IMic / Final Vinyl killed my sound!

Brand new iMac with OS X Tiger. I installed iMic yesterday, and hooked up a cassette deck. When first running Final Vinyl (1.1.2) I heard the sound OK in 'preview.' Then, no sound. Re-start, and the sound works, but is up one octave (like the Chipmunks) but at correct speed.
I downloaded another recorder to see whether the iMic was working, and audio played just fine. But - Final Vinyl still has Alvin and the Chipmunks sound.
Now - all wav files and movie sound files do not seem to play - whether AOL, Windows Media Player (for mac os x) or even quicktime. My computer has gone silent. Note - Mac system sounds still work, like the beep when you drag the volume control. Windows Media Player told me that I have a codec problem on a movie I just played yesterday. I got the Mac to get rid of "codec problems."
Any help?
It sounds like others have the same problem with iMic- see] Brian Holmstrom, "Can't record audio from audacity", 07:36pm Aug 13, 2005 CDT]

I had that Alvin and the Chipmunks problem with Final Vinyl under Panther and couldn't resolve it -- I finally gave up and used Audacity, which worked fine until I upgraded to Tiger a few days ago. I've downloaded and tried Wiretap Pro, Hijack Audio Pro and Amadeus. All three work, but except for Amadeus, none offers the functionality of Audacity. It seems Tiger may be incompatible with several, but not all, external sound sources/programs.

  • IMic:  deleting files from Final vinyl

I've just purchased the iMic. Its easy to use and has good results.
Once I've recorded a song, I import into iTunes.
I am unable to delete the original wave file which is saved in the Final Vinyl software.
    iTunes saves it as MP3.
Has anyone had this experience? I've contacted the manufacturer but they
    won't help.
    thanks

Thank you for your response but actually my files were not saved in that folder.
I did locate them finally, in another folder: music folder. I assumed I had to be in the application to manipulate the files but I couldn't do anything within the application.
    thanks for your input.

  • Final Vinyl volume varies

I recently bought iMic with Final Vinyl, have it connected directly to my turntable, and have been researching and experimenting with the filter options. I finally concluded that the best settings for me were the one that simply sounded the best to me. Thus, I have EQ set with the gain turned very slightly down to avoid clipping and have chosen the Treble Reducer option. These are the only 2 filters I have activated. My problem is that during recording and playback in iTunes, the volume repeatedly randomly reduces, builds to a certain level and reduces again. I can find no reference to this problem in any of the Audio or Tiger disussions. Does anyone know if there is a setting in Final Vinyl that will stop this? I have also considered recording through the tuner/pre-amp that belongs with the turntable thinking this might help.
    Any advice is welcome.

I am told by Griffin Technology Technical Support that the 2 are compatible.

  • Can't locate songs imported through Final Vinyl. I have used it to import hundreds of songs, but haven't used it recently. Is it no longer compatible???

I am importing for the first time with this Mac and this version of iTunes. The songs are in a Music folder as .aiff files, just as they always were. I select them to import, but I don't think anything is happening. I have searched for them by song title several different ways; they don't seem to be there.
I sure hope Apple didn't have the wise idea to render Final Vinyl incompatible with iTunes...

If you already added them to iTunes, they will not get re-aded.
I sure hope Apple didn't have the wise idea to render Final Vinyl incompatible with iTunes...
It's not Apple's job to stay compatible with 3rd party software.
3rd party software needs to stay comatible with Mac OS.
Final Vinyl was last updated in April 2008, 6 years & +5 OS version ago.
and not being able to find the songs in iTunes or import them has nothing to do with it working or not.

  • Final Vinyl 2.5.1 & USB turntables

Can Final Vinyl v.2.5.1 be used with a USB turntable? If so, can I then import the digitized LP files into iTunes v.10.2.1 (1) ? Thanks very much.

I am told by Griffin Technology Technical Support that the 2 are compatible.

  • Final Cut Pro changing sound speed

Part of my job is making sure that final mixes sync with the appropriate video delivery of NTSC, PAL, or regular 24fps film speed. Lately I've discovered that when I sync final mixes that I know should be synced to 25 or 24 fps picture they suddenly become 29.97 and I need to change their speed to 99.9% for proper sync. I've checked my settings and they are the appropriate speeds (PAL, 24, etc..,) Does anyone know if Final Cut will automatically change the speed of your sound upon import?

