IMovie 08 Extremely slow or unresponsive
Well I thought giving iMovie 08 a little time to load would solve the issues. Unfortunately they don't.
It beach balls when it loads for about a minute to 3 minutes. Then it seems like it is ready to work but the minute I click on a clip it beach balls again and then you can't click on anything again for another minute. This is what happens with iMovie 08. It is not usable. I can't do anything with it. Most of the time it is unresponsive and beach balling. 7.1 update did absolutely nothing to help this issue either.
Apple please fix this as I loved iMovie HD as it worked very well. Now I have an iLife suite that I can't do anything with at all. Both iMovie 08 and iDVD 08 just beach ball all the time and are unusable!
None of the fixes that might normally take care of this work either. It's not my Mac, it's the poorly written program this time. Did anyone take the time to test it on other Macs other than the very latest ones?
I'm getting this problem too. For every action, there's a reaction… but in this case, the action is me clicking on ANYTHING, and the reaction is having to wait between 3 and 10 minutes for the spinning icons to stop.
I've seen a lot of complaints about this new iMovie compared to the last version, but I honestly really, really like the new interface. If some features are missing, I wasn't familiar enough with the old version to really miss them, and I don't think it's unrealistic to expect some Software Updates to possibly address some of that.
But none of that matters as long as this app remains this freakin' unusable. Something is definitely very, very wrong.

Adobe Reader extremely slow and unresponsive
Hi,
this is not a question, but a hint for people, who are using the Right Zoom extension by BlazingTools on a Mac. It (at least v. 1.7) doesn't seem to play well with Adobe Reader and this might also apply to Acrobat Pro. In my case Adobe Reader got really slow as soon as a document was opened. Every click on a menu item or button caused Adobe Reader to hang for several seconds. When I excluded the Reader from interacting with Right Zoom (via RZ-options), everything was fine again. You can disable many options that can possibly affect the performance of Adobe Reader; one example http://forums.adobe.com/message/5377721#5377721

IMovie '09 extremly slow to open
Program take 80mins plus to open while it scans iPhoto for new movies. iPhoto does contain over 50 videos with maybe 2 hrs of content. It also has 9500 pictures. Should I take the videos out of iPhoto?
iM09 on a G5..? Exotic ..
your iLife apps are located on top in your Home Directory on your 'MacOs' harddrive?
your internal harddrive offers at last a min. of 20GBs free disk space?
finally, you did allow iPhoto to 'index' all content? this process can, even on faster Macs, spend some time.. -
Anyone experiencing extremely slow downloads from Apple?
For the past 48hrs or so I've been unable to stream or download HD Video from iTunes store or iCloud on any of my devices, Apple TV's or Computers.
Netflix, Amazon Prime, and other HD Streaming services unaffected. Internet up and running 45Mbps connection, working great. only thing affected is content from Apple, specifically content purchased and on iCloud. iCloud account fine, Apple ID account fine. Can access Apple.com, iTunes Store, Apple Store, Communities, and content, however, streaming, downloads extremely slow, almost unresponsive....
Is anyone aware of any slowdown issues, servers down, or other issues affecting access to content?
You know because Apple is always so forthcoming on these issues!
So far Ive found no mention of any issues in any of the communities....
Thank You.Apparently Adobe is having server problems. Other users have reported problems today.
"The Digital Publishing Services Team is investigating reports of publishing failures. Teams are diligenty working on resolving the issue.", according to http://health.acrobat.com -
Computer suddenly extremely slow. Now grey screen.
Macbook Pro, OS X 10.6.8, purchased late 2009
Almost overnight, the computer became extremely slow when running apps. I tried multiple solutions -- verifying, repairing, etc. Yet as of now, its refusing to boot. Is there a way of restoring the system through time machine on an external HD on Mountain Lion? Does anyone strongly suspect (as I do) that this is the last gasp for the hard drive and a new one is in order? Or is the situation perhaps even more critical given the age of the machine? It booted just now after many attempts, but is still extremely slow and unresponsive.
Once again, please: any help with the matter would be immensely appreciated. Would putting in a new hard drive solve the issue? I read somewhere that moving your computer when it's running can cause the drive to get corrupted. And in fact, that is more-or-less when my problems began.
Or should i try restoring the computer first through the OS X DVD? -
I downloaded version 4 of Firefox this week and have been having problems since. Firefox is now extremely slow at loading all web sites. Trying to view PDF files from web sites crashes Firefox. I'm getting lots of unresponsive script messages. How can I fix this?

When connecting an external display to my Laptop and using the "Ctrl + Scroll" functionality for accessibility zooming, the display/graphics are extremely slow.
An estimate of FPS would be sub 1FPS. The machine becomes unresponsive and is unusable for a minute or so, until I can get it zoomed back out, and it begins responding normally.
This is very disruptive, as its a feature I use often.
The same laptop on OSX 10.9 did not exhibit this issue.
Hardware: MacBook Pro 13" Retina Mid 2014, 16GB Ram
Software: OSX Yosemite 10.10
System Information: http://cl.ly/image/0H1p032w0M0w
Reproduction steps:
1. Enable CTRL+SCROLL zoom functionality in System Preferences > Accessibility
2. Connect external monitor (Display port cable)
3. Hold CTRL and Scroll to zoom
4. System becomes slow, graphics slow, showing < 1 FPS without any other applications runningJust to note, I have the same problem....
When you use Thunderbolt display with 15" MB Pro late 2013, it zooms unreasonably slow.
But when you close the laptop display and only have the Thunderbolt display on, it zooms a bit faster, but still too slow for such a new laptop.
I think it could be optimised a bit better, something somewhere can be improved here.

