IMovie 10.0.3 Photo Duration

How does one apply an adjustment in duration to all photos in a movie?  I have 198 photos and need to adjust them all at once.

Never mind--found it.

  • Photo duration in IMovie '08

I am doing a project that requires photo duration of longer than 60 seconds in some of the "photos". (Actually, Powerpoint slides converted to png.) I am doing narration and loops in GB with some of the regions longer than 60 secs., exporting to ITunes and then to IMovie. My audio is longer than my video. Is there are method of extending beyond 60 secs.?
    Thank you.

    Karstens,
Got correct file and moved to trash. It was in my Home/library. You were right as IMovie durations are now unfrozen. Also, I upgraded from ILife '08 to '09 as it allows me to set slide durations up to 10 minutes. Duplicating and multiple copies of a slide were not realistic for me, as some may be several minutes long.
Thank you again for your help.

  • IMovie 11  adjusting photo duration - won't change, various times showing!

H E L P!!!! I have just installed Imovie 11. I am in the finishing stages of a project which HAS TO BE COMPLETED in the next 2 days. I am having grief adjusting the duration for my still photos. I click on the COG - Clip adjustments - change the timing to 08:00 and tick the APPLIES TO ALL STILLS box. The clip won't change and some of them show 12s, some 10s ect. HOW DO I CHANGE THIS?? WHY IS IT SUCH A DRAMA??? I WANT MY STILLS to show for eight seconds only. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME???? THANK YOU

Many people have posted on this issue, including myself. I've spent a lot of hours on problem, and have come up with a solution that allows me to vary both the image duration and the transition duration in my movies.
Here's my process that I have posted before and that I still use:
-> Knowing that (a) I want most of the photos to be visible for 5 seconds and most transitions for 2 seconds and (b) that a transition takes half from the photo before and half from the photo after, under File>Project Properties>Photo Duration I chose 7 seconds - each photo will 'lose' a total of 2 seconds from the transitions in front and behind. I did not check either "Applies to all transitions." or "Applies to all photos." - See below for why.
-> I discovered that all the photos have to go in before I add any transitions. This was new to me. With all previous versions of iMovie I simply added a photo then a transition then another photo one at a time. I had to fiddle with the timing adjustments, but at least I could fiddle. With this new version of iMovie I can't. Once the transition is in place, I cannot change the duration of the photo.
-> Sometimes, I want a longer or shorter duration for a photo. For example, on photos to which I apply the Ken Burns effect, I often want the image on the screen for a slightly longer time. In this case, I have to use the inspector to change the duration before I add the transitions. So I might set the time for 8 seconds; when a two second transition is added before and after, the time for this photo becomes 6 seconds, which is what I want.
-> The same applies if I want a transition to be shorter or longer than 2 seconds. If, for example, I want the duration for a transition to be 1 second, then I have to change the duration on the two linked photos to 5 1/2 seconds.
Right now, I working with batches of 5 or 6 photos at a time. I don't put a transition on the last photo in the batch until I have added the next group of photos. And things get really tricky if I don't like my original design. If I want to change anything, I have to take out all of the transitions linking the photos I want to work on, do the math, make the changes in the photo durations, then put the transitions back.
All of this requires much more prior planning than I am used to with iMovie. I hope it helps those of you who are struggling with this problem.

  • Imovie cant see my photos.....

I was emailed jpeg photos to use in Imovie which i imported into iphoto. imovie sees all my photos except recently the imported ones. what am I doing wrong? I tried restarting everything, checking sharing preferences etc...all it sees is the folder title but wont drag & drop or import through the camera icon. I am perplexed..... any suggestions much appreciated.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Problems setting still photo duration??

How do you REALLY change and fit the transition and clip duration to what you want it to be? I have tried everything and researched it long enough. This has been a long-time problem with a lot of users - I'm surprised and disappointed Apple hasn't helped anyone through this by giving a solution THAT WORKS.
The last thing I tried was...
    delete all transitions
set the still photo duration to what I want it to be (3.0sec)
    add transitions back
But when I add them the still photo duration jumps to 4.0sec?? When I then go back and click on the photo to change duration for all photos, the time increases by 1.0 sec every time I adjust it back to my original 3.0 input. Right now it is at 8.0 sec???!!
Can someone help me with the steps to do this? I really don't want to start all over, I'd rather input photo settings for each picture then find the pictures again to add to my project.
*Yes I realize that the project settings (command+J) probably need to correspond - that is what makes sense to me, at least *

    Wait!
I think I figured it out - If anyone has this problem, go to preferences and "unclick" - ADD AUTOMATIC TRANSITION DURATION in Browser catagory at the bottom. Then hit command+J to go to project properties and know that PHOTO DURATION + TRANSITION DURATION = the number of seconds you see when you click on your still photo.
Hopefully that helps someone out there.

