IMovie '08 - Video fade in

How can I get a fade in overlayed on my video clip? I tried the 'fade through black' transition, but the fading occurs prior to the video clip, and I want to fade in over the video clip.
Thanks.

When I opened the duration box, it said 00:15, so I assumed that was 15 seconds.
Time is in the format "SS:FF" where "SS" are seconds and "FF" are frames. Thus, an NTSC 29.97 project would only have "FF" values from 00 through 29. When you entered "30" it was an invalid entry (i.e., 30 frames would be entered as "01:00" or simply one second.
Another thing to be aware of when setting durations for transitions is to remember that their max duration can only be as great as the "whole integer" half duration of the shortest clip to which it is added. (I.e., iMovie '08 won't let you create a transition the ends up longer than the number of frames left in the clip after the transition is added.) For some reason, this relationship seems to mystify many users.

Hi jt - Alex was actually referring to video clips in iPhoto not appearing in the item "iPhoto Videos" in the Events Library in iMovie - thanks for your post though (the 2 words are very similar).

  • IMovie optimized video on windows

    Hello,
A friend of mine had video that he imported from his camera on iMovie on his mac. He then gave the files to me to edit. I edit video with Adobe Premier CS4. When I began working on the video, I could not view the video. All I get when I open the video files in any media player, including quicktime, I only get the audio. Quicktime tells me that I am missing a codec or something, then takes me to a web page with a list of codecs, none of which seem to suite my problem. Is there a way for me to get these iMove optimized videos to work on my PC?
    Other information:
    The video files are .mov
I have tried using Media Player Classic, Windows Media Player, Quicktime, VLC, Magic Video Converter, Aimersoft video converter, and Adobe Premier CS4 to view the video. All gave the same main result, Audio but no video. Some gave errors about the video format or about codecs.
My computer is running Windows 7 64-bit

Try MPEG Streamclip, which is free and converts a huge range of video types. If that doesn't work, then you'll have to convert the file on a Mac

I am importing a video and in iMovie the video is now white. the audio still plays and I can play the video properly outside of iMovie so any help is good?

I going to recommend again, downloading and installing some video helper applications.
    1. http://perian.org/ (this will add a number of different file types to the ones QuickTime already plays)
    2. http://www.divx.com/en/software/mac (will add more file types to what QuickTime can play)
Either one of these might be necessary to get MPEG Streamclip to export the video. Failing that the only other thing I have found is an obscurve discussion thread on Avid.com:
    http://duc.avid.com/archive/index.php/t-277791.html
I've figured out what the problem is on my end. The video came from Avid on a Windows machine and was encoded with Squeeze. I found out that the 2 seconds of black at the top of the video were at a different frame rate than the rest of the video. I chopped off the 2 seconds of black and started at the first frame of video, exported it with Quicktime Pro and was able successfully view the video in ProTools. Apparently Squeeze will let you create a movie file that has different frame rates within the same movie... This fixed my issue that was exactly as you describe, hopefully it might work for you.
Lastly, you could try converting the video clip using HandBrake

If you're asking if you can import video fror the iOS Videos app to iOS iMovie, the answer is no. You can only import what is in the camera roll.

  • Playing movies: Video fades to black for a second every 5 minutes

I have a problem with front-row: with some avi movies, video fades to black and back every ~5 minutes; audio is played normally without any interruption. I have perian 1.1 installed and the movie has no subtitle. 5 minutes is exactly the display sleep time: is that a coincidence or something is wrong with front-row disabling sleep timer ?
    thanks
    cheers

I have this same exact problem. I have a newer Intel Mac Mini 2.2gh with dvi/hdmi out to external hdtv. At exactly 5 minutes on some .avi or .mkv movies, I love video but still get audio. I always thought it was just me except that it drove me so crazy today that I decided to look for a solution.
The video files themselves play fine in quicktime and/or VLC. It just ***** that Front Row stops playing them. It even happens when I fast forward.
As a side or possibly related note, has anyone else experienced stuttering in Front Row on large files? More importantly, does someone have a solution to the missing video in Front Row.

  • Video Fade out not audio

I'm trying to make the video fade out while the music continues to the end. I also want to fade in with the video while the music is playing.

Of course they do. At least in Expert view. Have you toggled open the tracks so that they're not in collapsed view?

  • Can I make iMovie theatre videos appear in my macs iCloud folder?

    Hi -
is it possible to make my iMovie theatre videos appear in my macs iCloud folder?  Also, is there any way of doing this on iOS? I don't particularly need iMovie on my phone but would like to be able to access my movies
    thanks!

    Hey there Nickholl,
It sounds like you want to know how to share iMovie Theater videos between your devices with iCloud Drive. The article below provides a lot of great information that should answer your question and walk you through setting up the devices.
Use iMovie Theater with iOS 8 or OS X Yosemite - Apple Support
Also, if you haven’t already upgraded to OS X Yosemite on your MacBook Pro, this webpage will guide you through that process:

  • How do I export my iMovie '11 video and burn it to a DVD? I've tried 'Share' - 'Media Browser', 'iDVD', and 'Export Movie' but always get an error message indicating that my movie is too long to publish. Thoughts?

How do I export my iMovie '11 video and burn it to a DVD? I've tried 'Share' - 'Media Browser', 'iDVD', and 'Export Movie' but always get an error message indicating that my movie is too long to publish. Thoughts? Additionally, what does 'File' 'Finalize Project' do?

