Immediate Reaction to Upgrade

First thing to say is that I've not read many of the complaints in depth because they have been difficult to follow without seeing the new version for myself. So apologies if I say anything that's already been said here.
I was upgraded overnight and pleased to find that navigation through the menus is very snappy. I have had a good trial of the features that I use regularly - Sky Sports & ESPN, and the BBC iPlayer. No immediate problems with the TV channels, and I'm glad to see that the Sky Sports white dot is no longer significantly brighter than the rest of the dog (though it would still be better not there at all).
The iPlayer was rather more problematic in that loading of pages is too slow to keep up with navigation on the remote, even though my BB connection is an adequate 18 Mbps. This means that flicking quickly along the bottom menu can result in the wrong info being displayed, and the same applies to the channel and date menus in the CHANNELS section. Not realising this at first I ploughed on, inevitably becoming baffled by what I was seeing and thinking that the bug had got me. It was not long before the iPlayer froze completely followed by the box turning itself off. When I turned it on again it took a while to get going, but didn't appear to reboot. I had another look at the iPlayer, worked out what had happened, and found that it actually works accurately provided that each menu page is allowed to load fully before flicking to the next item. So it's an issue with loading speed rather than an actual defect (though some will regard the lag as an actual defect).
As I said, this is a quick reaction only to the features I need on BTV. I have noticed earlier reports of problems with iPlayer though, and maybe advice to navigate steadily will be helpful.
[EDIT: Even though I normally use a separate recorder (because it talks to the TV) I set up a test recording on the new BTV software. No problem with it. I've also noticed that picture quality using iPlayer is better than previously. So it's mostly positive so far. Hope I'm not tempting fate.]
You can click the white star next to this message if you think it was helpful.

Same problem here in NYC.
Phone is basically useless and I really needed it tonight, what a mess.
What I really don't understand is why Apple also made the restore process depend on the store?! It's a single point of failure, it goes down and your phone is useless.

  • Upgrade oracle 10.2.0.3 32bit to oracle 11.1.7 x64

    Hi There,
I'm trying to upgrade from oracle 10.2.0.3 to 11.1.7 and I'm wondering what's the best way of doing this.
THe problem is that production server is windows 2003 server 32 bit running oracle 10.2.0.3 standard edition.
The new server is windows 2008 server, 64bit. I have managed to install oracle 11.1.7 on it, so my question is what's teh best approach to do the DB migration? does it matter if the old DB files are in 32bit?
I couldnt find oracle 10.2.0.3 x64 on the oracle site as I was thinking of installing that on the new machine, do cold backup of DB and copy all the files to the new server, startup the DB on the new server, and then run DBUA.
I also managed to install oracle 10.2.0.4 on the new server, is it possible to dpow the foolowing:
    1. cold backup the DB on the current production server.
    2. move the backup to the new server
    3. using 10.2.0.4 executables, do startup mount
    4. rename datafiles from old location to new location
    5. shutdown immediate
    6. startup upgrade
    7. run @?/rdbms/admin/catupgrd.sql
would the above work? any concerns? or tips? or any advises please?
    Thanks

Mohammed at al, you are not correct - sorry to say that but a 32=>64-bit change will be handled implicitly by the database by invalidating packages etc.
    Your way would be:
    1) Run utlu111i.sql from your new %OH%\rdbms\admin installation on your "old" 10.2. installation (copy it over and run it from SQL*Plus 10.2)
If you have just an spfile then do a 'create pfile from spfile;' to have an editable copy of your spfile.
    2) Shutdown your 10.2. database IMMEDIATE
    3) Copy all relevant files (database files, password file, control files, redolog files and spfile/init.or) to your new server into the identical location
    - if you plan to choose a different location then you'll have to trace the controlfile before on your old server and create a new controlfile
in the new installation to reflect to the new file locations
    4) Create a new service on the new server with: oradim -NEW -SID yoursid -SYSPWD passwrd -STARTMODE a -PFILE initfile
    5) Create a new listener service on your new server with "netca"
    6) Make all suggested changes from the utlu111i.sql script output to your init.ora.
    7) Startup your database in upgrade mode 'startup upgrade'
    8) Run 'catupgrd.sql'
    9) Once it has been finished then the db will be shutdown - startup normal and run 'utltp.sql' and 'catuppst.sql' in parallel from 2 SQL*Plus sessions
    10) Check with 'utlu111s.sql' if everything has been upgraded successfully.
    Have fun :-)
    Kind regards
    Mike

  • How do I (safely) upgrade Mountain Lion to Mavericks in a triple boot setup?

