IMessages in mountain lion not syncing with both mac and iPhone. Why?

I either get someones imessage on my iphone or my mac, but not the same message on both. Anyone know why? I thought iMessage was supposed to "pick off where you left off... on all devices."

I see now. OK, I do think I messed up the settings a bit. I have a @mac.com and a @me.com address with the same name. My Apple ID uses my @mac.com address, but I set up the Messages app on 10.8 to use my @me.com.
I tried switching over to @me a while back because I wanted to reserve the Messages for close friends and family only. Now I see there is no way to turn off the "reached at" address for my main Apple ID @mac.com account. I'd prefer to use ONLY the @me (which is not my Apple ID), but Im guessing this is not possible.

  • My icalendar is not syncing between my mac and iphone

My icalendar is not syncing between my mac and iphone.  Everything for icalendar and icloud is turned on for all devices.  PLEASE HELP

Settings>icloud.  Assuming you have already set up the connection to icloud (ID, password), then turn on Calendars on that screen.
If they don't appear, then log into icloud.com using a computer's browser and look at the calendars page.  If empty, then you are not syncing calendars from your device to icloud.  If there, then be sure Calendars is turned on in Settings>iCloud or System Preferences>iCloud.

  • Did Mountain Lion break calendar and note sync between the Mac and iPhone?

When I was running Lion, my calendars and notes synced properly between my Mac and iPhone (with notes going into Mail.app). After upgrading to Mountain Lion, the notes on my Mac were moved into Notes.app and my calendars appeared to be unharmed. I've recently noticed that neither my calendars nor my notes are syncing between my Mac and iPhone.
I use iTunes to sync my data (either via USB or WiFi) and have no interest in moving to iCloud. I have tried the suggestion of enabling iCloud sync on my iPhone, then disabling, as well as telling iTunes to overwrite the calendar data on my iPhone. Neither of these approaches has solved my sync problem.

I found a solution to my problem. Hopefully it helps someone else too.
I deleted the following file and folder:
         ~/Library/Calendars/Calendar Cache
         ~/Library/Calendars/Calendar Sync Changes/
When I synced my iPhone, I was presented with several sync conflicts to resolve. I resolved them and applied the changes immediately. Now my Mac and iPhone are in sync and I've confirmed that changes are syncing from my Mac to my iPhone (I'll confirm that it works the other direction tomorrow when I can look at my calendar at work).
This is the thread that helped me:

  • My ical does not sync with my ipad and iphone

My Ical will not sync with my phone or ipad. My address book does sync. The settings appear to be the same for both. I am running Lion on an imac and have ios5 on both the phone and the ipad.

On both the iPhone and the iPad, make sure Calendars is selected in Settings > iCloud
And check System Preferences > iCloud. Make sure Calendars is switched on there.
If everything was already setup correctly, try resetting the iOS devices.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    And restart your iMac.

  • Entries on my I phone 4 in Calender are not pushed to I cloud so does not sync with my Mac and I pad. Reverse (from Mac to I pad and i phone works fine who can help me??

Use Mac. I phone 4 and i Pad all latest software switched to i Cloud, works fine except entries in the Calender of the I Phone are not pushed to I Pad and Mac. reverse (from Mac to I phone and Ipad) it works ok. I pad entries in calender are pushed to Mac and IPhone Who can help me??

On the iPhone open the Calendar app and on the top left conner tap the Calendar button and confirme that the calendars on your iPhone are under iCloud.
If not that is the reason why they are not going.
If  they are under iCloud try to toggle off and back on iCloud calendar options.

  • Why is Mountain Lion not compatible with my Mac Pro?

Downloading Mountain Lion to my Mac Pro (running Snow Leopard OS 10.6.8) fails with this warning" not compatible with this computer". Why is this happening? What is the solution?

Apple didn't drop graphics cards. What they did is force 64b boot mode.  What that means is any Mac that does have a EFI64, Mac Pro 2006-2007 cannot use Mountain Lion at all.  And any machine using certain video cards that don't have 64b drivers are also not able to use it.
It is a shame that they decided to do it, but that is the way of large companies no days.  There is no real reason to upgrade to ML unless you really need notifications, iCloud, and iMessage on your Mac.
What is sad is they removed the ability for people to buy Lion.  So if you didn't go to lion you have already lost some apps in the app store, cause they require Lion or Mountain Lion.

  • Syncing with both MAC and Windows PC

Is there an easy way to sync the IPhone with both a MAC and a PC. I got my business contacts in my office PC and all my music, videos, in my personal MAC? At first I got a problem trying to sync with my PC (Windows XP) and I decided to transfer all the info to the MAC (Tiger), but it is a little inconvenient since I got to update a lot of info every day in the MAC to sync with IPhone and have all my business contacts and calendar updated.
    Any help?

