Imovie 08 unable to publish (error 108)

I'm very new to the Apple arena. I've created a movie that's 2hrs and 50 minutes long and when trying to share it I keep getting the error code 108, unable to publish. Does anyone happen to know what this code is or how to fix it? Is this something to do with the length of the movie ? If so, what's the maximum length possible ?

You would need to split this into at least 2 (and maybe 3) movies to fit on 2 (or 3) DVDs.
I assume you are using DVD. This is really too long to stream over the internet.
To split your movie:
You can right click on the Project Name and select Duplicate. This will give you a duplicate of your movie. You can keep half and delete the other half.
Another question is "Why is the movie this long?"
If it is really a series of shorter home movies, you will have much better results making them individually and then putting them into iDVD as separate menu items.
If it is a theatrical movie, you would be better off using a professional editor like Final Cut Studio or Final Cut Express.

  • IMovie -crushing and  Unable to Publish Error -50

    Hello Dear Helpful People!
I have a problem with iMovie 11. It all worked fine until I today. I had problems opening the program,
then I had problems with the preview. All problems I hadn't had 2 month ago.
When I finally finished my project and wanted to export it, or publish it this error is coming:
The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (-50)
    Can someone please help me?
I screened the forum for similar problems and all the solutions there couldn't help me.
I have 430 GB free Space, I located the Sharing Folder and set all permissions to Read&Write.
    This is so frustrating!
I would be forever thankful if someone got an idea for me...
    Thank you all so much,

I fixed the problem.. but it was very, very strange. I had a very long section for credits and set the line spacing to 1.0.. for some reason this caused it. I removed it, and it worked fine. I put it back, and I couldn't preview or play the video.
I don't know why that could cause that big of a problem, but it did..

  • IMovie '09: Export to Quicktime: Error -108

I've been trying to export a movie - just over an hour long, primarily photos - to Quicktime. I was using the Apple Codec now I'm trying the MPEG-4 setting, with the HD 190X1080 16:9 size and 48,000KHz audio.
Every single time I try I get the "error code -108" message - not enough RAM. However I'm using a 24" iMac with 4GB.
I have NO ideas what-so-ever can some please point me in the right direction?
I'm running Snow Leopard - I've restarted the machine, repaired the permissions, the only thing I can imagine it's related to is that some of the material (music) is running off of an external hard-drive. Please? Some one help!

I would suggest trying it at 960x540. That will cut down the size by a factor of 4 and may let it fit in the RAM. This size upscales very nicely on most TVs because it is a simple transform to go to 1920x1080.
If that does not work, you may need to split your movie into shorter pieces.
What is your final destination? BluRay?

  • Unable to publish to .mac - RSS file corruption problems?

Help, I'm using iWeb 1.1.2, and when I publish I get an unable to publish error. I try the rec'd "Publish All" option to no avail. Then, when scanned files on my idisk, I discovered that some of my rss files, while they are identified as "rss.xml" by name, they are described as a PBEM Game File. Initially, when I clicked on the rss.xml file it opened a silly suite of games tat cam eon my Mac. So, I associated the file with Safari rather than the Big Bang Game program. This changed the file kind to xml. However, when I tried publishing again, it converted the file back to a Game File?
Any way to get those RSS files to go up to my iDisk as xml and not the game files? And, how did they get associated withteh game anyway?

  • I keep getting the following error message while sharing my iMovie to iDVD.  "Unable to prepare project for publishing"  error (-2125).

I keep getting the following error message while sharing my iMovie to iDVD.  "Unable to prepare project for publishing"  error (-2125).  I'm running iMovie 09 v. 8.0.6 on a iMac with OSX v 10.6.8, 2Ghz core duo, 1GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM.  Any ideas why?

That particular error comes up for a number of reasons, sometimes it's the size of the movie you're trying to export. Bengt Wärleby a longtime contributor to the iMovie Discussion Group has advised a number of people on this error code, so I am going to link to his latest advice he's given to anyone trying to export to DVD from iMovie: Bengt's tips for great DVDs.
Specifically, try bypassing Share to iDVD by using Share to Media Browser instead.
In the Share to Media Browser dialog box choose the Large Size.
When(If?) it gets through that process, quit iMovie altogehter then go to iDVD.
Create a new project and click on the Media button near the lower right hand side of the Project Window.
Then click the Movies button in the Browser window just above that.
Under the iMovie star icon you should see the name of the project you shared out from iMovie.
Drag that into the project and burn the DVD.
If it's still to large or you get the same -2125 error code trying to Share using the Medium size instead. But again if you really get stuck consult Bengt Warleby's User tips:

  • IMovie '09 "Unable to Prepare Project for Publishing" error (-2009)

Please help ! I have just created a small movie in iMovie '09 from imported clips from Sony Handycam with miniDV tapes. All clips imported easily and can be viewed and edited. Though when I try to share the project to iTunes or even export it to my desktop I get the message "Unable to prepare the project for publishing" error (-2009).
I have been searching the forum and the web for an answer or quick fix and I see none, though i do see that many people are having this same issue. I already have all permission set to read & write on all the appropriate folders. I don't know what else to do.....I was hoping to have this project done for a Christmas present for my wife.
    Please help .... ! ! !

I think I know what was the problem in my case. My project-file wasn´t very large, but I imported all my movies in one single event. After splitting the movies up into different events, I was able to export my project....

  • Unable to Publish Project - Error Code -108

I am trying to publish a project (photos only) that is just a little over 1 hour long. About 75% of the way through I get the -108 error. An error code search indicates "error -108 iMemFullErr or memFullErr: Not enough room in heap zone" .....but I have 14gb RAM and a free 1TB hard drive. Any ideas?

