Imovie 10.0.4 locks up.

I have Imovie 10.0.4 and everytime i try to create a new project or upload clips the program shuts down my laptop. i re-start my laptop and a report is sent to apple. a stability update was installed july 2014 but nothing has changed!
i took my laptop to the apple store and they wiped my laptop and reinstalled ios mavericks, but no change. the imove app still doesn't work!

I don't like the "dumbed down" iMovie apps after 6HD. AND I found that by clicking off the waveform in the view dropdown, the problem with spliting an audio file ceases. Thanks anyway.

  • IMovie HD 6.0 LOCKS UP On Launch

I have spotlighted everything 'iMovie' and deleted the files. I have reinstalled this several times and cannot get past the startup screen.
When I click to start a new project and specify the location, a status appears, loads halfway, and never goes away. Sometimes it leads to other complication with my G5.
    What is causing this?

    1) Is there in fact a project named "My Great Movie" that iMovie is trying to open?
Upon first launch, I tried to create a new movie. The default file name was "My Great Movie". It asked to specify a location. Afterward, the smaller 'status bar' window appeared as if it were launching the program.
The status bar remains at the halfway mark, trying to load thumbnails or icons. The program will not load unless I work around it by going to the file menu.
    2) Does the problem occur when you launch iMovie by clicking the iMovie icon in the Dock? Or how exactly do you launch iMovie?
Both. I've completely removed it and reinstalled everything related to iMovie. I have a new icon in the dock and also have tried using the one in the applications folder.
    3) Does the problem occur when you launch iMovie by double-clicking some OTHER project?
Yes. I can bypass the 'locked' status bar window and select 'New' in the file menu. I specify a new name and location while the status bar zooms to complete. The program will then appear and I can work like normal. The status bar remains on screen saying that it's loading thumbnails or icons (at 100% complete).
Be sure to discard the iMovie preference file with iMovie NOT running. Otherwise iMovie will write the bad data back to the preference file as it quits.
I used spotlight to uncover everything iMovie related. I deleted .plist, .pkg, and everything else I could find. When I reinstalled, it does the same thing.
Odd, I know. I've got 6.0.1 and I'm running 10.4.6. I'm not sure what else to do!

  • IMovie 6.0.4 locks up with Mavericks

When I try to split an audio track, iMovoe 6 locks up. It did not do that in the previous OSX, but does so in Mavericks. I know Apple is not supporting iMovie 6HD, but why is this happening and is there any workaround besides not splitting an audio track?

  • IMovie is frozen and locked trying to import video

I was importing a basketball video when the screen filled with colors and after I hit stop import the program locked up. Every time I tried to quit iMovie it would not let me and even after I restarted my laptop iMovie was still locked and i couldn't use the program. Any ideas about how to get iMovie working would be appreciated.

I would suggest that you shut down iMovie, trash your preference files, and then try again.

  • How far are iMovie files backwards compatible?

Last night, I tried to create a project similar to something that I had done before--creating an iMovie from old analog 8mm videotape, using my Digital8 camcorder as a Firewire bridge or A/D converter. It didn't work! Somewhere along the line, Apple must have dropped this feature from iMovie.
Long story short, I dragged my old Quicksilver G4 tower with OS 9.2.2 and iMovie 2.1.1 out of the closet, and got back up and running with the analog import. Everything is going great on that computer.
Now comes the question. This tower doesn't have iDVD. Will I still be able to move my iMovie 2.1.1 files over to a modern Mac, open up the project, and export to iDVD for burning? If not, is there a work-around?
Thanks in advance for any advice!
    Curt

    Hey Curt
Your comment about the Digital8 camcorder via FW not being able to import into your iMovie08 struck me as odd since I am successfully importing from my Canon HV30 through a FW400  to FW800 cross-over cable to my new iMac 27" (with FW800) running Mt. Lion and the latest iMovie 9.0.8 that is in iLife'11. I have full control over my camcorder and the import process.
But I thought perhaps the A/D converter process (from your analog 8 to dv) might be some sort of reason you couldn't get the import to work. I decided to do some experimenting on your (and my) behalf.  I have a lot of Hi8 analog footage I play on a Sony EV-C100 Hi8 analog VCR plugged into a Canopus ADVC-100 A/D converter with FW400 output to the Mac. I use the S-video cable from the VCR into the Canopus with output thru the FW400 cable. In my situation the A/D converter is a box and therefore not controllable by the on screen controls in the import window so I must use my IR remote to control the VCR playback, clip locating, and stopping.
    Here is what I experienced.
My Hi8 through the A/D converter to iMovie'11 worked and I was able to successfully import my footage. But without software control I had to put the Import process in Manual mode. The program recognized the connected Canopus as an acceptable DV source ("cam"). I started the VCR and in about 30 seconds the iMovie import view screen locked into my DV signal and began displaying the video. The time code numbers were off but no biggie. I could then use my remote to move the tape to the desired clip locations and click the Import button during playback and it captured the footage. However since this was an A/D converter source iMovie was not able to break clips at each camera start/stop. One long continuous clip as long as I was importing/capturing but nothing that can't be dissected into pieces for use as you edit.
I've got iMovie'06HD on this Mac too. It runs fine on Mt. Lion. I booted it up and performed the same Hi8 import "test" with the same results. Manual control of the VCR but once it was running the video displayed in the Import window and importing worked as above....one long clip until I stopped the capture.
So your Digital8 camcorder not functioning with iMovie'08 is unusual. When I encounter such things I usually go through a typical routine of repairing permissions, then rebooting the Computer and then boot up the app. Try that BUT try booting iMovie with your camera already connected and powered up in VCR mode to see if that triggers recognition as the software loads. I've encountered that before on my G5 dually and iMovie'06 once in a while.
Another thing to try is manually playing your camcorder into iMovie and see if the app will eventually lock into the dv video signal like I experienced in my test with my converter. But with a Digital8 camera & FW it should give you camera control as that is a recognized/approved camera. A friend uses his Sony Digital8 with iMovie but don't know which version he runs.
Another test you could try is use your iMovie2 program to grab a one minute test clip and save it as an iMovie project. Then bring it over to your "modern" Mac and then right click the project file to "Open in iMovie" and see what the results are. You'll most likely get an Alert notice that says your project was created on an older version of iMovie and opening it in this version will convert it so that it won't open in the old program anymore. Not an issue in your case. If this works just grab all your clips in iMovie2 without any editing, transitions, titles or anything else. Just raw clips and bring the project into 08 that way. Then you won't lose any previous editing work that won't convert.
    Keep us posted.

