IMovie 10.0 contains glitch. Clips become tinted red when imported.

Just throwing it out there. You are not alone. It was reported to Apple that some imported clips become tinted red in the newest version. A news article. If you would like to help, does anyone have a work around. I must finish an editing project and I've tried everything. After the first few clips, the rest are red. Tried restarting, quiting and reopening, every setting.

I just found the solution for others experienceing this. It seems it happens most with .mov files. I changed to a mp4 by changing the file extension but iMovie still turned it red. The way I found is to convert it using SmartConverter in the app store for OSX to the iPad option.

    How can I stop iMovie from making thumbnails of clips from past projects when first opening the program to digitize new clips for a new project. It takes forever for it and is very annoying. I have looked in the preferences and couldn't figure out what would disable this problem.

    You do not need to move your cursor much when pressing the mouse button to cause the tab to tear-off/tear-away into a new tab. No "sensitivity" setting that I am aware of. The tab in the new window can be dragged back to the original window.
    To disable the feature, install this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bug489729-disable-detach-and-t/

  • How do I correct the darkest blacks from becoming bright blue when imported into LR?

    When shooting in RAW with a Sony RX100M3 the darkest blacks become bright blue when imported into LR. Any ideas when this happens and how I can fix it?

    If this is occurring in the develop module the you have the shadow warning turned on and this shows as blue, just like the highlights show as red. You can turn this off by clicking the triangle in the upper left hand corner of the histogram.

  • How do I get audio back on single clip that loses audio when imported into Premiere Pro CC?

    I've got one clip out of many that for some reason won't play any audio when imported into Premiere Pro.  I am new to Premiere Pro so am hoping it's something stupid I've done, but this is a problem with just a single clip exported the same way as all my others, the original audio is loud (not quiet) and none of the FAQ issues seem to apply (ie I haven't muted the audio or anything stupid like that)
    The clip was exported from Plural Eyes into a "master" Premiere Pro project where the audio is fine. I exported it as a short MP4 clip and if I play the clip in Windows Media Player the audio is there loud and clear.
    But when I import the clip into a fresh Preimiere Pro CC project this clip appears with just the "film strip" icon on the far left in the Timeline panel, unlike other clips which have an icon that shows "film strip" in the background and "audio wave" in the foreground.
    I'm hitting so many glitches with the CC editions of Premiere Pro and After Effects which have annoying inconsistencies between them I'm tempted to just go back to Sony Vegas Pro (single program, no hassle) but hoping most of these issues are down to "newbie incompetence". Very hard to understand why this one clip out of many should be giving me this specific problem though. Any ideas?

    I'm getting so many weird results. Most go away by simply closing the project and re-opening and I only have 6GB memory but even so, I'm disappointed by what I thought was supposed to be more "world class" video editing software than Sony Vegas Pro which I found to be a lot more stable. Also struggling with differences between Premiere and After Effects. Every time I want to do something in Pro I seem to need to go to After Effects and vice-versa. After Effects lets me do more of what I could "just do" in Vegas Pro timeline, but it's hideous for lining up audio and having to render anything in RAM to even get a clue as to what a change has done.  Need to add Audition to the long list as well I suspect. Fun times!

  • How do I keep .mov clips from being squashed when imported into iMovie HD6?

    Hi there! First time poster... Hoping someone can help me out with this:
    I've stupidly shot some footage with my digital camera sideways, portrait-style. I used QuickTime Pro 7 to rotate the footage clockwise, preserving the aspect ratio, so now the .mov clips are 480x640 pixels (so 3:4, instead of the standard 4:3).
    When I import the clips into iMovie HD 6, the footage gets squashed to fit the 4:3 screen, making everyone look shorter and fatter. The Help file advises that iMovie "automatically adjusts incoming footage to fit the screen size (aspect ratio) of your project".
    Is there some way I can opt out of this automatic adjustment? I'd prefer to have black bands on the sides of the screen than squashed video!
    Thanks for any help you can give. Cheers!

    You'll need to make an all black 640X480 image file and add it to your video.
    Adjust its layer so it is in the background and then reduce the dimensions of your video so it fits over it.
    Bring this new file into iMovie.

