  • Connecting WiFi Only iPad Through A Hotspot On Your 4G Phone?

Has anyone tried using a hotspot app on their 4G phone to connect their WiFi only iPad to the internet? If so, what were your experiences? What app did you use on your phone?
    Thanks!

A wifi-only iPad doesn't have a sim-card slot, only the cellular models do. If they are available in your country then you could get a mifi device and use the sim-card in that and use that as a mobile hotspot for your iPad

  • Can wiFi only iPad be tethered to to iPhone for 3G data transmission

Can WiFi only iPad be tethered to to iPhone for 3G data transmission. I already have an iPhone with data plan and don't want or need a second data plan. Can I connect the WiFi only iPad to iPhone with USB (iPhone) cable for 3G transmission. Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    pharmercist,
Since you're in canada you might be on Rogers or another carrier that does support tethering. Check with your carrier of course before turning it on - data can be costly.
The iPhone is designed to tether via Bluetooth PAN or USB dock connector. See http://www.apple.com/iphone/iphone-3gs/tethering.html
The iPad explicitly does not support tethering on Bluetooth. See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3647 I've never heard of a 30 pin to 30 pin connector or any mention of the internet coming in from a 30 pin connector on any device so I doubt USB tethering could work on the iPad or any device in the family.
Your only bet would be to make or find an app that would proxy the data from 3G/EDGE and serve it up WiFi style. It wouldn't be built into the phone as a background service like proper tethering is and learning to code and join the developer program so you can install your own apps is a lot of work and expense. I don't know if the bluetooth issue is a software decision or built in limitation to the hardware - either way - it looks like iPad WiFi isn't going to tether easily.

I have an iPhone with an unlimited data plan. Is there a way to go online with a wifi only iPad using my phone for access?

If your iPhone cell carrier allows you to use Tethering, you can turn your iPhone into a wifi hotspot, then your iPad Air can connect to that for internet access.  Not all cell carriers allow tethering without you signing up for additional fees/services.  For example, AT&T in the US still has grandfathered "unlimited" data plans, but they do not allow tethering for those plans.  With AT&T you need to switch to a Mobile Share plan (or a tiered plan if still available) to use tethering (legally).

  • Will my phone carrier be charged for streaming video on a wifi only ipad?

Will my phone carrier be charged for streaming video on a wifi only ipad?

If you are using your phone as a hotspot for you to connect your iPad to for streaming then YOU will be charged for data... not your carrier.

  • GPS on wifi only ipad

what are my options when using a wifi only ipad mini to download maps requiring gps??

    A mini-education:
GPS signals are separate from and completely unrelated to both the Internet and the cellular telephone network.  GPS signals come directly from the GPS satellites.  They provide signals that allow GPS receivers to calculate latitude and longitude information.  Map software then takes that latitude/longitude info and converts it to land mass, roads, bridges, highways, buildings, etc.  Navigation software is "map software on steroids."  It goes one step further in that it provides real-time directions to enable you to reach a desired destination.
Most navigation software stores the maps right in the iPad/iPod/iPhone but a disadvantage is that the maps must be periodically updated (perhaps once/year).  The Internet is not required to use the system but it is required to update the maps.
Some navigation software gets the maps from the Internet and requires an Internet connection to function but an advantage is that the maps are always up-to-date.
The WiFi+3G/4G iPad and the iPhone both have a GPS receiver.  The WiFi-only iPad and the iPod do not and these devices require an accessory.
WARNING:  Some users have reported problems with IOS8.3 and the external GPS devices.

  • Can I tether my iphone to a wifi only iPad Air?

I can tehter my iPhone to my original iPad which was both wifi and 3G. I am thinking of buying an iPad Air. Could I tether my iPhone to a wifi only iPad Air? Or do I need to buy one with 3/4G capability?

If by tether you mean use your iPad's Wifi only internet connection on your Phone then no.
If by tether you mean use your Phone's cellular internet connection on your Wifi only iPad then yes.
The iPad does not need to be Cellular. If it is a cellular model it can share out its own internet connection, and would be redundant to connect to the phone to get an internet connection if it can already do so on its own through its own cellular connection.
If you want to allow your Wifi only iPad to use your Phone's cellular internet connection  then yes it can be done on a Wifi only iPad.
Basically a cellular iDevice can share its cellular internet connection out to any Wifi device. A Wifi only device cannot share its internet connection.

  • Apple website says WiFi only iPad will geotag, but they also say only the 4G version has a GPS. How can it geotag without GPS?

How can I add a new iPad?
My 90 year old Mother is getting an iPad, but she is not able to sync it. I would like to handle the syncing chores for her, on my computer. Tried this with my brother's iPad, and iTunes rejected it, saying only one device could be synced with iTunes. I can do it with my iPhone, why not with a second iPad?

are you asking how to add an ipad ???? or are you asking how wifi only ipads geotag??
how does a wifi only device geotag by rigor
wifi only devices scan your surroundings for the Mac addresses and ssids of your surrounding wifi networks, and most likely the power levels of those networks. they send this information to several different places, either google, apple or skyhook. i think its called skyhook, from what i recall from this question before. well anyway. once you send the list of wifi networks to them, you will get back what is most likely your gps coordinates. its not as exact as gps, though.
this technology is also used by other devices that have actual gps chips in them, like the iphone, as a way to speed up gps locates. gps you need to understand can take a few minutes to 14 minutes to actually receive the radio signals from the satellites, so surrounding wifi networks and cell phone towers and sometimes constallation maps are used to speed up the process of obtaining your location
this is what google does with all those vans you see driving around. they scan the networks and their gps corridinates for your ipad wifi. apple collects them from our iphones, because it is cheaper. this was widely reported as a bug, and the media was saying that apple was tracking your wearabouts, but it was just a bug.
this is also how a mac computer (mini, mac book air, mac book pro) can be located on icloud. it does not have a gps receiver either

  • Can not connect to WiFI with IPAD.  Any tips?

Any tips on how to connect to WiFi.  The IPAD does not find WiFI.  I know that is working as I currently have 3 other devices using currently.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at
    http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • HT201365 What do I do if my wifi only iPad mini is offline? Is there any way that I can locate it while being offline or turn it online remotely or possibly use the built in GPS?.

What do I do if my wifi only iPad mini is offline? Is there any way that I can locate it while being offline or turn it online remotely or possibly use the built in GPS?.

Answer would be no unless application provided such feature. Numbers does not as far as I know.
Note that even if you have complete list of formulae used in a table, identifying formulae referencing any given cell is not simple.
E.g., cell T20 is referenced not only in
    =T20+1
    but also in
    =SUM(T)
    =SUM(20:20)
    =SUM(S19:U22)
    =OFFSET(S1,19,1,1,1)
    =INDIRECT("T"&(10*2))
In order to identify such formula, we have to actually evaluate it to see if it references the given cell. Especially such formula as OFFSET() and INDIRECT() may not be found by static parser because their parameters can be dynamic.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings.
