IMovie '06 with iLife '08-Will it work?

I recently purchased iLife '08. When i installed it, it warned me that my hardware was inadequate for running the new version of iMovie. It installed everything else, but left my old iMovie alone.
Does anyone know if I will still be able to put together slide shows using a combination of the new iPhoto, and iDVD with the older iMovie? Or am I stuck?
Thanks for your help.

You are NOT "stuck" I have a new Intel Mac and I use iMovie 06 and iDVD 08 by choice.

  • How do I install iMovie 06 with iLife 09 ?

I have installed iLife 09 on my MacBook. I don't like the new iMovie version and want to go back to iMovie06 but keep the rest of iLife 09. I don't even care if iMovie 09 is still there, I won't use it. I have the install disks for iLife 06 from my old computer. How do I do the installation? Do I first need to remove iMovie 09? Or do I have to remove all of iLife 09 and re-install all but iMovie 09 after installing iLife 06? What is the easiest path for me? I want all of iLife 09 except I want iMovie 06 in place of (or in addition to) iMovie 09.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple discussions.
Many people use iMovie 06 with iLife 09 & 08
There are 2 ways to do this.
    1) Use Pacifist to install just iMovie 06 from the iLife 06 disk.
Pacifist is an application for Mac OS X that opens up .pkg installer packages, .dmg disk images, .zip, .tar, .tar.gz, .tar.bz2, .pax, and .xar archives, and more, and lets you install individual files out of them. This is useful if you need to install just one file out of a package instead of the entire package.
    2) Delete iLife 09, install all of iLife 06, then re-install iLife 09.
When iLife 09 is installed, all of the old iLife applications are automatically deleted EXCEPT iMovie 06, because Apple WANTS you to have it.
I like method number 1 myself.
    I use both iMovie 06 and iMovie 09 (iMovie 06 about 90%, iMovie 09 about 10%).

  • IMovie & iDVD from iLife 06 don't work with my computer

    Hello all,
I have just installed iLife06, and I have problems with iMovie and iDvd
    1. when opening a file from the old iMovie 05 it doesn't work. The transitions are messed up and the audio and video are out of phase. If I try to redo the transitions a big jump happens.
    2. I imported a new movie from my camera and when I wanted to edit it (just as I used to with the 05 program) it does not work. Transitions and fades don't work either.
    3. iDvd performs the same way with my old files. It doesn't read them properly and I can't use them anymore.
iWeb, iTunes, iPhoto work just fine.
The computer was reformated after having a new logic plate installed two weeks ago.
Does anyone know what I can do to use these programs just like I used to before I installed iLife 06??
    Help appreciated.

I also just installed iLife '06 on my G5 and iMovie HD '06 does not work at all. I am not able to import photos of any format or any DV clips. All of the buttons appear to be frozen (themes, media, editing, etc.). I do get the error message when I start up that some features of iMovie HD will not work since my graphics card does not support quartz extreme. Perhaps that is the problem, but I thought the program should at least run on a G5. I have tried several of the maintenance activities (repairing permissions, dumping logfiles, etc.) suggested on a previous posting, but with no success. I have used iMovie 4 for years with no problems. Is there anything left to do but try to reinstall iMovie 4?

  • 3G SIM with internet only, will it work?

    Hey,
I am going to China and I would like to have internet there. I am planning on buying a SIM card on Ebay which allows me to have 3G in china. If I replace my current SIM with this 3G only sim, will that work? I know I won't be able to call and that the SIM has to be a nano-SIM. I know it works on iPads, but since the iPhone can also call, I am not sure if it accepts 3G only SIMs.

Sim cards need to be activated with a carrier to work so what features you want or don't want you'll have to ask the carrier for options. You're phone will also have to be compatible with the carrier.

  • HT4381 I bought an Apple TV at an Apple store in the USA with a USA plug (110).  I am now in Switzerland with 220v.  Will it work on 220 without a converter?

I bought an Aspple TV at an Apple store in the USA  (110 v) and now am in Switzerland (220v) ans so far afraid to plug it in to the 220 socket.  Will it work okay without an external 220 v converter?

yeah and the connector in the appletv is std also used by my ps2 and old cdplayer so you need just get a new cable  then you don't need to use a plug converter

    Model Name: PowerBook G4 15"
    Model Identifier: PowerBook3,5
    Processor Name: PowerPC G4 (3.3)
    Processor Speed: 1 GHz

    3) Okay Apple what do we do now?
    4) Is this a forced hardware upgrade???
    Thanks for the help.
    All the best,

Our powerbooks can not run iMovie'08. Not enough horsepower.
That is why we are offered a free download of iMovie '06.

