1. Is there anything anyone can tell me to correct a video that was taken sideways?? I know stupid...but someone took the video sideways and I cannot figure out how to upright it.
2. How in the world do I get IMovie to either burn to a disc or to IDVD. I have tried everything that I have seen discussed and nothing has worked.

Not in iMovie. Lots of options here: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20070122085020753

Have you tried the two most obvious? File menu > Burn project to disc or Share menu > iDVD??

  • My iPhoto app has disappeared and my iMovie has a question mark through it!?

I went to go onto my iphoto app on my macbook pro today and realised it was missing and imovie has a question mark on the app and won't let me open it can any help me get it back please? I haven't messed with it nor deleted it so haven't got a clue where it has gone or what's happened. I don't want to pay for it as its not cheap and I had it for free on the mac so don't see why I should by it.
    Thanks in advance

I've managed to get them back for all the other people who are having the same problem go onto the app store on your Mac and once it loaded click 'Purchases' with a little price tag by it and look for it in the list and it should be there for you to install it again for free

  • New iMovie - A few questions (fav/reject, timeline)

Have some questions on the new iMovie v 10:
    1.  Is the "new" clip wrapping "vertical" timeline view gone?  I actually liked this as opposed the the traditional horizontal timeline.  Now all I see is the traditional horizontal timeline.
    2.  The Favorite and Reject buttons appear to be gone.  I have to right-click and then select "favorite" or "reject" .  This has gone from one click to two...And I don't feel that I have gained this space in the UI.   Can I get fav and reject buttons back?

    1- View>Wrapping Timeline
2- Fav/Reject specific buttons are gone but can be accessed with a control click. Which will also show you the Keyboard Shortcuts for those options.

  • My handycam to IMovie..few questions

    Hey all,
So I hook my handycam up to my iMac. it appears to DL the clips onto iMovie.
    Here are my questions...
    1) How do I control what gets put into iMovie from the handycam? do I have the choice?
    2) How do I speed up the DL to the iMac? It DLs at normal play speed.... takes awhile to move an entire cassette of video onto the iMac
    3) It doesn't appear as though when it imports direct from vidcam to computer that it is "saving" the video, only placing in imovie temporarily as a clip. what's the best practice for saving video? how is it done? where should it be saved to? Where on computer, or if not computer, DVD? I know vid is a space hog and I only have 250 Gigs.
    4) How do I change the resolution of the video and screen size. I had thought of throwing some of this stuff onto you tube but these files are MASSIVE! I think youtube has a ten minute/100mb limit for most people. these files are often less than 10 minutes but are up to 400mb in size!!!
    Thanks!!
    you are all so great!!
    Jay.

    1) press 'Import' > video gets imported, press 'Import' again > no import... use the play/ff/rew buttons to move on tape ...
    2) download is allways in realtime... your/any camera isn't able to do it faster...
    3) clips are imported straight into your iMovie project on your harddrive (or wherever you have located it when choosing 'New Project').. .hit 'save' once in a while ...
dv is by standard 13GB/h ... iM is by definition a consumer product, I wouldn't import more then 2 - 3h into a single project .. so, your HD fits lots of projects.. (keep 10 - 15GB allways free...)
    4) changing codec and resolution is only an option in the EXPORT dialog of iM.. use any approbiate preset setting for your needs in the export dialog, or choose an Expert Setting, I'm discribing & illustarting here on my website:

