IMovie 08 Missing Buttons & Blank Space on Screen
Hello,
Sorry if this topic has been discussed in another post but I couldn't find it.
I have been using iMovie08 for a few months now and everything has been working fine.
This week I noticed that when I started the application all the buttons in the middle of the window were gone (voice over record, titles, audio edit, and the media buttons to the right) and all that is left is a blank space.
Then to the top left where I have my Projects, I am only seeing two of the ten projects I have created (The actual names of the project).
The weird thing is I can click on the empty window where my missing project names should be, it loads in the viewer, only very slow, but it plays alright, I just can't see the name in the project window.
So as a result of not seeing the other buttons for editing, only empty space, I can't edit my projects.
It also will freeze if I try and click around too much, and I have to force quit.
I trashed the application, reinstalled it and nothing changed.
I was thinking it was a problem with a quicktime file or something that might be on my desktop, so I cleaned all that off, but it didn't help.
iMovie 08 was working great and I was pretty happy with it until now. The only new application I have recently installed is Firefox 3 Beta, unless that causes a problem, I don't think that it would but you never know.
If anyone else has had the same problem, I would really appreciate any help I can get.

Do you use an external firewire drive? If the connection to the drive is not working, it could cause a hang like this. The solution might be to eject the external drive, if you can, turn off the computer, disconnect the firewire. Disconnect the power to the external drive. Then hook everything up again in reverse order and reboot.
This could also happen if you are in the middle of a time machine backup or a spotlight indexing or an antivirus scan.
Also, has anything changed with iPhoto? On startup, iMovie will try to scan the iPhoto library for new videos, and it can hang here.
Also, this could be a symptom of fragmented virtual memory, but a simple reboot would cure this.

Hi.
Blank space appears above address bar in full screen mode when I bookmark specific web page for the first time after FF start. Only way to hide this space is View->Toolbars->Customize->Done. But it appears each time after FF restarts. Disabling all addons does not help. This problem disappears only in FF safe mode.

Camera button on the lock screen missing
I've successfully updated to IOs5, but I'm missing the camerca button on the lock screen. I have a 4. Anyone else?

but it's not on the basic home screen, it appears when you double click the home button while on the lock screen. -
Pages and Numbers will not take dictation in iOS 8 on my iPad 4 and iPad mini.
Very frustrating -screen goes blank where keyboard should be when I touch the microphone- no keypad & dictation does not record. I have to close the document In order to get rid of the big blank space where the keyboard should be. When is this going to be fixed?it's making recordkeeping Pages and Numbers, which I use heavily, almost impossible.

Hello,
I have an smartform who recibes a table of char255 lines. The only thing I do is a loop over it and show each line.
My problem is I have some lines with a lot of blank spaces (for example"01 7,50 10,30") and on the screen those spaces doesn´t fill the same space each char so it get shown with bad format.
Do you know why is this happening??

Edited by: Alvaro Tejada Galindo on Dec 17, 2009 11:43 AMYou may display the OTF spool in RAW mode so that to make sure that the COURIER font has been used (because it might have been automatically replaced by SAP, if your device type does not allow COURIER, see SE73 printer fonts and also "Font conversion" button which converts all existing system fonts).
Moreover, if you use SAPWIN, SAPlpd program may have a replacement font defined for Courier, run saplpd.exe manually and check this option. -
Embedded videos show up as blank spaces
All embedded flash videos show up as blank spaces, audio still plays and I can still click it as if the video was there but I can't see it.
Tried all of the supposed "fixes"
-Cleared cache and cookies
-Started in safe mode
-Disabled addon
-Fresh install of firefox
-Fresh install of flash
-Turned off hardware acceleration
Absolutely none of them helped at allThanks but that doesn't help at all and is marginally relevant. All plugins are enabled. Audio still plays and I can still use the buttons on the video player but the video is a blank screen.

Hi,
Whenever I try to make a title in iMovie (6.0.3) it works (although they are all a little fuzzy), but iMovie adds on the same amount of time used in the title to the end of the clip as blank space.
For example, if I make a 5-second long title, the clip is 10 seconds: 5 seconds of the title followed by 5 seconds of blank, black screen.
Is there anything I can do to solve this?

