IMix Search Ineffective

What am I crying about...
I was searching for my own iMix on iTunes. It took me a long-assed time to find it. Here's why...
1) Searching by name doesn't work.
The title of my playlist is "Alternative as I Wanna Be." It's a crappy title, I can admit that. But, I couldn't find it by typing "Alternative" in the iMix search. No, that would seem too logical.
If you search iTunes for "Fiddler," you can find "Fiddler on the Roof." Simple. If you type "Alternative" in iMix, you find everything but "Alternative as I Wanna Be." For some reason, the iMix search can't deciper the fact that "Alternative" is, in fact, one of the words in the title. You or I could figure this out. Why can't a computer?
2) Sorting by rating is useless.
Other sites that have rating systems, like YouTube, have a good thing going. Not only are results sorted by rating when you choose to "sort by rating," but the number of times rated is accounted for. This way, some a-hole can't go on, give his post a 5-star rating, and laugh at what suckers the rest of us are.
iTunes' iMix search, however, does not work this way. I can't understand why a playlist rated once at 5 stars gets higher billing than a playlist rated 570 times at 4.5 stars. That's not how the world works... that's not how life works. Change it.

I haven't even tried it yet, but found this on another thread:
On the iTunes Store main page, click on iTunes Essentials in the More in Music section at the right side. When the iTunes Essentials page comes up, click iMix in the More in Music section on the left side.
Then you can browse. Don't see any way to search.

  • No longer an iMix Search Bar?

Does anyone know why there is no longer an iMix search bar? When I go to "iMix" there isn't a search bar in the left-hand corner like there used to be. On the right though there are two options that say "How do I make an iMix" and "Go to my iMixes". Thanks in advance if anyone knows.

There's a bunch of features that are unavailable for the holidays. Such things may include the following:
    - Complete My Album
    - My Alerts
    - iTunes Plus upgrades (iTunes Plus purchases will continue to work)
    - Just for You
    - iMix searches
    - Viewing Purchase History
    Should be back up soon.

  • How do I put a link to an imix search on a web page

I want to put a link on a web page to a search for every imix with IHDA in the title.
    how do I do that?

Right-click the title of the iMix, and choose "Copy link." Paste it where you want it. You will get something like this:
    http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewIMix?id=363873831&s=143441

  • WHERE IS iMIX SEARCH BUTTON???

This has been driving me a little bonkers!!! Why can't I search for iMixes???

On the iTunes Store main page, click on iTunes Essentials in the More in Music section at the right side. When the iTunes Essentials page comes up, click iMix in the More in Music section on the left side.
Then you can browse. Don't see any way to search.

  • TOOK AWAY "SEARCH" FUNCTION IN iMIX???

How are we supposed to search iMixes if there's no "search" field anymore???
Did it get moved or is there a new way of searching the iMixes in the iTunes store?

Okay, everyone calm down. The iTunes Store apparently turned off a number of features including Just For You, Complete My Album and iMix Search during the heavy Xmas rush. I believe they're supposed to be turned on in the next couple of days.

  • IMix Quality

Does anyone whether Apple has any plans to improve how iMixes are weighted and sorted. Let's say I want to find a good iMix for my workouts. If I go to the iMix search button and look for mixes that have "work out" in the title, I am presented with 105 results. If I then sort by popularity, the second most popular iMix has 4.5 stars but only 3 votes! and it's not very good, not by anyone's measure (except for three people, apparently). Isn't there a better way to create weighted measures of iMix popularity, improve the the sort functions, etc. Amazon and Ebay have made an art of this. Surely there's a way to do it that's a little more sophisticated than just sorting by the average rating, regardless of how many people have voted on the mix.

You're in a user forum, but you can make the suggestion to Apple on their feedback page.

  • In the Thunderbird Mail Toolbar, can you change the name of an icon? I would like to change "Write" to "Compose".

Couple of months ago I switched from MacMail to Thunderbird. The transition has gone pretty well, but I am less than enamored of T-bird Toolbar button (named Write) that you use to compose a new email. I would prefer it to be named "Compose". So I was just wondering whether there's any easy (or not) way to do that. I have done some searching for an answer to this, but I'm either searching ineffectively or there's nothing around. TIA.

