IMessages iOS 8 all photo attachments displayed with "?" mark.

Last night I disabled "My photo stream" and today I see that all photo attachments in iMessages have disappeared. It only shows file name and question mark… Where did it all disappear?! I am sure they are in my backup… but how did that happen and is there a fix for it without restoring? I am not sure if "My photo stream" has to do something with it.. it's just a guess.

OK this has happened again and its getting to the point that I wanna scream at my iPhone, throw it into the wall and get Android. Why in the world did all iMessage attachments disappear again?! Is the new iPhone not able to handle all of the attachments I have?
I did not change any settings and everything was just fine yesterday. All of my iMessages would usually take about 1.2GB of space and its down to 129 MB now. Seriously, I wish I could go back to iOS 7, too many bugs and too many crashes using iOS 8, I am getting really frustrated. I usually select not to share crash data with apple or developers, but after having so many troubles with iOS 8, its now enabled... but not sure if that is any help to apple.
It looks like this issue keeps happening to everyone, but apple has not been able to address it yet. Luckily, all of my iMessage attachements show on my Mac in iMessages.

All photos NOT taken with my iphone have vanished from iphoto

I have just found that all pictures in iphoto except those taken with my iPhone have simply gone. I have searched for them but they don't appear to be anywhere on the machine. Furthermore, I have two cameras that I have downloaded images from quite happily for years from and now my Macbook can't download from them. It doesn't recognise one and just says there's a fault and it can't download images from the other.
Can anyone help?

You, too, can influence the way your photos look in an email message read on your friend's computer. You do not say how you enclose the photos as attachments, so I hope you are using the email button at the bottom of the iPhoto window (after having selected the one or more photos you wish to send). Clicking the email button should bring up a dialogue window, asking you to select the Size of enclosure you wish to send: using the drop-down menu, you can select between Small, Medium, Large, and Actual size. The size you select will depend on the eventual use that is to be made of the photos: if this is simply for viewing in the email message, then Small and Medium are appropriate; if the photos are to be viewed more closely, or printed at a relatively small size, then Large might be a better choice; if the photos are to be further processed, or printed in rather better quality, then Actual size is what is needed (actually, you might then simply prefer to send the originals).
The other selection boxes in the dialogue window are to allow you to include textual information, embedded in the photo file(s). Such information should already have been entered in the Information panel in iPhoto for each photo. Usually, you can leave these selection boxes unchecked.

I downloaded the trial version of LR 5 just to get a feel of LR 5. However, now that I have bought it, it has all my photos in a mess and I need to delete all photos and start with a blank LR...Help!

How do I save my photos and then reimport them??

You can create a new catalog which will be empty File->New Catalog. There is no SAVE command in Lightroom, so in general you don't need to SAVE your photos. If you have done some editing of the photos, and you want that to show up in the new catalog, select the photos and then Ctrl/Cmd-S to save the metadata with the photos.
If all your photos are "in a mess" (whatever that means), you might consider learning how to organize in Lightroom by getting rid of that mess using Lightroom methods. But generally, if you are beginning and your photos are all "in a mess", then creating a new catalog and importing again will result in the same mess. You would need to identify what you did wrong, and fix that.

Why do some photos display with a black border round them?

I have just bought a Gen 2 ipod touch and have loaded several albums of photos on to it. Some of these photos are displayed with a black border round them and seem to be almost square instead of filling the screen, whilst others are shown in full widescreen aspect. They are taken with the same camera and I have not cropped them in iphoto so I am wondering why they are not filling the screen? Are they not being optimised properly or is there some setting somewhere I am missing?

Present status At the present time, no fix or workaround is known for border-related issues in Photos.

All my photos are Black Exclamation Marks - iphoto on ExtHD

My iphoto library is stored on an ext HD. i had a power outage now when i reopen iphoto all photos are black exclamation marks. how can i restore or fix this? i tried rebuild function but it didnt work. thanks

Since the rebuild fix didn't solve the problem give this a go:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note: your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
Note: if the latest version, V4, of iPhoto Library Manager doesn't run download the earlier version, V3. It's available at the same website.

All photos VS Photos view - somebody please explain

I'm still getting to grips with the new photos app, could somebody please explain to me how the 'all photos' view works as the photos seem to appear in a weird order. What is the logic to how they are displayed? the Photos view seems to make sense as its all chronological

From my experimentation, it seems that "All Photos" is ordered by the date and time the photos were added to Photos. This is somewhat confirmed by the fact that the View menu (when in the All Photos album) displays a checked and unchangeable "Keep Sorted By Date Added" option (versus "Keep Sorted By Date" when in the main "Photos" view). It is further confirmed by adding some older photos that had not been in iPhotos before conversion and seeing them appear at the bottom of "All Photos" but in shooting order in the "Photos" view; later photos coming in from my iPhone dropped in after them in the "All Photos" album.
In this analysis, I consider the photos that were added as a result of the initial conversion of the iPhoto library as a lump so far as "date added" is concerned. There's no telling how the conversion process works its way through the old library.

