IMovie '09: Export to Quicktime: Error -108

I've been trying to export a movie - just over an hour long, primarily photos - to Quicktime. I was using the Apple Codec now I'm trying the MPEG-4 setting, with the HD 190X1080 16:9 size and 48,000KHz audio.
Every single time I try I get the "error code -108" message - not enough RAM. However I'm using a 24" iMac with 4GB.
I have NO ideas what-so-ever can some please point me in the right direction?
I'm running Snow Leopard - I've restarted the machine, repaired the permissions, the only thing I can imagine it's related to is that some of the material (music) is running off of an external hard-drive. Please? Some one help!

I would suggest trying it at 960x540. That will cut down the size by a factor of 4 and may let it fit in the RAM. This size upscales very nicely on most TVs because it is a simple transform to go to 1920x1080.
If that does not work, you may need to split your movie into shorter pieces.
What is your final destination? BluRay?

  • Failed: QuickTime Error: -108

Everytime I try to use Compressor to create a file using the 'HD for Apple Devices (10 Mbps). it fails within seconds with an error message of 'Failed: QuickTime Error: -108' . I only get this on my MacPro 12 core. The Macbook doesn't have this issue. I guess the error lies within Quicktime itself. Any suggestions appreciated!

OK, Compressor should show up in the list when you click the Purchases button:
The official way to reinstall is to hold down the Option key while you click the Purchases button. I assume it looks to see if it's installed. If it isn't, then it says Install at the right instead of Installed. Again, this is assuming you've trashed the original program from the Applications folder. I can't remember if it's enough to put it in the trash, or if you have to actually empty the trash, or if it also works if you've copied the App file to an external disk and then disconnect that.
If yours is not working this way, or if Compressor is not even showing up, then I think one of two things is going on. #1 - is it possible that you have two different Apple IDs and you're signed in with the one that did not make the Compressor purchase? or #2 - there is a problem with your Apple Account and you're going to have to get help from tech support. If it's the correct account but it does not remember what you have purchased, then you need to get that straightened out.
I'm sorry that you're having these glitches, but this is the accepted technique for reinstalling - I've done it myself.

  • Choosing 'Export', I confront 'Error 108' message. Exporting  with file format mp4, etc doesnot work.

Choosing 'Export'  in file menu, QuickTIme pro (v.7.7.4) ,   I confront 'Error 108' message   with WIndows 7.
    Namely
Error-108 : an unknown error occurred.
As a results  Exporting  with file format mp4, etc doesnot work. (windows 7. Quick time player v.7.7.4)
What are the reason? How do I operate this ?
    Thank you.

boom! that advice was correct and worked. i was able to export the full project as a quicktime movie and it can be uploaded to youtube.
NOTE, theres is definately quite a few noticeable audio glitches/lags/pops that werent there before doing this. I believe, and will test to make sure, that having a project such as this one needs to render before exporting. I'm not sure if the advice requires the project to be unrendered before exporting for a specific reason, because if it will export fine after rendering the project that's the way to go. like i said the edited version i have in my timeline plays back perfectly but this exported version has quite a few noticeable audio glitches (a few video glitches too). I'm going to retry doing the first few steps of your advice, but then at the end render, then export and compare the results...
OK, so this leads to a big question, Is this something that is standard for everyone when trying to export? If its not, what causes this error?
is there any way of preemptively avoiding it in future projects?
thanks again, and hopefully this information will help others as exporting seem to be one of the biggest problems in fcpx. any word on a new patch or firmware update?

  • Exporting FCP quicktime error -50

hi i want to export a 9 minutes video with FCP. while exporting, suddenly an error was occurred "final cut pro has failed quicktime error -50" , the statement probably like this.
i've searched on internet about this bug (quicktime error -50) but i couldn't find solution
    thank you very much.
    any response will help .

One thing that seems to solve a lot of these export problems in 10,9 is this: right click on the FCPX app file and choose Get Info. Check the box next to Prevent App Nap. You may have to close and re-launch FCP for it to take efffect.

  • IMovie 11 - Export Using Quicktime - File Disappears after Export......

