IMove HD improt to iMove v7 (iLife 8)

I have found I can not import my iM HD project into iM V7. There is a menu choice for this but the file is blank when imported. Anyone have an idea about this?
I can still load the project into iM HD.
Thanks

I haven't figured this out 100% myself yet. First, it seems it imports only what is on the timeline. So if you have extra clips in the clip viewer, they will not come along.
But even then, I have one iMovie '06 project that comes up empty when imported into '08. Another one imports just fine.
The workaround is to copy the contents of the iMovie project (Show Package Contents in Finder) into a normal folder, and then just import the clips as individual movies.

Does anyone know positively if I can use iMovie from iLife 06 on a G4 Power PC?

iMovie 6 will run on all Macs with a G4 CPU and have a graphics card which supports Quartz Extreme. Certain features require that the computer's clock speed be 1GHz or above.

  • Can't use iMovie 7 (iLife '08)

    Hi there
I have just upgraded my iLife suite from iLife '06 (original with my Mac Mini) to iLife '08. All is well except with iMovie I get the following message 'You can't use this version of the application iMoviewith this version of Mac OS X. You have iMovie 7,0'  I still have iMovie HD (6.0.3) installed (albeit in a folder called iMovie previous version) which still works. My OS version is 10.6.8.
Any ideas? All help is greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

    Hi there
I had already done one update but not to 7.1.4. All working great now. It's cool that you can retain iMovie HD and use iMovie 7 independantly.
    Many thanks for the help

even though imovie supports leopard i will still think that for the time being sticks with tiger for all your editing needs as there are some issues which might be questionable. leopard are now having quite a big issues on compatibility level. i myself got nearly 90% softwares not compatible to leopard that results me switching back to use tiger instead. i will wait till at least next year to starts install leopard becoz by then most of the issues should have solved.

  • IMovie from iLife 08' doesn't work w/SL

I can not use iLife '08 with Snow Leopard 10.06.2. When I first tried after installing Snow Leopard I got the error code saying that I could not run the iMovie with OSX because I have version 7.0 of iMovie. I have re-installed the iLife disc and still the same. What can I do next?

Run software update and upgrade to 7.1.4

  • IMovie in iLife 11 references sharing to iDVD but . . it is not on the new disk? So, where is one to get iDVD now?

In the new iMovie share option - it allows you to share with iDVD.  That is great but . . iDVD is not on the new computers. So where can I get the iDVD software that functions on the new macs.

iDVD is not on the new computers.
If you are still within your 15 day return period,  nicely explain that you may return the computer without iDVD. That usually does the trick.  You MUST speak to a senior advisor to get a free copy. The first tier people cannot do it.
Call Apple they will sent out iDVD at no charge.  (There are no realistic substitutes for iDVD.)

    800-692-7753
If that doesn't work (it does for most) you can purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $39.

  • Attempting to reinstall iMovie HD/iLife 05

My machine came with iLife 04 installed and an iLife 05 disk was included. I used iLife 05 until we bought my wife an iBook, which came with iLife 06 installed. I thought I might as well use the install disk on my iMac to get iLife 06 installed on it. It hasn't worked as well as 05 did and some features aren't available on 10.3.9. So, intending to reinstall iLife 05 from the disk, I dragged iMovie 06 to the trash can (along with iDVD 06). After iMovie didn't reinstall, I went into Customize and saw that iMovie HD was unchecked, grayed out, and it showed "disabled" to the right. I fear I made a big mistake in deleting iMovie 06 (and emptying the trash). Can you help?

    Hello Graig,
    try the following:
open a Finder window and type "iMovie" in the search tab. your mac should find a couple of leftovers, e.g. com.apple.iMovie.plist and iMovie.pkg - these are preferences and receipts. there will probably be other stuff from application support.
try trashing them as well, repair permissions with Disc Utility and reboot, then see if you can reinstall iMovie 5 (the same should work for iDVD).
    hope this helps

  • IMovie 06 vs. iMovie 08 / iLife 06 vs. iLife 08

    Hi,
So, I have a to install an iLife group of products to edit some movies. My older movies were done with iMovie HD.
What are the experiences out there? Should I install iLife 06? Or should I install iMovie 06 and the other iLife 08 apps? Would they work together?
Just curious about other peoples experiences...
    Cheers, JP

I do not know which operating system you are currently on as you do not say in your post. I myself am running Tiger 10.4.11. I have installed Ilife 8 but I have also kept the previous version of ilife this is so that I get the best of both worlds.
imove 8 looks on the surface to be a great app with a glossy eye candy interface. But for the type of editing I need to do I need imove HD which is from the previous set of iLife apps.
GarageBand 8 whilst having some improved features does not allow me to export from it into Logic 7 due to it being built for Logic 8. So I keep both Garage Band 3 & 8 on the system so I can make the most of both apps.
I have made the leap across to the latest version of iDVD due to its enhanced quality when it comes to creating the DVDs and it has a more improved Muxing ability.
right now as things are if you want perfect bed fellow use Imove HD and the new iDVD and you get the best of both worlds. Great editing and great DVD authoring.
for bigger more in-depth projects I use my Final cut pro 5.
Itunes and I photo I have upgraded for their functionality.
and that's about the strength of it.

