IMovie 09' Export 1080p Only Viewable In 360p

Hi,
I am so annoyed right now because of the fact, i've uploaded this video to youtube, and it is only viewable in 360p when I know I exported it to 1080p. I filmed it with my full HD camera, and it was set to full HD when I recorded it, and I exported it to my desktop with the format of 1080p through iMovie. It took ages to upload because of the great quality of the movie on my mbp hence the large file size (1.34GB)
I really want to fix this as soon as possible, I need this in HD.
Thanks,
Chris

I had this problem too, after initially being successful with a 1min HD movie.
There is no problem - it's just a delay...
When I shared my video from iMovie (10) as HD it uploads to YouTube but when you first view it, it's in 360p, and there's no option for the resolution above that. But have faith, in the background YouTube is still processing the video for the higher resolutions (assuming your video is in HD).
After a few minutes, revisit YouTube and your video will be there in HD.

What you could do now is break up your video into smaller parts and render them out, then assemble them again as a whole.
I know this is not the best fix, but it might work.
You can duplicate an edit in the main screen, then delete the last bits and export,
do the same for the other half.
Then import the two bits (or more if you need) in a new edit.
Out of curiosity, can you post what format the video is in?
Copy a video straight from the camera to your computer.
Open it in Quicktime player, and with out playing type Apple + i
or Control + i for PCs
It should tell you lots of info about the video, and might help us to see what is wrong.
This is what it looks like:

  • What happens when i upload an iMovie to Facebook but select the setting so that it's only viewable to me?

I'm trying to upload my iMovie to facebook for school just in case it doesn't work from on my USB, but I don't want to upload it to youtube.  I was just wondering what that setting did . . .

If you are referring to the setting in Facebook "so it's only viewable by me", it means only you can view it.  No one on your friends list etc.

  • IMovie 6 Export SO SLOW!

Maybe someone can help me better understand this. I'm about to start archiving all my old family videos. I already see the benefits of DV - transferring from Hi8 tapes will be a lengthy process. Anyway, I need to capture about 35 tapes. It's obvious that I won't have nearly the hard drive space I need (at nearly 1Gb per 5 minutes...), so I'll need to capture each video, edit it, and then export (share) as a file.
That's there where my problem exists. I'm using a powerful machine with files around 10 Gb's. But exporting a complete video...should it really take nearly two hours?! Why does it take so long? At that rate, I'll finish about one video a day - considering two hours to import, an hour or so to edit, and then two more hours to export. Then burning to DVD using iDVD 6, that process takes nearly another hour. Why does the computer process so slow. Even during the editing process, it's very slow to respond. I press play and it takes a while to begin playing! What's the deal?
And for the record, I have a very clean system with minimal software on it, nothing else running. Plus 2.5 Gb of RAM. Can anyone help shed some light on this?

You tell me that I can bypass iMovie entirely and go
straight to iDVD, but I think this is only possible
    with a DV camera, correct?
Yup, it's my understanding too a DV camera is required.
    I feel like
there is so much time lost by moving it into a
program, then exporting it, only to import it
somewhere else to finally get it to a DVD!
There's no avoiding importing the video, of course. That requires one hour of for each hour of video. But there's no need to export THAT video from iMovie for iDVD. iMovie has a command to share its project with iDVD, and that takes about 10 seconds. (iMovie sends iDVD a link to a tiny reference movie it prepares for iDVD.)
There is a downside to the method you've proposed, however. I've assumed you're using iDVD to burn a TV-playable DVD. That compresses the video, changing the DV of the captured video to MPEG-2. There's some loss of quality doing that, and additional loss (and considerable inconvenience) to convert it back to DV when you want to edit it.
That can be avoided by archiving the iMovie project as a DATA file on the DVD instead of using iDVD to create TV-playable DVD. Essentially, the DVD acts just like a hard drive. iMovie has a command to burn the project on a DVD, or it can be done in the Finder. When you want to edit the project you just drag the project from the DVD back to the hard disk.
There is one limitation, however. The iMovie project can be no larger than 4.6GB, the size of a DVD. So you have to limit the imported video to about 20 minutes for each project. (Burning a TV-playable DVD, on the other hand, can handle 2 hours because of the compression.)
If you use that approach be sure to set your iMovie 6 preferences to limit the length of each clip to 3 minutes or something. Then you can discard clips you don't want, empty then iMovie trash, and reduce the size of the iMovie project. Otherwise, if you import 20 minutes as a single clip, you can't reduce the size of the project. iMovie's non-destructive editing feature always preserves the entire Media file, which makes it impossible to remove a portion of the Media file.

