Imovie 10 events now alphabetical not date order

My events are all in alpahabetical order in the sidebar, how do I change this to date order the same as they were in iMovie 11?
I also think I am missing a lot of footage. Many of my events don't seem to be there! If it was in date order (by title as it used to be) it would be easier to see this or not.

Because of the alphbetical order it is no longer easy for me to detremine the timing of the video.  This is probably true for everyone.  Does the video store the date the video was taken (similar to photo metadata) and if so how do I access that information in iMovie?

  • My Recently Added is now sorted by Alphabetical not Date added

    Hi there,
So i just plugged my iphone in to update my music and i went to click recently added to listen to some but for some reason it was sorted in alphabetical rather than date added, i really need the function of date added to i can get all the newest music i put on.
If anyone can help that would be great

I have just redone my recentl added playlist and ordered it by date. When i sync to my iPhone it displays in the same date order
Try recreating the recently added playlist
Here is my Smart Playlist. Looking at it again if you see i have the limit items selected by most recently added. Maybe that is what is different

  • Change iPhoto events in Aperture to date order, instead of ABC?

    Hi
I like how Aperture 2.0 works with iPhoto imports better, listing events. However, it lists my iPhoto events in ABC order. I'd much prefer them to be listed in order by the date they were shot or whatever like in iPhoto. Anyway to do this?
    Thanks so much!!!

If, like me, you used Events as your main organizational tool - you will really be disappointed in Photos.   My Albums transferred, but I had over 100,000 pictures, taken over 13 years and organized mostly by the "Event/Title" line above each group of pictures.   Those titles did not transfer to Photos.
They do have an Album titled iPhoto Events and a lot of events are in there - however, not all and they are in a completely random order.   In my case, over 3,000 events with absolutely no way to find anything other than scroll through or possibly search.  Also, at this time there is no way to move forward with Event organization as it does not exist.   There is not way in Photos to label each days photos with an event or title.   It's like one big huge shoebox with date order the only organization.  Ridiculous.
I mostly use a 35mm SLR Camera without any GPS designation - so I now have 109,000 photos in one big list organized by nothing but the date taken or scanned.
I have also scanned a lot of family history photos and old family photos - fortunately I put most of those in Albums - otherwise Photos is very excited to just list them according to the date I scanned them which has nothing to do with the content of the photo.
Definitely back up your iPhoto before you do anything.   I am looking for an outside program that will continue my organization and not throw everything out on the whim of people who just use photos for social media and sharing.   This change made me realize that Apple has no intention of creating and keeping a serious organization system for amateur and professional photographers who have a large number of files that need to be organized and kept for many years.

  • Problems syncing photos; they sync in random order not date order.

Since updating my iPad 2 to iOS 5 my photos won't sync in date order within their folders. They used to stay in the same date order as they are on my PC before the update. I've tried deleting all photos and then putting them all back on but no luck. Any ideas?

I've checked out lots of the other discussions on this problem and some think it's a change in the ordering in the iOS 5 update; previously they were synced by date but now it's by file name. This doesn't follow for mine though as they aren't syncing in file name order either. Someone suggested trying to rename files which I think I'll try next but I don't hold out much hope! I tried the Genius bar but the "genius" had no ideas! Tried apple support but it wants me to pay a one off fee to get any help. I don't think it's too much to ask to have your photos in chronological order, after all that's what we used to do in good old-fashioned photo albums!
Nice to hear I'm not the only one frustrated though- thanks for the reply!

  • Why are iMovie events (2400 of them) shown in the iDVD movies pane along with my iMovie projects (12 of them)?

Why are iMovie events (2400 of them) shown in the iDVD movies pane along with my iMovie projects (12 of them)?

