IMovie 09 to iMovie 11 slide problems

Hey,
I recently upgraded to iMovie 11. Now, projects that I was working on won't work. The music is still fine, but the slides are always the same. There are like 5 pictures that always repeat throughout the whole video, even thought the miniatures apear fine. Any ideas why is that?

I'm having a very similar problem. Recently upgraded to iLife 11 and some projects that I was working on play fine, but the more recent video projects I was working on won't even open. The "Edit Project" button becomes disabled as soon as I try to select those particular projects from the Project Library. The raw footage in the Event Window plays fine but the project won't. Apple, please FIX this.

I don't have your model but here are some things to try.
1) Make sure you are powering the camcorder with AC power not batteries.
2) Open iMovie before connecting the Camcorder
3) Connect the USB Cable and turn on the camcorder
4) Open the LCD screen of the camcorder. Does it give you a choice of Pictbridge vs. PC Mode. If so, choose PC Mode.
5) iMovie import screen should come up.
Also, make sure you have installed all software updates. (/Software Update). If the software update requires you to restart your Mac, then restart your Mac before proceeding. Install iMovie, iLife, Quicktime, and Leopard updates.
If that still does not work, try taking out your SD card and putting in a USB card reader.
If that still does not work, put the card back in the camcorder and make a disk image of the card using disk utility. After making the disk image, try formatting the card using your camcorder menu. Then retry shooting some footage and importing.
By the way, using MPEG streamclip should not create files any larger than iMovie will create using an import function.

Imovie: i am having problems sizing my image

imovie: i am having problems sizing my image when i convert the cells into a 'project'.
I can see all the image in full, - until i drag it into project area, then in the view window the image is too large and is cut in half.
i have adjusted the PAL size . large full view etc..
I tired exporting and even when exported to quicktime, the image is cut in half.
does anybody have any idea what the problem is?

I also have Jolly's problem. I found the iMovie 9.0.9 folder and tried to launch the older version of iMove. It would not launch. I removed all of the iMovie preferences from the Preferences folder, removed iMove 10 from the applications folder, and restarted my Mac. iMove 9.0.9 still won't launch and I can't access my videos created with the older version of iMovie. Is there a way to uninstall iMovie 10 and reinstall iMovie 9.0.9?
I am running Yosemitie on a iMac.

Why Are there question marks in my dock that says iphoto, imovie and imovie hd after resetting my dock?

My iBook G4 used to belong to my mums friend. After having it and using it for 2 years, I did a dock reset. Now There are question marks saying iphoto, imovie and imovie hd. I don't have the installation disk with me so how do I get these apps back?

Do you know which versions they were? Sometimes they came on an iLife disc; sometimes on an Applications disc or Restore disc with the original software package that came with the iBook when it was new.
Doing a Dock reset would not have removed these applications from the Applications folder.
If they are no longer in the Applications folder, you will have to reinstall them from a disc.
Which exact iBook model is it?

Handbrake (free) can recover from the DVD into an editable file you can use in iMovie.

Imovie slideshow image quality problems

I have created a slideshow in imove with music of a wedding my wife and I shot. For some reason the image quality is really poor. I tried going through idvd and I tried exporting it as a quicktime movie and burning it with toast but they both look crappy on the tv when we watch them. Please help because I need to get it out to the clients.
I have done this once before and I did have some problems but somehow got the quality we wanted. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If some slides show a lot of "jaggies" the project may have been affected by a long-standing bug in iMovie that adds jaggies to photos when you share the project with iDVD. If we grant permission for iMovie to render the images when sending the project to iDVD, it messes them up pretty badly.
If that's what happened, you'll need to re-import those images to replace the badly-rendered clips.

Major "BUG" in Imovie 9 - Audio Sync Problem on Export !

Well I'm a hard-core Apple user from day one, but unfortunately today I'm not to proud about the latest version of Imovie 9.
It seems there has been a "MAJOR audio sync problem on export" in Imovie 9, since July 2009. Apple knows about this bug for a long time now, but didn't release any bugfix yet!
Here's what it's all about:
It seems if you use the (custom /manual) speed-adjustments and not the preset slider speeds, you will experience (after exporting your movie) annoying bursts of audio from clips that had been set to mude. The strange thing is that you will only experience this audio-bug after exporting, you will NOT experience it in the project playback mode!
Here's what you can do:
Find ALL the clips in your Project that are Speed Adjusted.
Instead of using a "Custom Speed" percentage, use any of the "Preset Speeds"
Preset Speeds on the Slider = 12.5%, 25%, 50%, 100%, 200%, 400%, 800%
Then, export your project as usual.
No more sync issues.
Really hope That Apple will come up with a real BUGFIX soon.
It's a shame that a major bug in a otherwise GREAT PRODUCT, hasen't been fixed yet!

This is TERRIBLE! I have spent so much time working on this project, and I really don't want to adjust the speed settings to the preset levels, BECAUSE I need to motion of the video to match certain musical points. I can't re-film my video, and I needed this project done TODAY. I made a music video with some kids at summer camp, and today is the last day- the day we were supposed to all watch it together, and now, I've got NOTHING!!!! (Because I can't export it without all those glitches!)
I am MAJORLY DISAPPOINTED on this one. I've made movies in windows movie maker before, and purposely used imovie, because you know, everything on macs is supposed to be better. Well, I guess I was wrong.