If your audio track has something other than a 48 Khz sampling rate, it will just beep beep on playback until you render it. I never heard it fade out and then get louder though -- possibly because I know exactly why it's doing that and never listened long enough??
I guess you will either have to wait for someone that also uses that device to read your post or mail their support people directly.

  • Exporting From Final Cut to Quicktime - Sound Synch Issues

    Hi
Just wondering if anyone can help me - I have created a 15minute piece - everything is working & looking fine in Final Cut Pro - I export it into a .MOV file via the Quicktime compressor - then watching it through at about 10 minutes the footage appears to 'cut' and from then on the sound is out of synch...
Not really too sure why this is or what has happened - on the timeline the footage in question has no cuts or anything...
I am a little stuck and would appreciate any ideas!
    Thanks

The apple page (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164931) only gives a partial answer. First, if you are making it to watch on TV make sure you use the "title safe" setting in the canvas. You will get two blue boxes. The outer box shows what will appear on your TV screen, and I have found it to be pretty true. I have found that for my videos I need to set the scale to 90% (found under motion on the viewer) to fit the frame. I also put in chapter markers because it lets me jump around as I wish.
Next, when you go to export, Choose QuickTime movie. At the bottom of the window are three pop-up menus, settings, include, and markers. The last two are easy. Under "include" you want "Audio and Video". Under "markers" choose chapter markers if you made any. Under "setting" you can choose what you want, but I like to go to "custom" because it shows me exactly what all the settings are. For the video setting in the U.S. you want DV/DVCPRO - NTSC.
As the Apple page says, do not select "Make Movie Self-Contained." If you are going to import it into iDVD a self contained movie is pointless. It also takes much longer to export. A movie that took 35 to 40 minutes to export as a self contained movie took 5 minutes when I unchecked the box. Also, self-contained movies take up a whole lot of space.

  • Final Cut Express HD/Sound track

    Two questions:
First, Does Shake work with Final Cut Express HD?
Secondly, I am missing weapson and explosions on my Soundtrack, I tried reinstalling the CD-rom, it did not replace the two missing sounds. Any ideas?
Should I unstall all of Final Cut and reinstall the entire program?

    1. Shake does not work directly with FCE HD. Or at least, not that I know of. You must probably just export from Shake and import to FCE. Or perhaps you should go with FCS, as it most likely integrates more closely with Shake.
    2. Upon opening up the application Soundtrack, I too do not have anything installed for the category 'Weapons' & 'Explosions'. Perhaps it put the categories in, but it did not install any, instead letting you go out and buy more Apple Loops, or just Loops in general. Speaking of 3rd Party Loops, try this website for any sound effects, it is very broad:

  • Final Cut Pro 7 Sound Card Problem...

    Hello,
Im not really sure how to even explain my problem but Im going to try because Im going nuts over here.
I just bought a mbox 2 mini and am using it as a soundcard. Usually everything works fine but sometimes when in FInal Cut Pro 7 the sound drops out completely and my speakers become silent with the exception of a "put...put...put...put..put" sound. Gradually gets softer until it dissapears...and then it gets loud again and repeats.
    Any ideas?

  • ITunes killed my sound card (code 52 in device manager)

I am running Win 7 x64 and installed iTunes for the first time yesterday and today I have no sound. I looked in the device manager and I have a yellow exclamation mark next to my sound card (Asus Xonar DS PCI). In the error description it says:-
'Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)'
After googling I notice this is a known issue with iTunes. Normally this problem affects optical drives in which case it is fixed by deleting the UpperFilters somewhere in the registry.
BUT what do I do in the case of a broken sound card?
    Grateful for any help!

Sorry, when I said 'kill' i meant it stopped it from playing sound not actually damaging the hardware. I am guessing iTunes must be installing an unsigned driver which hooks into the sound card driver and hence windows believes the sound card driver is unsigned. And because 64-bit windows requires drivers to be signed it blocks the device from starting. Just my guess correct me if i'm wrong.
To be honest, i cant see a different pci slot working as it seems more like a problem on the driver level rather than IRQ conflicts etc.
Changing sound card may work because it would be using a different driver altogether (Realtek HD audio), but that would be £40 wasted on my new sound card. Actually I might be better off selling it and getting better speakers instead.
If I get the time, I will try once more installing itunes with the Xonar and then with the Realtek.
Will post results when i get them.

  • Itunes 10.1.2.17 upgrade killed my sound, music scroll bar doesn't move

After upgrading to 10.1.2.17 on 1/30/2011 all sound ceased on my system. Updated the sound card driver to no avail. No conflict in compatability mode. When song selected in iTunes, the play bar doesn't move nor do movies have audio in quicktime. There is no sound in any program.
    Thoughts?

