IMessages not functioning on Mac OS X 10.8.2

I cant decide if this is a Mountain Lion problem or not... I updated to ML and all was fine. I recently got a new iPhone and set that up for iMessage etc. This was in England. I have recently moved to South America. My account is still attached to England to make use of the wider store.
Since I set up the phone, it seems, my iMessages cannot be sent or received on my Mac. They come through fine on the iPad and iPhone, but even when I compose on the Mac, they go off into the ether and it doesnt even show up in the conversation window as being sent. I know for sure the messages are going nowhere.
I have tried to disable my Google Chat, I have logged off and on again for iMessage. I have checked all the settings and they are all set up to receive and send from @gmail and @icloud accounts.
Can anyone please help?

Hi,
I went off to read Eric's link.
The Link says it was updated on the 18th Feb 2013  but actually reads about Messages in OS X 10.8 and 10.8.1 and pre iOS 6 on the iPhone.
After the OS X 10.8.2 and iOS 6 updates the iPhone Number was also included in the Sync to the Messages app on the Mac.
So the iPhone is managing using at least the Cell/Mobile Phone Coverage to Receive and Send iMessages but the Mac is not.
I take it the Mac is using the same Apple ID ?
If Wifi or Ethernet on the Mac is the iPhone using the same Network ?
You seem to be saying the Mac Messages app is starting up and you are thinking you are sending iMessages but nothing is clear.
Are you getting a list (even if One) Chats down the Left hand side of the main Message window ?
If you click on them what is then in the text field on the Bottom of the right hand pane ?
Does it read iMessages ?
Your references to Googletalk and @icloud.com have me a bit confused.
An Googlemail ID can have the "talk" option Enabled at your Google Settings an then the ID can be used in Messages.
The Apple ID can be used for both iMessages  and as an Valid AIM Screen Name (you have to enter it is iMessages and as an AIM account in the Add Account Pane).
I am not entirely sure you are using it in AIM or iMessages or whether it is separate from iMessages.
I did not receive any emails alerts from the posts I made yesterday.
It is also Late here so it will be a while before I get back

  • IMessages not functioning on OS X Mountain Lion's Messages

I just noticed that I am unable to send or receive iMessages on the Messages app on OS X Mountain Lion.
I checked the accounts, and the only two active are my facebook chat (which I regularly use) and Google talk. I do not see an iMessage account. When I try to add an account, the types are Yahoo, Jabber, AIM, and Google Talk. It doesn't seem any of these fits.
I am signed in to my Apple ID on my Mac and iCloud has everything enabled. What is the issue?

    Hi Plasma,
It sounds like you may be looking at the Mail, Contacts & Calendars option under System Preferences. You need to set the iMessage account information up in the Messages app. Open the app, then select Preferences from there:
    Cheers,

  • IMessages not delivered on Mac

I have an iPhone 6 and MacBook Pro 2001 - everything is up to date. My iMessages stopped sending on my Mac showing a red error "not delivered" every time i try to send any iMessage, but SMS works for those without iPhones. I have read so many posts and tried just about everything and nothing is working for the past 2+ month. I haven't had the time to get help from apple because I am in grad school and need my laptop most of my time. If anyone has any suggestions please help!!!

