IMovie 09 stopped recognizing my cameras

I've been using iMovie 09 with my two cameras Panasonic GF1 and Sony TX10. Recently iMovie stopped recognizing both cameras which it used to recognize properly. The problem occurs to both my iMac and MBP so I suspect that it was caused by some recent updates. As these cameras are shooting AVCHD which is not supported directly by iMovie, there is no way to import the MTS clips unless they are detected and imported from the camera.
Anyone has similar experiences and knows how to fix it?
Louis

Very strange - the problems occured a few days ago and I tried reformatting different cards, the problems persist. However, it started to work again for my Panasonic (both from the card directly or from the image I created previously for the undetectable card. I have not done anything and not even rebooted my Mac). It still doesn't work for my Sony thought (neither from the card nor the disk image). Will buy a blank new card then try again.
I'm thinking otherwise I would try out other softwares like Adobe Premiere Element which supports AVCHD editing and I don't need to maintain a large uncompressed video database.
Any comments on using Premiere Element 10?
Thanks for the tips anyway!

  • My MacBook Pro 10.6.8 stopped recognizing my camera USB

My MacBook Pro 10.6.8 stopped recognizing my Sony Exmor R Cybershot USB cord when it had been recognizing it and I have no idea what I can do.

Well there is no other port that I know of to use. Both USBs won't recognize it, but when I walk over to our desktop windows computer, it has zero problem so I'm not sure if it is an incompatibility even thought it is supposed to work fine with Macs.

  • IMovie isn't recognizing my camera.

I have just purchased a JVC GZHD6 video camera. When I hook it up to my mac iphoto can find it and imports the photos. When I go to imovie and try to import the footage it has the name of the camera displayed but it won't import anything. I have tried using both a fire wire cable and a usb cable. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions?

Your JVC camera is capable of recording 1920 x 1080p60. Are you recording in that format? Imovie can't work with p60 without some changes. These changes are illustrated very clearly in Steve Mullen's book, "the ins and outs of imovie 09", which you can buy here. Well worth the money.

  • IMovie 08 not recognizing Canon Vixia HF100

I have had my canon Vixia hf100 for over a year and purchased iLife 08 (with iMovie 08) last year and had no problems with uploading my videos at first.
However, I am no longer able transfer my videos from my camcorder into imovie 08. It will not recognize the camera, and any time I try to do a manual transfer of the files, it tells me they are not movie files. Why would imovie STOP recognizing my camera that it used to recognize? I'm wondering if something changed with one of my software updates that changed imovie and somehow made it incompatible. I would rather not purchase imovie 09. Any insight would be appreciated.

Sorry I didnt mean to offend with simplicity, but unless you do the right (silly as it may seem) sequence it doesn't recognize the Canon! One thing done out of order and you must start over again! I did leave one step out, sorry! When the camera is turned on, you will get a camera screen to select the "play mode". Use the joystick on LCD display panel to select PC mode and depress select button.
iMovie '08 then detects and lets you download all clips from the camera.
Tip: You must use the Movie folder in your user "parental guidance" ok'd user area. No other folder works!
And I do have all apple software updates on that computer. If this still doesn't solve your problem, I purchased Leopard by DVD from Apple and upgraded Tiger. However my new Leopard native computer did not have iMovie '08, still don't know why! So my success has been on the computer using the Leopard DVD upgrade! Perhaps the system upgrade and the native Leopard misses the boat, which would cause your continued problem.
    Sincerely trying to help!

  • Mac is not recognizing my camera AGAIN

Can someone, PLEASE, give me an answer?
Image Capture, iPhoto and Aperture stopped recognizing my camera. The camera blinks while connected as always, I can see it in the System Profiler. In About This Mac, under the USB section, I can see that Canon Digital Camera is showing.
The curious thing is that when I turn off my camera, then quickly turn in on I can see it flashing in Image Capture for like 1 second and then "no camera connected" appears again.
What could cause this problem? I once had the same problem, formatting my camera solved it, but this time I tried it a few times and it didn't work.

"when I turn off my camera, then quickly turn in on I can see it flashing in Image
Capture for like 1 second and then "no camera connected" appears"
Once ejected, a disk/camera has to be replugged in.
But this doesn't seem to be the problem. When connected properly
the cam is showing up in Finder and ATMac. I believe the three
apps aren't seeing your pics because possibly the correct camera
storage setting may not be selected in the Finder - although device
itself is connected and present. When my camera connects to the
Mac I always need to select one of several options - I select DCIM
and that turns out to be my pics. Good luck.

  • Final Cut Suddenly Stopped Recognizing my Sony HDV-FX1 - help!

I've been capturing footage from my Sony HDV-FX1 with no trouble... I'm running a brand new MacPro 8-core and using Final Cut 6.0.5...
But out of nowhere, Final Cut stopped recognizing my camera. I've got the iLink disabled - I'm choosing "Easy Setup" and choosing HDV 60i - nothing seems to work... I've tried different firewire ports... I can't get the computer to recognize the camera - which is frustrating given that the camera recognizes the cord -and the computer had been importing footage just fine for several days...
    Can anyone help??

Odd... nothing was showing up in System Profiler, not even my two external drives... I shut them down, unlplugged, then replugged everything in including my camera firewire cord, started em back up, and presto!
Thanks! It worked - any clue why?