  • G4 Power PC Powerbook wants brand new iLife 08, Will it work?

    OK, boys and girls.
As a mac follower for the last five years I have always keep up to date with the iLife & each OS! But, I have just bought iLife 08 and I feel as though the little machine I am using will have issues taking the App! I have an old powerbook which has had a real beating over the last four years but kept going for me through thick and thin...
I have been reading the discussions about issues you lot have been having with iMovie 08, I myself have checked the minimum reqs and feel as though we have finally found apple software is leaping in front of their older hardware. I just bought the iLife and don't even fancy taking it out of the wrapper as I can still get a refund.
So, with my 867 Mhz and 640 mb of SD RAM, even though it's a G4 I am of the opinion that I will have issues!
Anyone out there had iLife 08 upgrade issues with an older powerbook?
I will patiently wait until I have some responses before I take the **** thing out of the wrapper!
    Yours
    Liam120.

Hi Specs, thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I'm afraid I am going to have to return the iLfe and wait until the lauch of Leopard, invest in a new machine (I feel it's time) and and then the new OS and iLfe will be pre-installed. It is a great machine but it does stress somewhat with the newer graphics, I should have remembered the time that expose wouldn't animate the 'ripple' effect with Dashboard, so if it has problems there, the new iMovie will just be impossible!
    Cheers Specs

  • IMovie and Canon FS100 Camcorder - will they work together?

Hi! A MacUser since 1989, and using a digital camera for stills and videos since 2004 - +but really have done next to nothing with a true "camcorder".+
I'm considering a Canon FS100 camcorder which records onto SD and SDHC cards (but has no internal memory / storage).
    *But my concerns are this:*
    1. How to transfer from the SD cards to my Mac? (currently 10.4.11 but likely 10.5 in a month or so)
    2. If I purchase the camcorder in the USA it is apparently set for NTSC - i.e. I can only play back from the camera to an NTSC television - but I travel in the US, live in Europe (PAL) -- is there no "switch" to choose either the recording or the playback mode (like there is with my iPod Touch- for playback that is).
    3. What about "still photos" that I take with the FS100? Are they .jpg files? Can iPhoto handle them?
    4. Indeed what about iPhoto: Can it import all the videos and photos from an FS100??
Again, this is all real "new new" to me; and I don't want to buy/carry 2 camcorders (an NTSC and a PAL!!!) --
Any help or reference guides etc really appreciated. The big trip is not tomorrow, so I've got some time here.
    Thanks! Steve Schulte

    Hi there Stephen,
I feel so lucky that I stumbled into a great file management scheme with my Canon HF100 and I can also report that before that I tried an FS100 and the same procedure for a week before I got this camera. I picked up this method on a thread on MacRumours, I believe.
Without the inconvenience of needing the AC power adapter plugged in to download files direct from the camera, simply use a USB card reader to read directly from the card. The card will mount as a device labeled "Canon" and inside that is a single directory labeled "Private". Inside that is the one you want, labeled "AVCHD". Create a disc image just a little larger than this file and drag the "AVCHD" file over to the disk image. Name the disk image to suit, such as place/date. Both iMovie 08 and FCE recognize the mounted image as a camera and import the footage just fine. Not quite PNP, but this procedure is so smooth that I'm almost surprised that this video n00b could get it going so well If you are in a hurry you can just drag the file to a folder named similar to what you will name the disk image to keep them sorted and do the disk images later on.
I use 8 gig SDHC cards so that I can archive each full card's AVCHD file's disk image on a dual layer DVD. I leave the images on a hard drive as well, but won't be shy about deleting less precious ones and using the DVD's only for storage. The images will mount directly from the DVD and import easily too.
This weekend I upgraded from 10.4.10 to 10.5.4, installed FCE, and was able to mount a disc image and import the files as easily as before.
But of course, you need an Intel Mac do work with the AVCHD files....
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers!
    Glen

  • IMovie '03 with iLife '08

I upgraded to iLife '08 and Leopard, but am only running 768MB RAM, so iMovie v 7 did not load, leaving me with iMovie v 3.03. It will not run at all. Any suggestions?

    Download and use iMovie 6.

