IMovi Video format support only up to 1280 x 7xx

Hallo,
I just cut my first video. I like that programm it is really great.
Input database is from Canon 5D M-II in full HD qualitiy it means 1920 x 1080pix.
So if I get ready the iMovi project for iDVD software I can only choose for best quality 1280 x 7xx(whatever)pix.
Is the full HD mode not supported by iMovi or iDVD and if so can I expect in shortly time a update from Apple ?
Thanks for help
bernhard

First off....nice camera! secondly, you can export HD, but not with the presets. Becareful with mark ii imports. It crashes imovie. see this to deal with it
http://theeoscars.com/cuttingroom/2009/03/imovie-09-and-the-canon-5d-mkii-part-1 -1080p-yes-we-can/
You will need to export movie Quicktime.

  • Importing to iMovie and video formats supported

I'm new to iMovie, and I'm still running '08, and I don't know what video formats are supported. I ripped a home video DVD using HandBrake and found out that iMovie 08 doesn't support .m4v. I tried saving it as a Quicktime Movie file with Quicktime Pro, but iMovie still wouldn't import. Can anyone tell what I can do because I really want to edit my video and burn it on more discs for the rest of my family. So, any help on what formats are supported and what I can do to import my video to iMovie is what I would like help with, please. Thanks for any help.

Check out the iMovie 08 discussion group. You will find a lot of knowledgeable people there.
iMovie will import h.264 (m4v), but it will not import extra tracks such as closed caption tracks, tween tracks, chapter tracks, etc. Make sure handbrake is including these.
You can go into QuickTime Pro and remove extra tracks.
Sometimes, people have reported that simply renaming your m4v file as an .mov file will make it importable. Not sure if this will work in your case.

  • IMovie video import: It only finds videos in iPhoto?!

Based on Jobs' roll-out presentation, I expected iMovie 08 to find "all" my video files, as he stated it would. In fact, it only found and displayed my low resolution still camera videos that had been imported into iPhoto. (Does anyone actually use iPhoto for video files from DV or HD cameras?)
Granted, this is a really cool way to collect and view all those iPhoto videos that I've never really looked at before, but what I want to edit with iMovie is my DV video that is dispersed on a few drives and in many folders. I expected iMovie to search for and provide access to all of those files too.
Apparently the only way to access my DV video files is to either copy or move them. Neither is practical. Copying all that video would be a huge waste of disc space. Moving them would destroy all my existing FCP and iMovie HD projects.
Why can't iMovie find all my existing videos wherever they are and in whatever format? Then I could view their content and import (and thus copy) only the individual clips I want to use in an iMovie project. That would only duplicate the video files that are actually being used.
iMovie 08 has great potential for a consumer video editing tool, and it will obviously grow in features and capability over time. However, the release version is quite obviously a work in progress. Once again it is clear that Apple considers its software users to be beta testers...and they let us pay for the privilege.

+I can't import any video into iMovie. It imported 2 videos from iPhoto and that was all. I have about 30 videos in iPhoto. I've tried it all.+
Search trough this forum a bit. Some people have reported problems with certain characters in file names. It also only imports certain video formats. Some still cameras produce video clips in "unusual" formats that require conversion before iMovie '08 accepts it.

  • Video formats supported by iPad

I cannot seem to sync .MOV video format files from my MacBook Air to my iPad - "video format not supported by iPad". My Canon camera saves .MOV format and so does my iPhone. Why then can they not sync and be played on iPad? Some forums suggest that the .MOV files must be tanslated into mp4 formats by paid for apps. Apple makes any kind of data transfer between Apple devices unneccessarily difficult. Or, am I missing something!?

  • Video format supported - Nokia N95

    Hi,
Maybe I can be wrong, but I think that I have moved a MPEG video into Nokia N95 and it worked fine. However, I tried to do the same thing with another video file (mpeg) and it didnt work, Nokia N95 didnt recognize the file. I dont know if the reason was the lenght of the file 40mb.
I have some questions about it:
    1) Which video format is supported on N95?
    2) Is there a way to use any format (AVI, MPEG,..) without converting it?
    Thanks.

    Hi brjohnsmith
Unfortunately you are going to need to use a converter although there is a wide choice and you may find this post by el_loco whom is an authority on the subject of use:

  • DW CC 2014 MPEG4 (.mp4), Ogg Vorbis (.ogv), and WebM (.webm) Video Formats Supported?