  • Many iMovie to DVD Questions

OK, guys, I'm in over my head here.
Working on the 3-night project shot last week. Will be making DVDs out of this project. Shot with HV30 in 30P mode, last night in Cine, too. Film noise/grain PLUS not best audio first 2 nights because shooting from too far away & bad lighting.
    1. For making DVDs, is it best to use iMovie HD6, 08, 09 (bought, but not installed yet), (or even FCE4-no experience with this at all, but have access)?
    2. Every time I've used iMovie HD6 or 08 in the past, when it gets to iDVD 08 it turns my Widescreen footage to Standard (I'm playing it on a Standard TV & want letterboxing) although it's Widescreen when testing iDVD project before burning. How do I keep it Widescreen??? This has been driving me crazy for awhile.
    3. As for sound, I tried boosting in iMovie HD 6 and it didn't sound that great. In iMovie 08, I remember you can boost up to 200% and normalize. Does that turn out better and is it worth the tradeoff if the final product (DVD) doesn't have as good picture quality as HD 6? For last 2 nights, I also recorded audio on a digital voice recorder. Is it worth it ( and HOW TO do it, no clapboard used) to try to use this audio in conjunction with the video shot and not the audio from the camcorder?
    4. Also, is tonight the time to upgrade and install 09? Or is it going to mess me up too much mid-project and DVD quality not as good and I should wait?
    5. Any plug-ins to reduce film noise/grain?
    6. Finally, what settings in iMovie 08 & 09 are best for exporting when final product is DVD? Been very confused with the Apple Forums discussion boards threads on "deinterlacing is not deinterlacing."
Phew! Sorry for so many questions. Anxiously awaiting the new iMovie 09: The Missing Manual!
    Thanks, Deborah
PS crossposting in both iMovie HD 6 AND iMovie 09 Forums.

    Hi
+1. For making DVDs, is it best to use iMovie HD6, 08, 09 (bought, but not installed yet), (or even FCE4-no experience with this at all, but have access)?+
For doing a DVD I would only use iMovie HD 6 or FinalCut any version.
If You are not use to FinalCut this can be a *big step up in learning* but when done
    very revarding.
+2. This has been driving me crazy for awhile.+
Not sure but I would make a WideScreeen project in iMovie HD 6 and when done close
iMovie open iDVD and select a 16x9 project then import the iMovie movie project into iDVD (icon with a Star on it)
(I never use the "Share(Export to iDVD" function in iMovie
One can force Letterboxing by starting a 4x3DV project, then import a still photo that
locks it to this. Now import Your 16x9 video and it will be forced into letterboxed 4x3.
Burning this as a 4x3 DVD should keep it letterboxed.
+3. Is it worth it ( and HOW TO do it, no clapboard used) to try to use this audio in conjunction with the video shot and not the audio from the camcorder?+
    To increase audio volume -
    • Select video clip
    • Goto Advance then down to Extract Audio
    • Increase this to 150%
    • Select original video clip and restore audio to 150% too
    Now You got 300%
If You need more then copy the audio clip and paste it ontop of itself as many time as needed
Quality. Increasing = more audio problems.
alt. is to export out audio (as QT .aiff) and adjust it in an another program as
"Audacity" (free) or in SoundSoap™ if You got ayn this (or by all means use GarageBand)
    Sync.
To sync external audio recorders - Tough often near impossibly. The device has
to have a TimeCode to be able to keep sync. There are no easy solution as I know of.
+4. Also, is tonight the time to upgrade and install 09? Or is it going to mess me up too much mid-project and DVD quality not as good and I should wait?+
I would not - neither iMovie'08 or 09 will work optimal if You want a DVD as result.
I NEVER change anything Mid-project (Mac OS, QuickTime or program version)
    +5. Any plug-ins to reduce film noise/grain?+
Don't think so but by exporting out or using FinalCut there are good tools in
QuickTime, GarageBand, Audacity, SoundSoap and FinalCut
    Take a look into
    Stupendous software http://www.stupendous-software.com
    GeeThree http://www.geethree.com

    Apple http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/ezediapluginsforimovievol1.html

+6. Finally, what settings in iMovie 08 & 09 are best for exporting when final product is DVD? Been very confused with the Apple Forums discussion boards threads on "deinterlacing is not deinterlacing."+
DE-interlacing is not the problem - It is that both 08 and 09 delete every second line
when going to iDVD. Sharpness is degraded. iMovie HD or FinalCut doesn't do so but
    let You have full quality.

Hello, I have a question mark on the dock where once were icons which were not opening for
iphoto and system preferences. If I
Install it from your iLife or computer's original disk, using Pacifist if needed, and then run the latest applicable iPhoto updater.
will it erase any photos I have on my computer?
I can't use Time Machine because I can't open System Preferences.

