IMovie 08 doesn't work

Hi,
I can't manage to insert movie files into iMovie 08.
I'm talking about mpeg 2, mpeg 4 and encoded sorenson videos.
I have followed the instructions, installed iMovie HD 06 (which is the one able to open those files), saved those files into iMove HD files.
Now, iMovie 08 was supposed to open iMove DH files and it doesn't happen .... what do you think is going wrong?

Generally speaking, iMovie '08 only imports what it can edit. MPEG-2 and Sorenson files are not editable. MPEG-4 may or may not be editable if they are proprietary (e.g., Microsoft, DivX, 3ivX, etc.) or contain non-standard combinations of data/sampling rates and/or extraneous tracks (e.g., "Tween" tracks). And while iMovie HD will import and convert most such files, even it will not convert "muxed" content and retain the audio. As to importation of iMovie HD "files," to actually import the files as "files" using the "Import Movies..." option, you first must place them in a "visible" area of your hard drive. Otherwise use the "Import HD Project..." option to import content from their "hidden" project packages.

Assuming you have (1) signed out, then (2) waited 30 minutes and it didn't work you will need to contact iTunes again.

Imovie HD doesn't work anymore

On one of our iMacs we would like to work with the old iMovie HD, but after Apple came with newer versions, imovie HD does not work anymore. The only way to go back to the old system is to double click the old app, then open packet content and then iMovie HD opens in the terminal but it is impossible to work with it. And what's worse: old movies made in HD are gone. Many people must have had this problem, is there a solution? The Mac works under Yosemite.

Inside the Applications folder. Also, you can find it by going to Finder/Go/Utilities
I also don't know where to find the MIDI that you mention.

as far as AppleCare....do they check all the mundane stuff like MS before getting to the problem?
Never had a MS warranty. You paid for a warranty so you better use it if or when the time comes or lose it.

Xml export imovie 11 doesn't work

Can someone confirm that the export function to Final Cut XML doesn't work.
I simply doesn't make a file.
Example: Execute the export function and try to save it to the desktop. Result: No file on the desktop.
I wonder if someone else has the same experience.

IMovie 08 doesn't work with Canon camcorders?

I have a Canon MV890 that works fine with my iMac, Tiger and iMovie 06 but doesn't seem to work with 08 on my MacBook. I came here to post on it but find many other similar posts about not being able to import from Canon camcorders to 08.
Is there any specific reason why so many of us with different format Canon camcorders are having problems and is Apple likely to do something about it? I'm not going to buy a new camcorder just to use 08 obviously.

Your reply just prompted me to try something I thought of after the original post.
All 08 users can download and install 06 FOC (linked on the iMovie 08 page ISTR). Testing it I've found it is possible to import from the Canon to iMovie 06 HD on the MacBook and thereafter save and quit and open the project in 08. The process isn't fast as there's a lot of thumbnail generation to be done but at least its a way around the problem.
Why not install 06 on your iMac and import then open in 08? Let me know if it works for you too.

After a while, space-bar-preview in iMovie 11 doesn't work anymore

Hello there!
While editing some videos using iMovie 11 lately, I ran into a problem at some point, that I couldn't space-bar-preview the videos both in the project and in the database (the place you drag and drop the videos from onto the timeline).
I know there are a few threads on this already, but none of their tips helped! Can anybody tell me what worked for you or what you think could be the problem? The only way I was able to fix it was by restarting the computer, which takes roughly 7-10 minutes to get back to iMovie (it's a 27" iMac from 2011, it's really not as fast anymore as it used to be, but oh well)

Same problem for me on Windows 7, on iTunes 11 and now after updating to iTunes 12. Not very optimistic though seeing as there's apparently no solution after one whole year.

Export to Final Cut Express with iMovie 08 doesn't work?

When i export from iMovie 08 to final cut express using the XML function it exports and when I import into FCE4 it is only one big video with everything connected. I want it to be like separated so I can keep editing in FCE4.

IMovie Theater doesn't work with IOS 8.1 and OS X 10.10.1

I have filmed and edit a movie in my iPad Mini (using iOS 8.1). Then, I've sent it to Theater. When I go to my iMac (using Yosemite 10.10.1), in iMovie Theater, it does't appear. Same problem has occurred when I've uploaded the film to iCloud Drive. It didn't appear in Finder on my iMac.
I would appreciate any help.