Sorry about the delay in responding, I've been putting up with a very slow iDVD, but now I'm fed up with it again. My version of iDVD is 7.1.2 (1158) running in Mac OS X, version 10.6.8, with 3.2GHz and i3 processor, 4GB of memory, on a desktop iMac. My version of iMovie'11 is 9.0.4 (1634).
I can stop iDVD from showing iMovie EVENTS (now 3247 of them) in its Media pane under Movies, by moving the iMovie Events folder from the iMovie folder ( that iDVD ALWAYS looks in) to somewhere else in that Directory (where I store all my data, and which I have named "browning").  But then iMovie can't display the EVENTS, because it is looking in the wrong place. So, how can I save iMovie Events in another folder (not iMovies) but somewhere where iMovie will find them?
Is there a method to change the default folders for iMovie and/or iDVD? How does iMovie know where the iMovie default directory is?
Should I put iMovie into the "Main" Mackintosh HD directory?
The Apple Store in Bath, UK, couldn't help, but surely I'm not the only iDVD user who is annoyed with this process?
    HELP, please

  • IMovie wants to save iMovie Events at root level of local harddisk

I work on a network user. When I want to import movies from my camera iMovie wants to save the clips at /iMovie Events.localized. How can I change the destination folder.
When I start iMovie only the iMovie Projects folder is created. The iMovie Events folder is not created. I tried to delete the preferences for iMovie7 in ~/Library/Preferences but no success. iMovie still wants to store all clips at root directory. When I create the iMovie Events folder at root level and grant access to it, the import works.
Any suggestions how to get rid of that?
    Thanx in advance
    Gerhard

If you're copying a movie file directly from a camcorder to place it on your hard disc (..as distinct from "importing" from the camera into iMovie..) then iMovie may recognise the locally-stored file as a camcorder's material only if it's in the root directory.
HOWEVER, you can tell iMovie to put its imported iMovie Events folder wherever you want: I keep mine on a separate internal hard disc (..we-ell, a couple of fast hard discs combined as a 'RAID'..) on my G5 PowerMac.
The iMovie program itself is in 'Applications' on the startup hard disc, the iPhoto Library (..for importing stills..) is on a second internal hard disc, and the iMovie Events folder is on the RAID disc.
That way, the Mac can import video without affecting the main hard disc, and any 'housekeeping' or indexing which the system wants to do on that disc.
Normally, iMovie will put your iMovie Events folder in the 'Movies' folder of your own User identity. How did I get mine on my RAID drive..? It's so long ago that I don't remember.. But I think that I just dragged it there from its original place, and when iMovie later said that it couldn't find it, it also asked where to look, and I just pointed it to the RAID drive. Runs OK for me.

  • Photos. They are on my macBook, backed up on time machine. Copied them (hours and hours) to external hard drive. They are now in alphabetical order (19,000  of them) NOT IN THEIR EVENTS or date order-and have been taken with different cameras- help!!!!!!

    Photos.
They are on my macBook, backed up on time machine. There are 19,000+ of them, some rescued from a pc crash- which I used the nifty iPhoto to put back into date order.
I want to take them all off my laptop, now............as I need to use it for WORK!!
Copied them (hours and hours) to another external hard drive.
They are now in alphabetical order (all 19,000+ of them) NOT IN THEIR EVENTS or date order. (-They have also been taken with different cameras over the years and some of the generic camera numbering remains.)
I have tried to copy them (only a few as an experiment)  one event at a time, but that again "opens up" the Event "folder" and tips them out as individuals and therefore just lists image letters and numbers alphabetically.
    How can I copy
the whole library still in  "Events" to an external hard drive?
the folders/albums I have already made on to this hard drive?
and how can I add to this back up monthly, again keeping events and folders separate and updated?
Mac is so user friendly - there must be a way.........
    Thanks

UPDATE : I have re-installed from disk, various apps that were no longer functioning such as iLife, iWork etc. So, I now can access my photos again.
Also, I had to re-install all the software for my printer ( Stylus Pro 4880 ) and reset it so the printer is working again.
Photoshop CS4 won't open. I think I will have to get in touch with Adobe as basically, I guess they have a built-in "blocker" which prevents me from opening the app as the license is for only 1 user and having re-installed the OS, there are now, in effect, 2 users ( Me and Me 1, I think ).
So, having added on a new external HD, Time Machine has made a copy of most of the files, folders, apps etc onto the external HD. The internal HD is still nearly full ( 220 GBs out of 232 GBs ).
I am guessing the way to go now in order to free up space on the internal HD is to delete/trash older photos from my iPhoto library and hope that if needed, I will be able to access them on the external HD.
Am I correct ? Please advise before I do something I will regret.
    Thanks, Sean.