Extremely slow and high latency all day.
DSL is running extremely slow during peak hours from 12 afternoon to 12 midnight. Lower than 50% of rated speed and high latency
I have been frustrated with this DSL Service for months now. I am considering contacting BBB to file a complaint and I am tired of dealing with customer service giving me the run around. Internet is a monopoly in my area therefore verizon feels it doesn't have to do anything to keep its customers when they provide crappy service. I am on waitlist for another internet service provider and it is going to take almost a year because of how bad the internet options are in the area and demand for better options. I even had to pay over 100 dollars to get a truck roll come to my house to fix any issues within the house and the internet has not gotten better. Atleast I feel I should get a refund or something.
Here is my speedtest result just now. http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/2899553407
It has been even slower at other times. http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/2893509440
Modem is Westell 6100 or something.

Here is what ICSI Netalyzer Results have stated.
Network Access Link Properties + –
Network performance (?): Latency: 580 ms, Loss: 15.5% –
The round-trip time (RTT) between your computer and our server is 580 ms, which is somewhat high. This may be due to a variety of factors, including distance between your computer and our server, a slow network link, or other network traffic.
We recorded a packet loss of 16%. This loss is very significant and will lead to serious performance problems. It could be due either to very high load on our servers due to a large number of visitors, or problems in your network. Of the packet loss, at least 14.0% of the packets appear to have been lost on the path from your computer to our servers.
TCP connection setup latency (?): 720ms –
The time it takes for your computer to set up a TCP connection with our server is 720 ms, which is quite high. This may be due to a variety of factors, including a significant distance between your computer and our server, a particularly slow or poor network link, or problems in your network.
Background measurement of network health (?): 3 transient outages, longest: 0.8 seconds –
During most of Netalyzr's execution, the client continuously measures the state of the network in the background, looking for short outages. During testing, the client observed 3 such outages. The longest outage lasted for 0.8 seconds. This suggests a general problem with the network where connectivity is intermittent. This loss might also cause some of Netalyzr's other tests to produce incorrect results.
Network bandwidth (?): Upload 700 Kbit/s, Download 2.3 Mbit/s +
Network buffer measurements (?): Uplink 5400 ms, Downlink 1200 ms –
We estimate your uplink as having 5400 ms of buffering. This is quite high, and you may experience substantial disruption to your network performance when performing interactive tasks such as web-surfing while simultaneously conducting large uploads. With such a buffer, real-time applications such as games or audio chat can work quite poorly when conducting large uploads at the same time.
We estimate your downlink as having 1200 ms of buffering. This is quite high, and you may experience substantial disruption to your network performance when performing interactive tasks such as web-surfing while simultaneously conducting large downloads. Your ISP's DNS server returns IP addresses even for domain names which should not resolve. Instead of an error, the DNS server returns an address of 199.101.28.20, which resolves to search.dnsassist.verizon.net. You can inspect the resulting HTML content here.
There are several possible explanations for this behavior. The most likely cause is that the ISP is attempting to profit from customer's typos by presenting advertisements in response to bad requests, but it could also be due to an error or misconfiguration in the DNS server.
The big problem with this behavior is that it can potentially break any network application which relies on DNS properly returning an error when a name does not exist.
The following lists your DNS server's behavior in more detail.
Please help. I am so frustrated I literally have fights with my family over internet problems. I am right now looking for other options and even starting to think about paying over 100 a month for dedicated line or T1 if they can service my area. Not a single response from Verizon on this? And after you posted the tests & information they will need? I think I may have to make a service choice soon. Its bad enough Verizon can't post a simple email address for our support, they have removed Usenet access, removed access to our websites (I use HTML so their sitebuilder is useless)... Sheeshe...

Windows 7 extremely slow after 60-90 minutes of use
My specs: Laptop is a HP Pavilion m6 Notebook PC
AMD A10-4600M APU with Radeon HD Graphics 2.30 GHz Processor
6 GB RAM and 64-bit Operating System
So the problem I'm having with my Windows is like after a hour to a hour and a half of operating time my Windows slows down to a slow pace. For example on start-up if I hit Start and type "calculator" I'll have my letters typed in real-time whereas
if I do the same say 80 minutes later it would give me the loading cursor and take about 5-10 seconds for the text to show up in the search box. I've already looked to see if my CPU and/or physical memory were the culprits yet they were both acting normally
(CPU at 2%-10% and Physical at 25-30%). When Windows would start acting up the video game I would be playing at the time (League of Legends or Sid Meier's Civ 5) would become unresponsive or extremely slow. What is even more strange to me is that even though
my Windows would be extremely slow my Google Chrome would be performing absolutely normal. For the meantime the only "duct tape" I have for this problem is restarting my laptop where I would get another 60-90 minutes of respectable operating time.
I need assistance, I'm at my wit's end and I have no idea what to do after trying to search the internet for my problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
TrevIn order to diagnose your problem you will need to download and install the below

