IMessages don't deliver over WiFi, even when the other person is on the same network

My iPhone 'sends as text message' far more often than others. With full bars of 3G and even on WiFi it just doesn't want to send an iMessage (generally about 1 in 5).
I could understand if the person was dropping out of coverage or had their phone turned off. But I tried an experiment. My girlfriend was complaining about how often my iMessage doesn't work, so on the same WiFi network I tried to send her a message to no avail. The next day I tried the same thing at my house when we were both on my WiFi, didn't work again. Finally, another time out in public, with both iPhones containing full bars of 3G coverage, it still wouldn't work. All three times, five minutes later it would send as text and then begin to work.
Now it does work sometimes, but particularly the first message, and around 1 in 5 after that it just refuses to deliver. Some contacts are more problematic than others, but I figure it's not their fault, as they reckon it only happens with me.
I've tried turning the phone on and off, toggling iMessage, and reseting all settings - and nothing.
It used to be far more reliable when iMessage was first released last year. Now most of my mates with iPhones complain about how long it takes to send me a message.
If anyone has any ideas they would be much appreciated!

Hello sakputnam,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! Let us see if the printer is able to be Pinged. Touch the Wireless button to the right of the display screen on the printer and make note of the I.P address. Try method 1 of 4 here: How to Ping an IP Address. Let me know the results.  Connect to the Wireless Direct feature of the printer (just for testing), touch the Wireless Direct icon on the printer's front display (for more information, page #57 of the User Guide), enable with no security. Connect the computer to this network and try printing. If you are able to print when connected to Wireless Direct, an issue is present in the network.  Cheers,

  • Play a game with 2 players but not over wifi or in the same room?

My dad and I both are getting iPads and wanted to see if there are any games we can play together even though we don't live near each other.
I guess it would have to be turn based or something but can let him or I know the other person has done something. I was hoping Scrabble but that looks like it only works over wifi.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Rich

Are you saying that neither of you will have wi-fi at your homes ? If not, will you both have 3G models ?
Words With Friends is a Scrabble-like game and you can play it remotely either via wi-fi, or 3G. Remember, you don't have to be on the same wi-fi network..... you could be on yours, and he could be on his. As long as the iPad has internet connectivity somehow, it will work.

  • The iTune Remote App has stopped finding my iTunes library when connected to wifi from my main router, but works fine when connected via second wifi router on the same network (different SSID)

I'm running iTunes Remote App from a couple of iPhone 5's and a first generation iPod Touch. iTunes is running on a PC - Windows 7. My home network runs two Wifi Routers, each with a different SSID. I've had no problems with the Remote app running this set up for the last 8 months but recently the App can only find my iTunes library when the iPhone/iPod is connected via one specific router, when connected to the network via the other router, no iTunes library is found. I'm also running an Apple TV and it's the same as the iTunes Library, only visible via the one SSID.
Everything else seems to work fine when connected via either router, eg Internet on the iPhones (definitely via wifi)
I've tried renewing the lease on the iPhone wifi connection, restarting everything.....several times.....
It used to work fine, this only seems to have been a problem in recent weeks
Any help or advice would be much appreciated
    Thanks
    Ian

It turned out to be the firewall settings on our router. Her machine was sending traffic that our router interpreted as a DoS attack and blacklisted her Airport's MAC address. That's why it would work fine if she switched to Ethernet.

  • IMessage is not working over wifi. I need HELP D:

My iMessage is not working over wifi. But it's only at my house. Actually it worked a while ago but then it stopped working.
The browser, email, app store, youtube and any other apps are working just fine over the wifi. It's only my iMessage. It won't send any message. It say message not delivered. Does anybody what is going on and what can I do to fix it? Thanks, before. (:

I recently moved my library on my time capsule
You mean you moved your music files to the external. The library is more than the music files.
Just copy the \Music\iTunes\ folder from internal to the Time Capsule.
Add the Time Capsule to your Login items in System prefs -> Accounts.
Hold Option and launch iTunes and select *Choose library*.
Select the iTunes library file int ehiTunes folder on the Time Capsule.
It is hte samae library you have previously. All artwork playlists, ratings, songs, movies, etc. will be there.
Genius is already there so nothing needs to be done.

  • My phone won't use IMessage even when the person I'm txting has an iPhone why?

Why won't my phone use iMessage even when the person in txting has an iphone

I'm having same problem with sending to 3 people from a particular WiFi Network. For two people the iMessage i write is sending, but stops just before Delivery and then says not delivered. For the third person it immediately sends as text message.
    Answered to questions above.
Can I send to others... Intermittent. Usually no, but then at some point a lot of iMessages comes at once.
    Settings have been enabled.
Also other persons settings/Messages are enabling iMessage.
Enabled for WiFi + non roaming cellular ( at my end it should mean only wifi as I am in roaming area with wifi available).
Numbers are all enabled as we have used them a lot of times, an no changes or upgrades this month.
So: it seems to me to be a WiFi issue here, but the odd thing is that it sometimes lets iMessages through.
    e-mail and browsing works fine.
    Any suggestions?

Having issues with my MacBook. Even when the internet is disconnected, apps are still closing and opening on their own. I sometimes do not have control over my cursor.....any suggestions?