  • Audio not synced after compression...

Hello! I am a newbie, and was wondering why during playback in FCE the audio and video is synced up great, but after I compress to AVI using the QuickTime Compressor everything goes out of whack on playback. My video needs to be very precise with the audio as one of them is a music video. I know in iMovie HD, you can "lock" audio to a certain video clip to prevent this, but have not found such a tool in FCE. Also, is there a way to lighten up dark footage? Need help fast, as the showing is tomorrow! Thanks so much in advance! Let me know if you need more info from me to figure out the prob.

Thanks so much. I will try the lightening method you suggested. It's good to know FCE locks the audio automatically. I kind of figured it would, but was surprised to see the delay in the audio upon playback. I have double-checked the project in FCE, and everything is in perfect sync there still.
Is there a possibility that different playback setups would not be able to handle high-quality video/audio files, and that could be the reason for the delay? I have an amazing system here, but my church (for which I'm doing the videos) does not. They are using an antiquated PC, using decent software, with an okay projector. Maybe their setup does not have enough RAM to keep up? Don't worry, I'm lobbying hard for an iMac next time around! LOL!

  • Any way to install on an early 2005 Mac Mini?

Is there some way I can bypass the seemingly artificial restriction by the installer and force installing of iMovie '08? I'm happy to use it at my own risk, accept glitches, not expect Apple to support it.
I frankly cannot believe that a 1.5 GHz machine with 1 gig of RAM should more than meet the Apple's stated system requirements for editing HD video with iMovie HD 6--http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imoviehd603.html says "1GHz G4 or faster processor and 512MB of RAM," but that the same machine should be incapable of editing standard video with iMovie '08. I want to try it and I'm willing to take my lumps if I'm wrong.
And, yeah, I'm a little p----d. I bought a Mac Mini in early January 2006. Pre-Intel, but the top of the Mac Mini line such as it is. 1.5 GHz processor, 1 GB RAM, Superdrive, etc. Apple bundled it with iLife '06 and specifically billed it as suitable for video editing, which it is.
My video editing needs are modest, and I would rejoice at the tradeoff of a less capable but easier and faster-to-use iMovie.
I'm locked out of the VERY FIRST UPGRADE offered to me since I bought the machine?

Not that I have found, sorry!

  • OS 10.3.9 and iLife '06

Has anyone had problems with iMovie using OS 10.3.9 and iLife '06?
Would the older operating system and the most recent iLife software ever cause a problem where an iMovie clip / photo would lock up, while allowing the music of the project to continue uneffected?
    Thanks for any insight.
    MW

    Hi.
    Here is what I have:
    I have a Power Mac G5, 1.6 GHz, Mac OS X (10.3.9), iLife '06,
    1 G RAM / QT 7.1.3 pro
This "locks up" (even though audio keeps going....) in regular iMovie.
I could go ahead and burn it and it is FINE. Doesn't "lock up" with QuickTime.
Could it be the "cache" on my extrernal hard drive vs. my "cache" on my Mac drive?? That was a suggestion from one of the Mac people....but I don't know how to find the cache on my LaCie 1 Terabyte external Hard drive...... so don't know if that is a problem or not??
    Hope this extra info helps.
If anyone can help, that would be fantastic.
Apple Care, Pro Care ~ no one can figure this out.
By the way, it doesn't always lock up on the same spot....sometimes it will, sometimes it won't.....but lately it IS A LOT!!!
    HELP??