  • In iMovies, can I arrange the events in date order, i.e. year and/or month that the movies relate to?

In iMovies, can I arrange the events in the Events Library in date order, e.g. 1994 - Sports Day; 1991 - John's christening; 1993 - Christmas?

If you import from a digital camera or camcorder, iMovie will automatically store your events in date order.
However, if you imported clips from an analog camcorder, like VHS or 8MM or Hi8, iMovie does not have any metadata to work with.
In this case, there are two ways to add back this metadata.
The simplest way is to right click on your Event clip and select Adjust Clip Date And Time. Do this for all clips in the event.
The other way is to name your clips before importing to imovie in this format:
    clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss.ext
where hh is hours in 24 hour time, and ext is the current file extension. If you name your clips this way, and then import to iMovie through FILE/IMPORT MOVIE then the clips will sort into the proper year.

  • Apple TV (1st gen) photos in an Event not in date order

I have synced selected Events from iPhoto to my Apple TV 1st gen with iTunes 11.0.1
The events synced are "merged" events from 2 cameras on a month-by-month basis.
In iPhoto, I have the event sorted by date, but on the Apple TV, the photos are NOT in date order.
How can I get the Apple TV to reflect the choice I make in iPhoto ??

    Thanks Winston

  • I just upgraded to iPhoto 11. My events are not sorted in date order even though I have chose it to under the view tab????

I cannot get my photos in date order in iPhoto 11 What can I do to remedie this?

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • How do i import my iMovie event library to FCPX when the iMovie library is NOT in the home folder.

    my situation:
my MBP is running two drives:  a 160gb SSD that has my home folder, OS and all apps, and a 500gb HDD for data and non-essential software.
the HDD used to be my OS and home folder, so I used to run iMovie off it.  but after installing the SSD, i am now running Lion off it, and it is now my new home folder.
so my iMovie events are now marooned on my ex-home folder, on what is now my HDD data drive.
I can import iMovie events no problem, as FCPX prompts for where the project files are.  but FCPX doesn't prompt for the location of the iMovie events library, so how do i get those old iMovie events in?
i suppose i could copy all the events over to my SSD, then do the import, and then delete them.  but that would take up a lot of space, and id rather not be copying and deleting so much data on the SSD.
    is there any other way?

It is definitely to your advantage to use the FCP command to Import your iMovie Events all at once. The reason is you will not double up on space. FCP will create a hard lingk to your events so you can access them in FCP without altering the iMovie Event in any way, but without doubling the space.
So there are several ways you could approach this.
    1) If you are not using iMovie anymore, you could simply move them to the iMovie Event folder at the top level of either your old drive, or any attached drive that is formatted correctly (Mac OS Extended (journaled). This would likely break any iMovie Projects that you currently have, so it is not recommended if you will continue to use iMovie.
    2) If iMovie is still working, you can use iMovie to move the Events to a proper drive. Click VIEW/EVENTS BY DISK in iMovie, and Command-Drag in iMovie to Movie Events to the drive you want while maintaining your project links. This option is probably only available to you if you have set up your old drive as your official Home directory.
    3) As long as you set your "old" drive to be your Home Folder in OSX, you can just leave them where they are. OSX lets you have the Home folder on a different drive than your startup drive. This is not ususally recommended, but it is useful when you have an SSD. When I got my current Mac with an SSD, I moved my home folder to the internal hard drive but OSX and my Apps are on the SSD.
To do this, I followed the advice of longtime poster Pondini, who has a great website that walks you through this.
    Here is a link.

How can I burn a copy of my project to a DVD . I do not have IDVD because I have the Lion OS. I did purchase Wondershare for burning but it will not load the iMovie events or projects

There is no proper substitute for iDVD.
Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac?

