IMessages is Non Responsive / Working on Mavericks
Since I upgraded to Mavericks iMessages simply does not work. I can login and basically am stuck on whatever message / conversation I had last highlighted. It will not allow me to resize the window, access any of the menu items on the top bar, change conversation, etc. I have reset the time zone, changed the password, rebooted my machine, repaired the disk and done a clean install and still nothing. I am at my wits end and cannot get it to work. Does anybody have any insights they could share? I have a 2.7 GHx Intel 5, 16 GB 1333 MXz DD3 iMac. Any help is appreciated!

Imessage & Face Time not working on mavericks
Imessage and Face Time is not working on Maveriks!, any solution????
I try changing passwords, on Icloud, Apple ID, restarting, loug out and back in and nothing!Yeah I have a fix. I do not recommend you do this unless you know what you are doing.... go to the apple store and get a tech to get the serial number back into the bios of the mac.
You need to find your serial number on the bottom of your mac or if older mbp remove battery and it is inside the battery housing.
Use this program to write the serial number to the board.

FYI you don't need to use a CD you can use a USB and on bootup hold the option key down and you can boot from the USB stick.
If you have questions please do not hesitate to ask. -
HT6030 Mail is non responsive after installing Mavericks
Installed Mavericks one month ago and Mail has been acting weird. After looking at emails for a while it gets to the point that clicking on an email doesn't open the email or clicking on a different folder doesn't open that folder. When I open mail now, no emails show up in the preview. Can't click on anything.
I just installed the Mavericks Mail Update in the Apple Store and it resolved this problem.

Mavericks won't install, the button in App Store is blank and non-responsive.
This is extremely frustrating, and I have read every website trying to answer this issue. None of their problems match mine.
I tried to download Mavericks yesterday. It appeared to download as normal, with the icon in launch pad, but the progress bar never moved. I cancelled the download, and tried to restart it. The download button is non-responsive. I've tried going to the store tab, clicking unfinished downloads, and it says all downloads are complete.
When I go to purchases, Mavericks is listed under "other downloads," but the button is solid black with no text, e.g. download or install, and is non-responsive. Clicking the button does nothing.
I have tried using CCleaner to clean the app store's cache, restarting the computer with a full shutdown, quitting and restarting App Store, etc. Nothing works.
If I close and reopen App Store after a full shut down, Mavericks will disappear from the purchases menu. If I go to Mavericks, click "free upgrade," then button changes to "install." When I click install, nothing happens. Mavericks reappears under the purchases menu with its button, again, completely black with no text. The button is non-responsive.
Having a $2,500 Mac, I have to say that I am extraordinarily upset with the shoddy work of Apple over the past few years. For $2,500 I expect the product to work.Actually, it appears to have started downloading, even the the purchases tab still doesn't reflect it.
Try what I did, typing "sudo nvram boot-args="-x"" (include the quotations around the -x), and then entering your account password.
Reboot the system, which will cause it to do a full reboot (you'll find your mac operates very slowly). Log into your account, then try hitting "free upgrade" and "download" from the Mavericks page in app store (not the purchases tab). It will ask you for your Apple ID and password, then it *should* automatically take you to launch pad.
If the download doesn't seem to be progressing, press the icon in launch pad to pause it. Exit launch pad and scroll down in App Store to 'free apps" on the right side. Click to download one of them, enter your password and Apple ID as usual, and see if it downloads. Once finished, hit the Mavericks icon again to unpause it. It should start then. It's clearly a very large install, so over the past thirty minuites the progress bar has moved roughly a milimeter. -
Safari is non-responsive after intitial start up. Before it can load the homepage (google), it will hang and give a perpetual pinwheel until I force quit the program. Safari works in temporary user account but not in my primary user account. I have reinstalled osx via the command-r upon start up and the problem still persists. Any suggestions on how to reinstall or repair safari?
Thanks for thinking about my problem. I've already experimented with creating a new user, a co-administrator. The programs don't crash when that account is running, just as they don't crash when the guest-user's account runs. So it seems that the problem is limited to the default user's account, which is the one that was running when I installed the updates to the OS and the firmware. Another clue is that the programs that crash as soon as they are launched are *probably* the ones that were open at that time in that account. Yet deleting Saved Application States does not keep the programs from crashing when next launched.
So the mystery continues, but these additional facts will help with the diagnosis, I hope.
Thanks again for your suggestion.

After downloading Maverick on the MacBook Pro that I bought in 2011, I am unable to open iPhoto. The message says "You can't use this version of the application "iPhoto" with this version of OS X. You have "iPhoto" 9.2.3" What??? That is ridiculous. Why doesn't Maverick download everything? I've tried the "fixes" I found on this forum, but none of them work for me, because there is no workaround via the library. I can't access the library.
I have an old iPhoto version and it still works with Mavericks, the version before yours, that is puzzling.

I tried to set up a remote desktop connection between my MacMini and my work computer. It was not working so I hit cancel, but then the big black screen of death came up and will not go a way. I cannot close my computer nor quit the remote desktop connection. How do you close a non-responsive application? By the way, I am new to Mac and it is not as simple as hitting the Control, Alt, Delete. Please help.