I experienced this error code when I was trying to export a movie using the QuickTime option and H.264 format.
Tried a slew of different video settings without success (meaning after a few minutes of trying to export, iMovie would give me error code -108.
Then, I started suspecting the audio format. So, first I exported the movie without the audio tracks and it completed successfully. Then, I tried exporting with the AAC audio encoder instead of the default Linear PCM option, and it, too, successfully exported the movie, with audio.
So, try a different audio format output for your publication.

  • IMovie 08  v 7.1.1 - Can't export - Error -108 - Help Please!

    Please can anyone help?
I'm a new Mac user and have just imported and edited my first iMovie. I tried to export it (assuming I could then burn it to a DVD?) but never got that far.
I'm attempting to export it as a 'large movie' to Finder.
I get an error telling me it has been 'unable to prepare the movie for publishing due to an error (error code -108)'
Please has anyone got any ideas if I'm doing something wrong?
    Thanks!
    D

Looking up error -108, I got a lot of hits on goggle about memory errors returning error -108.
On this hunch, I simply rebooted my Mac Pro.
I opened iMovie 7.1.1, and exported the same file, no problem.
So it must be a memory leak or some sort of memory related issue. (I have 4 gigs of ram in my machine.

  • IMovie 08 Share-iDVD error -108 *Help Quick!!

I am really in a pickle! I spent upwards of 48 hours creating a slideshow of still pictures in iMovie for my wedding in 2 weeks. This is my first time using either iMovie or iDVD. I had no luck getting iDVD to customize the slideshow as I wanted it to look, so a friend suggested iMovie. My project is now finished and I am attempting to burn it to a DVD for my DJs to play. When I do Share> iDVD, it processes the project for about 2 minutes then says it was "unable to prepare the project due to an error (-108)."
    Can anyone help PLEASE!!
    THANKS!

    Hi
    a. Isn't it so that You in Share select Media Browser. Then in iDVD import from here.
    b. iMovie'08 & 09 are not the optimal tools for DVD making. Due to that they discard every second line
in interlaced video to DVD resulting in less sharp picture.
    I use
    • iMovie HD6, FotoMagico™, FinalCut Express or FinalCut Pro - to get best possibly result.

  • Help! Error (-108) in iMovie and crashing a lot

I have a 60 second video that I am trying to publish.  It will save about 3/4 then I get an error (-108) message.  Also, my imovie crashes A LOT.  I'm working on another 3 minute project, and it crashes after trying to modify some clips.
    What's the solution?

    Hi,
You can try this: Premiere Pro CC, CC 2014, or 2014.1 freezing on startup or crashing while working (Mac OS X 10.9, and later)
    Hope this helps.

  • Unable to prepare for publishing - error

After 6 hours of exporting movie from iMovie 9 - why do I get the message:  "unable to prepare for publishing - error"?  I was going to use a DVD-RDL disc to burn.

Hi Bengt.  Thanks for getting back to me.  I found out what I did wrong. Apparently you can't share without starting a new "Project".  I had simply dragged my clips into the project library, and after editing, had gone to "Share" >>>> Export Movie.  Wish it had notified me what I was doing wrong instead of going through 6 or more hrs, and even then it didn't let me know my mistake.  I finally figured it out myself.  Thanks again.

  • Unable to prepare for publishing error -2125

In Imovie when trying to burn a dvd to idvd... I get Unable to prepare for publishing error -2125.  Can you help please?

The thumb drive is probably formatted as FAT32 (most USB flash drives are formatted as FAT32). There is a 4GB file size limit with any drives formatted as FAT32. Try reformatting the thumb drive as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) using the Mac app Disk Utility (it comes with the OS and should be in the Utilities folder).
Also, are you sure that the 32GB drive is enough space for your exported movie? Try exporting it to your internal drive, or an external portable drive formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Then copy it to the thumb drive, provided that the exported file will fit on it.
Otherwise, you will need to follow Karsten's advice to duplicate the project one or more times, then delete portions from each duplicate so that you end up with a number of separate projects, each with their individual content. Then export each project separately.
To duplicate a project, while in Project Library view (where all your projects are listed), select File > Duplicate Project. Alternatively, right-click (or Control-click) on the project in the Library and select Duplicate Project from the pop-up menu.
If you need assistance with reformatting the thumb drive, please ask.

  • IMovie Publishing Problem (-108)

I tried to publish a 40 minute long movie to iTunes in Small, Medium and Large, and after about 4 hours it said: "Unable to prepare project for publishing. The project could not be prepared for publishing because and error occurred. (-108)" After that I tried to simply export it to my Desktop in HD and after 2 hours it said the same thing. How do I export or publish my movie either to my desktop or to iTunes? Or what is the meaning of error -108?

    Hi There,
Can you tell me the Operating System and Captivate version you are using?
Also can you confirm if you are getting this issue will this one project or all the projects? Try to copy paste this project on a new blank project and then try to publish.

  • I am unable to share or export out my movie.  I keep getting an publishing error 49?

I am using a mack book pro and imovie 11.  I am trying to share/export the file out to my desktop.  The video clip is being shared for an hour or so and when I get down to a minute left, It says there was a publishing error (-49).  Can anyone help!

We purchased the year access tech support so I actually did call and his suggestion was to check out the AP store for CD/DVD burners (Which is how I acquired the "MyLife" to try.) or come to an Apple Support Forum like..... here!  LOL!!!  (I was probably directed to a "tech" person.  Not an "application" person perhaps.)
    I'll try again I guess.