When I purchased this refurbished 2011 Mac mini in late April, I wanted to set it up where I could have Mountain Lion, Snow Leopard, and Windows 7 in a triple-boot setup.  Knowing that the hybrid MBR setup limits the hard drive to three partitions, I had to get rid of the recovery partition.  Somehow I was able to make or keep both a .dmg file of the recovery partition and InstallESD.dmg and to clone these to a USB flash drive.  I eliminated the recovery partition, shrunk the Mountain Lion partition, added the Boot Camp partition, and made room for the Snow Leopard partition by further shrinking the Mountain Lion partition.  This setup has been working well for me so far.
The discussions I'm seeing about people having trouble with the Mavericks installer wanting to create a recovery partition make me nervous.  I don't have an immediate need to upgrade to Mavericks (I use Windows 7 and Snow Leopard more than Mountain Lion), but I would like my third OS to be the most up-to-date version available, especially since Mavericks is free.  I'll be making extensive backups of all three partitions on a larger external hard disk I'm putting together tomorrow, so I'll be able to restore everything if I mess something up, but I'd rather go into the process with a fair amount of confidence that it's likely to work without too much tinkering.
    Any hints?

The 2010 Mac mini came with Core 2 Duo processors; the 2011 Mac mini had options of Core i5 and Core i7 processors.  My Mac mini is booted into Windows 7 at the moment; the Computer window shows that I have an Intel Core i5-2520M processor running at 2.50 GHz.  This is the model that came with the discrete AMD graphics processor.  The 2011 Mac mini and 10.7 Lion were introduced at the same event; it is highly likely that later versions of 10.6 Snow Leopard included drivers for the new Mac mini in the event that Lion wasn't ready in time.  (The similarities of the 2011 Mac mini to MacBook Pro models released before Lion may also be a factor in Snow Leopard running successfully on the Mac mini.)
I expected to have to go through extra steps to get Snow Leopard running on my Mac mini, but as long as I installed it and updated it to the latest version by using my MacBook to access the Mac mini's hard disk in Target Disk Mode, it ran just fine.  In fact, one of the first things I did with the Mac mini was the opposite:  I booted the MacBook in Target Disk Mode to see if the Mac mini could boot from the 10.6.8 installation on my MacBook's hard disk, and it worked fine.  I'm sure there are people who have had difficulties installing Snow Leopard on a 2011 Mac mini (with or without a separate Mac that officially supports Snow Leopard), but I guess I lucked out.
The main PowerPC application that I like to run every now and then is Spaceward Ho!, a strategy game that harkens back to the days of the classic Mac OS (I've been using Macs for twenty years, back to the days of the 68040 processor).  The developer of Spaceward Ho! for the iPad has tweeted that it may release an updated version for Intel Macs, but I don't know that it will maintain the "feel" of the classic version.
I recently decided to try the iDVD '06 that came with my MacBook on my Mac mini, and while it's not a PowerPC application, it won't run on Mavericks, so I have to keep Snow Leopard for that purpose.  Mainly it's just been a matter of preference:  Snow Leopard just feels more nimble than the more recent releases, and it gives me better control over when I save my files (or copies of them).
Also a matter of preference:  if I'm running a Windows application, I want to be in Windows.  If I'm running a Mac application, I want to be in OS X.  I also want all of my resources devoted to the OS I'm running at the current time, not divided between both.  I may try virtualization again somewhere down the line, but right now I'm happy enough with Boot Camp.

