Imessages gone

So last week I got an iMessage from my nephew and all was good. I have been using iMessaging for a few years now with no problems. Today I tapped the icon and it gave me an introductory screen, "Get Started". I've already started! What? So I sign in and ... no messages! What happened to all the messages that I had stored over the past five or so years that I have had this thing? Nothing there. Just a blank screen or create a message, those are my only options.
The other thing is that when I was hitting the iMessage icon to start, it would first pop up the message screen, with all my old interactions, for a fraction of a second before showing the "Get Started" screen. So they were all there a minute ago. Sign in and they are gone.
And, when I signed it, it asked which account I wanted to use, showing me @me.com, @icloud.com and @gmail.com
What?
I don't even know. When I got it I signed up for whatever the default account was, not sure if it was icloud or me, so I don't even know. They all work to sign in though. But where are my iMessages?

Try restoring from backup since Messages are in the backup.
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
Do not backup in present condition since it will overwrite the previous backup.
To help prevent the last backup from being overwritten and thus erasing the Messages from the last backup turn off autosyncing so that you have to overtly start a sync. To turn off go iTunes>Preferences>Devices and check the box that says "Prevent iPods...".

I deleted some of my text message histories to get rid of 'other' space (6.33 gb). They were gone from iMessage, but they still showed up in search, so they were still taking up space on my phone. I synced my iPhone (4s) with iTunes but the messages are still there. How can I get rid of these texts for good and have more space on my phone? 6.33 gb of other space is way too much, thats almost half of my overall available space (13.5 gb.) I don't want to reset my phone and lose all my other texts/ app progress/ photos. I do have backups, but when I restore from the backup the other space comes back along with everything else. What can I do to get rid of this other space and the 'deleted' text messages? (I'm running iOS 6.1.3 if that helps)

But once again, I do not want to lose my other texts, app progress, and photos. I could sync the photos but i would still lose the app progress and texts. I would only restore if it was the only option left, but the other space, as already stated, isnt the main concern. The main concern is those 'deleted' texts. If they go, then a good size chunk of the other space goes. I know you CAN delete texts for good. It worked fine before. All i want to know is why its not working for me now, and how to fix it.
I also know that when you delete texts on your iphone, they get marked for deletion, however they stay on your device (thats why they show up when you search for them.) then when you sync your device with itunes, the texts marked for deletion should disappear. When i synced they didnt disappear. Thats what i need an explanation/solution for. Why the texts marked for deletion didnt get fully deleted after the sync.

  • I lost my contacts. First it would not open Facebook or my iMessage . So I turn off phone and turned it back on.  Then all contacts were gone. That is not cool. I don't want to sync . I also read on this forum iPhone is not a storage device .???

I Lost my contacts . I don't sync. Why should I have too? Very frustrating. I read on this forum iPhone was designed to work with computer. Then I guess this phone is not for me.
My fb and my iMessage would not open. So I turned of my phone and turned it back on. Bang ! They were gone. Funny how I never have problems with my itouch.

Traded in my iPhone for a different brand of phone. I had no idea that I had to sign out of iMessage before doing this. Now, my old phone is gone and my new phone cannot receive texts from people who have iphones and had me as a contact before. They try to send an iMessage and I have no way to receive an iMessgae now. On some server somwhere my AppleID still tells people they should send me iMessages. What is the solution to this issue? Deleting my AppleID would work to solve this issue, but I cannot ever delete the ID? What can Apple do for this?

If you did not erase your apps and data before getting rid of your old phone, try using Find My Phone and erasing everything remotely. See if this works.

  • How can i delete messages on iMessage and have them STAY GONE?

How can I delete messages from my iPhone and have them STAY GONE and not have them show up on my computer or iPad? Same thing, how can I delete from any of these and have them NOT show up on the other devices? If I delete on one, it stays on the other. It's a constant circle of deleting messages? I want them gone when deleted.  Maverick. iPad4th iPhone 5
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    First off.
The "Sync" as Apple calls it is only "Display on all Devices" and nothing more.
Deleting it on one device will not delete it on another.
On the Mac the iMessages are stored in ~/Library/Messages in file called chat.db with a couple of supporting database items alongside.
If you "close"  or remove the chat in the list in the Messages window (the x when you mouse over the name and pic) then the iMessage will "return" as an "Aid Memoire" to the previous conversation.
This is local on your Mac and is nothing to do with any 'sync' over the iMessages servers.
The longest time I have experienced was using my iPhone on a hotel WiFi on a Friday evening away form home and picking up those same iMessage on Sunday evening when I turned my Mac on.
The iMessages servers "push" the iMessages to the devices it thinks are Registered.
However this only happens once.  When the device has the iMessages the servers stop sending it.
This is to stop what you seem to describe - the endless attempt to delete the same iMessages.
It is more likely you are talking about the "history" feature.