There are several possible causes for this issue. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried until it's resolved. Some may not be apply in your case.
    1. Follow the instructions in this support article, and also this one, if applicable. A damaged or defective AC adapter could be the cause, even if it's the right kind.
    2. Open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and delete all pointing devices other than the trackpad, if applicable. Disconnect any USB pointing devices. By a "pointing device," I mean a peripheral that moves the cursor, such as a trackpad, mouse, trackball, or graphics tablet. A plain keyboard is not a pointing device.
    3. Start up in safe mode and test, preferably without launching any third-party applications. If you don't have the problem in safe mode, but it comes back when you restart as usual, stop here and post your results. Do the same if you can't start in safe mode. If there was no difference in safe mode, go on to the next step.
    4. Reset the System Management Controller.
    5. If you're using a Bluetooth trackpad, investigate potential sources of interference, including USB 3 devices.
    6. A swollen battery in a portable computer can impinge on the trackpad from below and cause erratic behavior. If you have trouble clicking the trackpad, this is likely the reason. The battery must be replaced without delay.
    7. Press down all four corners of the trackpad at once and release. If there's any effect, it's likely to be temporary, and the unit needs to be serviced or replaced.
    8. There's a report that a (possibly defective) Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter can cause the built-in trackpad of a MacBook to  behave erratically. If you're using such an adapter, disconnect it and test.
    9. There's also a report of erratic cursor movements caused by an external display that was connected but not turned on.
    10. If none of the above applies, or if you have another reason to think that your computer is being remotely controlled, remove it from the network by turning off Wi-Fi (or your Wi-Fi access point), disconnecting from a Bluetooth network link, and unplugging the Ethernet cable or USB modem, whichever is applicable. If the cursor movements stop at once, you should suspect an intrusion.
    11. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine and/or external trackpad tested.

  • Can I force my phone to make calls using WiFi, even when wireless is available?

When I was in the UK a couple years ago I could make calls back to USA using WiFi, because the wireless service was incompatible with my phone.
When I was in the Dominican Republic last year, even though I used GrooveIP and Google Voice, I came home to a $400+ wireless roaming bill, I think because the wireless service there IS compatible.  So how do I force my phone to make calls using WiFi, even when wireless is available?

        Hey there FredW,
A $400 bill would certainly cause my jaw to drop so I absolutely want to provide you steps to prevent this from happening going forward.
To avoid data charges you are going to want to make sure that Data roaming is turned off,http://vz.to/18oRFuS.
You'll also want to disable mobile data,http://vz.to/1hCPg4Q.
When using services such as GrooveIP, Google Voice, Skype you are going to want to make sure that you are connected to WiFi. Here is how to set up a WiFi connection,http://vz.to/II1jP6.

I just bought a new Motorola modem. Do I need to reconfigure my Airport Express? For some reason we have WiFi even though the amber light is blinking.

Typically, when changing out networking hardware, it is always a good idea to perform a complete power reset of all of your networking equipment.
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • My 4s continues to lose wi-fi and reverts to 3G even when the phone is 4 ft from the router.

My 4s continues to lose wi-fi and reverts to 3G even when the phone is 4 ft from the router. Is this a defect in my phone? It happens when I am home and I switch to my wi-fi. It doesn't matter where the phone is in relation to the router. Please note, I have my phone set to NOT sleep. Does any one know why my phone reverts to 3G? I have to manually set it to wi-fi every time this happens.

I have the same issue with my iPhone 4s. It was not an issue when I was using iOS5, but it started once I upgraded to iOS6 and the recent update of iOS6.0.1 did not fix it. Judging from the release notes, Apple thinks this is only an iPhone 5 issue, as they say they fixed it for iPhone 5's.
I have an iPad 2 (iOS6.0.1) and a 3rd generation iPod touch (latest iOS5 release), as well as an Apple TV 2. None of the other devices have this problem and they are all on the same network.
Something interesting... my iPhone 4s works fine on the wifi where I work. At home, it continually turns on and off. My home network is using a Netgear router (WNDR3400) and the iPhone is connecting to it using WPA2+PSK protocol. Hopefully, this information can help Apple figure out the problem.
(I remember my iPod Touch having a similar issue a few years ago with iOS 4, when I had a different Netgear router using the same security protocol. I think iOS 5 fixed it for the iPod Touch... I wonder if some Apple products have an issue with Netgear Routers using that encryption.)

  • On my iPad mini, my inbox number count is over 500 even though the inbox. Is empty. All accounts do this on my iPad but all my other device are fine. Problem showed up two weeks ago???

On my iPad mini, my inbox number count is over 500 even though the inbox. Is empty. All accounts do this on my iPad but all my other device are fine. Problem showed up two weeks ago???

    Hi Peter,
Thanks for participating in the Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like the Mail app on your iPad mini is showing that you have over 500 unread email messages, but your inbox is actually empty.
There are several steps I'd use to troubleshoot this situation.
First, restart your iPad to see if it clears up the symtom:
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
Drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
If this doesn't correct the behavior, try removing and re-adding the affected email accounts next:
Get help with Mail on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
Delete the affected email account from your device.
Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
    Tap the affected email account.
    Tap Delete Account.
    Add your account again.
If the same thing happens after re-adding the account, you may need to use the steps below to reinstall iOS. You may want to back up your iPad to iTunes before completing this step.
Make sure that you have iTunes 12 or later on your computer.
Put your device in recovery mode.
When you get the option to restore or update, select Update. This will reinstall iOS without erasing your data.
    From:
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on - Apple Support
    All the best,
    Jeremy
