Imovie 09 insists on looking through photo library at start up

When I start imovie09 it wants to look through the photo library to find all the movies. imovie08 gave you a choice about whether you wanted it to do that - before it started doing it. Looking for movies there is of no value to me because I do not want to use them in projects. More importantly, the library is large and most of it is off line - so I get lots of "Connection failed" messages that I have to "OK" through.
So, my question is: Is there a way to start imovie 09 so that it does not insist on looking through the photo library?
Thanks

Is there a way to start imovie 09 so that it does not insist on looking through the photo library?
AFAIK, no.

  • IPhoto locks up while looking through photos. What do I do?

My iPhoto locks up while looking through photos.  What do I do to fix this?  iPhoto '09 8.1.2

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. If it doesn't  then you current library is damaged.
In that case apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • IPhoto slow when looking through photos

    Hello!
So my issue is simple, and I hope this is something that can be easly fixed. I am reletivly new to Mac so sorry about the stupidity.
I have a Ivy Bridge based i5 at 1.8 GHz Macbook Air with 4GB 1600 MHz RAM.
My issue is when I try to look at photos, It can take almost a whole minute before it changes from one photo to the next, but going back it's fine like it was already buffered or something...
    Thanks in advance,
    Light

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
    Post back with the result.

  • Viewing photo's photo library without starting from the top

I have over 12000 photos on my iPhone and get frustrated if I need to find a relatively recent photo in the photo library. The app always opens with the very first photos and I'm forced to scroll all the way through the years. Is there a setting I'm missing?

No, but you can organise it in different folders.
I supposed you have backup on the computer?

  • Wallpaper on iPhone 3GS - Automatic scroll through Photo Library?

On my MB I have set as Screen Saver a set of photos that I have installed in System Preferences/Desktop & Screen Saver. I have set the whole thing to toggle through the different photos in the Screen Saver folder.
Now I have synced iPhone to import that Screen Saver folder. I have found no way to have iPhone toggle (automatically as in the MB) through the photos.
    Is it possible? How?
    Thanks.

It is not possible, and would need to be implemented by Apple. You can suggest it to them:

  • How to sync pictures from "Photo Library" on iphone 4 to computer to manage them?

This is my senerio! I recently got an iPhone 4...before this phone, i had a Droid through Verizon. Yet, this iPhone 4 service is still through Verizon. When i got the iPhone, i wanted all my pictures from my old phone, the Droid, on this iPhone. The people at Verizon transferred them over. Those pictures were put into the "Photo Library" of my iPhone. I only have say...about maybe 200 pictures. They were all duplicated, many many times! So now i have over 800 of the same pictures in my "Photo Library" how do i delete the duplicates?? I've noticed i cannot delete pictures using the trash can through "Photo Library" you have to be in the Camera Roll to do so. Here are my big questions...
    1. How do i delete pictures off my phone through "Photo Library" without deleting them all?!
    2. How do i get the photos from "Photo Library" onto my computer, or iTunes to be able to manage them?!
I want to pick and choose then delete. I do not want to delete my WHOLE Photo Library.
Again, remember, i never got these already photos from a computer, i got them from another phone!
Someone, please help me! This is so ridiculous!

The photo sync is one way - computer to iphone.
You ould have to e-mail them to yourself.  When you sync photos to your iphone the current pics will be deleted.
The iphone is not a storage device, it simply mirrors the selected content of your computer.

  • Photo library rebuild in iOS4

My photo library suddenly started a rebuild on my 3GS after i upgraded to iOS4. At first, it looked like all the photos had disappeared. When the rebuild finished, the last few weeks of photos were gone. Any ideas on how to recover? I hadn't synced them yet with iPhoto.

This happened on my device (iPhone 3GS w/ iOS 4.0.2).
I saved couple of photos to my library using the Mail app's Save All feature. After that, my camera role disappeared. It re-built upon restarting the image viewer, and I lost all the photos I took since I upgraded to iOS4.

  • "Resetting" photo library?

I have no idea what went wrong, but my iPhoto '09 installation did not properly import all my photos.
What's the easiest way to reset or delete the entire photo library and start from scratch?
I originally had iPhoto set to copy in my photos into the library, so deleting the photo library--if it's possible--will not kill off the originals, as they are in a different set of folders.
Thanks, and sorry for what must be a newbie question.
    Best,
    Laird

    Thanks for your reply.
I don't fully remember what I did; it was a while ago. For background, I'm a software engineer and generally know my way around a computer. For whatever reason, the series of steps I went through must have either been unnecessary or incomplete or both.
The situation was: I had a set of folders that I had copied over into my Documents folder from an old hard drive. These folders were nested and generally disorganized, and contained only pictures and those short videos most point-and-shoot cameras can create.
As I recall, I opened up iPhoto and had to select the Import To Library command. I could be wrong here; that's what I recall. Anyhow, I'm sure I then minimized the application and went back to work. When I next checked in on it, there was a folder called Recovered Photos, and some of my photos were "in" iPhoto "proper" (sorted rather messily into Events, for example), but most of them were in the Recovered Photos folder.
Now I have this hodgepodge mess and would simply like to redo the whole process from scratch.
    Thanks,
    Laird

  • Limited quantities of Photos library images & videos

A big drawback I have discovered when trying to access your new Photos library in iMovie is that if your are optimizing your hard drive space, iMovie will only show you pictures and videos that are actually on your hard drive. Put another way, it doesn't seem to pull any content from iCloud to use in iMovie projects. You have to manually download any media (in the Photos app or otherwise) you want to use before you can use it in iMovie or see it in your Photos Library section in the iMovie 'Libraries' sidebar.  This was a little confusing to me at first, so hopefully this helps someone, and brings this issue to Apple's attention.