  • IMovie projects displaying wrong photos

After upgrading to iMovie 09, my old projects that were "in the works" now display the wrong photos. When I preview the movie, it has the right photos. I don't understand. Even the movies that were finished and put into iDVD now show the wrong photos in the Project window.

I am having the exact same problem. I can't seem to find a workaround, even duplicating the project file gave me the same issue. My best solution is you can make a separate project, drag the photos you want to show into there (with any transitions or effects you want) and then export that project as a separate QuickTime file. Then reimport that newly created movie and it will work because iMovie is reading your "photos" as a movie file now. I did this and it worked for me, even though I admit it's a pain. But at least I didn't have to start my project all over again. Good luck!

  • Imovie resetting photo duration after restart

ok, so I have several movie projects in imovie 08 without big issues, however, this time instead of using videos I used photos to create a video slideshow. I set the duration for the photos by clicking on the little "clock" button on the bottom of the picture and then checking the "apply for all photos", which did nothing to set the duration for every picture. I ended up setting the duration for the pictures on each one manually but when I reopen the program to work on the project later on it has already reset the duration of the pictures to random times. I also tried adjusting the duration by using the "project properties", but here is the same problem, it seems to reset itself to whatever it feels like...any suggestions on how to fix this issue?

yes please...have exactly the same question...anyone?

  • IMovie for iPad Photo Duration

Ok, this is driving me mad. I recently downloaded iMovie for iPad and am attempting to create a video consisting of photos and music. Each photo comes in with a duration of 4s and I would like to make each longer to, say, 6-8s. How? I don't want to spend countless hours clicking 75 photos and dragging them to near the desired length. Surely there's a way; if not, make one because this is a no brainer.

    Hi all
Found a really cool app called simpltransfer which allows you to transfer photos and video between iDevices!!
The app has a lite version (which allows you to transfer from within your 1st 50 files listed in your device's camera roll or photo library) for free download.
S now I can edit away on my iPad ... Soon to be uploaded to YouTube n Facebook for all my friends viewing pleasure!! LOL
More apps should have lite versions as trials!!! Too often I've paid the $1 or $2 only to be disappointed that the app does not live up to its claims ... Like 100 cameras in 1 for iPad.
Anyway .. Thanks for all the help!!

  • Can't set photo duration I want in iMovie

I have inserted a load of photos at the end of a video and I can't set the duration. If i input 0.10sec it jumps down to 0.05sec. Also if I am dragging the yellow handle in the project window and want to set a time of 0.50sec the timing goes straight from 0.29sec to 1.00sec. I have no transitions in the video or beat markers.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • IMovie11 - I Cannot Change Photo Duration

    This is so frustrating !
I load my photos in iMovie for a slideshow video, and it sets my photos for 8 second duration and won't let me change it. I have tried double clicking on the individual photos and changing it to 3 sseconds, and it accepts it, but when I go back and check, the photo is still 8 seconds.
I have also tried setting it so that all photos have the same duration of 3 seconds, but it doesn't work either. I also went into file > themes and set the default to all at 3 seconds, which it still shows in the setting, but the photos are all still around 8 seconds.
Has anyone else found iMovie to be very unfriendly, unstable, uncontrollable?
Can someone help me figure out why it doesn't respond to commands?

I am not sure what is causing this for you, but in general, I avoid checking anything in transitions or duration that says "Apply To All".
If you go to FILE/PROJECT PROPERTIES you can set the default action for when you add a photo. You can set the length and Ken Burns Effect, Crop or Fit. But do not check apply to current. You want it where you can adjust each one individually.
Another thing to be aware of is iMovie/Preferences. Two things here. You want to make sure the Advanced Tools are enabled. And for DISPLAY TIME AS: you have a choice. You can display time as hh:mm:ss:tenths or hh:mm:ss:frames.   If you select frames, you can edit to a finer level of precision. If you are doing all photos and no video, then editing to the nearest tenth is probably OK.
Also, when using transitions, you can select EDIT/TRANSITION OVERLAP/ALL-Maintain Clip Range.
The transition takes frames from the clip before AND THE CLIP AFTER.  You usually want to use ALL whe using video clips. The other option is EDIT/TRANSITION OVERLAP/HALF - Maintain Project Duration. This is OK to use if your project is all photos and no video. You can use it with video, too, but you have to be careful. Let's say you carefully edited out the section of the video clip where your aunt is picking her nose. If you select this option, iMovie has to find frames for the transition, so those frames that you carefully edited out may show up in the transition if they are adjacent to the frames you used.
One more thing... I would try your project with a tranition duration of 1/2 second and see if it performs OK. Then adjust from there.