You are welcome. Personally, I'm applying a bunch of patches (other than string changes) for each release, and hacking omni.ja works well for me. It's basically an optimized ZIP file and can be unpacked with many common tools. However, it may break when trying to ''re''pack it. Thus, unpack it completely into some new temporary folder, make any changes there, rename the original omni.ja and zip the folder contents into the new omni.ja (obviously while Thunderbird is down).
A more permanent option might be to create an extension that adds a "clone" of the "Write" button to the main toolbar, which is identical except for having the desired label and a different id (or maybe the same id would just override it?), then you can swap it from the toolbar's customization dialog. This certainly has a learning curve but you would be done with doing this effort once. Someone experienced in add-on writing would need to help you here (which I'm not).
Anyway, plenty of ways to screw things up. ;-)

  • What happened the the "Just For You" section?

Can't find it anywhere, even in the preferences. Is itunes updating things again?

    Hello Danny R,
I understand that when you open the iTunes Store, the "Just For You" option is missing from your iTunes Page. I realize this may be concerning and I will be happy to assist you today.
As a result of overwhelming demand this holiday season--demand that surpassed even Apple's expectations-- some of the Store Features are temporarily disabled. These features include the following:
    Complete My Album
    My Alerts
iTunes Plus upgrades (iTunes Plus purchases will continue to work)
    Just for You
    iMix searches
As you have noticed, these features have temporarily disappeared from the iTunes Store but all features should be back, approximately, by December 27, 2007.
I do apologize for any inconvenience this issue has caused. The iTunes Store appreciates your business and loyalty. Thank you for your understanding, Dan.
    Happy Holidays!
    Warmest Regards,
    Aileen

  • Complete my Album missing?

    Hi everyone....
So, I click on the "complete my album" link in the newest itunes (it's 11 i think? not sure) and it brings me to a page with all the albums I can complete for a reduced price. Well, when I click on those, there is no "complete my album" option and it doesn't say I own any of the songs! I don't want to pay double for the songs I already own! Does anyone know the fix for this?

The iTunes Store apparently turned off several features, including Just For You, Complete My Album, iMix Search and some other stuff I don't remember to speed things up during the Xmas rush. I believe they're supposed to be turned back on in the next couple of days.

  • IMixes - Where is the Link? How to Search or Browse them?

Is there an iMixes homepage? Or a way to search or browse iMixes? I've found references to a link to iMixes on iTunes homepage, but can't find it. The only way I know to stumble upon iMixes is to search for a song, go to the album and then iTunes creates a listing of related iMixes. But I want to search all iMixes, not just the list of ones iTunes created based on the album I'm viewing. Arghhhhh.

A link for iMix shows up on the Music Store Home Page. When you first open the iTunes store, click on the "Music" link in the top left hand box. The Music Store Home Page will open. Then look in the "More in Music" box on the left side and iMix will be listed here. If you click on it, you'll get an iMix home page and search options.

  • Ineffective Keyword Search (keyword.URL) changes in 23+

Refering to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/963439, closing this thread is not sufficient for us users. Please let us vote about this change, or most people (like me) will downgrade or use addons that will disable this "security" feature.
Please make a better solution, or chrome or another browser will do.

The search engine that is used on the location bar and on the about:home page is the search engine that is selected in the search Bar on the Navigation Toolbar.
You can install the Keyword Search extension to specify with search engine to use for the location bar and which search engine to use for the about:home page via the Options/Preferences windows of this extension, accessible via the about:addons page.
    * Keyword Search: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/keyword-search/
Another possibility is to disable keyword search (keyword.enable = false) and use a (one letter) keyword search for searching via the location bar.<br />
You can add a keyword to an installed search engine via Manage Search Engines (click the search engines icon on the search bar) and you can add a keyword to a bookmark in the Bookmarks Manager (Show All Bookmarks).
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Using_keyword_searches
That will allow to switch easily between search engines when you search via the location bar and there also is no problem with a one word search.

  • RSS feed of top/recent/featured or search in iMixes?

