Imovie 08 has no video fx?

it appears to me that there are ZERO video special effects in imovie 08. Please someone tell me im wrong. ilife 06 was a great product. if you liked using the special effects for video in the imovie HD application, then ilife 08 is bound to dissapoint. if you used the slick imovie special effects plugins, which i felt were terrific, then you don't want to be in the same room as this product. as far as i can figure imovie 08 ***** big time.
(of couse i could be wrong and would appreciate some one telling me how i could access the video special effects men along with the many slick imovie special effects plug ins which worked so well for me)
thank you

I know there are work arounds to this but it is going to require working with iMovie 6 if you want all those effects (and I was shocked to see them gone) as well as the themes.
Apple these in iMovie 6 and share as a Quicktime Full Quality clip, then import these clips into iMovie 8.
You will have to move iMovie 6 out of the Applications folder to another location on the HD (I suggest you try creating a new folder, placing iMovie 6 in it and putting it in you User Applicaion folder). This way iMovie 8 should not update it.
In any event, I would use Carbon Copy Cloner before I tried
any attempt to run both versions. I'm looking for Chapters in iMovie 8, I do work with Final Cut but alwasys liked the ease of setting my Chapters in iMovie, I hope that isn't gone as well.

I'm making a DVD for our class reunion.  A fellow classmate has some video on a mini cassette that he said he could put on a dvd.  Will I be able to import from that dvd to imovie to use in my dvd?  Or does it have to be in another format, maybe flash drive?

Ask your friend to supply you the DVD as a data DVD using either DV or AIC as the video format, burning the DVD as a DVD for a DVD player will degrade the video quality.

  • IMovie HD - Trouble!  Video is skipping like it has too much information??

On my current iMovie HD project, the Video portion of the playback is skipping during the last song I am working on. It's almost like there is too much information during that song, but I have not added transitions, sound effects, etc to the clips.
I have tried deleting song and adding a different song, same problem. The other 30 minutes of the movie play perfectly.
Wowsers. Any help would sure be appreciated. Thanks.

Thank you Jason for responding so quickly.  I clear the auto-linking and do my own linking between tables.  As you said, "there's nothing smart about CR's smart links".
And I was referring to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 version 9.0.3073.  The problem I initially had was linking CR to the server.  Thankfully I had a lot of help from the linking forum that helped me with it.  I'm running Windows 7 and it appears the operating software has two ODBC one is 32 and the other 64. In the ODBC Data Source Administrator the user DSN is set to the SQL Server.
Back to this problem.  Trying to figure out the double item numbers and I have tested it with only that one particular table and did not link it to another.  I also have tried it with linking it to other tables to see if somehow that could put a restriction on the information.  The parameters really doesn't work here unless I'm setting it up incorrectly.  Nor does the Select Expert really do what I need it to do. The options I can choose from: Itemnumber:  is any value, is equal to, is not equal to, is one of... nothing gives me the option to say only choose the child if the child was purchased.  And I'm not advance enough to figure out a script to do it.
Per sales order (I have the report to group by the sale order number) I need it to list the correct item that was purchased by the customer.  The report pulls into the detail section of the report the parent and child item number when only the child item was ordered and not the parent.
I have a feeling you are correct in saying
Don thank you very much for the registry edit.  It has saved me a step in creating new reports.
    Thank you both again,
    Cindy W.

  • Imovie 09 How do I stop Imovie from auto importing video from iphoto

Imovie 09 How do I stop Imovie from auto importing video from iphoto.
Hi I've done a lot of searches on how to do this but no answers found.
Imovie is beginning to become really slow because of the large number of video's. It takes 3 minutes to startup. Editing is sometimes slow lot's of spinning beach balls e.t.c.
I would like to only import the video I want to edit and hopefully get a quicker Imovie in the process.
My Iphoto library is about 95 Gbyte in size.
My mac has 4 gb ram and I use the internal disk.
Any other ways to work with Imovie/Iphoto are also welcome.
    regards

I won't get iMovie 9 till Tuesday, but based on what you said I may need to take some precautions. One reason I didn't like iMovie 8 is because it automatically imported everything in iPhoto library. What I'm going to do is create a new iPhoto library before importing the photos/videos from the camera. Or if you already have it in your main iPhoto library copy only the photos you'll use in your iMovie 9 project to the new library. Then start iPhoto while pressing the option key which will allow you to select the new iPhoto library you have created. Then I suppose that when you start iMovie 9 it will automatically import only the photos/videos from the new library.