This is too bad. i thought I had it working. i got my iphone, and synced it with all of the fun stuff on my Mac (photos, podcasts, audiobooks, video), and of course left the contact and calendar section alone when it was connected to the Mac. Then, when I went over to my work laptop (need my 900 contacts and updated calendar all the time), I unchecked everything but the relevant contacts, and Outlook calendars, and it synced fine!!! But...then I just went back to my Mac tonight to update some things, and although the Mac will recognize the iPhone through iPhoto to try to sync the camera pictures, it wil NOT show up under devices in iTunes now (on the Mac). This *****. Anybody have any luck?? I know there has got to be a huge amount of us out there, that need to merge the business and personal content we want/need on this device. I cant go dumping all of my massive amounts of media on my company owned laptop!!!!????

  • Why won't my iMac (Snow Leopard) iCal sync with both iCloud and iPhone?

No matter how many times I enter all the correct info neither iCloud or iPhone will pick up my entries on my iMac.
Also, there is no iCloud ikon in my preferences for waht that's worth.

Once you enable iCloud, your iPhone will no longer sync properly (or at all) with iCal UNLESS you upgrade to OSX Lion. I tried various techniques yesterday for about an hour to see if I could get all three on the same page, but I could never get it to work. Items would appear in one or two place, but never all three. iCal won't sync at all to iCloud without Lion. This is not a secret: Apple states in its promotional materials that you need Lion to use iCloud on your Mac.
I posted this to another similar question last night, but it needs to be repeated:
This is the kind of thing that I hate, hate, hate about Apple.
Why is it that if I bought a Mac before July of this year, I must pay to upgrade my operating system in order to take advantage of iCloud? Meanwhile, a Windows Vista SP2 user, who bought a new computer in May 2009, already has everything they need on their computer to use iCloud.
Why was it possible for Apple to write a free iCloud Control Panel that was compatible with existing versions of Windows, but Mac users must buy an entirely new operating system?
It's not the price that bothers me – I've already paid for it. But Lion was such a buggy mess and the interface "improvements" so useless that I "downgraded" back to SL. Now I find that I must choose between a terrible operating system and the features in iCloud.
If Apple gave Mac users the same amount of backwards compatibility that it gives to Windows users, people with OSX 10.5 (Leopard) would be able to use iCloud. That's something to think about the next time you go to purchase a new computer.
(P.S. Something else to think about: If you bought a Mac before October 2007 (when OSX 10.5 was introduced), your computer won't run iTunes 10.5 unless you buy an upgrade. But a PC user, who purchased their computer as long ago as Sept. 2004(!), can run iTunes without an OS upgrade.)

  • Mountain Lion not syncing reminders or messages from iPhone.

Any one else having this problem? All the reminders that have shown up on my Macbook are all months old. Nothing is syncing....
    Messages isn't syncing either.
All settings are turned on under iCloud on my phone.
    please help?

Firstly go to Settings/iCloud  on the iphone and just check that the individual apps are switched on to sync.
If they are, then on the Mac, go to System Preferences/Mail, Contacts and Calendars and click on iCloud in the left column. Deleselect the service not working, then reselect it.
If that doesn't work, just reset iCloud on the Mac. Go to System Preferences/iCloud and log out and back in again. When you log out you will be asked if you want to keep a copy on your Mac. If you do, when you log back in again, you will have a listing of things on iCloud and another under it in On My Mac. I don't like the double listing, so always select remove from Mac. Everything on iCloud will be redownloaded onto the Mac again when you log back into iCloud.
Failing that, then the issue is most likely on the iphone. Try a restart of the phone, then if that doesn't work log out of iCloud on it and back in again. Never had to do that though to get things syncing.

  • Can you Sync with both Mac and PC ?

My wife would like an ipod touch to use pretty much as I do mine, for her music collection and calendar ad contacts sync (as well as other more interesting, but less important stuff).
The difference is, whilst we have a mac at home that she would want to sync music from, she wants to use calendars and contact info from Outlook on her PC at work.
I was told by one 'network specialist' at a store that it couldn't be done because it would only sync through iTunes and she'd have to have an account on each machine she used. every time it synced calendars from work it would remove the music and vice versa. Is this true ?
Does anyone know if this can be done? or should she pretty much forget owning an ipod touch ?
Or are there any other solutions we could look at..?
    Any info gratefully recieved
    andyt