  • My imovie had a question mark over it after updating and now imovie is gone.

After updating my imac the imovie icon had a question mark superimposed on it, after clicking on it it disappeared and now imove is gone, how do I retrieve it?

What did you update from and to and how old is the version of iMovie you have?
Sounds like the iMovie you have there is a PPC app which is no longer supported in Lion or Mountain Lion. If that is the case you will need to purchase a new version of the app.

  • IMovie Icon has question mark

    Hi,
I just loaded Elgato Video Capture to download old movies and now I cannot find iMovie. The icon in the dock has a question-mark and the program does not exist in the applications. Can anyone help me with this issue?
    Thanks,
    Roger

You need to search for it and move it to Applications, or reinstall it.

  • IMovie and QuickTime question ?

PLEAE CAN YOU HELP ME IN THIS QUESTION, WHEN USING IMAGE SEQUENCE IN iMovie AND QuickTime Pro, AND IF YOU HAVE IMAGES VERTICAL AND ONES HORIZONTAL, THE SEQUENCE TAKES THE SHAPE OF THE FIRST IMAGE AND USES IT FOR ALL OTHER IMAGES. SO IF FIRST IMAGE IS VERTICAL ALL CONSEQUENT IMAGES ARE VERTICAL. HOW CAN WE MAKE THE SEQUENCE TAKE THE SHAPE OF EACH IMAGE INDIVIADUALLY IRRESPECTIVE OF THE FIRST IMAGE IN THE SEQUENCE.
    Thanks a lot

< putting hands of ears... aahh! good! >
same here: I'm not a 100%, what iwaddah tries to accomplish, I stumble over "QTpro" and "image sequence"...
QTpro allows the conversion of a socalled image sequence into a dv; e.g. you do cellpaintings for a toon, you open that sequence - voila! => video...
    buuuuut:
these files have all to be the same size, rotation, aspect ratio and have to fullfill some specs in naming (consequtive, pic001, pic002...)
my guess, iwaddah's sequence does not fullfill all that; if the first pic is "portrait" (not landscape, video is 4:3), the final video will probably "squash" all pics... (never tried that)

  • IMovie 4 upgrade to iMovie HD (5) questions

I purchased a second-hand copy of iLife 5 so I could use the widescreen capabilities of iMovie HD. I have a couple of questions now that I'm hoping someone can help me with:
1: Where do the Media files go with iMovie HD documents?
2: I don't know how to retain the 16:9 widescreen format when exporting to iDVD, I seem to still have the iDVD version 4 running. Is it possible to create DVD's in 16:9 format or do I need aother software package?
    Christo

    Hi Christo
    1. As You seen iMovie 5 and further stores it's movie project
in a different way. Like one icon with a Star on it.
    - Ctrl-click on it and select - show package/content
Here it is + the other folders too.
    2. Not really sure but wasn't iDVD 5 in Your iLife 5 pack ?

  • IMovie 4 Importing Question

I just get a new camcorder without a firewire. Is there any other way that I can edit the video in iMovie? Copy the video to a CD and import it to iMovie?
Please...please...please...help me. I have been stock with this question for almost 1 week now.

    Hello Lennart
I haven't been doing a lot of editing of late, so I haven't been on this forum in quite a while. Now, I have IM 06 on my laptop, IM 08 on my son's new MacBook but still use IM 04 on my desktop. I guess I'll just have to learn 08 since it is sooo different from 04.
I am disappointed to read your answer as I thought, by now, high capacity, small hard drives would have allowed manufacturers to at least give you the option to record DV directly onto the drive. I'll guess that they're gearing up for full HD (isn't that 40 GB per hour versus 13 for DV?).
Anyway, I know I'm in the wrong forum for this, but wondered if you knew why when importing video clips from one project to another in IM08, the audio isn't imported? The iMovie directions tell you how to do it but also state that the audio is not imported. How do I get it over? It's not like the old days when you could find the Clip in the media folder and use QT to make an audio only clip and bring it into IM. I also remember taking video clips from my digital camera (AVI - motion JPEG, I think) and having both the audio and video come into iMovie as expected.

