IMessages no longer sync across devices

I've been using iMessage since it came out, and up until a few weeks ago all my devices were syncing beautifully! MacPro Desktop, iPad2, and iPhone 5. All running latest OS...
However recently, they are no longer syncing. Texts received by iPad (or Mac) are NEVER making it to my phone, which is NOT good! Texts received by phone aren't making it to the other 2. And at the same time, people are now complaining that they are getting messages from multiple "identities" for me now (all with the same name)...
I've been reading about this and have tried disabling iMessages on the two iOS devices and reactivating and verified all are set to use the same Apple ID, but still not working. I'm thinking this must be related to a recent iOS update, since there were two recently, but how the heck do I fix this?! I want it to work like before...!
Thanks SO much for any help!

Since updating to iod7, my iBooks app no longer syncs across devices. Please advise.
Frankly, the new iOS7 has many flaws that have shown up.

Hi mgoksoy,
Cheers for your reply.
It doesn't appear to affect every 4S. I don't know if theres specific batches it affects or maybe its location based, but i have a friend who has the same phone as me and theirs did exactly the same thing only after doing the firmware update. I'm pretty confident it is a bug. Looking around on google, it seems like its happening to a lot of other 4S users.
I have done a settings reset, didn't fix it. Did a settings and content reset, didn't fix it. Did a full recovery back to the backup i did when i first purchased it, didn't fix it. None of these things changes the firmware.
I am pretty appalled that apple would release a firmware upgrade with such an obvious problem for 4S users. Did they not test it first? Now i am finding multiple texts from people asking me things hours after they messaged me because the sounds don't work. Not impressed.

• Calendars no longer sync across devices after iOS/Mac OS X updates

Ever since updating my MacBook Air to Yosemite and my iPhone 6 to iOS 8.0.2 (or maybe 8.1.1), my calendars no longer sync correctly across devices. Prior to the updates, any addition or change I made to the calendar on my iPhone would be added to the calendar on my Mac the next time I synced my phone. Now I have duplicate events on my phone, the calendar on my Mac no longer incorporates changes from the phone and I get a dialog box on the Mac 2-3 times an hour about calendar conflicts. No matter how many times I review the conflicts and choose which events/updates to save, the box keeps coming back. I've never had a persistent issue like this with any previous iOS or Mac OS updates and I can't figure out why it won't stop. Help, please!

OK, that was easy enough. Here's what I took from the log when I synced a few minutes ago. I kept the log entry for one of the multiple calendar sync conflicts.

• Syncing across devices

I updated to Yosemite on my two Macs. I have previously uodated my iPad and iPod Touch to ios8. Now I can't sync across devices. What happened?

Firstly, MobileMe is dead, and there is no question of paying for it.
Your signature says you have 10.6.6 - is this correct? If it isn't please correct it to prevent confusion. if it is, you should firstly get the 10.6.8 combo updater to get it as high as Snow Leopard will go.
If you want to use iCloud's full facilities you need to upgrade to Lion: this is $29.99 in the Mac App Store (which you will need 10.6.8 to access). Your Mac will need to meet the requirements:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory
OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
7GB of available space
and your iPad will need to be running iOS5.
If you have not migrated your MobileMe account to iCloud, go to http://me.com (on your Mac) and follow the link to migrate: you need to do so as a matter of urgency as we don't know for how much longer this will be possible.
That done, in theory you should be able to access your email in Mail at the same server settings, but this hasn't worked for everyone: you can set Mail up manually to access your iCloud email:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard
Once migrated, your mail will also be available at http://icloud.com
Strictly speaking Snow Leopard cannot sync your calendars: there is an unsupported hack which has worked for some people.
If you can't, or don't want to, upgrade to Lion you might be interested in BusyCal, which is an iCal-like calendar application with extra facilities: it can sync with the iCloud Calendar while running on Leopard, Snow Leopard or Lion. A single user licence (two machines allowed) is $49.99.