  • IMovie 09 export fails - exported movie stalls, parts missing

    Hi there fellow mac users,
I've got a problem here, and it seems like I am the only one (I've searched extensively for a solution). I'm working on an iM project using 1080i AIC imported video, shot using a JVC HD7. The .TOD files the HD7 produces were converted to AIC, and then imported as 'Large - 960x540' in iM '09. So far so good, the .mov files ie the footage is all very playable and of wonderful quality. iM '09 has a really easy interface and offers anything I need to edit a movie. So now I was ready to export. The first attempt I made was to export a Large movie via the Share menu.
Here the problem started. The export took about 2 hours, which isn't too long considering the length of the movie (about 1:20 hrs). But the .m4v file does not play as expected. The movie stalls at the points where clips meet (without any effects or transitions, so just hard cuts). I have been trying different export formats, and somehow there's allways something wrong with them. Also very strange is that an .m4v export was only 1.26 hrs in duration and a .mov export was 1.11 hrs, so it even has some footage missing. Is anyone else having this problem? Or does anyone have any suggestions in how to solve this issue? All the software on my 2.4 GHz MacBook Pro is up to date, permissions have been repaired etc.
    thanks,
    Koen

I normally use the "no transition" transition for about 90% of my clips, and iMovie handles it great.
If I had to guess, the problem is related to the length of your movie. But it could also be related to export settings.
    First, reboot your Mac. Then...
    1)
I would first right-click on the title of your movie, and select DUPLICATE. This will give you a way to test without hurting your current file.
Then, in the duplicate copy, delete every thing except the first 15 minutes of the movie. Share that in Large, and see how it looks. If it looks good, it is probably the length of the movie that is an issue.
    2) If you are using the SHARE/iTUNES or SHARE/TO WEB GALLERY using the large preset, you should be fine. If you are using SHARE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME and changing the settings, that could be an issue. Check your settings for Keyframe. It should probably be automatic or every 24 frames. Also check data rate. It should be 5000 to 8000 kbps, but could go higher to get better quality. If it is too low, it could cause this issue.
There is nothing in the iMovie architecture that would say it cannot make a theatrical length movie, but in practice, many people report having issues when movies get much longer than 30 minutes. My guess would be that somewhere over 30 minutes you create so many swapfiles and there is so much swapping that iMovie starts behaving unpredictably. For example, iMovie might require that more pages are swapped in than there is real memory available. (But I'm no programmer - so discount that by 80%). There is a difference in the iMovie 09 architecture from iMovie 6. iMovie 6 would render all effects, titles, transitions, audio, etc as you were editing, so you are always waiting for something to finish rendering, iMovie 9 allows you to edit fast and apply all the choices at rendering time.
Probably 95% of the people who use iMovie are making home videos of 5 to 10 minutes, or exporting multiple short movies (say up to 20 minutes) to iDVD which will be accessed in a menu structure. It is rare for someone to want to make a theatrical length movie. When people do, they are probably combining multiple logical movies in order to "fill" a DVD.
My first advice would be to divide this movie up unto chunks of up to 30 minutes. If you need them in one movie, stitch them back together later using QuickTime PRo by putting the in a .mov container.
A third thing to try would be to SHARE/to IDVD and see if you get any better results.
If you are making a real theatrical movie, invest in FInal Cut Express or Final Cut Studio, which handles large movies and has tools to process them in chunks.

