IMovie '03 with iLife '08

I upgraded to iLife '08 and Leopard, but am only running 768MB RAM, so iMovie v 7 did not load, leaving me with iMovie v 3.03. It will not run at all. Any suggestions?

Download and use iMovie 6.

  • How do I install iMovie 06 with iLife 09 ?

I have installed iLife 09 on my MacBook. I don't like the new iMovie version and want to go back to iMovie06 but keep the rest of iLife 09. I don't even care if iMovie 09 is still there, I won't use it. I have the install disks for iLife 06 from my old computer. How do I do the installation? Do I first need to remove iMovie 09? Or do I have to remove all of iLife 09 and re-install all but iMovie 09 after installing iLife 06? What is the easiest path for me? I want all of iLife 09 except I want iMovie 06 in place of (or in addition to) iMovie 09.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple discussions.
Many people use iMovie 06 with iLife 09 & 08
There are 2 ways to do this.
    1) Use Pacifist to install just iMovie 06 from the iLife 06 disk.
Pacifist is an application for Mac OS X that opens up .pkg installer packages, .dmg disk images, .zip, .tar, .tar.gz, .tar.bz2, .pax, and .xar archives, and more, and lets you install individual files out of them. This is useful if you need to install just one file out of a package instead of the entire package.
    2) Delete iLife 09, install all of iLife 06, then re-install iLife 09.
When iLife 09 is installed, all of the old iLife applications are automatically deleted EXCEPT iMovie 06, because Apple WANTS you to have it.
I like method number 1 myself.
    I use both iMovie 06 and iMovie 09 (iMovie 06 about 90%, iMovie 09 about 10%).

  • IMovie '06 with iLife '08-Will it work?

I recently purchased iLife '08. When i installed it, it warned me that my hardware was inadequate for running the new version of iMovie. It installed everything else, but left my old iMovie alone.
Does anyone know if I will still be able to put together slide shows using a combination of the new iPhoto, and iDVD with the older iMovie? Or am I stuck?
    Thanks for your help.

You are NOT "stuck" I have a new Intel Mac and I use iMovie 06 and iDVD 08 by choice.

  • Does iMovie 06 Work with iLife 08

I have a PM G4, PM G5 (SP 1.8) and a PB G4 1.25. From what I have read, I am convinced that iMovie 08 will not install on any of my macs.
    See this link:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imovieHD6.html
I'm curious to know if iMovie 06 will work with the various components of iLife 08. If so it would be worth it for me to purchase iLife 08 since I only do SD video, have no interest in HD video and that way I could use the iPhoto, iweb etc components of iLife 08 with iMovie 06.
If it dosen't work with the other components of iLife 08 then I'll not but it. I'll wait until after Leopard is out in October and then buy a new iMac with Leopard and iLife 08 installed. Also by then the bugs in iLife 08 should also be documented and even some updates released..
    Anyone know?
    Thanks,
    Bob

Thanks Len and everyone who has provided input!!! I'm feeling much better that those of us who have older but still fine running macs with the ability to run leopard when it is released will still be able to use iLife 08 via iMovie 06.
Here is one final question before I mark this solved. I understand that when you install iLife 08 it leaves iMovie 06 intact. But does it upgrade the remaining components of iLife 06 to iLife 08? I have been in the habit of saving my current iLife suite as iLifeXX old and then doing an install of the new version of iLife. This way I would still have the old version to revert to and also have it available if I still had some old iMovie/iDVD projects that were still in the works.
It is very encouraging Len that you were able to successfully import an iMovie 06 project into iLife 08.
Just want to be sure before I do the install and all (except iMovie) of my iLife 06 apps have been replaced with iLife 08 apps.
Again, thanks for all the good news.

  • Install iMovie HD 6 on intel machine with iLife '09

I recently bought a new intel iMac with iLife '09 preinstalled. On my old PowerMac G5, I had iLife '08 installed as well as the free iMovie HD 6 for iLife '08 folks who didn't like the new iMovie. I prefer HD 6 so would like to continue using it. In order to install iMovie HD 6, I need to have iLife '08 installed in its entirety. Is this going to mess up my already-installed iLife '09? iMovie is the only app for which I want to use an older version.

iMovie 06.03 and iMovie 06.04 are believed to be the same program. Except in one area. iMovie 06.04 "looks" to see if you have iLife 08.
If you have iMovie 06.03 you should be able to just copy it onto your new Mac.
Look at what install disks you still have. Pacifist is an application for Mac OS X that opens up .pkg installer packages and lets you install individual files out of them. This is useful if you need to install just one file out of a package instead of the entire package.
If you have iMovie 06 you CAN download the upgrades for it from Apple.
Also post your question in the iMovie 06 area, you will find many iLife 09 / iMovie 06 users there.