• Calendar won't sync across devices and other issues

Hello all,
I am running latest versions of IOS 8 on IPAD Air2, iPhone5S and latest Yosemite on IMAC intel last year model.
There are few issues here....
In Mavericks when I edited an event in calendars it would show up almost immediately on my phone. No more. In Yosemite I would edit an event and it seems like a 50/50 chance it would RETAIN in the Yosemite calendar. And if it does, it does no sync across devices. This is a pain in my ***.
Second issue is when I use the 'shutdown' feature top left corner of OS X, the unit would begin to shut down then the spinning logo would keep spinning and unit would never shut down. The energy saver would take effect. I come from work thinking it was shut down, press the power button on back and the unit 'wakes' and continues with spinning shutdown logo.
Third issue, my iPhone randomly asks for the iCloud password, even though it is enable across all of my three devices.
Other than these issues I love Yosemite and IOS 8, but these are really kicking me from behind.
I appreciate any and all help!
Thanks

OK, are you sure the events you are adding are added to an icloud calendar, only iCloud calendars will sync. Tap the calendar button to make sure all your calendars are iCloud calendars. Are changes making it to iCloud.com

• Photos will not sync across devices in iOS 8.1

I have iOS 8.1.1 on both my iPad and my iPhone 5. After installing the new iOS and selecting 'iCloud Photo Library (Beta)' on both devices, the 'my photo stream' folder has disappeared and photos will not sync across devices. Everything was fine prior to installing the new iOS. Can anyone help me to fix this? Thank you!

Hi sueb21,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
If you are using iCloud Photo Library Beta there are some differences from what you may be use to. Please read over the attached article for information on how your pictures are now organized and for how you can turn it off if you choose to do so.
iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ - Apple Support
What happened to the My Photo Stream and Camera Roll albums?
The Camera Roll and My Photo Stream album are replaced with an All Photos album, which gives you the same compact scroll view, now with all your photos and videos organized by the date they were added. Learn more about finding photos in iOS 8.
After you enable iCloud Photo Library, all your original photos and videos are organized in one library. My Photo Stream will upload recent photos to share with your other devices, but iCloud Photo Library stores your originals. See how to upload originals below.
Have a great day,
Joe

• ICloud no longer syncs with devices.

iCloud no longer syncs with devices. Error message reads "The certificate for this server is invalid. You might be connecting to a server that is pretending to be "setup.icloud.com" which could put your confidential information at risk." I am not positive if this issue coincides with the update to OS6.0.

How nice. Thanks for sharing that with us. Do you have a question you would like to ask?

My "In Box" syncs across devices, but the "Sent" and "Trash" boxes do not. How do I ensure that all my mailboxes are syncing across all my devices, so that conversations can move back and forth regardless of which device I am using at the moment?

• Collections do not sync across devices - bookmarks do ???

Hello. I am trying to sync my books & PDF's between my iPhone 4S & iPad2. Both are running iOS 5.0.1 and all apps are up to date. Both have "sync bookmarks", "sync collections", & "online audio & vidoe" checked. I am using iCloud and both devices are backed up nightly....
I have manually pulled books and PDF's to each device; what is strange is that when I bookmark on one devicee (say the iPhone), the bookmark is recognized almost instantly on the other device (iPad).... BUT, when I add a book or pdf to one device, it doesn't automatically sync to the other device.....??

Let me revise my last post - Books purchased in the library DO sync across devices; items I place in iBooks from email, etc.. do NOT sync.

• I have a BT internet pop account and have been told this cannot sync across devices with iCloud. Is this true?

I have a BT internet pop account and have been told this cannot sync across devices using icloud. Is this true and are there ways round it?

That's correct. iCloud handles only its own email, and has no relationship with other accounts. It's in the nature of a POP service that messages are downloaded from the server to the machine - it was really designed for single-computer use in the days when a second computer was an unheard-of luxury. You can usually set the email client to leave message on the server either permanently or for a specified period, so that other devices can also access the messages, but of course they won't see replies or sent messages.
IMAP (which is what iCloud uses) is the better protocol to use - the messages live on the server and the various computers and devices read them from there, like webmail - and a service which provides that will behave in exactly the same way as iCloud but independently of it. You should ask BT if they can provide an IMAP version of the account - some ISPs provide both, some don't.

• Reminders no longer syncing between devices

Hi,
As the heading says, my reminders are no longer syncing between iPhone 5, iPad 3 and Mac 2011. I'm signed in to the same iCloud account on all devices, and my iPad and iPhone both have Reminders sync turned on in the settings.
Anyone have any idea about why this might be, or how to fix it?
Thanks, Steve
(It's also not always reminding me with a notification, which is a bit irritiating, and last week I had to delete duplicates that appeared on some devices - is iCloud a bit broke?)

ps, just tried this from another thread:
I was having this problem. I changed the syncing range on the phone (under Settings > Reminders) to sync "All Reminders". I then logged into iCloud and opened the Reminders tab. This actually caused the reminders on the phone to match the ones in iCloud. I then made changes on my phone while that tab was still opened and the changes started to appear in iCould (sometimes takes a few seconds - up to 20 or 30) and synched on my iPad as well. After that, all of my changes started to sync across all devices - iPhone, iPad,Mac and in iCloud, regardless of where I made the initial change.
This works to some degree but just deleted all the reminders from my iPhone that hadn't been synced to the iCloud. Hmmmmm... Not a fix I'd recommend but I guess it works

• Pdf sync across devices does not work

is anyone experiencing problems with syncing PDF files across devices? My PDFs are not the same across the 3 devices I use.