  • IMovie '08: Built-in iSight camera not recognized in Yosemite

    On this page
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/TS2472
iMovie '08: Built-in iSight camera not recognized
    it says:
    In Finder, navigate to /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/
Select the file com.apple.mio.VDCAssistant.plist and delete.
    Restart your system.
You should now be able to use your iSight camera with iMovie.
However, in Yosemite, it only has this file name
    com.apple.cmio.VDCAssistant.plist
and I don't want to delete it as instructed without someone who knows telling me it won't hurt my newly installed and thus far working well OS 10.10.1, with iMovie 7.1.4 on my iMac 24 inch, Early 2008, 2.8 GHz Intel Dore 2 Duo, 2 GB 800 MHz DDR2  SDRAM.  It worked with Leopard, and I don't recall having to use the above mentioned support page.

Contact Apple. I believe you have a hardware issue there if it's not showing up in your System profiler.

When I downloaded the Mavericks Operating system to my MAC computer, the mac stopped recognizing my T4i camera.  How do I fix this.

Apple has an article stating that your camera's digital RAW format is supported. I don't know if that implies the camera too.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5955
The Canon website says the drivers are either already installed or you don't need them for Mavericks.
They do have some updates for the Canon software.
Some more details of, "stopped recognizing my T4i camera," might be helpful.
If you are looking to transfer pictures/movies, can you just plug the card into the Mac or into a card reader?

  • No luck importing from SonyHandycam DCR-DVD650?  I am using USB import to my MacBook that is running OSX 10.6.8. The MacBook is not recognizing the camera.  Any ideas what the issue could be?

I am not having any success in importing my videos from Sony Handycam DCR-DVD 650 to my mac book.  I am using the USB connection.  The macbook is not recognizing the camera.  The macbook is running OSX 10.6.8.  Any ideas on what the problem could be?

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2361 There's a recommendation that when using this camera to record in the 'Standard' format instead of VR format. So if you know what the setting was you used to record the disk that's a starting point.
According to this website the camera should be compatible with iMovie '11
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/cameras/en/index.html?lang=en_US
So here's some steps to take to get the Mac to recognize your camera.
    1. Try it more than a few times, sometimes it can take 2-4 attempts to get iMovie to recognize a camera for the first time.
    2. Always get the power adapter for your camera out of the bag. Hook it to the wall outlet, then plug your camera into that. Don't run it off the battery.
    3. With the camera plugged into the wall, in DV playback mode. Hit play and just let it play video out continuously, then reboot the Mac. As soon as you see the desktop, launch iMovie. Go to File Menu > Import from Camera and see if the Capture window opens with your video playing through.
    4. Make sure iPhoto doesn't try to launch itself automatically when it detects your camera has been connected to the Mac. Sometimes it tries to steal the videos off of a camera and 'blocks' iMovie from seeing the camera when it's attached. So make sure iPhoto hasn't interecepted your camera and is not running at all when you launch iMovie
No guarantees, but some things to try

  • My Apple desktop computer, 2.4 GHz Intel duo core, OS 10.6.8, stopped recognizing the WD My Book connected via firewire. It works fine with the USB port so it's not the drive. Help please.

My Apple desktop computer, 2.4 GHz Intel duo core, OS 10.6.8, stopped recognizing the WD My Book connected via firewire. It works fine with the USB port so it's not the drive. Help please?

It can be the bridge. It could need firmware update. or the FW ports may be an issue. LaCie seemed to invent the phrase/tip 'resetting firewire ports' due to the issues with their drive cases.
You can try an SMC Reset.
So far I have avoided name-brand and tend to see them mentioned. Often with a new OS (though you are on 10.6.8, but when 10.6 came out there was a common complaint and thread of users: FW or USB worked but not the other interface).

  • IMac stopped recognizing my Nikon D7100

All of a sudden my iMac 24" stopped recognizing my Nikon D7100 DSLR when I plug it into a USB port.  I'll clarify a little better. iPhoto does see the camera, but when I go to "Finder" I can't see the camera listed under "devices" so I can, in addition to iPhoto, transfer my photos to a folder on the HD. I know people wonder why I do this, but my wife like to "edit" her photos before importing into iPhoto. She doesn't like the editing tools in iPhoto. I don't understand why I can't see the photos on the memory card outside of iPhoto. This is very frustrating.

Most DLSR users use a card reader rather than connecting the camera directly to the computer. Get yourself a good card read, pop the card(s) out of the camera and upload directly from the card to the computer.

  • IMovie '08 doesn't recognize camera

I have a Jazz HD178 video camera. I use it for air-to-ground video from my RC model airplanes. The Jazz file formats are JPEG/AVI(H264)/WAV/MP3. iMovie '08 does not recognize the camera.
1.Is there any way I can adjust settings so iMovie '08 will recognize the camera?
    2. What Apple format will give me an iMovie resolution of 1280x720 and a 16:9 aspect ratio?
I have downloaded a number of converters but only Apple TV seems to have the resolution but not the aspect ratio I'm looking for. Everything seems to be for iPod or iPhone.

  • Shuffle causes Windows to stop recognizing all other USB ports!?!

When I plug my new Shuffle in to any USB Port, Windows stops recognizing all other USB drives. (this includes my internet connection and external hard drive with all music) If I disconnect the Shuffle and repower the other devices, they work normally again. I've seen this same problem on this forum and the answer did not help - here is the answer/link given the previous posting: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499
The shuffle has its own drive letter on my computer, so no conflict here AND my husband's shuffle works just fine on this same usb port and same cradle. As soon as I eject the working shuffle and place the new one in the cradle, my computer shuts down and no other USB Ports work until I unplug the shuffle and repower the others. Maybe a shuffle problem?