Interesting.  When using media from the library of another application like iTunes, iPhoto etc. iMovie links to that library and does not make a copy.  This would be a problem for items in the cloud since the access time would probably be too slow for iMovie.  However it could make a local copy but apparently it does not.
Please note that this a user's forum.  I you want to raise an issue with Apple use this link:   http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

  • Recreate Photos library after geotagging in iPhoto?

By now I am well aware of the inability to add geotags in Photos.  I did not know this when I first loaded Photos and it imported my library from the iPhotos data file, which has a lot of untagged pictures.  Can I delete my current Photos data file, finish geotagging in iPhoto, and then later load up Photos again and recreate the library?  I would prefer this because the untagged photos are spread throughout my library, and tagging in iPhoto and then importing into Photos on a piecemeal basis would be very hard.
I am mainly just nervous about deleting the Photos data file

Yes, you can delete the Photos library and start again with your previous iPhoto Library.
And when you are finished you can upgrade the library again.
Any edits you already made in Photos will be lost, however.

    Morning JJFH,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If after setting up Home Sharing, you cannot access your shared iTunes library over your home network from your Apple TV, take a look at this article:

  • Can't view photo library in iMovie media pane

My photo library is on an external hard drive. I can open iPhoto and it works. I can't access the pictures through iMovie. I had the same problem with music until I put it back on the computers hard drive. I am very experienced with iMovie/iDVD/iPhoto. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    iMac G4 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Welcome to discussions!
Is your hard drive formatted correctly? To find out connect the external drive and then launch Disk Utility found in Applications/Utilities. Your external drive while show up in Disk Utility's side bar.
if it isn't Mac OS Extended-Journaled then click the 'Erase tab' at the top.
Select Mac OS Extended-Journaled formatting from the Volume Format menu.
Then click the oval Erase button at the lower right. That's all you need to do, except you will probably want to back up first as this will erase your drive.
If that isn't the problem, try deleting all of your Keywords from the iPhoto library.

  • Syncing selective Albums through iCloud Photo Library?

Hello, I would like to know whether there is a way to sync selective Albums through iCloud Photo Library? For example, I want album A and B to show on my iPhone but want to see all albums on my Mac. Is this possible?

I don't think so... looking to do this myself...

  • Unable to Understand iMove Events, Projects, or iMovie Photo Library.  Help!

I've got iMovie 10.1 and, unlike other Apple software, I cannot make heads or tails about how it is storying my video clips.   Things that appear in IMovie Library do not appear in All Events.  How can that be possible?  Shouldn't All Events contain any clip I have imported?  I can't even figure out what is the difference between those two folders.   I can't figure out what All Projects contains. either.  It seems to contain the same thing that is in iMovie Library so why have two folders with different names that have the same things?
I've been trying to research this on the web and have not found anybody who can explain what these different folders mean.   Can somebody here do it?
Also, I can't delete a clip no matter what I do.  If I right click on it and say move to trash (while in IMovie Library) it looks like it deleted it but when I go to the actual folder in the Finder, where IMovie Library is,  the clip is still there.   This is one of those maddening cases where the delete button does not delete anything.
The help for iMovie is basically useless.  I cannot find any explanation as to how to delete a clip or how to organize them using these confounding folder names that seem to be different names for exactly the same thing.  Has anybody mastered this?

iMovie 10.1 stores everything in a library package with the extension .imovielibrary but you can have more than 1 library.  When in iMovie, 'All Events' should show all the events in the currently open libraries just as 'All Projects' should do for projects.  These are not actual folders but simply display all the items currently available from the open libraries.
Deleting clips is described in help under:  Browse & organize the library - Organize your events & projects - Delete movies, trailers, clips, and events
Help does contain a lot more information that appears at first but its not always obvious which section to find it in. Its worth going through it all carefully because so many things have been changed in imovie 10 compared to 9.
Some patience is needed to get in tune with the new way of doing things.
    Best of luck!
    Geoff.

  • Help!! As I was scrolling through my library, one folder after another had the photos in it turn to "static"!  Lots of streaks and dots!  What is happening and how do I save my photos?

As I was scrolling through my Aperture library just now, I saw one folder after another turn the photos in that folder into garbage!   They have lines and dots and nothing recognizable - what in the world is causing this?    Can I get my photos back?    It almost looks like a virus eating my files - could it be - and if it is - is my entire computer in trouble?   HELP HELP HELP!

Interesting that you posted this Cleaning up photo library about one hour before this post. I'd say there is a good possibility they are related.
Without knowing your system, OS version and Aperture version and what you were doing to 'clean up' your library there is little we can do.
My photo library is a mess.  I have moved things around a lot in a futile attempt to organize them, now I have a lot of placeholders with no files attached.  How do I clean things up?
I suggest you restore from your backup and forgo the cleaning operation until you have a better grasp of the situation.
BTW the Masters folder is organized by date and time of import at least in Aperture 3, if you are using 2 then all bets are off,
Good luck with Apple support, if you want to try and get this sorted out post back the information I requested above.
    regards