  • IMovie 06 - iDVD question

so i imported some family vhs tapes to imovie 06.
i go share->idvd and idvd opens and when i open project -> project info, i see that idvd is encoding the movie. btw, unless i open the info window, i would not have known.
the question is, can i start burning the dvd before the encoding stops? so that both would be working rather than waiting for one to finish before the other.
    gotta make that encoding faster
    thanks for any info

Background encoding (like you are seeing) ONLY happens if you have selected 'Best Performance' encoding (which means you have 60 minutes of less to be put on a SL disc) AND you have enabled 'Background Encoding' in the preferences.
can i start burning the dvd before the encoding stops?
    Yes, however
so that both would be working rather than waiting for one to finish before the other.
isn't true. iDVD willl simply have to wait for the encoding to finish before it can actually write anything to your media.
    gotta make that encoding faster
You gotta buy a faster machine! MPG-2 encoding takes a LOT of computer 'horsepower'.

  • Imovie quicktime sharing questions

Sorry for the newbie question, but i need to know how to export only a portion of a video to a quicktime movie.
I have a 25 minute iMovie project that I have already burned to disc and am finished editing. I am very pleased with the result and would like to post a small sample of this video onto an iWeb movie page, perhaps 5 minutes or less runtime and not necessarily the opening 5 minutes...I am not sure what the best way to do this is so that i can still retain all the sound and editing...
I have checked into the Share feature but it seems to only allow me to create a quicktime based on the entire project (which would turn into quite a large file)
Thanks in advance for anyone that may have insight into this task.

Thanks for the speedy reply... the Mac community NEVER sleeps!
    Hi dest,
in the expert settings I would....
    a) choose mp4 as compressor
    b) reduce size... mp4 is a very good compressor, even when your audience will "blow up" while playback, it looks.... ok. 320 for web is BIG, even 160pix can look nice (by 2x in playback)
    c) try a framerate of 15fps
    d) reduce audio quality, mono, 22KHz or less... do you need audio anyhow?
in the expert settings of mpeg4, you'll find a slider "bitrate"... the more to the left, the lower the quality and lower the size (you've guessed THAT)... in case, you have enough time, do some test-renderings. AND: don't forget to take notes about your settings for next time ;-)) how did I manage that??
you have to make the other settings first, before playing with bitrates (a smaller res needs a smaller bitrate etc)

  • Imove 2 part question...really imprtant-for my final!

    hi
ok i have a problem with iMovie first the computer wont burn it on to a DVD like i thought it would but its 9 GB so it wont fit onto a CD so my question is How do i make it small enough?
but then i tried to put it onto my video iPod and it was taking a long time so i dont know if it is going to work but Do you think that if i went to 'save as' and put it on my iPod that i will be able to open it from another computer using my iPod? sorry if thats confusing=]
    thank you soooo much!

    Sorry.
The rules state that you must be 13 years, or older, to post here.
Your question (?) isn't one and your grammar and punctuation make it nearly impossible for us to understand what it is that you want to do.
If this is an iPod question and you're using a modern version of iMovie you follow these steps:
Open the Project, make your edits and adjustments. Save the file (your Project).
Export ->Movie to iPod Movie and wait until the conversion is done.
Please post your OS, iMovie version number and the source format of your video capture.

  • Imovie/idvd ratio question

..If I made a movie/video in imovie, & completed it with the Aspect Ratio set to "Widescreen 16;9", how does that (or does it), affect how it will look in the end, after exporting it to idvd for a burn.
I saw when I exported to itunes, I was able to choose 'Medium 640x360' as well as
'Large 960x540', but does that still mean Im technically still set to widescreen?
Oncein exported to idvd, under project properties, it gives the choice of Standard 4;3 or Widescreen 16;9. I cant see the project anymore, im going blind, but i swear their not the same, & i cant tell the difference at the moment.. If that was already decided in imovie, does it have to be the same for idvd? or can it, should it, would it be changed?
thanks in advance for any help...

16:9 movies should be used in 16:9 iDVD projects. Set your iDVD preferences before creating your project.