I know that it's possible to create RSS feeds of certain aspects of iTunes through the iTunes Music Store RSS Feed Generator, but it doesn't cover the whole store-- specifically I'm looking for iMixes... any iTunes insiders care to share some details on how that might be possible?
I was hoping that something like the following example URL would work for this, but it does not:
    http://ax.phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wpa/MRSS/iMixSea rch?sortMode=1&type=iMix&term=rocknroll&ign-mscache=1
Do I not have the right syntax? Or is it that the generator just doesn't support this function right now?
    Thanks!

Wordpress can construct a proper podcast feed, including the 'itunes:image, 'itunes:summary' and 'itunes:subtitle' tags; there will be places to enter this data but I'm afraid I can'd advise on WordPress. It does seem to have a steep learning curve as we see more problems with Wordpress podcasts than any other creation method.
Unless someone who happens to have got a WordPress podcast working happens to see your question and offer information I can only suggest that you look for a Wordpress forum or some Help on it.
Although it won't help you with Wordpress you might like to look at this page about podcasting basics: it includes a sample basic feed so that you can at least see what one should look like:

  • How can I download an iMix into a separate playlist?

Everytime I download an iMix, the songs are scattered all over my iTunes library. Other than recreating the iMix by creating a new playlist and then individually dragging each of the songs into the new playlist, is there any way that this can be done automatically?
In other words, if I buy an iMix called "Running Music", how do I get these songs to appear on iTunes (and also on the iPod) as a playlist called "Running Music".
    Thanks for helping a newbie.
Macbook Dual Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I don't know if it can be done automatically (I don't think it can be), but you can sort your library by "Date Added" and the songs you bought should all be grouped together. Then you can select them all and create a playlist...Should be easier than searching for each one. You can do the same thing on your iPod via iTunes.
    I hope this helps,

  • CS3 Bridge keyword search failure

To the best of my knowledge this particular issue has not been covered in the dozens of prior posts about keywords.  I apologize if I've missed it.
My photos, by the nature of their creation and paperwork generation, are organized by overall dividers, year, month, partial alphabetic breakdown, and customer name, respectively.  I have a need to be able to find photos across all folders throughout the hierarchy that are of the same person.  I've been using keywords of the individuals' names to accomplish this and it has been tremendously effective.
In 2009, it became necessary to move all images archived in 2008 to another location on the server.  As one might expect, the keywords didn't jive with the index (my reasoning, anyway) and search functionality was ineffective.  Not long thereafter, the functionality came back - most likely by way of a non-indexed keyword search.
The same issue has occured this year in that all the images shot in 2009 had to be moved.  I have changed the manner in which the structure is built to prevent this from being necessary again in the future, but the keyword search is now not functioning again.  However, this time I am unable to re-establish it.  I have tried multiple non-indexed (with subdirectory) keyword searches both across the entire server and in smaller folder breakdowns.  I have cleared the cache and searched again.  Even if I open a folder with brand new files and verify keyword presence and accuracy, a search inside that specific folder will not return a result.
The question is: What have I done / missed?
Even if it had nothing to do with moving the 2009 files, I may have done something to knock something askew that's impeding my search abilities.  I don't use Bridge for very complex tasks, so I might need some extra help, but I'm keenly interested in your ideas and expertise.  Assistance in any form will be appreciated.

Im geting the same... I tried refreshing cache etc... but no avail...

  • Please: HELP with iMIX. Urgent !

    Dear all
I tried to find an apple.com eMail to ask this help without be successful.
Please I hope you can help me.
Well: I did an iMix including 7 songs on the list. I followed exactly all the iTune instructions.
BUT when I published this list, it results ONLY the last song !!!!!!
It' strange because all the songs, are published on iTunes ( search "Tiziano Demaria" on iTunes Store as author, and you will find my CD Karen. Those are the songs !! )
I want to delete this iMix because with only one song it's simply a ******** !
    Please could you tell me:
    - In what manner to delete it
    - In what manner to be able to have in the iMix ALL the songs that I chosen ?
I'm really sorry if I ask to you but it's very dramatic to have not support from Apple about those issues !
Thank you very much in advance

    Issue Solved.
In the Account settings is possible to delete the iTunes' iMix.
Titles were not present due several mistakes in the titling of the CD published on iTunes itself. Solved with TuneCore.com directly