    Back up all data.
Quit Messages if it’s running. Force quit if necessary. Relaunch it and test after each of the following steps. If the problem isn't resolved, quit again and go on to the next step.
    Step 1
Make sure you know the ID and password you use with iMessage. Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain.
From the Category list in the lower left corner of the window, select
               My Certificates
Look carefully at the list of certificates in the right side of the window. If any of them is marked with a red "X" as expired or invalid, delete it. Also delete all items with "iMessage" or "com.apple.idms" in the name, whether valid or not.
    Now select
                Passwords
in the Category list. Enter "ids" (without the quotes) in the search box in the toolbar of the window. Delete all items of type "application password" that have a name beginning in any of the following ways:
                ids:
                IDS:
                com.apple.ids:
Quit Keychain Access. Log out and log back in.
    Step 2
Hold down the option key and select
              Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. Move the following items from the Library folder to the Trash (some may not exist):
              Containers/com.apple.corerecents.recentsd
              Caches/com.apple.Messages
              Caches/com.apple.imfoundation.IMRemoteURLConnectionAgent
              Containers/com.apple.iChat
              Containers/com.apple.soagent
              IdentityServices
Leave the Library folder open. Log out and log back in.
    Step 3
Go back to the Finder and move the following item from the open Library folder to the Desktop:
              Messages
Note: you are not moving the Messages application. You’re moving a folder named “Messages.”
If Messages now works, delete the Messages folder on the Desktop. Otherwise, quit Messages again. Put back the folder you moved, overwriting the newer one that may have been created in its place.
    Step 4
In the Preferences subfolder, there may be several files having names that begin with any of the following strings:
              com.apple.iChat
              com.apple.ids
              com.apple.imdsmsrecordstore
              com.apple.imessage
              com.apple.imservice
Move them all to the Desktop. There may also be a file with the name "com.apple.imagent.plist". Move that to the Trash.
Also in the Preferences folder, there's a subfolder named "ByHost". Open it and do the same thing.
Log out and log back in. Test again. This time Messages should perform normally, but your settings will be lost. You may be able to put back some of the files you moved to the Desktop in this step. Relaunch and test after each one. Eventually you should find one or more that causes Messages to malfunction. Delete those files and recreate whatever settings they contained.
If the issue is still not resolved, quit Messages again and put all the items you moved to the Desktop back where they were. You don’t need to replace the items you moved to the Trash. Stop here and post your results.
If you later decide that you don’t like the results of Steps 3 and 4, you can undo them completely by quitting Messages and restoring the items you deleted in those steps from your backup.

  • IMessages not mirroring between Mac and iPhone

Trying out Messages like everybody else!
First I signed in with the wrong Apple ID. Now I'm actually logged into iCloud with the same Apple ID on both my Mac and my iPhone. Parenthetically, I would like to wonder out loud how synchronization of addresses, calendar items and notes ever happened before, with mismatched Apple IDs.
The problem is that I don't see that the iMessages I send in Messages on the Mac are mirrored in Messages on my iPhone. Anybody else seeing this? It makes me wonder, whether this is beta behavior or whether I still don't have everything configured correctly.

Actually even now its operation seems to be sporadic in success.
Below I have 3 different devices setup with the same credentials (using [email protected] as the Apple ID and caller ID).
    1. Test One, I started a new conversation on Messages on the iMac, that message gets synced over on the iPhone but doesn't make it to the iPad.
    2. Test Two, the Second message was typed on the iPhone and syncs through on all devices.
    3. Test Three, the Third message was typed on the iPad, this message gets synced on the iPhone, but doesn't make it through to the iMac.
So all devices prove to a point that they are setup for the same account but have limited success in syncing through to the other devices.
I know this is only Beta, but I'm worried that such a fundamental flaw in the system causing intermittent syncing of messages across devices is technically a catestrophic failure at the end of the day, imagine a real world situation where I'm sure I had a conversation, but until I check several devices, I can't be sure what was said just in case some messages didn't sync through!?!?!    That has the potential of making the service completely useless if you can't trust the accuaracy of your message history!!

  • IMessage not functioning correctly

since the last software update imessage works but if I turn iMessage off on another phone it will not send it as a text message automatically like it used to,
i have made sure the send as SMS when iMessage is unavailable is on
i have tried this on several phones iPhone 5s and iPhone 4s
any suggestions or known faults ? Is it a software glitch ?
    thanks in advance

It seems that Apple is aware of the issue and working already on a fix for that that should be released "immediately"

  • Camera Raw 4.2 will not function on MAC OS 10.5

I am on a Intel Mac running OS 10.5.0. Neither Bridge or Photoshop CS3, which, before I upgraded to an Intel Mac, would open all my photos in Camera Raw, will not do so now. Rather, the file menu line "Open In Camera Raw" is now grayed out. I have downloaded and placed in the root library the latest version of 4.2 (14) and still can not use Camera Raw.