I got my iMac in december of 2007, and I havent had any major problems with it until 2 days ago. I was working on a project, and I downloaded a font (which is the only think i can target it to) and when i tried to use the font, my iMac froze. I waited a very long time, tried to force quit, and nothing was working. I decided to press the power button, and when i tried to turn it back on, I could only get as far as the blue screen with the apple symbol , and then i got the circle with the line through it. I tried ******** it down via the power button a few times after that, and at some point i couldnt even get to the apple symbol. I tried some of the suggestions in my Everything Mac book, and none of them worked until I did an apple hardware test. That showed that there was no problems, and soon after, it started up again. The only thing is, now there are blank spaces on my dock where some of my applications used to be..... but i can still access them by pressing their blank spaces. alone with 3 of my applications acting this way, my trash can and my dashboard is doing the same thing. (where dashboard was, there is a piece of the white square that the whole dock rest on that appears to be 'cut out')
Im afraid that this might be a software problem with the operating system, and that I may have to backup my 70G of files and reinstall.
Please help me understand what has happened, what is going on, and what my options are. I hope to god i wont have to pay someone to fix this for me, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.This MAY have been prevented by doing these steps prior to any update, but try them now...
Boot from the Install CD/DVD then after you choose your language, a Menubar will show up top, find Disk Utility and run it from there.
Verify & Repair if necessary first, then Permissions.
Using Disk Utility in Mac OS X 10.4.3 or later to verify or repair disks...

Where's my missing hard drive space?
I posted earlier about this, it may be a bit off topic but if anyone can offer a clue, I would appreciate it.
I got my win 7 upgrade and was waiting until vista started giving me headaches or the win7 service pack1 came out to upgrade...vista got me to upgrade today and I have to admit it was much less painful than i anticipated.
My question is about the missing hard drive space on my Idea center K230 on the box and on the side of the comp it claims a 640 HD (it claims in small print that up to 18gb may be used for the service partition) I questioned this when i first got it and even after deleting all the preloaded crap it was still saying 540 available out of 580GB....then I read that Lenovo has a huge partition for backup. So when I do my upgrade to win 7- 64 bit, I do a clean install and delete the smaller partition and reformat and expand the larger but before installing the new OS it says I have 596 available, so where the hell is the other 44GB of hard drive...did Lenovo rip us off and put 600GB hard drives in the K230's or is there a hidden partition still left that I cant find?
I am running everything off of my 596GB C: drive, I have my virus stuff and video card extras loaded, everything from the upgrade and 21 available patches and new drivers for most of my stuff....right now I am at at 575gb available and if i can ever find a printer driver that works I will create a backup point or disc from there, whatever win 7 allows. I never wanted the Lenovo one button back up and thought it was stupid to put a big glowing button on the keyboard that wipes your system back to when it came out of the box...I had nightmares of someone getting curious and going "what does this button do?"
.I notice I have a program files folder and a program files (x86) folder with a bunch of redundant files. what's the deal with this is Lenovo still hiding a backup program (maybe in that hidden partition?) that fills my hard drive twice as fast or is there a purpose for the file copies?
Any info on the above questions would be appreciated, and for those of you just looking for upgrade info I have good news, when you finally get your win7 upgrade disc it is the easiest windows installation ever, almost copmpletely automated, and very fast. So far the only sticking point is finding a printer driver, but I have 3 printers i can try, maybe one is supported.Hi wise2u!
You can read all the details about how storage manufacturers use multiples of 1000 to measure disk space, and Windows reports it in multiples of 1024, and there is some overhead for Windows, or you can just use this rule of thumb from wikipedia:
A general rule of thumb to quickly convert the manufacturer's hard disk capacity to the standard Microsoft Windows formatted capacity is 0.93*capacity of HDD from manufacturer for HDDs less than a terabyte and 0.91*capacity of HDD from manufacturer for HDDs equal to or greater than 1 terabyte.
0.93 * 640GB = 595GB, which is about what you're seeing.