  • Windows 10 upgrade information

Toshiba has created a page with information about the upgrade process for Windows 10:
    Toshiba Windows 10 Upgrade Information
You can find a list of supported models here:
Toshiba models supported for upgrade to Windows 10
Step-by-step upgrade instructions can be found here:
How to upgrade your TOSHIBA Windows® PC or Tablet to Windows 10
There's a lot of other useful information at the top link as well.
If your model isn't supported for upgrade to Windows 10, you might still be able to perform the upgrade. Regardless of your model being listed, I'll be happy to try my best to help with questions and troubleshooting.
Please remember to make recovery media before upgrading. It's always a good idea even if you don't think you'll need it.
Lastly, if you have a problem or question about your upgrade, please create a new thread and include your model and part numbers. Don't reply here if it's an issue with your upgrade.

Well, as you said in the Upgrade post, that doesn't mean that you can;t upgrade.  My Windows 10 current installation Build 10240 is running fine on my L775D which is "not supported".  I was hoping maybe to tweak a couple of drivers if they became available for Win 10 but I'm really doing okay without them.  As far as the C75D is concerned, I had no immediate plans to upgrade to Win 10 anyway.

  • How do I stop the popup "identityservicesd wants to use your confidential information stored in " key " in your keychain"?   Always allow doesn't work.

    I repeatedly see the popup:
"identityservicesd wants to use your confidential information stored in "<key>" in your keychain"
If I click "always allow" it still comes up.
I've followed instructions elsewhere on this forum to open Keychain Access and use First Aid, but to no avail.
Previously I would receive the popup "messages app wants to use your confidential information..." but I changed the Access Control to allow all applications to access this item, hoping that would do the trick.  But sadly it didn't work.
    Any ideas?
(Also, ever since upgrading to Mavericks, it wants to go through first-time setup every time I log in.  I'm prompted to enter my iCloud password, etc. etc. but the above problem predates that)

My immediate reaction is to deny.
Have you downloaded or installed any application that may relate to the abbreviation AOS? It may not necessarily be the application's name, could be the developer or distributor.
As it's occuring at log-in, go to System Preferences > Accounts > your account > Login Items and look for a related item. If there's one there, right-click (or ctrl click) on it and select Reveal in Finder. That will show you where the originator of the item is on your system and should give you more of a clue as to what it is.
I'd remove the item from login items anyway (highlight and click the minus sign at the bottom of the window). There shouldn't be anything trying to use your keychain info to notify anyone.

  • How do I add a new playlist to my ipod using iTunes 11?

I recently was prompted to upgrad to iTunes 11, and while my immediate reaction is to hate it, I know I am just not used to it. My problem is that I cannot for the life of me figure out how to add a new playlist onto my ipod. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Sorry, for the late response..
When I click on the iPod, it would open a page where my only option was to "sync everything". And "Playlist" wasn't an option along the tabs at the top.
But I was able to open the sidebar, like the previous version of itunes and now am able to just drag and drop.
Thank you! I am much less frustrated now

  • Broken wb and magenta tint shift on all my 30D images

Hi everybody...I know that there is another post regarding images going green...I read it all and tried to follow some of the listed suggestions but no success at all...I'm really in the middle of nowhere, don't know what to do to escape from this nightmare!.
All my Canon 30D images in Aperture 3 shows completely broken wb and magenta tint!...
I did not experience any of the problems during upgrading and import my previous library from Aperture 2...It was months ago...I decide to reprocess all my images because my intention was to start working and adjusting my photo after a period when I just "accumulated" them in projects and nothing else.
it wasn't like this a month ago, honestly I can't remember at which point all this happened...one month ago I did some jpeg export from a project and the images were ok, I mean the masters and the exported jpeg. I returned to Aperture to start performing some adjustments on few images here and there in different projects...and, horrible surprise, just reviewing some images recently imported I noticed the difference between the photo in the filmstrip and the one in the viewer...
I just run randomly on different projects and....disaster....the same broken wb and magenta tint..all of my 30D images, 350D shows correctly.
It shows "loading" for a second and then the image is turning with a heavy magenta cast on it...if I am in split view the image in the filmstrip shows correct wb while the one in the viewer is affected by the magenta tint.
If I press once M to show the master image I see this: for a second the image shows the correct wb then appears the magenta tint. I press M to quit the master view and the image is the same with magenta...and then again press M and there is no longer the brief "flash" showing the image with the right wb and no magenta tint.
I tried some of the solutions listed in other threads i.e. moving/deleting the Raw Decode plist file....repair and rebuild....nothing seems to work...I can't explain how I feel...I spent a lot of time to organize folders, projects albums, and now that finally I decided to start working on my photos I found them all broken.
This is happening on my iMac 20" alu with snow leopard 10.6.3 and the latest Aperture update 3.0.3...but also on my macbookpro 13" with the same os version and Aperture 3.0.2.
I don't know what to do...I love Aperture, i run it for long time on my Powerbook G4 (Aperture 2.1.4) and honestly I don't even want to think about switching to another software.
Anyone's help or suggestion are welcome. I want to fix this, I have to!.
    Bye,
    Alberto