  • Contact phone numbers with ext. numbers will not work from old phone

When trying to use a contact number with an ext. the phone will say I do not have long distance nor international dialing on my plan.My previous phone was a LG Dare which allowed for the number to be dialed and the ext was then dialed after a release button was pressed. Any thoughts?

You can enter your contact number in your phonebook/contacts with a comma or two between the number and extension.  A comma should wait 2 seconds and then dial the extension, 2 commas 4  seconds, etc
    1234567890,1234
Or you can try a ; (semi-colon) to pause and ask for you to dial an extension.  I don't know if this works on a GS3 or not

  • Using Lacie DVD enclosure with new HDD : Will it work ?

May be a silly question. Seems that my Lacie Firewire 400 External DVD burner with a 7.5 " enclosure is no longer working. Should I decide to buy an External Drive
for my Powermac G4. Will I encounter any difficulties installing the drive ?
    Comments welcome.

With FireWire, you may not have any problems, but there's always the possibility that the bridge board in the enclosure isn't programmed for use with a hard drive (fixed media). An optical drive is classified as a removable media device. I tried connecting a hard drive to the bridge board from a Sony DVD burner enclosure with FireWire/USB 2.0 connectivity, but it wasn't recognized. Try it - you won't damage anything, but make sure the hard drive is configured as "master" and not the factory default of "cable select."

  • BEFW11S4V4 WITH PLAYSTATION 3 WILL IT WORK

    HI,
I am having a befw11s4v4 router and playstation 3 and 2 wired comps...and the comps. r able to go online but the playstation is not working with this router...
in some case it is connecting and going online only for few secs..
is any body come across the same issue and do you have any fix for this
    thank you

Connect the Computer to Port 1 on the Router and check
whether you are online. Then you could possible connect
the PS3 to Port 3 or Port 4 on the Router.
Check the Lights on both the Router and PS3 before
    proceeding further.
Playstation 3 supports two network connection modes:
    Infrastructure and Ad Hoc.
    Infrastructure Mode
Infrastructure Mode allows you to connect your PS3 to
    the Wireless Broadband Router.
Create a new network connectionYou can adjust network setting to connect to a Router and save the
network connections data on your PS3.
    On the PS3 :
Select (Settings) from the home menu.
Select (Network Settings) and press .
Select Infrastructure Mode and press .
    Set up the new connection.
For details about Infrastructure Mode set up, see
    "Setting up Infrastructure Mode "
To save the new connection, press .
To test the connection, make sure the WLAN switch on the PS3
is turned on, then select Test Connection and press .
If the connection is successful, information about the network
connection will appear. Press to end the connection test.
If the connection test fails, follow the on-screen instructions to
check the settings. Network settings for the connections can be
    changed from the options menu.
    Port Numbers
The TCP and UDP Port numbers you will need to connect to the
    game servers are:
    TCP Ports: 10070 - 10080
    UDP Ports: 10070
These Port Numbers are to be forwarded on the Router.
If you need port numbers for games published by third-party
companies, you will need to contact them directly for
    additional information.
Kindle revert back if you face any difficulties getting
this done, and We shall fix it.

  • New Problem with Gmail -- account will not work

All -- I am hopeful that you can help me here as I am about at my wits end with attempting to configure Gmail (of all things!) on my iPhone 4.
This is my 3rd Iphone and I started out by copying over the configuration from my 3G. All of my other email accounts worked great after inserting the password. Gmail gave bad user/password combo error. I tried about 5-6 times...still no joy. Had my wife type the password in to make sure it wasn't just me (nope)...double checked that the password still logged me in to gmail via web on the macbook (yep).
So I deleted the gmail account and started over from both selecting "GMAIL" and "OTHER" from the account type and following all appropriate instructions. I've also changed the password just to make sure there's no weird error with the password. Everything else on the iPhone 4 is working great...but I can't get gmail to work at all. Thoughts?

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, no joy.
First time the account was still there.
2nd time the account was gone but after putting in new info the same bad user/password issue occurred.
Incidentally I am able to login to gmail via the web interface on my iphone...
IMAP and POP are both enabled in my gmail account.

says I do not have it installed but I do.

I'm sorry but I couldn't find publish settings under file in explorer.  Is file in another place.  I did input file in my search  and found change temporary internet  file settings.  Under programs, manage add ons.  Scrolled to "shock wave flash object under Adobe  and found it was disabled.  Changed to enabled and now it works fine.  Thanks for your help.