So I managed to solve this Problem.
First: Be patient in itunes, as it takes some amount of time for changes to show up there. (after 10s it should be there - I also closed the applications quite often.)
Second make a backup of your calendars in the calendar app - you should have a file with a icbu-ending that contains your data. It's most likely you won't lose data.)
do a filesystemrepair on the basic level - reboot and hold cmd + s to boot into single user mode and type in fsck -fy and wait for your mac to finish the filesystem repairs (if there were any errors to be corrected.)
Reboot and do a parameter reset hold down cmd + option + p + r and wait for the second startup sound.
Turn on iCloud-sync for my calendar within OS X (Mountain Lion 10.8)
Turn on iCloud-sync on my iPad (iOS 5.1.1)
Turn iCloud-sync off on both devices and swipe both calendars. (On my iPad it went through right away - only birthdays from Contacts left. - On the Calendar-App in OS X I had leftovers.)
Checked my Calendar-app and deleted all leftovers and closed Calendar. - I repeted this step a few times until iTunes would only show me one last calendar named "Calendar")
I confirmed that i was close by creating a new test-calendar in the calendar-App named test which showed up in iTunes (Hurra!)
I restored my calendars with the import-function in the calendar-app.
I cleaned up duplicate Google-Webcals.
I synced the calendar with iTunes AND replaced the entries on my iPad.
I synced with my iPhone AND replaced the entries there as well.
I did a last sync with my idevices.
Poooh. Thanks half a day later I'm back to normal. Calendars showing up again on my mac and my iDevices.

• Syncing across devices without using mobileme

Hi, I use ical on my ipad for all my work and personal dates. I gather I need to pay for mobileme to sync across my ipad, iphone and macbookpro. However, I thought mobileme was being discontinued and also, doesn't the cloud take care of all of that?
A subsidiary point is that I recently had to purchase a new hard drive and I've really lost confidence in having the laptop as my master for docs and trust the ipad far more.
Any thoughts please, from anyone?
Thanks - J.

• Messages Not Syncing across devices with iOS 8

Hi all,
Since December 2014 and an update at that time my iMessages stopped syncing correctly.
Some messages sync some don't.
I send from my iPhone5c and it doesn't show up on my iPadAir.
Reply will go to my iPadAir and not to my iPhone5c
If one of my devices is off then no messages will go to it and it won't sync once turned back on.
I have done the: turn off iMessages, quit program, turn off devices. Restart and turn on iMessages again on devices. This hasn't fixed the issue.
My number and emails are all correct on devices. I am logged in on devices. They just adhocly sync.
Any other ideas?

They are received normally for me and everyone I know using 8.3. Are you using WiFi or cellular data? Has these devices ever been hacked/jailbroken, at any time?
If not, try these steps as needed:
Reset: press both home and lock buttons for at least 10 seconds, releasing when the Apple logo appears
Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
Restore to factory settings using iTunes, also restoring a backup
Restore to factory settings as new, without using a backup
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

• IMessage thread with no content, no sync across devices

I have iMessage activated on my iPhone, iPad, and Mac Air. I noticed this morning that an iMessage thread without any content appeared on my iPad with a 9:18 A.M. timestamp.
While I do have a thread with this contact on my phone, there was no activity at 9:18 A.M. on my phone. Messages Beta on my laptop likewise does not reflect any activity at that time and, in fact, does not even have any thread with the said contact.
Any idea why this happened? I am afraid that I may have been sent an important message and am missing out on it.

Hi,
I will take the 5 points.
See this section http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMessage#Technology
To Quote
While there are sources that claim the iMessage protocol is based on XMPP,[10] the protocol is actually based on the Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) – a proprietary, binary protocol.[11] It sets up a Keep-Alive connection with the Apple servers. Every connection has its own unique code, which acts as an identifier for the route that should be used to send a message to a specific device. The connection is encrypted with TLS using a client side certificate, that is requested by the device on the activation of iMessage.[11]
Apple claims that iMessages are protected by end-to-end encryption "so no one but the sender and receiver can access them" and assures that "[Apple] cannot decrypt the data" and "[Apple does] not log messages".[12]