    Robert,
You only have to look through some of the thread subjects and/or do a search, but there are known issues with Raw processing on Mac's Leopard. Adobe has said to anticipate a fix around Mid-November. I'm not sure what Camera you use, but there is also a recent issue with Canon 40D cameras with the 1.0.4 firmware. Likewise expect a fix from Adobe (probably at the same time). In addition, there are "hints" that both Canon will have a 1.0.5, and that Apple will have a 10.5.1 also in the near future.

  • Imessage not functioning with restrictions 'on'

I just updated my iphone 4 to OS5. I activated imessage but when I turn restrictions 'on' imessage reverts to 'off' The restrictions that I have are : Facetime and Ping are 'off' and location and accounts are set to 'no change'. I can't see any logical relationship between imessage and restrictions. Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks

Thanks so much Meg. Doesn't make me real happy though. When I want to send enhanced msgs and not get charged by my greedy service provider, I now know what to do. This begs the question, what is Apple thinking?

  • Keyboard does not function after mac mini goes idle

Hi. Interesting issue. New keyboard on my mac mini. Identification of keyboard (cheap Dynex) works fine. If I let mini go idle/screensaver, when it wakes up, it does not recognize the keyboard at all. Cannot manually force it to recognize either. Restart works like a charm and all is good until it goes idle again.
    Anyone seen this? Any ideas?
    Thanks.

I used a couple of cheapo PC oriented USB keyboards when I got my first Mac mini. They had issues where they would stop working after sleep, screen saver activation, or would start doing double key strokes, and other glitches. Honestly, if it's not an Apple keyboard or specifically made for the Mac, I've always had the keyboard develop issues at some point. I strongly suggest getting a proper Apple or made for Mac keyboard. It has solved all of my keyboard issues.

  • WRT310N - Access restriction not functioning by MAC address

I am trying to block internet access on my kids computer so they can do homework weekday nights.
I have it set to Deny  on a specific MAC address (yes, I double checked the MAC ID), for specific hours during the week.
Yet the internet access still exists during these times.

Try with IP address, but most of the times the Access restrictions on the Linksys router doesn't function correctly. Go for some third party software, which can serve your purpose.

  • IMessage not syncing between mac and iphone

I recently upgraded to Mavericks (10.9.3) and iMessages no longer sync between my iPhone and my Mac Pro.  I've checked the Support data base as well as Google and have followed the recommendations to check preferences on all devices and to restart all devices, but that doesn't seem to have solved the problem.  Messages being sent from my iPhone 4S simply don't show up on my Mac.  Can anyone provide assistance/ideas??

Associate your mobile number with your Apple ID, if you haven't already done so.
Sign out of iMessage on the Mac:
Messages ▹ Preferences ▹ Accounts ▹ Sign out
    and on the iPhone:
Settings ▹ Messages ▹ Send & Receive ▹ Apple ID ▹ Sign out
    Then, on the phone, tap
Use Your Apple ID for iMessage
Sign back into iMessage on both devices and test. If there's no change, you may have to wait for a change in network conditions.

  • HT3529 I have lost all data on my iphone and the back-up is too old. How can I restore iMessage chats on my iPhone 4? I have all the chats on my Mac, but there seems to be no sync function from Mac to iphone. Please advice.

    Hi,
I have lost all data on my iphone by mistake. I needed to restore the phone and I didnt realize my back-up was 1yr old, and now the phone is restored and I've got a year old contact list and iMessage chat history. Luckily my iMessage on the Mac is still valid and has all the chat history. My question is how can I restore iMessage chats on my iPhone 4 from my Mac? I have all the chat history on my Mac, but there seems to be no sync function from Mac to iphone. Please advice.

If things seem to be going haywire with your phone, it seems that it MAY be a software issue.
Now, that being said, that does not necessarily mean that it is a virus. Software issues do happen sometimes. It is probably just coincidence.
What you need to do is restore the device using iTunes. This will fix any software issues. After you have done this, you can restore from an iCloud backup.
iCloud does not back up the actual software, so no, the "virus" would not have gotten into the backups.
The link below provides steps on restoring your device using iTunes as well as how to restore from an iCloud backup.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
Don't worry! Everything should be back to normal if you follow these steps.