    Hello KBeat,
first of all a huge and sincere "Thank you!" for your considerations and suggestions!.
Like I said in my previous post I found that some images shot with 30D now looks better...my first "samples" on the 30D images (I have around 3,500) shows that images not ever adjusted looks better, some images with adjustments done in Aperture 2 still looks good, others aren't...
BUT...some of the bad looking images that shows the magenta shift (light or heavy to purple) also have the white balance adjustment brick selected...I just deselect it and, bam!, the images turn back to the right white balance settings....well, maybe it's still not correct but at least was the "original" one, I mean that is the image wb setting since first import two years ago.
For this group of images, small at the moment, the additional "work" requested is to deselect the white balance adjustment brick to obtain the "old" image, ready to be processed with the new raw decoder, leading to a better result.....I really hope to find more and more of those images between those affected because it involves to deselect the brick and that's done.
Since now I have to say that the most affected are portraits/models images where skin tones now are rendered in a way that looks ipersaturated and completely unrealistic, thanks to the magenta shift.
Well, I can't say I'm happy with this, at least not "for free"! I mean I'll probably be happy right after some works on the images...my library at the moment is "compromised".
It needs work, and a lot of it, and this is not good, well the immediate reaction facing this new "challenge" it's far from being something "good". I'm happy to have a small library and so the extra work forced by the "corrected" 30D files handling looks, well, limited...I want to be positive, after a very very...VERY discouraging start!
Now, to the white bal card suggestion you gave...
Correct me if I'm wrong or did not understand what you wrote...you think that if now I shot a white bal card with 30D, import it in Aperture and use it for the magenta shifted images the big work is done? This, lift&stamp to the rescue, could be a huge timesaver!
Am I dreaming? Am I now into a too positive mood with this problem? Eh, eh...hope not!
I have an image shot to a white bal card but it was taken with the 350D because of it's inability to set a temperature in-camera, in a recent shooting involving studio flash and lights I set 3200K on the 30D with the proper menu setting and shot the white bal card with the 350D to have the most consistent result....but with 350D results were good even if I set a white balance choosed from the various in-camera options (cloudy, tungsten....).
Unfortunately I'll be abroad for work all next week, it will be impossible for me to work with my photos and playing with Aperture, today shops are closed so no white balance card...and I have lot of things to do at home, argh!.
Well, thank again for the kind suggestions and support, I really really thank you all!.
Of course I'll post immediately if I found something else on this matter, and to report progresses or else!.
    Bye!
    Alberto

    Will appreciate any suggestions.

  • Showstopper bug in latest UEKR3 kernel - can't create LVM snapshot of ext4 fs

cross-posted to gain a wider audience, because this is urgent
When my backup system attempts to create an LVM snapshot of an ext4 fs, it fails, and the log is full of kernel warnings.  Some of my servers actually reboot themselves.  i've had to turn off backups for the moment.
It seems that this is a known problem, and a patch for it already exists.  See: Re: warning in ext4_journal_start_sb on filesystem freeze (Linux Ext4)
I gave this info to a receptionist at Oracle on 12/30, and she seemed to understand that it needed to get to the Oracle Linux product group, but so far no one has contacted me for details, or to let me know that they're working on this.
It seems to me that this is a 100% critical bug, that *ought* to have gotten an immediate reaction.  Does anyone here know how to get Oracle's attention?

