IMovie 08 Chapter Titles in Garage Band - Help!

I've added chapter titles to my iMovie 08 project by sharing it with Garage Band. Now, what do I do if I just want a movie on my hard drive that will play in iTunes or Quicktime, BUT I don't want to compress yet again. In other words, is there some sort of "pass through" with regard to compression since the movie is already in a compressed format as "large movie" (iMovie 08 selection).
Seems that if I choose a compression, I'm compressing an already compressed movie just to get the chapter markers in. Am I missing something here? I don't want to compress twice.
I can't find anything in the Help section nor anything in the Search on this forum or the Garage Band forum.

Use the Share menu "Export Movie to Disk..." option and select the "Full Quality" pop-up.

  • Garage band help appears in a foreign language. can i change the help to english?

in os 10.9.7 garage band help appears in a foreign language. Can i change the Garage band help to help to english?

The GarageBand help is supposed to use the language that is set as your Primary Language in the System Preferences:
Check the settings, drag the language you want to use to the top of the list,  and restart the system .
I that does not fix it, reinstall GarageBand. Then the correct language files are probably missing in the application bundle.

  • GarageBand for a Garage Band help

Hello everybody, I've got some questions. Recently I formed a Garage Band, and fortunately I own a Mac. Now I've played around with GarageBand before, and I know how it works. What I don't know how to work, is hardware. I want to plug in two guitars, a bass, a keyboard, mic, and drums (electric or mic) into the computer, and put each instrument into a separate track. How do I do this? I have no clue what I'm looking for, I don't know what cables I need, and I don't know how much it'll cost me. If anyone can give me some insight, I'd love it. Thanks in advance!

  • IMovie 8 and Titles?? Plz Help

How do you get a title for iMovie to go in the middle of a video clip. I like making youtube videos and would like to explain what certain things are is in the video.. but the problem is whenever i drag a title to the middle of a clip it does not put the title in... If there is any way of doing i would like to do it.
I find that if you put the title at the end and drag it to the clip point you want it works but it take way to much time
i do not know if i have to save anything but i would enjoy this because out of the whole imovie 08 the titles are the coolest part the app.
Thanks for Reading this if you know anything plz reply
    -Nick

Drag the title to the top of the middle of the clip. Drag it to where you want the title to start. Then you can click on the title to give it focus and you can adjust the end point by dragging the right side of the title as a handle.

  • Open imovie project in garage band

    Hi,
I am trying to do mulitiple tracks in imovie, with music, voice-over, etc. and I want to hear my voice-over at the same time as the music, to match timing. This is not possibe via imovie, as one's voice-over obscures everything else, so the timing with the music is out.
I thought that I could export the imovie project to garage band, synch the music and voice-over and send it back.
I "shared" the imovie project to the media browser,
now what? Where did it go?
Can I in fact use garage band in the manner I have described above?
Can't get any joy from the garage band help.
    Any ideas welcome.
    Thanks.

Can I in fact use garage band in the manner I have described above?
    Sure, you can!
To use the movie in GarageBand, click the MediaBrowser icon in the lower right corner of the GaragBand window. Click the "Movies" tab and click disclosure triangle beside the iMovie icon. Now you should see your project.
Select it. Inthe lower part of the Media Browser you see the different sizes of your movie. Select on of them and drag them to the time line.
If your movie has an Audio track you will here it when you play your song and you should be able to play or sing  along with the Movie-audio track and record your vocals. Then I would export the vocal track and import it to iMovie and mix the two tracks in iMovie.

  • IMovie Garage Band iTunes

Which is the best quality result for doing the above work ?
Edit in iMovie, then chapters and sound in garage band and share to iTunes in this order.
Better to share to iTunes in full quality, from iMovie, followed by dragging to garage band for chaptering and then share to iTunes the final movie from garage band ?
The normal procedure would be share to media browser in iMovie to work in garage band and finally share to iTunes from within garage band. But I don't know nothing about loss of quality. Any advice ?

Ideally, the work flow requiring the fewest re-compressions.

Do you have specific requirements regarding the final file container?
    1) If not, then you could share your file from iMovie '08 to the Media Browser using the specific preset for your final target compression format -- e.g., iPhone, iPod, or TV. You can then open Media Browser file in GarageBand, chapter it, and Export or Share it using the "Full Quality" option. This work flow will place the chapter track, the original video, and the audio into an MOV file container which is compatible with iTunes.
    2) On the other hand, if you want the final chaptered content to be in an M4V file container, you would probably do better to export the iMovie '08 project via the "Export using QuickTime" option as a high quality/high data rate compressed file, open it in GarageBand, chapter it, and then "Send" it on to iTunes using a selected target preset. This option re-compresses the audio and video and places them in the M4V file container along with your chapter track.
Note: Different file containers have different features/capabilities. For instance, if you use an internal frame as the "Poster" frame, then an MOV file would be fine here. If, on the other hand, you want to associate an external image file as your "Poster" frame in iTunes, the you would need to use an M4V or MP4 file container.

  • Help for a new mac-garage band user-m audio pro setting imput

garage band help says click on preferences, but the preferences menu only will come up at start of project--then can only set audio output to m audio pro-audio imput is blank--so internal mike is usued not imput from m audio.
Somehow I managed to get it to work for one song--headphones from m audio montored tracks-guitar recorded using amp sims--been trying for hours to repeat that but only internal mike now will work.