  • IMovie 09 iLife 09

Hello out there, I know that I asked this before but I wondered how people are enjoying this new program 09". I am presently using iMovie etc. version 6 and I am very happy with it. I am quite interested in the newest but want to hear some feedback before I consider purchasing it. Most of what I do is simple picture videos, created in "photo to movie" & iMovie then shared to iDVD. I want to know that I can keep most of the feature that are on 06" version and then have some new features???
    Thank you in advance!

iDVD 7.0.3 (from iLife 9 - yes, delightfully confusing) has a few improvements on iDVD 6, like a few new themes and more choice of rendering quality, but by itself not worth the extra money for iLife 9. There are no 'new features'.
iMovie 8 (from etc) is so different to iMovie 6 that it would probably baffle you, like it did me. IMO completely non-intuitive (it has no timeline for a start), and I simply don't use it - also because I can't, as it does not accept a DV signal via an analogue to digital converter.
I also use Photo to Movie, which continues to improve. Stick with your Photo-to-Movie ~ iMovie 6 ~ iDVD 6 combo. But that is just my personal opinion.

  • Will iMovie and iLife 08 work.....

    On a eMac 1.25 PowerPC G4 well?

Will ilife 06 work much better on this machine than ilife 08?
I think the answer to this depends on how you view 'working much better', in most cases upgrades usually introduce new features which mean that applications will generally (but not always) run a little slower. It really depends on how much slower and what those new features are, as to whether an upgrade is the right thing for you.
I have quite a high end mac and didn't notice any performance hit with the new ilife apps (but that might not be the same for everyone), I found the additional features in the two applications (other than imovie) that I am interested in quite significant and well worth getting.
If you haven't already, take a look here to see what you can expect from ilife 08.
By the way, it doesn't matter if you have trashed ilife 06, if you get ilife 08 you can download im6 from the  website.

  • IMovie using iLife 6 vs iLife 9

    Hello
Background: In July of 2005, I purchased my PowerPC G5 20" iMac, 2.0GHz, +260 GB harddrive and 2 GB of DDR SDRAM.
I have been running OS 10.4.11, however I recently purchased a new version of Leopard OS 10.5.6. Before I use this to upgrade I would like to back up my personal and system files.
So far I have backed up:
    - Documents, Movies, Music (iTunes folder)and Pictures folders.
    - I have backed up my Safari Favourites: (file > export)
Is there anything else I can backup, because I am looking forward to having Leopard 10.5.6 do this once I have upgraded.
    Question?:
I have iLife 6 presently install, which has been great my iMovies, however can I still use it when upgrading to OS 10.5.6?
I do have a copy of iLife 09, and look forward to your recommendations on whether I should upgrade when I go to OS 10.5.6?
    Many thanks to your advice!

    I have iMovie 06, iMovie 09, and iMovie 11.
I probably do about 70% of my work with iMovie 06. I would strongly recommend that you do not delete iMovie 06. People who do not have iMovie 06 often go to great efforts to obtain it (it sells for over $100).
I would make multiple backups of iMovie 06 and then go ahead and install iLife 09. All versions of iLife that came after iLife 06 are specifically written NOT to delete iMovie 06.  But keep your backups just in case.

  • IMovie with iLife 08

When working with transitions on a project I cannot get the transition thumbnail to view them individually and drag and drop into the project. I was on the phone with customer service for about 3 hours today and the issue is still not resolved. When I open transitions all I get is a gray screen with the words of the transition -- not the colored thumbnail.

    Hi
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Delete iMovie pref file - or rather start a new user/account - log into this and re-try
    • Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK (not relevant for iMovie’08)
    • Program miss-match: iMovie 5.0.2, up to Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK
    • Program miss-match: iMovie 6.0.3 or 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match: iMovie’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Screen must be set to Million-colors
    iMovie pref file resides:
Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named: com.apple.iMovie.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iMovie.
From LKN 1935: (in this case = iMovie HD (5), I tried it all, but nothing worked.
Your answer (above) has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that
there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled
iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos)
to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before.
    Yours Bengt W

  • IMovie '09 / iLife '09 Requires OS X 10.5

Dayum! Didn't realise this, that's just doubled the price and hassle for me as I'm still on Tiger. Just thought I'd mention this in case there are any other users still on Tiger eyeing up iLife '09.

Yes, that is a concern for me because I have been very happy with Tiger 10.4.11 and QuickTime 7.5. The new iLife 9 also requires QuickTime 7.5.5, as does the newer iTunes.
I have a Leopard disk, and I plan to try it out on another drive to see if I really want to change to a new system when everything is working so well as is. I will also wait to see the reviews here from those who always go for the latest versions before I make any decisions.