    UPDATE & ADDENDUM:
But even though you can still buy iLife 11 that includes iDVD 7 from Amazon, Apple now make it difficult to install:
Poster jhb21939 posted this in another thread:
“when I attempted to load iDVD into a new iMac. A notice came up on the screen stating that the 'Authorisation Licence' had expired on 25 March this year (2012).
I contacted the Apple support team and eventually, I was told that the Licence had been withdrawn and could no longer be used.”
In other words Apple are now so adamant that we don’t use iDVD that they have tried to make it impossible to install.
In response, Old Toad posted this solution:
“You can still use it one all of your Macs.  If you get an invalid certificate message just set your Mac's clock to sometime before early 2011 and run the installer.  After you're done reset the time back to the correct time.” He added this comment:
“It began after iDVD and iWeb were discontued and they were dropped from the Apple Store. All I can think of is the certificate was set to expire after a certain time period after the intitial iLife disc was released.
I've been able to use the installer even without setting back the date.  I just clicked on the Continue button and it would work as expected.  For some it would not continue unless the date was set back.”
The latest anorexic iMacs just announced do not even include a CD drive! Proof positive that Apple virtually prohibit the use of DVDs - although the newly announced Mac Minis do include a Superdrive.
Yet, they still include iMovie! Heaven alone knows or understands what you are supposed to do with your newly edited masterpiece - except make a low quality version for YouTube?

  • IMovie can't find events now moved to a new internal drive

I installed a second 1Tbit drive and moved my photos, movies, music and documents from the primary drive to the new drive. I also created alias's for each of these folders.
Although iTunes didn't care about the alias, and Aperture reset it's file location automatically as well - the media browser had a problem. I have the new version of iLife but had not yet opened iPhoto - but when I did it rebuilt it's library and then showed up. Deleting the alias for the photo folder entirely let Aperture show up - but iMovie is whacked. I can see only one simple short event that I had opened immediately after installing iLife - even though this event is no longer on the main drive, it's over on the second drive and "Show in Finder" clearly showed it in the new location.
But all the other events and video files are not visible. I can see them in Finder, and if I click on them I get to see them play just fine. But attempts to import them return an error
    Copy Failed
This file could not be copied:
    /Volumes/RR-2nd TB/y User Files/Movies/iMovie Projects.localized/Teah ISR Second Year - Larg.m4v
    (File not Found)
But the file is most certainly there and the file opens just fine if I click on it. As the alias for the folder seemed to be an issue for Photos, but once deleted Media Browser could indeed see the Aperture library, I have also deleted the alias file for iMovie - no improvement.
I have deleted and let recreate the preferences file - but this only removed the one file I could see.
Both drives are Mac OS Extended (Jorunaled) - and both report no errors.
Trying this and that, iMovie has created a new folder for iMovie Events on the second drive, and if I move things into this they suddenly appear - but not my projects.
I can certainly move the Movie folder back to the main drive, but the intent was to free up space on that drive, and to increase performance by having the application on one drive and the user data on another.
I can't be the only person to ever move the Movie folder - but I can't find any current and helpful info on the matter. I do see that a few others have recently expereinced some issues with external drives and iMovie - might be a similar issue.

You can move Projects and Events to and external drive, but you must move them from within iMovie. If you move them using the Finder, it will make the projects unusable.
I would recommend that you move all projects and events back to your original drive.
Then open iMovie and verify that all is well.
Now, click View/Events by Disk, and you should see your new drive in the Events List on the left.
To move an event, hold the command key while dragging the icon for the event to the icon for the disk in the iMovie Event List.
To move a project, hold down the command key while dragging the Project icon to the icon for the new drive in the Project List.
Doing it this way will preserve the links between your Projects and your Events.

  • Imovie events out of order

Since ive upgraded to imovie  in Maverick all of my events are not in order according to dates the clips were taken.  They all out of order. is there an easy way to have the events in order according to date the video clips were taken?

Unfortunately this appears to be a bug in 10.0. See https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5468703?tstart=0