  • Imported Rotated Clips get Squished vertically when imported

    Had clips taken vertically and used Quick Time Pro to flip 90 degrees and look fine in Quick Time player. But when I put into iMovie and preview they are compressed vertically so everyone looks FAT!! Tried Final Cut Express Classic version and MPEG streamclip but cannot find a solution. I reviewed some similar posts but did not find the solution yet. John

    Thank you very much Lennart. Still took me a while to get it right. The trick was to start with the sideways clip, rather than first rotating with Quicktime. When I exported and rotated in one step per the MPEG Streamclip instruction it worked fine and then opened great in iMovie 6. Appreciated quick help!!

  • Movie clips have wrong time when importing

    I use to rename my images before importing to iPhoto. I copy them from my camera to a folder in the desktop, rename everything to my like using Adobe Bridge, and then I import them to iPhoto. That way the name of a file usually corresponds to the one in the internal Library (control-freak as I am). That said, I never mess with the Library.
    But I'm having this problem all the time: After importing, all the image pictures are listed on the event accordingly to their correct date/time, but the movie clips are not. They always have an irregular variation in time, sometimes with a difference of several hours, that I have to change manually using iPhoto "adjust date/time" to have them sorted ok chronologically. The strange thing is: that EXIF data is correct in Bridge! I even use this to view/reference the correct time in Bridge, and change it on the movie file already imported in iPhoto.
    Could this be a bug in iPhoto, or is there something wrong with my way of importing? Again, it happens only to the movie files, not the images.
    Thanks.

    Thank you. I didn't know that.
    But still, for me it's a common issue to have iPhoto reading a wrong "File Created" data on my imported movies, even though it seems to be OK on the original file. Does it ever happen to you, know about that issue? Sometimes I have ten or more movie clips in an event and it's a bit of a hassle to restore manually the correct time for each one.
    Maybe it's Bridge fault, maybe it's iPhoto, maybe my workaround is the only answer to this "bug"?
    Thanks again.

  • Pictures are tinted red when playing on TV

    Has anyone experienced and/or solved this issue? When playing pictures from the library (not streaming) they are all tinted with a reddish hue. This happened after a few hours of normal operation. I restarted the machine and it did nothing to help the problem. i checked all the cables, the component cables are set correctly.i checked the TV colour menu, and everything is set correctly. i set the machine back to factory standards and after syncing the library again, i still get that red tint.
    i bought this as a gift to a family member, but it's been more of a hassle than a gift...
    anyone has any ideas?

    Sounds odd.
    Do movie/video trailers look red too? If so I'd suspect a loose connection in the leads or a failure of the TV component input or AppleTV component output - can you try a DVD player or something with component output to see if it narrows it down to AppleTV?
    I assume the photos look ok on the synced computer - it is possible that the synced computer has a badly uncalibrated monitor and that the user has made the photos look good on the monitor which then causes them too look bad on a decent display. long shot that though. Is the famly member syncing from PC or Mac?
    Any chance the images are in some peculiar colour space which AppleTV isn't handling?
    Can you burn some images to a CD/DVD and display them via a DVD player - if so and they look odd it's likely to be the images.
    Any example images you can post?

  • HT5148 Why did my clip turned red when importing from QT to FCPX?

    Hello. When I import my saved screenshot clip (Quicktime) to FCPX for assignment. It automatically turned red. I tried different ways of turning it back to orginial color. I failed. Help? pease....

    Tom Wolsky wrote:
    QuickTime screen captures don't work in FCP.
    I think this a little too definitive. I have used these captures in FCP X, so I would not make such a blanket assumption.
    I do reallize that issues are likely to arise, mostly due to inconsistent frame rates.

  • HD Clips ALWAYS need rendering when imported??

    I am shooting 1280x720 30fps HD on a SANYO Xacti camera. They are shot in mP4 format. I believe I need to convert them PRIOR to importing them into FC Studio. Any suggestions on settings using Compressor?? Or what settings in FCP?? I can preview the clips from the card by selecting the icon and pressing the space bar. Plays beautifully. However, when I import them into FCP I drag them to the timeline and the audio is RED and needs rendering. No biggy. However, when I add camera two footage BOTH audio and video are RED. 5 HOURS!! to render before editing. HELP! I am shooting using H.264 - my FCP settings are Apple ProRes 422 1280x720 30fps 48kHz. and H.264

    Your footage is H.264...A non-native editing codec with FCP. This won't work without rendering as your sequence settings differ from your footage. Either convert to ProRes before editing (highly preferred), or make custom settings with H.264 (possible, but not the best way to go).

  • P2 clips out of sync when imported

    Using log/transfer on FCP 7.0.3 to import P2 panasonic 23.98 clips. Has always worked fine BUT this time clips cannot play audio. They play fine in the log/transfer preview, but not as clips in the project.
    Any ideas?

