time, for some reason, Adobe accepted my credentials and allowed me to sign in.

  • IMessages to an iPhone occasionally appears with words cut off from end

When sending texts from iMessages to an iPhone, the text occasionally appears on their iPhone with a couple words cut off from the end.  It appears fine in the iMessages display/history.   Here's a few things I've noticed:
    - It's repeatable.  For example, the following message always causes the issue:  "man, why are you here?  Two are in testing places".  On the iPhone it appears as "man, why are you here?  Two are in testing".
    - It's a problem with iMessages.  If I send the exact same text from the iPhone, it goes through just fine.  The message has to originate from MacOS iMessages.  (I'm using the latest Mountain Lion and all updates as of 12/21/12)
    - The full message is actually being successfully transferred to the phone;  it just does not display correctly.  There are two pieces of evidence for this.  If on the iPhone, the user copies the truncated message and pastes it somewhere else, the full message is pasted!  Moreover,  on the top level the messages app (where you see the last message from all the recent people you texted with), the full message displays.
    - It can happen with both short and longer messages.   Here's another longer message I noticed got cut off: "That's funny that you though I was joking when I said I was debugging.  Why is that so weird?"
    - It has something to do with the length of the message or how it is being wrapped.  I can create modifications of those texts with the same length, and they will cut off. (That said, some modifications will not cause the problem, so it's more than just length.  Maybe it has something to do with how it wraps the words?)  Usually adding a few words to the message will allow it to go through.
    - It always cuts off at a space.  In other words, it will not truncate something in the middle of a word.
    - I have only seen it cut off one or two words before.
Apple really needs to make this a high priority fix.  Unreliable messaging of this sort is a deal-breaker for iMessages, IMO.  My guess is that they haven't had more reports for this because people simply don't notice unless the last word or two totally ruins the meaning of a text and the other person points it out.
Can people try to recreate this on their machines?  If so, please do so and file a bug report (http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html).  All you have to do is get on your iMessage app and text one of those two messages to your phone.  If it appears truncated on your phone, you've confirmed it.  You're welcome to use any of my post in any bug report.

    Hi,
    some entries had    (tabs probably)
I had seen these in Quicklook at the point where the Message appeared to show double spaces after a Full Stop or Question Mark.
You are right that it have not dawned on me that I had not seen them between words.
It was TextEdit as well (Not sure why I said QuickLook)

Part of this means the iMessages sent out.
The "repeat" is the sync back from the the ID  the iPhone is using.
I am presuming the leading numbers are the iMessage identifier that iMessages uses to tell whether it has been Synced