"Library" view does not show ALL photos

My "Library" view is not showing me the last 2 rolls I imported. If I click on the specific year views, I can see the photos, but I expect all photos are displayed in the "Library" view.
While still running iPhoto 5, I imported a roll of images from disk that included photos taken at the end of Dec 2005 and in Jan 2006. These are the photos that do not show in the "Library" view. This was happening with iPhoto 5 and is still happening with iPhoto 6.
Any suggestions for getting all photos to shwo in the "Library" view ?

Thanks -- I figured out my problem...
Since iPhoto now seems to group items into "rolls", I had imported images from several different dates. The first image was from Sep'05, so it placed ALL the images imported, even those from Jan'06, with the Sep'05 photo in the middle of of my "Library" view.
Is there a way to have the "Library" view sort in date order instead of by imported roll ?

Attachments problems with iMessage - Question marks, empty attachments

Hello,
I am having a new problem and am looking for advice. I'm using iMessage across multiple devices - iPhone 6 on iOS 8.1.1, iMac on OS 10.10.1, and iPad Air on iOS 8.1. I recently, within the past two weeks, upgraded my OS on the iMac to Yosemite. The problem is that all the attachments... pictures, videos, vCards.. are showing as empty attachments in my iMessage history. I often refer to my message history for these pictures and files, and the files are not showing any more on my phone. The images show an outline with a question mark and the vCards don't open at all. Interestingly, I upgraded my wife's macbook air to Yosemite in the same time frame and she is having the same problem with her iPhone on iOS 8.1. The craziest part of all this is that the attachments all show up just fine when I open messages on the iMac. However, I rarely use messages on the iMac so having the attachments there is of no use to me. I need to be able to see the attachments on my phone. I have tried logging out of iMessage on my phone and on the iMac.
I have searched the boards for answers and have not found a concise answer. Any help is much appreciated.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I have tried as you suggested, and when opening the "purchased" apps some have the icloud logo next to them, but I only have "OPEN" against "Find My iPhone". When opening it up, it goes through the same routine; needs to be updated before proceeding, and wouldn't update because I don't have IOS8.
Anything else I could try, or am I doomed!

Gen5 iPod Touch ios 7 - crops all photos errantly during display.

I noticed that all photos get cropped (automatically - which i don't want), unless they are in a 16:9 aspect ratio. Thus, my photos are being displayed incorrectly. My ipad2 with ios7 scales the photos down while maintaining the original aspect ratio.
I use ios devices to run slideshows on external monitors - thus, this is a big deal... Its got to be a bug. I refuse to believe we have to resize and pad the boundaries of the photos to a HD video aspect ratio in order for them to be viewed with accurate proportions and in their entireity...

How to copy ALL photos off of IPhone 4S with IOS 6

Hey Guys,
Here's the issue:
On the IPhone 4S with IOS 6 certain photos end up outside of the "sandbox" (the MAIN album) and the only way to transfer those is to either "jailbreak" your IPhone which I do NOT recommend or MANUALLY transfer them picture by picture on IOS 6 for an Iphonne 4S.
SEVERAL of my customers and on my IPhone 4's had that limitation.
Is there ANY other app or COMPLETELY verified procedure to get ALL (please note I said ALL) photos off of an IPhone 4S with IOS 6? Without having to spend hours manually moving them into the main album.

Please explain to me what kind of photos end up outside the sandbox. Photos taken or saved with the phone are in the Camera Roll. Other photos on the iPhone would be synced via iTunes from the computer. Those pictures are already on the computer and can be removed from the phone via another sync. Importing the photos with import utility on the computer, like a digital camera is how to get the pictures. I'm not sure what these other photos are that you are referring to, or where they are coming from.

How to explain. OK 1st all photos are visible in my iPhoto library; however, some are stored on hard drive and some are stored on external. All can be viewed in itunes, but none on the external will sync to my iPad. What's up with that.

What really cheeses me off here is that Apple isn't allowing users enough customization. With each update of iTunes (and the OS and iOS) we're forced to give up something that worked well for the way we want to use the app and make do with fewer (and lamer) options. If Apple keeps this up, they're going to start losing customers fast. I mean if this isn't fixed soon, I'm pretty sure I'm going to give up on iTunes, and then I'll probably go ahead and get a Galaxy when I need to replace my iPhone.
What I don't understand about how they won't let users delete the list of available podcasts now is why? How is this making it a better program? I can understand that not all users are capable enough to right-click on a feed and select "Show all available episodes", so I can see why they want the complete list to be the default (and, surprise, it already was). But to not give users the option to delete that list? It's inconsiderate because it makes navigating feeds with a large back catalogue really frustrating. I'm flabbergasted that no one at Apple considered all the podcast feeds that keep hundreds of episodes available when they removed this feature. It smacks of rank incompetence.
What improvement were they trying to make here anyway? There was nothing wrong to my mind about how podcasts were managed in previous versions. Whatever improvement they were trying to make here, they should have realized that many users would at least want the option to keep things the way they were.
And reverting to a previous version is no solution. I can't sync my iPhone with the new iOS without this update, and (while I do have some issues--specifically how you can't play podcasts in the Music app anymore) I do like the new iOS.