I am pretty sure the answer is no, but I need to verify whether or not these formats are supported in DW or must be hand-coded.  I know HTML5 and Flash video are supported.
    Thanks!
    Jerry

HTML5 video is MP4, OGG and WEBM.
And yes, the code for inserting HTML5 video is supported by DW CS6 and above.
Go to Insert menu, HTML5 Video.   Don't use Flash.  It's a dead web technology.

  • Video Formats Supported by Original iPhone (after 2.0.2 update)

Hello, I checked the technical specifications for original iPhone and iPhone 3G separately and I found the following difference.
    Original iPhone:
H.264 video, up to 768 Kbps, 320 by 240 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP2
    iPhone 3G:
H.264 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 3.0 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP495
So my question is that if I update the software of my original iPhone to version 2.0.2, does it update the supported video formats as well??
    Thanks.
    Raymond

I did a little digging around and found this at the AT&T site...
    http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/specials/en/2G3Gcomparison.pdf
It would appear that they both support the same throughput and Baseline Profile … with the updated software, I presume.
    Hope that helps.

  • ITunes error message - "video format is not supported by the iPad" My video is mp4, mpeg-4.

When syncing my iPad 2....  Why do I get this iTunes error message? "video format is not supported by the iPad"
My video is mp4, another is mpeg-4.

Or download an alternate video player, such as avplayerhd.

  • Apple TV Best Video Format & Converter

Hi, I'm considering getting myself an AppleTV instead of building an HTPC type box just to stream TV & my movies.
Basically I will have the always-on PC upstairs hardwired into my gigabit network, which will store all of my movies, TV shows, music etc. as well as hosting my printer. That PC is also the one I'll be using to sync my iPad & iPhones to.
Currently I use VLC streamer to play videos on my iDevices; and I could just Airpay the stream through to an AppleTV, but this ties up a device (to a extent), slows it down & drains its battery. Plus it would mean that if I started something, then wanted to go out with my device, it would screw up playback for my wife. Therefore I plan to get all of my library into h.264 format & imported into iTunes so the AppleTV can play it via home sharing.
So what I would like to know is what is my best option for conversion? Is there a format I would be best off downloading it in in the first place to make conversion easier/faster? I only have a 32" 720p TV, so full HD is unnecessary, but I would like to include the surround sound info so that in the future I can output the AppleTV's HDMI through a home theatre processor. Hopefully can keep the filesize up to around 1GB, maybe 1.5 max?

    Video formats supported
H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High or Main Profile level 4.0 or lower, Baseline profile level 3.0 or lower with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
    Audio formats supported
HE-AAC (V1), AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), protected AAC (from iTunes Store), MP3 (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3, and 4), Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV; Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound pass-through
    Photo formats
    JPEG, GIF, TIFF.
It's impossible to suggest a converter without knowing the compression type used for audio and video in the source material, perhaps you can provide that information.
We cannot provide information to help circumvent any copy protected content.

  • Unsupported video format ?! ( iphone 4 )

I read on the official Apple website that the iphone 4 supports H264, Mpeg4 and M-jpeg video formats..
But when i converted a video into H264 format, the video couldnt be synced as it is incompatible ?
This is the details of the video from itunes >>
    Kind: Mpeg-4
    Size: 518 Mb
    Bit Rate: 189 kbps
    Profile: Low Complexity
    Channels: Stereo
    Total Bitrate: 3397 kbps
    Video Dimensions: 640x480
    Video Codec: H264

    Copied from this link.
    http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html
Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format.
iTunes also includes an option to create an iPod or iPhone compatible version. With the video selected, at the iTunes menu bar go to Advanced and select Create iPod or iPhone version. This will create a copy of the existing video in an iPod or iPhone compatible version.

  • Lots of video formats, can Apple TV play them?

Considering buying an Apple TV, I'm trying to learn what it can & can't do.  In addition to the seasons of shows I'd be buying from iTunes, and other services such as Netflix & Hulu Plus, I have tons of video files kept in an external drive.  They're in every format you can think of... AVI, MP4, MKV, FLV & all the rest.  What would I do to view these?  Would I be able to add these to my iTunes library and view them that way?
Still trying to wrap my head around this, any advice will be greatly appreciated.

You'd need to convert them to a supported format.

  • Acceptable video formats for iPhone

I am attempting to download music videos and movies to my iPhone. I've found in the past the mp4 files work for videos, but recently, mp4 files have not been working. I get a message saying that the file is not compatible with iPhone. Any suggestions???

Just because a file is a mpeg4 video does not mean it is iPod/iphone compatible.
It must meet certain specs regarding bit rate, resolution, etc.
Apple spells these specs out in the tech specs found on Apple.com.
    Here they are:
    Video formats supported: H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;
    H.264 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 3.0 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;
MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