  • How do I lock Audio clip at playhead in iMovie

    Hi,
I have been using iMovie HD for years.  Great program.  Finally had to move on to iMovie 10.  What a total disaster that is.  I have a myriad of issues with it, as does everyone else, but right now I am trying to figure out how to lock an audio clip at the playhead, as one essentially needs to be able to do for even pretty simple home movie edits.  Am I being stupid or has this functionality been entirely removed by some genius Apple programmer?  Why do I get the feeling that what used to be a brilliant and intuitive piece of software has been  completely eviscerated to the point of uselessness?
    Any ideas?  Thanks
    Richard

No, it's not been removed. You just need to drag your audio clip to the right place.
In your case, you want to drag it directly to the timeline and not to the background music well below the timeline.

  • Is there a way to lock or secure imovie and its files

Hello and as always thanks for all the help in my previous posts.
I frequently review and edit video that needs to remain secure during the editing process.
Before I import it and when I'm done with a project I can secure it in several ways, but while working on it in imovie its wide open to anyone who opens the app. My mac is under my control, but life goes on around my work and my Mac is used for other things as well.
Is there a way to either lock imovie so it can't be opened without a password and is there a way to hide/secure the folders the program uses?
    thanks in advance.
    Marc

The default location for your iMovie files is in your User account (the icon with the house on it).
Other users of the machine should have their own User account (guest user) and they will not have access to your files but can continue to use iMovie.

  • Can iMove files be save on iCloud or on a WebDAV sever also can you add a password lock in Apple config

I have a cart of iPads in my high school. Each iPad is shared by several students in different classes throughout the day. A clever student in one class decided to lock one of them. We have already unlocked it by restoring it, etc., but I'd like to prevent this from happening in the future.
How can I save iMove projects with out pluging the device into a computer?
is there a way in apple configurator to make the wallpaper unchangeable?

    Hi xxsaphy,
There is no way to get around the Activation Lock. This is a security measure that was added to iDevices with iOS7 to protect the original owner of the device:
    ACTIVATION LOCK
If you found it on the bus, then turn it in to the bus company. If it was a school bus, turn it in to the school. This device is of no use to anyone except the owner, and the most likely places they are going to look for it is where they may have lost it. Imagine if you lost your iPhone and you knew that the last time you remember using it was before you went on the bus. Wouldn't the first thing you would do would be to call the bus company to see if it had been turned in?
    Cheers,

  • My iMac "locks up" when I try to burn a slideshow made in iMovie to a DVD

When attempting to burn a slideshow I created in iMovie to a DVD (after exporting to iDVD), the video portion encodes without incident, but when the audio starts to encode, my computer "locks up." That is, the burn "wheel" stops turning, and I get a revolving color wheel at the pointer. I then can't exit iDVD, access any other application, or even shut down the computer. In fact, the only way I can shut the computer down is to turn off the power (i.e., disconnect the power cord). What makes this all the more frustrating is that I had no trouble of this kind the first time I tried burning a DVD from iMovie (a couple of months ago). It worked fine then.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Thanx. I guess that's a possibility. I waited for about an hour, however. I'll give it another try and see what happens.
It's likely not stalled but rather still encoding.
Takes a while & requires patience.

  • I have the new version of iMovie, and when i try to start the program, i can't because it says that it is looking for some movie files from the Iphoto, so all the program is locked up... how can i do to restart the program??

i have the new version of iMovie, and when i try to start the program, i can't because it says that it is looking for some movie files from the Iphoto, so all the program is locked up... how can i do to restart the program??

    Hi
Did You ever use - iPhoto ?
Did You may be direct iPhoto to a different Photo Library
As iMovie tries to find the appropriate photo library - it can get lost if iPhoto direct it into a Library on a not connected external hard disk or to a strange location - And iMovie HANGS.
Do - When no other program is running that might interfere
    • Start iPhoto - BUT NOW KEEP alt-key (option key) DOWN during the full Start-Up process
    • Now iPhoto let's You select Photo Library
    • Select the one in Your Account / Home folder / Pictures ! !
    • Then iPhoto should start up OK
    • Now Quit iPhoto
    • START iMovie
Does it still hangs - then I would suspect - iMovie Pref. file
If it Run's OK - Then HURRAY !

  • Imovie "locking up"

Lately, imovie has been locking up, giving me the spinning rainbow ball, whenever I open an existing project. Therefore I can't work on the project, play it or do anything because the spinning rainbow ball won't let anything happen.
A typical project will have somewhere between 50-100 Gigs of space available to it so it's not a space issue.
The project will probably have dv imported, still photos, transitions, audio separated, music which has been edited and probably 10-15 minutes in length.
I've cleared preferences, run utility on the hard-disk, everything I can think of or find in these forums.
    Any ideas or experience?

Thank you for responding. The music comes from audio CD's, not iTunes. I'm not sure why that would effect the entire project from locking up for long periods of time with the rainbow ball just spinning.
Any other ideas how I can fix this so iMovie runs?

You used the data.  Verizon can not see what it was sued for.  However your phone can see whats apps used the data.  go to settings-data usage- there will be a place that says data usage cycle.  line the dates up with your cycle.  then there will be a bar graph below that   extend bother white bars one all the way to the left and one all the way to the right.  after those are extended below that will be a list of apps,  there should be one that used over 2 gb and that will show you what app used that data in her purse