    Hi @cooldog ,
I hit this same LVM2 snapshot kernel oops on several Oracle Linux 6.5 servers running UEK R3 kernel version 3.8.13-16.3.1.  I have Linux Premier Support so I opened a Service Request.  Oracle Support got back to me with the following notes.
    Hello Matt,

  • This defies absolutely any of my comprehension.

Oh yes, seen plenty of things like that and worse.I was being interviewed for a job; and the recruiter decided to take me on a tour of the IT office and their "server room". My immediate reaction was OMFGYHGTBKM!!!The "server room" was a room with two doors; no air conditioning, so they left boththe doors open to cool things down. The rack had a couple of patch panels with some shitty old generic switches that looked as if they were installed when Methuselah was a lad.The patch leads poured out the front of the rack in a multi coloured waterfall of PVC.The "Servers" were mostly tower devices, a couple of them were probably desktop PC pressed into service as servers. These were stacked on their sides on a table in the middle of the room; 2 of them didn't have their side panels on (no explanation why). A few more were under the table,...

I'm working on a system for a client's SMB wants to upgrade win XP to 8. I take the system so I'm not in their way while wait for install. I go to try to download nothing check the I.P address.

    2. The network uses a 192.168.x.x/24 address the gateway is 10.10.X.X (I have to assume is some default value that the prior person just left when setup the SonicWALL router.) I have no clue how the heck this can even possibly work.
That and blank passwords for local admin account are you kidding me. I've seen some dumb things done by "contractors" but this is pathetic.

  • Windows 7 Instalation Problem - Error Code 0xC0000005

I have been trying to install Windows 7 on my, rather old, laptop and it barely gets to the installation screen after inserting the CD into the CD drive when the message appears:
Windows installation encountered an unexpected error. Verify that the installation sources are accessible and restart installation. Error code: 0xC0000005
I don't know why this message keeps appearing...
I ran the windows 7 upgrade advisor and it then said that my current graphics adapter will not support Windows Aero user interface and also to upgrade the drivers for my wireless and my ethernet - is it because of this that I cannot install windows 7? And if so, I was also not able to figure out how to find the updates for these...
    - Intel(R) PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter
    - 3Com 3C920 Integrated Fast Ethernet Controllet
    - Windows Aero support.
Any help or insight would be extremely welcome.
    Thanks.

  • When I login I get a message "aosnotifyd wants to use your confidential information stored in "my name" in your keychain." How do I know if it is safe to allow this? Can anyone advise please?

Every time I login I get the message "aosnotifyd wants to use your confidential information stored in "my name" in your keychain." How do I know if it is safe to allow this? Can anyone advise please?

  • Is it possible to backup my iPhone without getting into the phone?

I have a white iPhone 5c 16GB. It's my second time owning one, and the current one I have is from Asurion insurance company. I have heard those have been refurbished, so when I received my current phone I felt like it had already been old. iPhones don't have long life spans, for one. I would drop it a couple times and the edge of the screen would pop out but i would just push it back in using some force. Another problem it had is that it would die even when it had about 30% of battery left. Earlier today, it did the same. Trying to get my charger, the phone accidentally fell off of the bed while it was dead. As usual i check for cracks or the screen popping out and that didn't happen. I charged it and when i tried going on my phone I was only able to use half of the screen. The other half was covered in those lines that appear when the screen is damaged. My immediate reaction was to plug it into my laptop to backup the phone before more damage happened to the phone but I had procrastinated on updating itunes. It took about two hours for iTunes to completely download. Meanwhile the screen had just completely failed on me showing only the colorful lines, but i was still receiving calls and the phone could still vibrate, i just couldn't see or check anything at all. Once i was going to back it up, itunes said my phone was in recovery mode and that i had to restore my phone. I have precious photos that i want to keep when i get a new phone. Is it possible to backup the phone without using itunes and just using icloud? its saying my phone is connected yet im unable to see any proof of that other than the sound my laptop makes when i plug it back in. Also, if that doesn't work or is not possible, will i be able to just stick my sim card into a new phone and will i be able to keep my data?

That's what I figured. When i go on icloud it shows the bar of the storage, and since i havent purchased extra, i only have the free 5gb. in icloud the bar shows the amount ive used and it says "backup" on the bar. It's not a link it's just a label. Does that mean it's backed up automatically on icloud?