I have a few problems...
I wanted to make a partition to install windows, I tried to use bootcamp 5 where it wanted to partition and install windows at the same time. I do not have a cd of windows but instead had it on a flash drive. Bootcamp couldn't find it. Instead I was reading forums and found that there was another way to install windows by partioning your harddrive using the disk utility, downloading the bootcamp drivers, and installing rEFIt (an app that when starting the compouter a menu would come up to boot windows from the flashdrive). I try that and the windows install screen gets me to the point where I pick a partition. I attempt to pick the partitioned drive but a message comes up telling me that "this is of the GPT partition style" and windows cannot be installed on the drive.
So now I went back to disk utility and deleted the partition but there is still blank space. I wanted to retry and install windows through bootcamp (somehow) but a message comes up that there cannot be any partitions or that a partition must be created using bootcamp. SO i keep trying to drag the partition over the blank space and hit apply but nothing happens.
By the way I was trying to install windows 8 pro, some forums would say that you cant install win8 however I found others that said you could. How do I fix my partition and how do I use bootcamp to install windows (preferrably 8)?Csound1 What Ive been trying to explain is that I have been running bootcamp, I open the app where the first screen is the introduction, i hit continue, the first time I select "download the latest windows support software fromm Apple" then I return and instead select "Install Windows 7." Then hit continue. The third screen is where I "Create a Partition for Windows" I set Windows to 80 gigs then hit INSTALL. As stated before Bootcamp cannot find the install drivers saying "The installer disc could not be found." My windows software is on a USB drive not a disc, I tried using a virtual disc reader to make it appear that the windows software was running on a disc, still no luck. What I would like to know is how to install windows on bootcamp.

How do I get rid of the blank space at the bottom of the new Firefox menu?
The new firefox 4 has a different menu system. IT has blank space at the bottom wiht just a plus sign that opens new tabs. I can get that from the + sign by the tabs and don't want it or the rest of the blank space on the bar. I need all the space in the main window I can get. How do I get rid of this?

These are unrelated questions/statements.
Space before and space after a paragraph are controled in the Text Inspector, as you've found out.
Pages will create a page break whenever there is no room for another line on the page. That break can come anywhere in a paragraph.
You may be thinking of Widow and Orphan prevention, and the other Pagination controls, found under the More button in the Text Inspector. (If that's what you found, then thanks for the refresher! I hadn't been to that pane for awhile, and had forgotten the variety of pagination controls available.

After logging in, theres just a blank white backlit screen and I cannot go further. It also has been showing on the screen
that the startup disk is full. I already tried diagnostics and it says hardware is fine.You will have to erase your drive because it has a corrupted directory resulting from allowing the drive to become full.
Install or Reinstall OS X from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless. -

I've been battling this problem for several versions of Mac OS X, Aperture and iPhoto.
No matter which screen saver I use, if I display photos from my Aperture or iPhoto library, many of the pictures do not display. I see blank spaces where there should be photos, like this:
Notice the big black spots? Those are "photos."
I've done all the troubleshooting I can, but cannot find any pattern for photos which do or don't display. No difference in file format, ACLs, extended attributes, folder permissions, RGB profiles... nothing is consistent.
What I do find, however, is a log that fills up with these messages when the screen saver engine starts up (even if only in System Preferences):

Occasionally, this:

but mostly the former.
Rebuilding the library hasn't done anything. No sense in suggesting that I use Disk Utility to repair permissions, either. (Remember, that doesn't affect anything in home folders.) I even tried deleting the prefs file for the screen saver engine. No dice.
Suggestions, anyone?

Deleted audio segment leaves blank space that I can't remove
I had a 5 min song and after adding pictures for a slide show, I found I only needed 2:30 of the audio clip so I split it at the end and deleted the unwanted end segment of the song. However, there is now a blank space for 2:30 left!
I went to clip mode like some suggested in previous similar questions, but there is "no black clip" to select and delete.
How can I "shrink" or reduce the original movie length now that I've shortened it by removing the end part of the audio?
Thanks!I have experienced the same thing. It used to be thought that a stray audio clip had relocated to further out on the audio track, but I never found one. Usually, the movie reverted back to end where the 'good' audio or video clip ended.
However, I highly endorse what Bengt recommended re: exporting your movie to Full Quality QuickTime.
I do that and then put the quicktime movie into a new iMovie project and check the end of it. Sometimes there will be several seconds of 'snow' as seen on tv in the old days when stations went off the air at 1am. You can cut out this excess and have your movie end where it is supposed to. Just use this qt version to upload or import into iDVD. -