  • How do i install iMovie 6 onto my new imac with iLife 8?

I have a new imac with iLife 8 installed with Leopard.
I can't get used to the new iMovie 8 and want to instal iMovie 6 (which i am used to and find great).
Can anyone recommend how i can do this?
I don't want to change the other iLife apps, only iMovie 6.
Also the new imac is not at home and not connected to the internet, is there anyway i can do this without being online? can i download a DMG on a different mac and instal on the new one?
    Thanks very much

    follow advice given here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2281
basicly: think twice before setting any checkboxes and hitting any 'install' button
I would try the installer disks of your G5.. probably contains iMHD6 ..

  • Installing iMovie 6.04 on a computer with iLife 09

Last year I installed iLife 08 on my G4 and its presence allowed me to download iMovie 6.04 from the Apple site for free while they were allowing that promotion. I have been working with it perfectly with many saved projects and it was my expectation that I should be able to install it on a new Intel iMac 10.5 as long as I have the iMovie 6.04 dmg Install Package.
However there is some confusion about this maneuver where some have said that the dmg will only install when iLife 08 is present and not with iLife 09. It has been suggested that iLife 09 would first have to be trashed and then iLife 08 installed after which the iMovie dmg can then be installed. Then iLife 09 could be reinstalled overriding 08 but allowing 6.04 to coexist.
It would be great to know the answer to this as it is crucial for me to be able to keep the 6.04 application. Has anyone downloaded the free 6.04 dmg package in this way on their computer and then subsequently reinstalled it on a newer computer with iLife 09?
Thanks for any insight you can provide.

    Hi
Ziatron writes in another answer/topic that to be able to install iM 6.0.4 You need to have
    iMovie'08 installed first (iMovie'09 doesn't help)
So either You got to install this first (and it will interfere with iLife9)
    then iMovie HD 6.0.4
    then iLife9
    or
    Install iLife 6 (6.0.3) and then re-install iLife9.
I have iMovie 6.0.4 and iMovie'09 running on same hard disk but I did upgrade
naturally without any eventual reminents on HD from iLife9 first to find and discard.
Seems more tricky then first observed.
Probably I would get an external FireWire hard disk and install Mac OS and iLife
    on this to try first.
PROBLEM. Not all FireWire hard disks are bootable eg Western Digitals.
I use one from Lacie as test-bench.

  • Missing hard drive space after aborted attempt at sharing iMovie project with YouTube

So, recently I tried sharing an iMovie project with YouTube.  I clicked on the project in my project library, then selected share with YouTube from the drop down menu.  I chose to share it as a HD 720 project.  At this point, I had 27 GB of free hard drive space. After the project was converted (or whatever it's called, a process which took about half an hour, and which left me with about 6.5 GB of hard drive space), but before the project was actually exported or shared with or uploaded or published to YouTube (the second step), I saw that it was going to take three hours to upload, so I decided I wanted to share it as a non-HD video, in order to save time and space on my HD.  I cancelled the upload.  I then deleted the project in my imovie projects folder (since it now had the HD logo beside the name), intending to just start over and share the project in 960x540.  Thing is, after deleting every trace of it I could find in iMovie, in my Documents Folder, in my Movies folder, and in iTunes, I only reclaimed 4 GB of space on my hard drive (leaving me with 10 GB).  So what happened to the missing 17 GBs, and how can I get them back?  Also, the amount of space used in order to share that project just seems excessive to me, so I realize that something else might be going on here.  Thoughts?  Suggestions?  Comments?
    Thanks.

  • If you buy iphoto app does imovie come with it

I just paid 14.99 for the iphoto app and it looks like imovie came with it?

No, two seperate apps. But they come as a bundle with the iLife.... under certain cases.
If you have a new computer, often you'll get these pre-installed, and only have to ACCEPT the apps from your purchases list.