I updated imovie, which is now totally different. I tried to import videos from iphotos, but the system is now stuck on "import" and it doesn't include iphotos. Clicking on "close" doesn't work. How do I get out of "import"?

I even tried deleting iMovie, bought a new copy and installed it, but the folder "iPhoto Videos" is still there and I can't get new clips loaded to iMovie, especially where I want them. Please help.

The iPhoto Videos do occasionally have problems. I've seen a lot of people write messages to this Discussion group describing similar problems. The only thing that seems to get around this problem is to pull the video clips out of iPhoto then import them directly into iMovie. Once the troubles with iPhoto Videos starts, I haven't yet seen anyone write back with something that they did to fix it.
The most difficult part of doing this is the movies in iPhoto might be a little difficult to track down. But you can create a smart alum that does that for you. Go to iPhoto > File Menu > New Smart Album:
Set the first pulldown menu to keyword, second to contains, then in the last box type Movie with a capital 'M'. Then click OK. This smart album more or less does as search of the whole iPhoto Library and only displays items that match your search tearm of "Movie" exactly. In that smart album then you can find the original Movies you want to move out of iPhoto and into iMovie, <CTRL> click on the Movie clip, then choose Reveal in Finder. That will jump you out of iPhoto temporarily and into the iPhoto Library folder. From there you can move that movie file to the desktop. Move all the clips you want, once they're all collected up go to iMovie and go to the File Menu > Import Files. Then point it to the desktop where you moved your video clips.
This will put all those videos into an Event folder in iMovie and bypass iPhoto Videos altogether.

IMovie doesn't work on my Macbook pro

Hi, I got my MacBook Pro 1 month and a half ago and when I got it, iMovie was working but I didn't use it yet. So, today I tried to open it but it doesn't work anymore. It seems like it's not installed, I searched for some folders and I don't find anything but a folder of plugins for iMovie. I also tried to download it but I'm not able to. I'd like to know if it's possible to get iMovie again? Thanks!

Your iMovie09 application should be found in your Applications folder. If it is there, but just 'not working anymore' you do not need to reinstall it.
You cannot download iMovie. It is part of the iLife 09 applications that must be purchased, or it came preloaded on your MacBook.
Try this:
Close iMovie
Go to your Home folder (the one with the house icon and your user name)
Within the Home folder locate the Library
Then Preferences
Then find the file. com.apple.imovie.plist (there may be a number, as imovie8)
Drag this plist file to the Trash. Don't worry. iMovie will create a new fresh preference file when you relaunch it.
Open iMovie and see if it works properly.
If not, post back for more assistance.

Once you have done this you need to ensure they are on the same WIFI network, If you have less than 50% power on the device then plug it into the mains.
You can then force the first sync in the settings>general>iTunes Wi-Fi Sync menu

PROBLEM SOLVED!
I went to my device manager on my Windows 7 PC and found the Bonjour service in my Services and Applications section. I set it to manual and BANG iTunes started working like it's supposed to.
Unfortunately, I let my IPad get stolen on 17 Jan so I'll probably wait until after April to replace it with an IPAD 2!

Preview of Ken Burns effect doesn't work with some pictures

I just recently installed a new graphics card (ATI Radeon 7500) on my Sawtooth, 1.2 GHz, so I could utilize the Ken Burns effect in imovie HD. It works but only partly. It works great but with some pictures the preview pane doesn't show the photo. What I see is a what looks like bad reception on an old TV (fuzzies and the picture is distorted so bad you can't even make it out). With other pictures the preview shows up fine. I'm sure I've loaded the drivers. What else can I do?

I am presenting the same problem. I can set the Ken Burns' effect while I am with the pictures before placing them in the Clip or Timeframe viewer. After placing them there, if I try to edit the picture (either by right clicking and choosing -edit picture or by control clicking and doing the same, I ended up with a black background. If you change the setting in this black ackground and update this changes they will be effective. So, you can change the slide duration, and everything in the sliders but without an image.
I was running System 10.3.9 and I thought this was the reason. Today, I went and bought Tiger but it didn't sove the problem. I do believe it is a bug in the program. According to Apple's Help and David Pogue's "The Missing Manual" this shouldn't happen.