Instead of Share to Media Browser, what happens if you try Share Menu > Export Movie... (choose Large size) and save it to the Desktop?
If that fails try Share Menu > Export using QuickTime...
Then pick Movie to QuickTime Movie, then click on Options... which is just to the right of Export
Under the Video section click on Settings...
Then in the pulldown menu at the top, titled Compression Type: Choose Apple Intermediate Codec. Then click OK. And click OK again, and save it to the desktop. Once the .mov file is created, you can import that into iDVD and most likely it will work in Wondershare Creator if you prefer to use that instead.

  • IMovie imports video with only still frame

I have converted video files from MTS to MOV and they play fine in quicktime.  But when I import them to iMovie, the video appears as one static frame the whole time while the audio plays fine.  I have tried to convert the files again and import those, but I'm having the same issue.  The format of the files is: H.264, 1920x1080, Millions AAC, 2 channels, 44100 Hz, 23.98.  Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

You might try sending it from QuickTime to iMovie by using File -> Export To -> iMovie...

Download the latest version of iTunes, then plug in your iPad.
Regardless of what OS you have you will have a photo sync option.
It may look different being windows, but it is not so dramatically different.
Here is a guide for photos, but works just as well for video:
Step A: Opening iTunes and Setting Photo Sync Up
Fire up the iTunes – Make sure that your iPad device is selected (see A1), and that you are switched to the Photos section (see A2) – finally – make sure you check “Sync Photos” Radio Button (see A3)…
Also make sure to Tick the Include Video button!
Step B: Selecting Photo Folders to Sync
You will be on the same screen – double-check that B1 is checked and move onto B2 – here you will chose folder that contains pics you want to move onto the device. Finally, for the purpose of this exercise – let’s chose “Selected Folders” as in B3 (I try to avoid “All Folders” as my photos folder has a large number of photos that would occupy pretty much all free memory space I have on my iPad)
Step C: Navigate to Photo Folder
This should be a straight forward step that you have probably completed many times before – navigate to the folder that contains photos that you want copied onto your device – the path to your folder will be something similar to C1 (emphasis on ’similar’ – but not “the same”). Once done, click C2 (“Select Folder”) as shown on the screenshot.
Step D: Excluding Folders from Sync (SYNCING)
In this step you will be able to exclude photo folders that you don’t want to see on your iPad – Verify that D1 and D2 are correct and then move to D3 where you will select what is being moved onto the iPad.
ONCE YOU ARE DONE HIT THE SYNC BUTTON (LOWER RIGHT CORNER OF THE ITUNES APPLICATION)
    Step E: Open Photo App
Quick and easy – find a Photo app on your iPad (it’s likely it’ll not be at the same spot as shown here)
    Step F: Opening Albums View
Once the Photo App is opened – hit the ALBUMS button (see F1):
    Step G: Open Album
Once in “Albums” view of the iPhoto App – you will be able to see all albums that have been synced – the albums should contain the photos you would like to see. For the puprose of this exercise I’ll hit G1 (album with Bird Photos):
    Step H: The End

  • IMovie 08 videos on to iPhone 3G?

I was wondering if you can put iMovie 08 videos on to iPhone 3G?
    If so how, Thanks
    Brandon

    Yes.
Under "Share" there is an option for ipod. This will put it on your itunes ready to sync to you iphone.
I do this often with home movies.

  • Why doesn't iMovie import video directly from the iPhone 3GS

We here quite frequently that Apple offers a better overall experience than the competition because they make the whole widget... I was SHOCKED to discover that iMovie will NOT recognize my iPhone 3GS... Doesn't Apple make both products and their OS's (Yes, I know they make both)?
iMovie imports video from my FLip HD just fine... This is very disappointing... And yes, I figured out how to do it... Import it to iPhoto, export it as a .mov and import it to iMovie... This is crazy, Apple!

What I find shocking is that if you open iMovie and select "Import from Camera..." the iPhone doesn't show up.
For further clarification, I have turned off the option to open iPhoto or Image Capture automatically when a camera is attached. I don't that option to import photos from my camera because they are automatically imported to my computer via the eye-fi card in my camera.
I do expect that when I open iMovie manually and select to "Import from Camera..." that the iPhone will be recognized as a camera. My FLip mino HD is recognized and it is awkward to then have to open iPhoto, import the movies, export the movies and then import them to iMovie to modify them and move them to my Apple TV.
I have provided Apple my Feedback on both their iPhone and iMovie sites.

  • Quicktime Pro - Simple video fades?

With QTPro can I do simple video fade in/out to and from black?
I just need to tidy up the ends of a movie file
Is this possible in QTPro, to the nearest frame for precision editing?

The MPEG Streamclip software as recommended by QuickTimeKirk solved a similar problem I was having with running video and audio. I had bought QuicktimePro and Quicktime MPEG playback, only to find that audio from my MPEG 2 camcorder content did not play on my MacBook. Several calls to Apple tech support and long waits in queue did not help get me the help I needed. After searching the online Apple support resources, I found the answer - Eureka! Audio now plays loud and clear. Thanks QuickTimeKirk for the advice. User/discussion forums are the way to go - corporate tech support is more often than not a joke and waste of time.

  • Ipad iMovie missing video

I created a project in iMovie then I reconfigured iTunes some how and synced it. Now iMovie can't find the original .mov file I created with the ipad. I have the .mov and i put it in my photos sycning folder and checked the box that says include movies but iMovie still can't find it.It shows up in iMove under Video, but at this point I think I need to have it in the camera roll or something? the file is 3GB so I can't email it like some suggest or Dropbox because my account only has 500MB.
    Please help

    Hi Craig,
I also got the second problem. The storyboard on iMovie trailer has all these missing videos. If I import them on my iPad it doesn't find them.
If you find a solution it would be much appreciated to share it here ... I'll do the same.
    Thanks,
    Rafael