Controlled test shows imovie 08 import is problem with image quality

Like many others I thought that I had noticed a quality difference between imovie 08 and imovie 06. So I did a controlled test:
I imported the same video into imovie 08 and imovie 06. I made two separate movies out of the video in 08 and two separate movies out of the video in 06. I then exported one of the 06 movies into 08 and one of the 08 movies into 06. I then burned all four movies to dvd.
The resulting burns were the following:
1. imported into 06, burned through 06
2. imported into 06, exported to 08 and burned through 08
3. imported into 08 and burned through 08
4. imported into 08, exported to 06 and burned through 06.
The result:
The movies imported into 06 were clearly superior in image quality to those imported into 08. I couldn't tell a difference between the 06 imports burned through 08 and 06. I also couldn't detect a difference between movies imported into 08 and burned in 06 and 08.
What is it about 08 import that causes quality degradation? I couldn't find any quality preferences to change.
I suppose this post isn't much different from the others along this line but I couldn't find any that did this type of controlled test.
Applecare had no idea why there was this difference.

I think I've solved my problem with a Google Search. I came across a free slide show generator
(contributions requested) that shows much higher quality slide shows than either iPhoto or Aperture 3.
You click on a folder of jpegs and it almost immediately generates thumbnails and within a few seconds
I can be viewing a full screen, tack sharp, slideshow of all of the files in the folder. Much sharper than
I'm used to seeing.
I think I'll keep the Aperture 3 and use if for the purpose it's intended for in the future. I'll also redo the
image preview files to the small size it started with and then I'll copy all of the files I'm interested in from
iPhoto into a separate folder on another disk. I'll use Aperture to catalog and to perform image manipulations
on but I won't try to use it as an iPhoto replacement. I don't think I'll be using iPhoto much as an image
viewer in the future either after I finish moving my favorite pictures to the Phoenix Slides folder.

think you'd want to pay the small amount requested) and fast. My pictures have never looked so good
before.

IMovie Still Pic Show Problem

I'm newbie. Doing 85 slide show for 120 people next week. Show is done & copied to dvds for distribution but it will be shown at the remote site by an (unkown) XGA or SVGA projector and I'd like to use higher res for those greatly enlarged pics. Pics are show organized/tweaked in iPhoto to B&W. Then brought to iMovie where I've Ken Burns, dissolves, some specials, titled and laid sound. After learning this work flow and stopping corrections, crashes stopped. Now, however, want to show from iMovie to SVGA or XGA projector using untested Pro notebook. Rendering with high settings yields nice effects, sound and titles but v. poor photo quality. Using like Mpeg4 gives better photos but poor titles, sound, jerkiness. Any help?? Should I just try to run native? Want to use remote during church service. Thanks.

Guess everyone is on vacation already... Anyway, fiddling around, if anyone has the same problem, I found that the Sorenson3 compiler does the best job of what is needed.

Importing transitions from imovie to final cut problems

Hello, I made a musicvideo in imovie, it´s all finished with cuts and transitions but I want to make the "final touch" with balance, colours etc in final cut.
The problem: when I import the imovie project into final cut pro x the clips and the transitions changes the duration so the clips nolonger sync with the music and some of the clips are much longer/shorter than the original. I don´t want to do all the job again, editing and add new transitions in final cut as it already took me a long time......Anyone have any solution?

You can delete the transitions in iMovie and re-add them after importing into FCP X. Granted, this is some work, but it should not be all that much. It is easy to add a number of transitions and to set their parameters all at once.
Like BenB said, transitions behave differently in both programs, and they do not match, so this conversion can cause problems, as you are now well aware.

When I make a project in iDVD'09, there are sometimes green blocs with points flickering in some scenes of my iMovie-film. In iMovie there is no problem with this film, but the problem begins by exporting to iDVD and making a project there.

Can be a problem that get multiplied and visible when iDVD encode for DVD.
A. See if problem can be isolated to a single frame in the movie and re-import this clip and see if it's better
B. When free space on Start-Up hard disk goes low - strange things like this might occure. I never go under 25Gb free space on this Start-Up Mac OS hard disk !
C. Does this problem arises what ever encoding quality You use ?

For any iSight problems, first try restarting the Mac. If the problems persist, try all relevant suggestions from:

If your iSight problem still occurs in more than one app and more than one user account, the reset suggested there often restores proper function of inbuilt iSight.
However, if your built-in iSight still does not work after carefully following all the suggestions in the "How to Troubleshoot iSight" article, and if iSight does not show as a USB hardware device in your Mac's System Profiler utility, yours is most likely a hardware problem. In that case, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

IMovie 10.0 export problems

I am trying to export/share to film a 1 hr imovie presentation. When exported about half of the clip audios are only static. These problems are after the first 38 minutes. However there are a number of clips in this time that have the proper audio that goes with the clips. I have tried to export/share a few of the affected clips in a separate movie and the audio is fine when I do that. Has anyone had this same problem? Not sure if it is in the clips or the rendering.

IMovie to iWeb viewing problems

Thanks to earlier posts I have now been able to upload a movie onto my MobileMe website, I’ve done this by opening it in iMovie and going to Share, Media Brower, Mobile and Publish, then doing the approprite thing in the iWeb Inspector. I have not added a download option.
I can now open this myself, although both it and music files initially take some time to download. However, my fan club have had mixed experiences.
Most Mac users have no trouble, but one with an iMac (not sure which OS) gets sound but no vision.
Some PC users are OK, especially if they have QuickTime, but others have merely reported that they cannot get the video to play. Some of these can play audio tracks.
Two PC users have had serious problems. One said that his computer started to download; this was taking a long time and he had no way of stopping it. Also, the music tracks had no play bar.
I have been told about Vimeo and I may try that if all else fails. And I appreciate that some PC users are dinsoaurs, as one reply put it!
Any help and advice would be appreciated.

The problem is that iOS devices like the iPhone don't support it.
Using YouTube or Vimeo overcomes this problem. I prefer Vimeo and you can upgrade to a Pro account to get rid of the logo , advertising etc....