    Did you overcrank the footage, shooting 24pn over 60?
    If so, no sound is recorded

  • Clips become partly invisible

    I'm having this strange problem with iMovie HD:
    Everytime I put clips into the clips sequence the last seconds of the clips become invisible. When put back into the clip viewing panel these last seconds become visible again.
    Sounds familiair to anyone?
    I'm using Snow Leopard. Does this have anything to do with it?

    Hi
    No not familiar - see if anything in my list helps
    *Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Delete iMovie pref file - or rather start a new user/account - log into this and re-try
    iMovie pref file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
    and is named. *com.apple.iMovie.plist *
    While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iMovie.
    • Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Garageband-fix. Start it, Play a note and Close it. Re-try (Corrects an audio problem that hinders iMovie)
    • Screen must be set to Million-colors
    • Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK (not relevant for iMovie’08 or 09)
    iMovie updated ?
    QuickTime updated ?
    Mac OS version ?
    • Program miss-match. iMovie 5.0.2, up to Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK
    • Program miss-match. iMovie 6.0.3 or 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iMovie’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    From LKN 1935. (in this case = iMovie HD (5), I tried it all, but nothing worked.
    Your answer (above) has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that
    there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled
    iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos)
    to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before.

    I run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac.

  • Clips become blurry in iMovie editing

    I am working on an iMovie '09 (version 8.0.6) project that uses .mov files created with a screen recording application and trimmed with QuickTime.  I have imported all these files in their full, original size, and they all looked great in the editing process when I would preview the movie full screen.  I opened iMovie a week later, though, and some, but not all, of the clips now appear blurry when I preview the movie.  Nevertheless, when I find the imported .mov files in the project library folder and open them with QuickTime, the clips still look great.
    I cannot figure out what is causing this annoyance (since I cannot detect any other differences between the blurry and clear clips), let alone how to fix it.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreaciated.  Thanks!

    I dont like to keep aperture on my system drive because it is getting so big, and I would be using close to 75% of the drive space (never a good move in my book)
    You might consider to keep your library on your MBP, but relocate those master image files to an external drive, that you will not be needing in the near future (but such a "mixed-masters" scheme - some referenced - some not- will require you to be well organized and to keep track of your storage scheme).
    I keep only my most recent projects mananged, and all older projects are referenced to my media drive.
    On the front of self contained movies, I dont think aperture can make the distinction can it?  For reference they are just files from a DSLR, which have still and movies.
    I have not yet explored that properly (I never tried AVI), but I found that Aperture just imports any movie - self contained or not - into the library, and as long as the referenced video clip was on the same disk it worked.

  • Flex won't display a child of a container movie clip

    I have a Container Movie clip called frameContainer in wich I load new Frames( a symbol from flash), with this function:
                 var i:Number=0;
                frameContainer.x=48;
                xPos=0;
                do
                    frames.push(new Frame());
                    frameContainer.addChild(frames[i]);
                    slideshow.push(false);
                    frames[i].index=i;
                    frames[i].f.width=frameWidth;
                    frames[i].f.height=frameHeight;
                    frames[i].x=xPos;
                    frames[i].y=0;
                    xPos+=frames[i].f.width+10;
                    frames[i].f.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP,fMouseClickOnFrame,false,0,true);
                    i++;
                }while(xPos<200)
                frameNumber=i;
                this.addChild(frameContainer);
    The previous function works great.And I have a function called addNewFrame() which adds a new Frame at the end:
           private function addNewFrame():void
                frames.push(new Frame());
                frameContainer.addChild(frames[frameNumber]);
                frames[frameNumber].f.width=frameWidth;
                frames[frameNumber].f.height=frameHeight;
                frames[frameNumber].x=xPos;
                frames[frameNumber].index=frameNumber;
                xPos+=frames[frameNumber].width+10;
                frameNumber++;
                frames[frameNumber-1].f.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,fMouseClickOnFrame,false,0,true );
    But, for some reason, the new frame can't be seen. When I type just
    addChild(frames[frameNumber]);
    (instead of  frameContainer.addChild(frames[frameNumber]) )
    it works great. Also I can access the new frame with the getChildAt method, the only, and biggest problem is that I can't see that new frame when I add it as a child of the frameContainer movie clip.
    Can someone please help

    Same thing in iMovie '09 I just noticed. But it renders, so I guess who cares.