You should be able to open garageband preferences
anytime. Are you sure your looking under Garageband >
    Preferences.
And what interface are you using, is it the Fast
    Tracks Pro?
Yes fast tracks pro--I finnaly was able to go to preferences when I exited garage band and openend it up again, but when I was working on the song and clicked on preferences it would not come up

  • Garage band real instruments

When I plug in my studio link to record my bass and guitar on garage band it does not pick them up at all.
I have done everything suggested on the garage band help.
    Any idea what to do?

they're all just Cables with different types of connectors.
every one I've seen is, yeah, and it really ticks me off that they continue to advertise them as if they'll just magically work. it is simply not true for most people.
I agree. For most people, it's really false or at least misleading advertisement.
Unfortunately, we have seen several cases of similar behavior on the part of manufacturers and retailers.

  • Voice Over in Garage Band

    Any Suggestions?

Seek and you will find, I found this in garage band help:
You can send a project containing a podcast track to iTunes as a podcast. The podcast track must be visible when you export the project. When you send a podcast to iTunes, the podcast file is a compressed (AAC) file rather than an uncompressed (AIFF) file.
To send a podcast to iTunes:
If the podcast track is hidden, choose Track > Show Podcast Track.
Choose Share > Send Podcast to iTunes.
You can also export a project containing a podcast track to disk as a podcast by choosing Share > Export Podcast to Disk.
If the podcast track is hidden when you send the project to iTunes, the command Send Song to iTunes appears in the menu. Choosing this command exports only the audio in AIFF format.

  • Optimizing Garage Band

I am trying to record 7 live instrument tracks through microphones and and interface with garage band (on a Macbook Pro), but the audio keeps cutting out around three minutes in. All the settings are as they should be, according to the garage band help document on optimizing garage band. What more can I do?

the bottleneck is likely the slow internal HD in the laptop. the solution is probably a 7200RPM HD in a FireWire case

  • Help please: I edited an 8 min song in Garage Band to 2 min but iMovie sees it still as 8 min????

I have a new MacBook Pro with Garage Band '11 and iMovie '11 that came with it.
I edited an 8 minute song into 2 minutes to use in iMovie BUT iMovie isn't reading the newer version of the song; it reads the original.  I tried renaming the file, remixing the song, and still iMovie plays it as the original 8 minute song.  In fact, four renamed versions of the song show up in iMovie under Garage Band and yet they are all the same.
Oh, I also made sure the little purple line was right at the end of my 2 minute sound track and not left where the original song was before I started cutting it.  Still, the same problem.
What am I doing wrong?  Any insights would be most helpful!  It's been about two years since I've used Garage Band - and even then I only used it about ten times -  so treat me like the rookie that I am, ok?
Thanking the Apple Support world-at-large in advance,
    GG

Anyway, Leonie, you did give me one little jeweled piece of information that confirmed what I vaguely remembered from the last time I was putting together videos - once the file is in iMovie, any changes I make outside of iMovie need to be imported back in once again.  That's why I instinctively kept renaming the files.  Thank you for that.... each little piece of info helps, no?
That is on of the irritating aspects of iLife application integration - one would expect, that changes do sync, but they don't.
I'm using version 10.01 andyou two are using the previous generation.
Actually, I am using both versions. I assumed from your first post, that you would be using iMovie '11, version 9.0.9 and not the current version 10.0 - you wrote:
Garage Band '11 and iMovie '11
The version numbering is not the best effort on Apple's part.
But you are right - version 10.0 is not yet as robust as iMovie '11 has been. For serious work I am still mainly using  iMovie '11; I am more or less only paying around with the new version 10.0 to explore it. Final Cut has not yet given me any trouble, but I only use it for effects that are not available in iMovie '11.

  • Since upgrading to Yosemite my iPhoto, iMovie and Garage band has simply disappeared from my Mac. HELP!?

Since upgrading to Yosemite my iPhoto, iMovie and Garage band has simply disappeared from my Mac. HELP!?

    Hi Jdireen,
As someone who uses the iLife applications on a daily basis on my Mac I can understand how it would be upsetting to have them disappear suddenly. Let's see if we can get you back up and running.
You can download the applications again and reinstall them from the Mac App Store -
    GarageBand - https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/garageband/id682658836?mt=12
    iMovie - https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/imovie/id408981434?mt=12
    iPhoto - https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/iphoto/id408981381?mt=12
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • The Apple Store recommended wiping and reloading software on my Mac Mini yesterday.  In the process I lost iMovie, iPhoto and Garage Band.  How can I get them back?

I took my Mac Mini to the Apple store yesterday since I was having trouble with difficult to read text.  They recommended wiping the drive and reloading it.  I lost iMovie, iPhoto and Garage band in the process.  How can I get them back.  The App store says they are already installed.

What I missed was that I needed to select "Purchased" rather than using the normal listing of items.  Once I went to the purchased list I could easily download the various software.
Thank you all for your help.

Hi vickkjayy11 and welcome to Apple Support Communities,
Just to be clear, we are a peer to peer support community and have nothing official to do with Apple.
So to your problem, when you say:
"I reset my macbook pro a few days ago"
What exactly happened? Did you have a Time Machine backup?
    Read this:
OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support
It would help to know the exact model (size and year) and which OS you're using.