  • How to upload to Youtube a slideshow made with Keynote: it has separate video

I made my 1st slideshow with Keynote tonight, but when I exported it, or converted to a video, it was in 2 pieces!  A video and a audio file.  I wanted to upload it to Youtube, and I don't know how to do it.  Youtube has a "Video Editor" but I couldn't get it to work.  I wish Keynote would export like iPhoto and produce a video that has the sound included (but iPhoto isn't so good for including text).  Do I have to put Keynote slideshows into iMovie to add sound?

    Hey blckhed,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. You can easily get your slideshow to YouTube. The following article will assist you in the process.

It's not like playing a tape. It has to convert it from whatever format you currently have into a codec suitable for editing (Apple Intermediate). This will take longer or shorter depending how compressed your original format is, and on the ability of your CPUs to catch up.

  • I received a message on my iPhone 4 that has a video attached to it. I "saved video" but don't know where. How do I find it and send it to mi MacBook Air?

I received a message on my iPhone 4 that has a video attached to it. I "saved video" but don't know where. How do I find it and send it to mi MacBook Air?

It would have saved to your camera roll.  Connect the phone to your Air via a USB cable and then run Image Capture which is located either in your Utilities folder or Other folder, depending on what version of Mac OS X your are running.  You will then see all the photos and videos stored on your iPhone and can then download them.

  • I'm thinking of using Final Cut Pro to straighten slightly crooked footage and then re-import back to iMovie to complete the video. Does this have any impact on image quality?

As your rotate the image, you will begin to see black edges. So, as Tom implies, the image must be scaled up to hide those voids. If you shot 4k ad are editing in a HD timeline, no problem, lots of room to spare. If you shot 1080 and are editing in a 1080 timeline, you will run into issues at a certain point. However, if your 1080 project is going to be transcoded to 720 or ye olde DVD you won't notice any deterioration at all.

  • Just bought Apple TV. Our Hi Def TV only has S Video or RCA outlets. Can we use the Apple TV?

Just bought Apple TV. Our high def tv only has S Video or RCA connectors. Can we use the Apple TV? Thanks

Apple TV only supports HDMI. It doesn't sound like it is an HDTV, even if you use an adapter there is no guarantee it would work and even then you would not be able to watch HDCP content (i.e. iTunes, Netflix etc).
If the TV is not widescreen and/or doesn't support at least 720P you will also have issues around that.

  • Does iMovie support Sony MicroMV video format?

    Hi, there
I have one Sony MicroMV HandyCam (Model No. DCR-IP55E) and try to use iMovie to import the video from it. iMovie can recognize this machine (It shows the correct name and format for it!). But it can not import the video. As iMovie only recognize DV or mepg-4 format, what should I do now? Please kindly advice.
    Thanks,
    David

Sony videocams are very popular in the market and
this videocam is very compact and with many
attractive features, like bluetooth and internet
    access.
I've been covering the photo industry as a journalist for over 14 years and frequently deal with Sony. I never said they don't make some good products, but that they always do things their own way and have NEVER made much of an effort to support the Mac community.
It is very sad that as a new Mac user, it
seems like I have to use the PC to import the clips
and then use Mac to do the editing. So is it possible
that Mac new Operating system will provide certain
software or driver for SONY MicroMV videocam in the
    near future?
I certainly doubt it based on past experience. BTW, it's up to Sony to supply the necessary drivers to make things work on a Mac (or some third party) - Apple doesn't do this. Since Sony sells PC format computers, they don't seem to have any reason to do so.
I suppose you could buy a new Intel Mac and also install Windows - then you could use the Sony supplied software to get the video into your computer.
There are plenty of great camera choices that DO work with the Mac.

Premiere CS6 won't import mov files, the message: "file has no video or audio streams" shows up instead. How can I import the files?

MOV is a wrapper that can contain many different codecs. The message you get is indicative of a distribution codec inside the MOV wrapper. You may need to convert the material to an editable codec before importing.

  • Just want iMovie to "Forget" iPhoto videos

Is there a way to make iMovie "Not list" all video clips from iPhoto inside iMovie 11? I have thousands of videos that load upon startup and they are all mistagged with the wrong date several cameras ago (Typically Jan 1903). I really just want iMovie to use events I import or drag inside. Can this be done or is there an easier way than date change hundreds of videos which seem to be tagged correctly in iPhoto?
    //Cheers

I'd like to know this too as it's really quite annoying.
You'll probably find it's one of those 'usefull features' they have introduced in '11.
I can't understand why they do this sort of thing & not give you an option to switch it off.
It's like Faces in iPhoto, chews up memory & time everytime you import photos even if you don't use it.