  • IMovie project with 06 (please read and help..)

I just upgraded to iLife 08. I had 06 before 08 and had a iMovie project with 06 and can't view in iMovie, why is this.

I don't know the answer to that but you can download and reinstall iMovie HD to complete your project. You'll find that the new iMovie has simplified some aspects which many do not like so Apple has provided an iMovie HD download for those with iLife 08 installed. That way you can use the older version for those features that have been dumbed down in iPhoto 8. Both have their pluses and minuses. I like the older version for how it handles added multiple audio tracks.

  • Run iMovie 06 and iLife 08 at the same time?

I hate to complain, but they should have called it imovie 1908, cause they stepped so far back. I don't get it. I LOVED the transitions and effects of 06. I bragged to all my windows colleagues how much better Apple does things... and then 08...
Anyway, can I run iLife 08 for the other functions, like iPhoto (which was a huge improvement) but uninstall iMovie 08 and install iMovie 06 instead? Be the best of both worlds!!!

iMovie 6 will work on a system with iLife 08 installed. If iLife 08 is installed on a system with iMovie 6, it will not erase the existing iMovie application. You can download iMovie 6 for free if you have iLife 08.

  • Keeping iMovie 06 and iLife 08

I just installed iLife 08, and while I like the new iWeb 08 and iPhoto 08, iMovie 08 leaves much to be desired (many of the features I used in iMovie 06 are missing in the new version and I cannot use iMovie without them).
I just read that there is a way to keep iMovie 06 in iLife 08- does anyone have information how to do this? It was even mentioned that Apple is providing a download for iMove 06 for those of us who prefer the additional features. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

I agree, iMovie 8 is pretty awful in some respects. Thank heavens they let us keep iMovie 6. I assume that a lot of users, wanting a simpler way to make a movie to then use to make a DVD, influenced Apple to make the changes. Those of us who were used to iMovie 6 - and had learned how to use it - are shocked that they dropped practically all the editing capacity!
However, giving Apple the benefit of the doubt, if I want to do a quick and dirty movie to burn a disc, iMovie 8 is there, and if I want to do the quality I could get from iMovie 6, it is still there. And both can be used in iDVD 8. I just hope they never take that capacity away permanently.
And it's a shame that the good additions to iMovie 8 couldn't have been combined with the good editing ability (maybe two options - a simple and an advanced) of iMovie 6, since its very difficult if not impossible (as I see it) to put the basics of the movie together in iMovie 8 and then export it (via the desktop?) to iMovie 6 for final editing.

  • Getting HD with iLife '11?

I've seen multiple videos about downloading iMove HD with iMove 09, which I have, but with I also have iLife 2011. The free download link I have been seeing keeps saying that it is no longer available. Is there another safe download out there to upgrade to iMovie HD?
    Sorry if this is confusing...

    Hi
    A. iMovie HD - is version 5 - this will not run on Mac OS X.6.6 !
    You need iMovie HD6 (version 6.0.0 - 6.0.3 (4))
    B. No No free down loads any more (and this was just for iMovie'08 owners and
    was iMovie 6.0.4)
    Try - Amazon or e-bay
What You find as down loads are up-dates that requires iMovie HD 6.0.0 - no full version.
BUT - after You bought iLife 6 - to get it to run OK - YOU FIRST have to un-install
    iLife 08 - 11 - then install iLife 6
Now I would (just to be sure about it) move iMovie HD6 in Application folder
to a new folder I put in Applications named "iMovie previous versions".
Usually iLife 08-11 should do this - but I'm not 100%
    Then install iLife'11 (or 09)
Now they will all run OK.
    Yours Bengt W

    Could have been mine!
Happily this is easily achieved, but it has to be done backwards.
Delete iMovie 9 (just drag it to the trash). Now install iMovie 6 from the iLife 6 install disks.
Now re-install iMovie 9. This automatically moves iMovie 6 into a folder it creates in your Applications folder called iMovie Previous Version.
Now you have them both, and you can have both in the Dock as well.
Alternatively you could try this method, suggested by poster Uitech:
Open a terminal and type "touch /Library/Preferences/com.apple.iLife08.plist"
    (No quotes)
Install iMovieHD6 from the iLife 6 install disk.
This works with both Leopard and Snow Leopard Macs.