    Hey everyone:
I've got a weird one here.  I've made my first project using iMovie.  I want to burn a DVD, so I clicked >>Share >> iDVD and it comes over fine.  I then setup a menu and stuff and burned it.  However, when I play it on my 52" plasma, it doesn't fit correctly.  It fills the screen, but it's almost like it's zoomed in so it cuts off of ALL edges.
So I did some research and found this post and went to try it out.  So within iMovie, I click "share using Quicktime" and change some of the various settings and export the movie as a Quicktime (.MOV) file to my "Movies" folder.  The movie is about 55 minutes, it says it'll take about 35 minutes to export.
35 minutes later I come back and the export box has closed, iMovie is still open, just like it should be, and the file I just exported is nowhere to be found.  It just disappears.  The second and third time I tried, I open a Finder window and watch the file get created, then get larger, and larger.  But once it's done, the file is gone.
So then I created a new project and made a movie that was only 10 minutes long.  It exports fine and the file is there when it's done.  In other words, I can't replicate the problem with a new project.  However, I have a lot of time in editing this movie and don't want to start over for fear of finding the same result.
    What should I do?
    Thanks!

I have this same problem and there are several threads running about it.  I have the paid-for version of iMovie, and cannot even get it to export a Quicktime movie.  This makes it even more useless than I already find it to be.  I spent the last two days working on a video, and for me to send it to my client, I would have to freight my computer to them so they could view it.

  • Will Not Export To Quicktime Error -1

Keynote has worked exporting to Quicktime perfectly in the past, but now says i don't have enough memory to export to Quicktime with an error or -1.
Just had plain text with me doing voiceover for about 20 minutes.
Have done it before with no problems.
I tried going to Library and removing the preferences for Keynote thinking maybe something got corrupted, but no dice.
    Any help would be appreciated!

Was able to export after rebooting.

hmmmm. are all the PCs on the same network?
if so, is there systemwide security software? if so, check to see if the QuickTime Player is being allowed access to the internet.

  • Imovie 09 export to quicktime settings.

    Hi,
I would like to export video clips that I shot using the iPhone 4 (720p) from imovie 09' however, I am having some difficulties with 'export using quicktime' settings
What is the best settings for export in this case?
Also what is the difference between these two; '1080 x 720p HD vs HD 1080 x 720p 16:9' from the export size settings?
Many thanks for your cooperation and efforts committed in dealing with this.

Welcome BarrenRegions to the  iMovie boards ..
no way to answer that question.. you have to compare apples with peaches.. (German proverb):
iMHD≥6 was a dv-only editor (and AIC, but this is another story...); it handles dv lossless.. frequent contributor lennart once made a test of ex- and reimporting a few dozends time the same clip = no loss of pic quality.
    now iM08/09:
it handles dv not as dv internally anymore; therefore it accepts lots of other codecs (mp2, avchd, h264...).. so, depending of your source, the export can be lossy.
we have mile-long threads about that, search for posts from Steve Mullen and Euisung Lee who did research this issue +ad nauseam+
as far as I followed that discussion: there's a 'trick', to convert - after import into iM08/09 - the imports to AppleIntermediate with tools as QTpro or Mpeg Streamclip. that blows-up size, but forces iM08/09 to keep quality a 100%...
.. sorry for being less helpful, even as a 'Silverback' on this board, all that is +a bit+ beyond my skills, needs and understanding.. to be honest: I switched awhile ago to FinalCutExpress, and will use iM09 when I'll get a new rec-device.. hopefully this year (Santa! do you listen?!...)

  • Export fails, quicktime error -50

fcpx will not export my project to the media browser or other devices. it starts to then comes up with a quicktime error -50. i did export a quicktime movie using media export but it loses sound a few minutes in and the video keeps playing.

    code: Quicktime Error -50.
error: -50 is the paramErr or error in the user parameter list. I.e., a parameter that you are sending to the procedure is missing or the parameter is unacceptable for one reason or another. E.g., a missing path element, filename with an unacceptable character, a destination target that is non-existant, a target prodecure expecting data that is not included in the file, etc.

