IMessages has unlinked my contacts from messages

I have just switched phone providers (replaced the SIM card) in my iPhone (I moved overseas temporarily). Now, iMessages has disassociated the names of many of my contacts from their messages. For example, when I used to text "Bob" with my old SIM card, his name would appear on the conversation as "Bob", and I could access all of his contact information from the Details link. After I put in the new SIM card, only Bob's phone number appears, and it is no longer connected with his contact card.
Is there a way to fix this?
The only fix I've figured out is to go through all of my iMessages and add each of the contacts to an existing contact, but this duplicates the telephone number in their contact card. Furthermore, when I change SIMs again in a few months, I will have to do this all over again.

Hi camd,
I see that you are experiencing an issue where your threads of texts in Messages are no longer displaying your contact name, and are just showing the number instead. In order to resolve this, you may want to first simply reset your iPhone:
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If the issue is still unresolved after a reset, try backing up your iPhone then restoring it:

only way is to restore the phone as new.  OR wait until IOS 7 comes out in the fall.

  • How can I Remove Recent Contacts from Messages App?

iOS 7 had a feature I could use (found here: http://www.tekrevue.com/tip/remove-recent-contacts-iphone-messages/) that would allow me to remove recent contacts from iMessage via an info tab. I used the feature to fix iMessage vs SMS issues with contacts who switch from android to iPhone or vice versa. I've since not been able to find the feature after updating to iOS 8. Does anyone know where this message option went?

My issue is I cannot see the "circle I" info button for individual contacts, only for group messages or recently deleted contacts, the latter which changes the phone number to "other." I should have made that clear. I was once able to delete recent "saved-in-contacts" contacts using this remove from recents feature in order to restore or deactivate iMessage with that contact.

  • Sync contacts from Messages to Contacts

I added a new contact from a text message on my iPhone 5, but it doesn't appear in my contacts app. The only way I can access this new contact is to go to Messages and search for the name. Why doesn't it appear in Contacts?

Go to Contacts and tap "Groups" in the top left corner. Make sure you are viewing all contacts, and then look again.

  • HT3529 deleting old contacts from messages

    Can anyone help.
I have deleted some contacts from my contact list, but they still keep appearing each time I start a new text message when I type the first few letters of the contact name.
Is there a way of refreshing this list?
    Thanks

There is already a discussion about this here.
Looks like the only way to resolve this is with a restore.

  • IMessage has mixed two contacts

    Hi
I have an iPhone 6 with iOS 8.0 and am having issues sending messages to a contact via iMessage. Every time I send a message to her, the message I just sent would pop up saying it was from her. Then it would lose all messages I just sent and only keep the messages sent on SMS. As I scroll back through the thread it then mixes messages from my sister (a different contact).
Therefore not only is this not working it is also mixing two different contacts together on one thread. I've deleted the thread and reset my phone but it still has a notification on the app saying I have message when I don't.
If I could get some help with this it would be great!
    Thanks!

I only have one apple ID which is used for everything so yes I assume so. Resetting my phone and deleting the thread has actually fixed the problem, so thanks anyway!

  • Unlink another phone from Message/iCloud account?

Somehow my wife's iPhone has become linked to my iCloud account. I've signed her out on her phone and unlinked her phone in iCloud and Message preferences however every txt she receives comes to my phone and every time I try to txt her, the message comes to my own phone, and not to hers. The txt messages are coloured blue not green suggesting that somewhere our phones/accounts are still linked

I'd check on your and your wife's phone settings>messages>send and receive. (make sure the email addess & phone number are not the same as yours)
You can have multiple phones on the same account as and this won't be a problem as long as the same address are not checked. You can also add email address to your account so that imessage can go to different phone numbers and be associated with unique email address. To do this add alternate emails to your apple ID.

  • Syncing Iphone and Iphone has deleted ALL contacts from Outlook - Help!

I have on many occassions synced my Iphone without issue.
This time syncing the IPhone has deleted ALL the contacts on the hone and WITHIN Outlook.
Can I regain the lost contacts safely from the back up?
I have over 300 contacts and don't want to have to copy them all in manually.
    Any advice will be appreciated.

Restore the missing contacts file on your PC from your PC backup.
Or, it you've backed up your iphone to icloud or itunes, you can try performing a restore of the iphone.

  • Photos of contacts from messages

    Hello,
    I have a problem and I can't solve it :x
My messages contacts are from SIM and that way I can't put photos in them. How can I change to put pictures there?
    Thank you

    Hi Olefi,
Welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.
I Agree with Alexdon, this is not possible as the SIM card is not able to hold this much data. So importing to the phones internal storage is the best idea.

  • "Add to contacts" from Messages doesn't work with me

    Hello everyone,
When I receive a phone number by text, and I want to save it in my contacts, how do i proceed?
Here's what I'm doing : long press on the phone number, select "add to contacts", select "create new contact", I enter first name and last name, but the phone number doesnt appear anywhere... I tap "Done" , but when I chech the contact details, there is no phone numbers, just the empty contact I created...
    What am i doing wrong?
    I have an iPhone 5S on iOs 7.0.2 ...
    Thanks!

Yes, I just noticed this issue too. My friend sent me his address in a text, and I tapped on it and did "Add to Existing Contact" and selected him from the list and nothing happened. I tried a few times, and then once when I tried manually entering it, like 6 copies of the same address suddenly showed up. I deleted all but one, and then it didn't display an address anymore, even though I left one intact. I tried adding his address to a different contact using the same method and that worked, so I had to delete my contact and re-add his information fresh. Adding the address using the automatic URL in text worked after that. Ridiculous.

  • HT4599 My PC (outlook) has stopped syncing contacts from my phone.

    Can anyone help.

It sounds like PC Companion is unable to read the calendar from Outlook properly. Is your calendar stored in a local pst-file or on some type of server other than MS Exchange?
Could you try creating another pst-file in MS Outlook, create a calendar folder in it and then select that folder for synchrojization and see if the issue remains?
See this link for information on how to create a new pst: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Create-an-Outlook-Data-File-pst-to-save-your-information-17...

  • Think I backed up phone to old one so now new phone has all old contacts and messages

Tried to back up phone and somehow backed new one to old info...what do i do

    Hi KCC03446,
Hook you phone up to iTunes on the computer you sync with and select the phone under Devices in the sidebar or at the top right of the iTunes screen. On the Device Profile screens, click on the Photos tab and uncheck the Sync Photos box, then sync. This should remove everything except the Camera Roll and Photo Stream from your phone.
Then, if you want to put selected photos on, select the ones you want and then sync again.
    Cheers,

  • Duplicate contact from same company?

Is it possible to duplicate a contact from the same company for a new contact so that all I have to do is change the name and perhaps a phone number?  I don't want to have to type from scratch all the info on several people when the only field different is the name.  Outlook has had "New Contact from Same Company" for years.  How come Apple doesn't have this feature for Address Book/Contacts???

Well, we'll, well, all operations are referring to the left part of the window and with a contact marked there, yes? So, highlight a contact in the left half, then Command-C and Command-V.
    It works!