    Hi,
    Go to the iPhone
    GO to Settings > Messages
Is the iPhone Number ticked to be enabled (It will be greyed out and not editable but should be On)
If it is Off (Unticked remove the Apple ID)
Place the iPhone in Airplane mode for a few minutes.
Go back to Settings Messages and make sure the Message app Is Enabled overall.
Check the iPhone Number is verifying.
When Completed test by sending an iMessage to your Apple ID (Mac)
If that works add back the Apple ID to the iPhone's Settings.
Restart the Mac App and Accept the op ups that appear as to what the iPhone is using.

  • IMessage won't stay gone

I  am trying to delete an iMessage that is probably about a year old. When I delete it I will let the phone sit overnight to "process" when I wake up in the morning I have no texts or emails so I close out of the iMessage app and then open it back up. All my txts are gone at this point and upon restarting the phone everything appears including what I deleted. I don't have find messages turned on in spotlight either and that seems to be the common "fix." I back up regularly also.

How much free storage space do you have available on your iPhone?
Any change after a reset which is similar to a computer restart and is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release?

  • Just synced and updated my iphone 5 in itunes and my old imessages are showing but recent ones gone?

    Hiya,
Was having some problem with my phone provider EE and was told to sync my iphone to itunes and reinstall it and that should fix the probem. I have done this and for some reason my recent imessages and whatsapp messages have gone but loads of my old ones from my old phone has come onto it..
Im sure there is logically explanation for this?? I am sorry but I am fairly new to apple products
    thanks

It depends on the iCloud backup you restored the device with if you used one.
You may have selected an old backup from your old phone instead of a backup for your current one. iOS devices allow you to restore different devices with different backups.

  • I changed my Apple-ID email settings, now all the iMessages are gone. Why is that? I want them back.

As the title says, I just changed my Apple-ID because I got a new main email account. Now all the iMessages are gone.
How can I get them back or will they synchronize again?
This really saddens me because I love storing my old conversations.
    Thanks for your input.

I have a problem with iMessage syncing between my MacBook and my iPhone.  It used to sync just fine [i.e., I could see the same iMessage conversation on both my iPhone and MacBook], but no longer.
Now, I believe I inadvertently caused the problem because I changed my Apple ID [I was changing from a @comcast.net address to an @gmail.com one].   When I go into iMessage on my iPhone and attempt to add my email addresses [in addition to the phone number] a default Sign on box appears with my old @comcast.net Apple ID.   The old password to that address does not work, and entering the new password to the new @gmail.com address does not work either.   I cannot seem to find a way to edit the default [older] Apple ID that pops up.  Any suggestions?  Thank you.

  • My phone number is gone from imessages on my iphone

When I send and recieve messages on my iphone they do not go through my phone number instead they go through my email and my phone number doesn't even appear as an option anymore for imessages.

    Hey cdvilla25,
If you haven't already, I would double-check the settings:
You can change the address that new iMessage conversations are started with in Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > Start new conversations from:. Note that this setting applies only to new conversations. If you would like to change the address from which messages are sent, first change this setting, and then delete the existing conversation and start a new one.

  • My iMessage won't activate. Started about an hour ago. Noticed it was sending green and tried to fix and now it won't register my apple email or anything. It is gone!!! All the iMessage emails and says it is a network

SO I noticed that my messages just stopped completely. Then I tried to send one out and it turned green. I got no response from the receiver. Now I tried to go to iMessage to reset as using my apple email. It wouldn't even reset to using any email. Said I had a network problem. Everything else on the phone is working fine. This all started about an hour ago. I powered the phone down. I did a reset. Nothing. Any suggestions??? I noticed on the forum that another person started having the same problem about an hour ago?? Did apple explode finally? My husbands phone is green also. My sons is blue and he has a 4s. My husband and I have 5's. any help would be great!!! I think I have tried everything

There are server problems right now with iMessage effecting some users.  See http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/systemstatus/.