  • You Tube videos will only play at 360p and 240p, no 480p. Was working before yesterday.

Standard definition You Tube videos will only play at 360p and 240p, no 480p. HD videos will play at 720p, no 1080p. It was working until yesterday. I have not made any changes to Firefox. I tried upgrading to the latest version. This is not helping either. I don't have this problem when using Internet Explorer. The problem exists on both of my computers.

hello kmcvety, this should be an issue which is going to be resolved in firefox 36 - you could try it out right now in the beta version:

  • IMovie 08 exports reversed screen shot instead of movie to all targets

Capture - iShowU - Apple Animation - looks great - edits great - Can't get the **** thing out of iMovie - it exports a screen shot only - a backwards screenshot - like a negative - upside down as well - to iTunes, MediaBrowser, .Mac, YouTube - desktop.
Then I started from scratch - moved contents of iMovie folder to trash - re-imported clips - which were stored on an external drive - Same thing.

Note to Apple - Is this something that I can expect to be fixed or do I give up and start over?
They will if everyone provides appropriate feedback through proper channels. Here is a link to the Apple "Product Feedback" page on which you can locate a link to current Apple products. Use the links provided to report bugs, make technical comments, or request enhancements. If you don't report a problem, they can't fix it. • Exporting Audio Only

I thought that you used to be able to export audio only from iMovie using share to quicktime with some advanced settings.  I don't see that as an option in the new Mavericks iMovie

Seriously ? There are no user selectable options for audio exports?
What the heck is wrong with giving people the ability to accomplish what they want to ITB?
Maybe this is just a marketing tactic to sell compressor to people who might not otherwise need it.
I sincerely hope Apple returns audio export options in the next update.
    Bj4mac,
For what it's worth, you should not have been using 44.1 audio in FCPX.
Use one of the apps that Tom mentioned to convert to 48. (or QT pro if you still have that from FCS).
If this is an audio-only task you're attempting, that's all the more reason to use another app.
    Good luck

  • Hang ups and jerkiness in iMovie HD export to mini dv camera

I have a big problem-- while I am trying to export a TV show created in *_iMovie HD 6.0.3 (267.2)*_ to my *Sony DCR TRV-900*, which I have done many times.
Suddenly, there is jerkiness upon export to my camera. My iMoive video which plays back normally on the coputer looks jerky and almost slo mo while going to camera, and is also like than when the mini dv is played back. However the audio quality seems to be ok on the mini dv.
FYI, this show is made up of a series of Full Quality Quicktime chunks (ie individual scenes that I made and exported thru iMovie as Full Quality QuickTime, and then re-imported as individual Quicktime video chunks so not to tax the exporting capacity of iMovie too much).
The show is about 26 minutes, and the size of the iMovie file is about 26 gigs. The file resides on a Maxtor external drive with firewire 400.
I have plugged and replugged, turned camera on and off, and changed mini dv tapes a couple of times...
Does anybody out there know what is up with this jerky outputting problem?
    Thanks
    Michael in LA

Not sure why you should have this problem now, but you can export the entire movie as a new Full Quality Quicktime, and then reimport that into a new iMovie and export that new iMovie to your camcorder.
Just be sure you have enough free space on your hard drive where your iMovie is located.
.....that MIGHT be the problem with the jerking......how much free space do you have?

on this system is ABAP and BI JAVA installed.
is it possible to export the ABAP part <u>ONLY</u> and use this for  a new installation ??
Thisnew  installation must include ABAP and BI JAVA.
are there some notes for it?? and is this supported by SAP??
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Yes this is possible. Under the link http://service.sap.com/instguides follow to the system copy part and there you get the documents pertaining to the export of only ABAP part from the dual stack.
It should be possible for you take it up from there on.

    Thanks!

Finally found the answer. The recording was done at 48, the audio/MIDI settings were set to 48, but the sampling setting on the export was not, causing everything else to break down. Once all three matched the export worked and the playback audio worked without opening the clip editing screen.