MacBook Pro Extremely Slow / Sluggish
I have a MacBook Pro latest edition 13" with 2.66 processor 8GB RAM and 500GB HD. It has been extremely slow. Opening applications can take ages. Opening Pages can take 2 minutes to create a blank page and iMovie can be as long. The spinning beach ball appears when typing in Filemaker Pro and stops anything from happening for 30 seconds or so every now and then. Apps frequently go into (not responding). I went to the Apple Store Genius Bar and they said that there has been a problem with Migration Assistant (I have been migrating Macs for many years) and perhaps shifting some apps has made the system sludgy. Their suggestion is a complete wipe, restore and rebuild. Which I'm not much looking forward to doing. Does anyone have any other ideas.
Running Applejack might help in this situation. (Probably not necessary -- Applejack is quite safe -- but you should have a backup.) You probably want to run "applejack AUTO," which will do a full sequence of tasks. Then go back in and run "applejack" just for tasks 3 & 4 for your users. It may require several restarts for you to see the full benefits. The first restart will be slower than usual as it rebuilds caches.

IMovie '08 very slow performance on a MacBook Pro 2,33 Dual Core
I imported a 1 hour video clip today. Then I wanted to add 14 chapter marks. After 8 hours trying accomplish this simple task I gave up at chapter 6. It was extremely slow. I then did the same task in the previous version of iMovie in just 10 minuttes. Why is that?
I have the latest update on OS-X and iMovie '08 and all my other iLife '08 perform flawlessI agree/confirm. The new OS update made a significant improvement. I do not recall the settings I used. I just put everything to High and then reduced a few to medium until it ran smooth. I am pretty happy with gameplay now. My startup time is fair for me. It takes roughly 2 minutes for me to actually be in the game playing.
Im not sure if Apple intentionally set out to made this improvement as I read nothing about a video card update in the notice.
I wonder whatelse can be done to play this game at its full potiential on my X1600 MBP...I love to play this with my daughter. To play at all High settings would be jolly fun! lol -

I am having issues with my mac becoming extremely SLOW. I upgraded the RAM (Doubled it up) and it was working well for a while, but it’s now back to being extremely slow. I noticed the change when I upgraded to Mavericks. I’m still running Mavericks and haven’t upgraded to Yosemite yet.
What could be causing this to happen? SO slow and keep in mind I'm usually always multi-tasking when operating my laptop.
If you can offer any suggestions then please let me know!
Thanks in advance,
Mike

You need to spend some time removing files you no longer need. I'd suggest you reboot & connect an external HD, then slowy start copying files off this Mac. You need to take care because the Mac can run out of memory & put you into a 'must reboot now' situation, don't forget to delete files once they are copied off the system. Reboot to keep the memory usage to a minimum.
You need at least 20GB free at all times to allow the Mac some breathing room for temporary files & virtual memory storage. More free space is better, especially on spinning disks.
There are many tips on this site for removing old files & finding large files or folders
http://pondini.org/OSX/DiskSpace.html (and search this site).
These two can also help to find large files & folders.
http://grandperspectiv.sourceforge.net/
http://whatsizemac.com/
See Király's post for a way to make these apps search all folders (by default it will be limited by your permissions).
drive space not adding up - deleted user?
Don't forget that certain apps have their own 'trash' so open iPhoto, iMovie or any other app that has it's own trash & check the built in trash is empty, otherwise the items in the trash will be taking up disk space.
I'd also consider removing any of the system modifications you do not use, like Blackberry's software, Citrix, Toast's extensions. Otherwise check that the installed versions are up to date & compatible with the OS. http://roaringapps.com can indicate if other users are happy with these apps on your OS. -
Photoshop Elements 10 is extremely slow to start
Photoshop Elements 10 is extremely slow to start. It needs three minutes after starting before any sign of the program appears.
Then another three minutes passes before the program will respond to a mouse click.
While the program is in use, the display frequently freezes at seemingly random times and is unresponsive for a varying period of time.
It has always been this way since installation.
I read in the community forums that starting the Photoshop editor directly with a shortcut will bypass the start screen and eliminate the problem. Tried it--it does not.
I also in the community forums that the program is trying to connect with photoshop.com which no longer exits. The fix offered was to disconnect from the Internet. This is not acceptable.
I will not be upgrading to a newer version as a fix (as someone suggested) unless it is offered without additional cost.
Is there any sort of work around if not an actual fix for this problem?

With the Internet connected, Photoshop 10 needs better than 6 minutes to start up and be ready to use. Starting while disconnected from the Internet requires less than 10 seconds.
This is a work around, but it is not a fix. Temporary and unacceptable.
Uninstall, reinstall? Been there, done that, too many times.
I was hoping for something different that would either fix the problem or upgrade a faulty product for users who deserve better.
After the customer has purchased a product in good faith, what sort of business practice recommends that the user disable a product feature in order to use it?
