Immediately shuts down

Hi
My MacBook Pro started lately to cause problems: initially it would put in the log that there are disk i/o errors. When I discovered this I shut down the computer until I could get a Mac OS X install DVD to boot from the DVD drive. Today I finally received a Mac OS X 10.5 install DVD, but when I started my computer things deteryorated even more: the computer starts but after 40 seconds (checked with a stop watch) it shuts down. I reset the SMC and PRAM, but both actions didn't help. What other options do I have to try to successfully boot?
TIA
Paolo

I'm afraid that unit will need to be serviced.

If you have your MBP charger, try a SMC reset:

I'm able to access FB when on another computer or my guest acct. How do I get into my FB acct on Safari again? Each time I type in "facebook", it will not load.

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
Click Details then type facebook in the search field then remove all facebook related items.
Now empty the Safari cache. Press Command + Option + E on your keyboard.
Quit and relaunch Safari. Try accessing your Facebook page.
If that didn't help, click History from the Safari menu bar then click Clear History.
Quit and relaunch Safari and try Facebook again.

Resetting User Password in Lion, Mountain Lion & Mavericks
Boot into your Recovery Partition by hold down the Command and R keys whilst booting.
When the Recovery screen appears, go to the Utilities menu and open Terminal.
    In Terminal, type:
    resetpassword
...a small app will open and allow you to choose the user for whom you want to change the password. If you are the admin, be certain that you choose your admin user. Type in your new password twice and give yourself a good hint. Click OK (or Done or whatever) and reboot, enjoying the use of your new, hopefully memorable, password.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Is this happening on MagSafe/mains power or Battery ?
If battery then it sounds like it's died, check System Profiler / Power to see what's showing for it.

  • My computer turns on but then immediately shuts down.

It seems my computer turned itself off in the middle of the night. This morning, when I tried turning it on, it wouldn't leave the white initial screen with the apple logo and the waiting sign so I manually shut it down. I waited a couple of minutes before doing so. Then I turned it back on again and the same thing happened. The third time I turned it on, the white screen appeared and then it shut down on its own! Next time I did the same thing and it took less time before shutting down on its own.
My computer is connected to the energy source. It's not connected directly to the wall, there is a no-break with a very weak battery and that's connected to the power source.
My concern is that there was very little memory left on my computer and I was downloading more movies.
It the problem coming from my computer or is it the energy source?

Try connecting the plug directly to an outlet. That should determine whether it is the energy source or not.
If the same, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • IChat opens and immediately shuts down

In the past two weeks my iChat has stopped working. I will try to open it and I will sign on for a second or two and the program will shut down immediately afterwards. I recently purchased an iSight, but that worked for 2-3 weeks before iChat stopped working. I have not downloaded anything or changed anything to affect this problem. I have also tried reading previous posts to see if anything can help. I tried restarting my computer on safe mode and restarting it back up but iChat still does not work. If someone could please help me that would be very helpful. I am using Tiger and I have the newest version of iChat and I have run all the software updates that my computer can find on the Internet. Someone please help me!

  • Adobe Creative Suite Design CS6 - PhotoShop, InDesign and Illustrator immediately shuts down after startup

I'm troubleshooting for a customer who have Adobe Creative Suite Design CS6.
His programs suddenly wont start, they launches and starts to read plug-ins and open up a workspace, but then without warning/error it shuts down. no log, error message or anything...
It's the same for PhotoShop, InDesign and Illustrator both in 32 bit and 64.
He is running the suit on a Hp EliteBook 8560p with Windows 7 Pro x64 sp1.
He also have had a Wacom Bamboo CTE 650 penpad installed before.
This is what I've done so far:
    * Uninstall the whole suit and reinstalled it again (Done this 3-4 times, manually deleted regestry-files, used CClean and other cleaning tools)
    * Deleted the wacom-drivers with controlpanel tool, Windows driver Clean tool, CClean and manually deleted registry-keys and files.
    * Uninstall Anti-Virus software and replaced it with another, inactivated AV and Windows Firewall.
    * Deleted register-files for the suits and "reregister" them again.
    * Full patch both for windows and adobe softwares.
    * Reboot between each step
    Any suggestions?
I have to add that adobe support for this $2000 software really sucks...
    Thanks!
    // Rikard

    Problem solved!
I went through all the folders associated with adobe cs6 and renamed them (one by one) so they would be recreated.
I did this before but seems like I missed this specific one.
Anyway, when I renamed the folder "SLCache" in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\ and then ran the applications one by one as administrator I was prompted to enter a serial-key again and log in to my Adobe-ID.

  • My MacBook Pro Immediately Shuts Down When I Unplug It.

Whenever I unplug my MacBook Pro from its power source, it shuts down. No warning or anything. It just shuts down. Is this something that requires a big fix-it type of thing?

    Hi Nozebra,
Check your battery. When your computer is plugged in, click on the blue apple, and then About this Mac. When you see the box, check More Info... This brings up Apple Profiler. Click on Power (on the left). This will tell you how much battery power you have.
This happened to me, and it turned out that my battery (which was not under the recall program) would no longer hold a charge. I called AppleCare, and they sent me out a new battery, which I received 24 hours later.