    I've done it, I've done it !
All the feedback sounded so promising, I went ahead and got an ipod touch for my wife and it's all worked out great. She took it to work and set it up there (PC formatted) to sync contacts and calendars, then at home tonight I've added bit by bit. Songs worked, then I managed to put some photos on... apps was the tricky one to get my head around, as we have different profiles on the iMac, but wanted to share apps without paying or them twice - We shared music by moving our itunes library to a shared location, works a treat as we can keep them different. Eventually I worked out I could log in to my itunes store account in her profile and download the apps again straight into her library. Brilliant!
and I think that's the lot!
the only thing that could go wrong now is if it all disappears when she takes her ipod touch back to work after the holidays (ach, I'm sure we're fine)... fingers crossed.
Thanks everyone for giving me the confidence to go for it. Needed to be sure before I spent all that money.
jscjsc, sorry to hear about your probs, but it's worked for me. Sorry I can't help you as I no nothing of the PC side of things, so couldn't say why your calendar diasppeared - except to say that when I went to tick the sync music box at home, it threatened to wipe everything on the ipod and replace it. I took that to maybe mean calendars too, so I let it alone and my wife will manually manage music and movies, very simple, drag and drop. Apps and Photos seem to sync ok though.
    Hope you get sorted.

Hi I am having trouble with iMessage on the mac book pro, it doesnt sync with the ipad and iPhone, both the ipad and iPhone do but not on the mac book pro , has anyone any suggestions, thanks in advance

First, make sure that all your devices are using the same Apple ID in iMessages including your Mac.  Second, your messages that you've already started on your devices will not show up on your Mac - only ones that you start from now on will show up.  Third, if you're still not syncing accross all devices, make sure you read the directions on the first page of this thread.  It should work after performing those steps.  Good luck!

  • While intending to perform a clean install of Mountain Lion while continuing with old apps and files, is it a waste to restore a backup that was made while running Mountain Lion as an UPgrade from Lion?

While intending to perform a clean install of Mountain Lion while continuing with old apps and files, is it a waste to restore a backup that was made while running Mountain Lion as an UPgrade from Lion?
Originally I was running Mountain Lion as an UPgrade from Lion. I created a backup in Time Machine, performed a clean install of Mountain Lion, then I proceeded to use Time Machine to restore the back up.
When thinking about the essence of a back up restore, it occurrs to me that for all I know, I may have just wated my time IF Time Machine also restores all the old unneeded files that remain from Lion after an upgrade.
Since the backup was made while running Mountain Lion as an upgrade from Lion, did restoring this backup defeat the purpose of a clean install by reinstalling old Lion files?
If so, how can I re-do the last portion of the process so that I get all my home-folder files and apps back without the full bulk of old Lion files? Migration assistant I'm guessing?

    Hello John!
Thank you for your response which solved my problem. For other users who may stumble upon this, I'll clear up the confusion and share how I solved the problem with your help; When looking for answers to my computer problems, finding unresolved questions where person B offers a solution and person A never comes back and says "That worked, thank you.", it demonstrates a "k-thnx-bye" user mentality that leaves others with the same problem lost. Without further ado:
It is not clear what you did because the meaning of "clean install" is vague. You can erase a volume and install an OS which leaves none of its previous content intact,
This is what I did: I erased the volume leaving no previous content intact, while then installing OS X Mountain Lion.
or you can upgrade an existing OS (or reinstall the same one) which does not alter your user - installed files.
An upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion is what I started with initially before erasing anything. This was undesirable. Since this can cause Macs to run slower (especially whereas I'm using a mid-2011 Mac Mini), my goal was to go from operating within an upgrade to Mountain Lion, to operating within an installation of Montain Lion that was not preceded by any other oprating system.
Hence a "clean install of Mountain Lion while continuing with old apps and files" is confusing.
Well put and understood. What I should have said was:
    1.Erase the volume
    2.Install Mountain Lion clean
3.Confirm that Mountain Lion is functioning properly
4.Proceed to use either Time Machine or Migration Assistant to Import/Migrate/Copy over only two things; My old apps (That had been stored originally in the designated Applications folder) and all files and folders originally stored in the home folder under users.
If you restore from a Time Machine backup then all modifications that occurred subsequent to that backup become erased. It renders moot any OS X upgrade performed subsequent to that backup.
That makes sense and is just as I later suspected.
If so, how can I re-do the last portion of the process so that I get all my home-folder files and apps back without the full bulk of old Lion files? Migration assistant I'm guessing?
    Yes.
This is what I did and everything works perfectly. Thank you so much once again!

  • ICal on my iPhone does not sync with my Mac or iPad.  I am using the cloud.

My iCal calendar on my iPhone does not sync with my Mac or iPad.  I am on the cloud and every
thing else is syncing.  I've looked at preferences and everything looks right...

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
First check that all your settings are correct, that calendar syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the calendars you are using are in your 'iCloud' account and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud account (you can do this by clicking/tapping the calendar button in the top left corner of the application ), non iCloud calendars will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your calendars are in the iCloud account, you might try unchecking calendar syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling calendar syncing settings.