Katrina, Thank you for your reply. I followed the directions from your link about using msconfig, and did what it said. Upon started I loaded iTunes without Bonjour running and playing songs worked fine. No delay and going from track to track was quick. So then I quit iTunes and started Bonjour like it said and it still ran fine. So it must be something I deselected in msconfig. I'll have to go back and look.
There were 3 temp files before, but I did another fresh install of iTunes and now it has only one temp file. Called Temp File.tmp. Oh I just looked now and it has another one, oops it just disappeared again. The time stamp on it for it's Modified date is Sunday February 13, 2011 5:28pm and it's Accessed time is Yesterday, February 28, 2001 11:25am, and it's Created time is Yesterday February 28, 2011 11:25am.
I use Microsoft Security Essentials for my antivirus and under it's ignore files I told it to ignore the temp file as well as the itunes library files. But was still having trouble after doing that. Using my Apple TV 2, music still played fast also without any delay. I have a fairly large library though. 140GB or so of Music, 80Gb of Movies and 10GB of Podcasts. So I thought maybe since I've been adding more Movies it caused iTunes to slow down.
I'll try rebooting now by adding Apple Mobile Device to startup and see if anything changes since it's still stopped. iPod Service is running as well as bonjour and all is ok.
Since when I did a fresh intall of windows all I did was install iTunes, so the only other startup things I have are 3 from Intel called common user interface, my microsoft security client and Keepass my password program. Only quick time and itunes are enabled in startup right now. So I will go back and add each of those things and see which one is causing the problem. Thanks again.

  • Did the Itunes update fiasco of 2014 kill my sound card?

I have read every post regarding  this Apple fiasco but this has been a perfect storm of Apple failure for  me, the only reason I opened my Itunes 2 nights ago was because my Ipod  of 5 years died and I had to buy a new one, so my love for Apple has  diminished greatly in the last 24 hours.
Running: Microsoft windows XP media center edition version 2002 service pack 3.
I  know enough about computers to be dangerous, I may have deleted  something for the sound card trying to get this Itunes re-install to work. I've been able  to follow everything posted like:https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5822688?tstart=30 I have deleted EVERYTHING more than once, restarted MORE than once, I  even tried loading an older version of Itunes, but the problem I'm  running into is my sound card can't or won't be detected, it was working  fine before this fiasco so I'm not sure if it's the re-install that has  caused it to be undetected or maybe it just died at the perfect time. I  keep getting this message: I tunes has detected a problem with your aiudio/video configuration and playback may not operate properly.  I  can see video but no sound, I can get into my Itunes library but  nothing will play, my sound card doesn't even show up in my devices  section anymore.
I  read a post that said something about messing with the msconfig and the  inetcpl.cpl and the dxdiag in the START/RUN area so I may have done  something stupid.
    HELP! (Apple hate) HELP!

THe update messed up my 80gb too. I spent over an hour on the phone with Apple care yesterday - and they screwed it up even worse. (I manage music & video from my home computer and my calander from my work computer.) It used to work fine - now I can't even get my work computer to recognize the ipod as a USB drive! If they would just re-post 7.5, I think I could fix it myself - but they took it off the site completely.
I told (both people at) Apple care that this is the kind of crap microsoft pulls. They send out updates with bugs. Apple is supposed to NOT do that! I am so mad right now! I just got this brand new ipod for Christmas.
Today, I am supposed to order my new laptop for work. I have been given the choice of PC or Mac. Until yesterday, I was gun-ho Mac. Now I'm not so sure. I mean - they couldn't fix my new ipod after an hour on the phone? What kind of issues am I going to have with a laptop? The closest Apple store is well over an hour away.
    Any suggestions??

  • IPod Killed my Sound Quality

I recently bought my wife an iPod. Shortly after plugging it in the first time I noticed that the sound quality playing through my soundsticks is horrible. The music is flat, muffled and sounds like an old AM radio. I tried turning off the sound enhancer, I saved my eq settings and then messed with them. Nothing works. I pulled a song out of my library and played it side by side (alternating) on iTunes and Quicktime player and the difference is night and day. iTunes is flat and QT is full, rich sound with lots of highs and low end punch.
I have seen some similar postings on the boards, anyone have any solutions yet? I am using iTunes 7.02.

    Purchased iWow plug...