Try ( alt + cmd + esc ). Gives you a menu of running applications, and a chance to "Force Quit". -
IPad was working fine & fully charged. Screen is now black & non-responsive. Is there something I can try or should I take to service center?
Try reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
Note: Data will not be affected. -
I bought Numbers because my Excel files would not work with Mavericks. How can I import a non-functioning Excel file into numbers? (As of now, the file NAME transfers but data does not.)
HI Dave,
I'm surprised you get no message when you attempt opening the Excel document in Numbers.
I'm assuming Numbers 3.1, since you are running Mavericks.
Does the Numbers file that opens show any content?
Does it contain a table?
How large?
Does it contain more than one tab (indicating more than one sheet)?
Do those other tabs contain a table?
Have you checked those tables for data content?
There have been cases in the past of imported documents opening with white text on a white background, giving the appearance of containing nothing. Check for this by selecting a block of cells, then applying a Fill colour or a Text colour using the Format button (paintbrush).
I'd also suggest attempting to open the Excel files using LibreOffice, which can be downloaded from the linked website.

How do I stop the download of Maverick on my MacBookPro? I started downloading then discovered that 2008 Word and Excel do not work with Maverick. I have too many files in the 2008 version to upgrade them at this time. I just need instructions in non technical terms to stop the Maverick download.
I did the same as Tapmr and have paused the "upgrade". So am I to understand that the upgrade only downloads and will not automatically install it? I am an extreme novice here, and cannot afford any issues after I upgrade/download. I don't know how to make a clone copy as you suggested either.
I need assurance that if the upgrade is allowed to continue that I will be able to delete the upgrade downloaded and continue on as before with my regular system. -
why iMessages, facetime, app store, etc I do not work in maverick? please solution thanks
Philip, many people have talked about this "blue lego" problem, but you are the first to explain it (migrating to Intel) that brings clarity to the issue. The Business and People widgets use small "webkit" plugins in order to do their work. However, the plugins on the PowerPC versions of these widgets are NOT Universal, and thus will not run on an Intel Mac.
Typically, this should never be an issue because an Intel Mac comes with widgets already installed (the Universal versions of these widgets, which include Universal versions of these plugins).
However, if I understand you correctly, you "migrated" your old files from your PowerPC Mac to your new Intel Mac. Is it possible you overwrote your Intel OS X default widgets (the 18 widgets in [Hard Drive]/Library/Widgets) with the versions from your old PowerPC Mac during this migration?
If so, then that is the source of your problem: you replaced your Universal widgets with PowerPC widgets. The solution is to reinstall your widgets from the Installer that came with your new Intel Mac. You can either re-install OS X entirely, or use Pacifist to just install those overwritten widgets. -
Volume button non-responsive. Speakers only work with specific functions, but all works perfectly with headphones usually.

Middle of browsing or working on word the computer becomes non responsive
Whilst typing on word doucment and move between browser and other windows/tabs unpredictably the macbook stops resonding and a rainbow colour pinwheel starts spinnign for ever needing the computer to be force switched off and restarted. any suggestions what could be wrong.
My computer is a laptop Satellite a665-s6086. The main video player I use is a VLC player. However, it also becomes non responsive on websites that stream video. This could be a random site, but videos from youtube have also caused my computer to become non responsive. I haven't tried other media players yet. I am not sure yet about a 2 hour movie. The other day, I got through a few shows before it started acting up, maybe about 2.5 hours worth of video.
When my computer becomes non responsive, I can't open other programs, and when I try to close open programs, they just freeze and do not shut down. If i try to close a web browser, I just get the (not responding) note in the tab bar. You can tell things start to not work when in the middle of a video, the noise kind of makes a gurgle sound I guess. Its the same sound video makes if I were to accidently bump or shake my computer. That noise is hard to describe. the video slows down a little, but usually I can finish watching it. When i power down my computer, i turn it off using the button and turn it back on. Everything boots up like normal, and things seem fine until I try watching another video. -
I have had problems with firefox crashing for the last three month. I have updated to the latest version with the crash protection. Now the flash player crashes about every 20 minutes or so. On your blog page you state that I will get the crash page when the plugin has been non-responsive for 45 seconds well with mine the games are going along just fine then wham crash page. Flash player was responding and you gave me crash report anyway. What's up???? Flash player is crashing within seconds not 45 seconds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your check plugin page always states that my plugins are UP TO DATE!!!!!
== This happened ==

== three months ago and getting worse with every upgrade you send!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'''''"I have had problems with firefox crashing for the last three month."'''''
You need to investigate the cause of your crashes that started prior to the release of the first Firefox version that offered crash protection, version 3.6.4, released in mid to late June 2010; that is just over one month ago.
<u>'''The crash protection feature does not prevent a plugin from crashing, it prevents the whole Firefox browser from crashing because of a crashing plugin; only the tab with the crashing plugin crashes.'''</u>
For information about report plugin crashes see: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Plugin+crash+reports
You need to post the crash Report IDs for the crashes occurring over the last 3 months. To do so, type '''about:crashes''' in the URL/location/address bar, then copy and paste the Report IDs (only) into your reply. See: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+crashes#Getting_help_with_your_crash
In addition, please do the following. Type '''about:support''' in the URL/location/address bar, on the screen presented, click "Copy all to Clipboard" and paste that into your reply.

Based on user issues I am reading should I even attempt this. One of my reasons of wanting to upgrade is to have the ability to upgrade to newer versions of certain programs such as Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop.