  • Xsan 1.4.1 and Quicktime Error -108

First, have a brief look through this old thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=2468809#2468809
This was a huge ongoing problem with anyone who was using final cut studio apps and xsan (until it was resolved in 1.4) As of recently (just after upgrading to 1.4.1) on one of the machines in our cluster, instead of 2048 corruption of rendered files 50% of of the time, I now am seeing a new issue that about 20% of the time, a render fails due to error -108, always on one of the machines.
So far I've tried rebooting and remaking the cluster, and nothing seems to have fixed the issue. I had been using this machine as well with just 1.4 and 10.4.8 without this issue for a decent amount of time as well. Apple support was nice enough last time to have submitted the problem to engineering even though I didn't have a support contract cause of the amount of heat they got for the 2048 issue, but this time it sounded like I would have to buy support for 4 seats before anything happened, so I'm kinda out of luck.
Wanted to know if anyone else had this issue and if it's a new potential issue, or just something that will need me to reinstall the OS on that machine.
Thanks for anyone who can provide some insight!

There seems to exist license issue.
    Yesterday, I have upgraded MDCs from 10.4.6 & Xsan 1.3 to 10.4.8 & Xsan 1.4.
Xsan & StorNext clients can mount Xsan Volume.
But even shutting down a Windows client, total number of connected clients doesn't reduced at Xsan Admin.
So when the # of clients is more than # of SNFX licence.dat, the windows client can't mount Xsan volume.
BTW at cvadmin # of connected clients is recognized correctly.
    Any idea?
    Thanks!

  • IMovie Export to QuickTime Error 2002

Hi, I am trying to export a project through the QuickTime option in >Share but every time after hte completion of the export, I get this error message 2002 (I think it was 2002 - I stupidly dismissed the window before seeing the number).
Anyone has any idea what's wrong? I export seamlessly to iTunes though.

I've seen the same error reported earlier tonight on this forum. Error -50 is a user parameter error and is likely associated with trying to write illegal characters to a non HFS formatted disk, would this make any sense to you in your present workflow.
Actually I see your error is a 50 (not a -50) or is that a typo. That's a networking error, which doesn't make any sense to me at all unless you are trying to write to a network device which has been removed and I was of the opinion im08 doesn't work over a network, indeed doesn't even give the option to try.

  • IMovie export to quicktime error 50

Sharing my quicktime project returns an error message and won't continue.
Firstly, I'm told an event won't run, but will appear as black. The event is called 'Desktop' and I haven't the foggiest where any such event is located ..
Then it tells me that there was an error type 50 and it won't continue.
I can share to itunes, but I want a quicktime format to upload to icompositions ..
Sending to Youtube gives me the same mysterious desktop reference, but it still uploads ..

  • Export to quicktime error

    hi all
did anybody get an error msg:
"Error compiling movie. Unable to create or open output file."
when exporting a movie in premiere pro cs3 to Quicktime??
why is it happening? in PPRO 2.0 it used to work all right!

I had this error message when exporting to a raid array on my network (A mapped drive) when I exported the same file/same settings to a USB drive it worked just find, as well as my internals, but that mapped drive...gave me grief.
Just a thought. Try exporting it to another drive.

  • Exporting to quicktime & error

    2 questions:
I have a 95-minute FCP project, which I broke into two parts, and the first 50-min part still tops out at over 11 GB when I export Quicktime movie. I do want the best possible resolution for my purposes.
Do I need to break it down to 20-minute segments in order to get the best res onto 4.7GB DVD-Rs?
Anyway, that's what I've set about doing (although I'd hoped 5 DVD changes wouldn't be needed to view the entire thing.)
Issue 2: On my second 20-minute segment I got the following error from iDVD:
"There was an error during rendering/encoding of the menus/slideshows. Burning process aborted."
Any thoughts on what this might be? If there's a corrupt file, how do I riddle it out?
    Thanks for any help.

Are you trying to burn a DVD that will play on consumer DVD players? If so, then you don't worry about the file sizes the way you are. With iDVD, you simply export a self contained quicktime movie with sequence settings, import that into iDVD and it will encode it for proper playback.
