IMovie 10 scrambled graphics

I upgraded my iMac 2007 to iMovie 10 - it is having major issues converting a movie to the theatre/iTunes. The graphics is scrambled. Any ideas as to what might be going on?

  • Scrambled graphics in iMovie and iPhoto

When using iMovie and Wondershare Video Editor I get scrambled graphics which has now spread to iPhoto. Will my iMac recover by itself or is this a sign of a damaged graphic card or similar. Graphics on the internet seem to be working OK. I'm using 4GB ram, is this perhaps not enough memory for intensive work with video editing and editing in PhotoShop?

Be patient. Apple's servers are currently inundated. Try again later or tomorrow.

  • X60, x60s scrambled graphics in outlook express

I have a very strange problem with my x60(1706-8DU).  The problem only occurs in Outlook Express under XP Pro.  I can't read HTML messages and I can't reply to msg's at all.  When I read msg in HTML, the message is grayed out.  I can read only if I convert to text only.  If I try to reply to the message(either in HTML or text), the reply area consists of scrambled graphics of the background and I can't type in the reply at all.  Originally, I thought my xp was corrupted and I reformated the drive with system restore. the problem gone away for a little while and it came back.  I had changed all the RAM and that didn't help.  I also requested and received a new drive and the replacement drive and that didn't help either.  I had since get an non-Lenovo drive and the problem seem to had gone away.  I have a friend who has a x60s(only 6 months old) and she has exactly the same problem.  I reformatted her drive and this problem came back right the way.  Has anybody got the same problem and how did you solved it?  Thx

  • Applications launcher popup - Scrambled graphics

    Hello,
I am getting a very very strange UI bug in OS X Lion (both 10.7.2 and 10.7.3).. When I click on my applications folder in the dock, the launcher window that pops up has very warbled and scrambled graphics.  Pieces are being drawn in the wrong place and are stretched out beyond their inherent resolutions etc.  It's not a very dangerous problem but it does trouble me that such a major part of the UI is completely messed up like that.  I am using a Mac Mini 2011.

A minor update and kudos for Lenovo/IBM support:
A couple of phone calls to IBM (who service/support Lenovo here) and the machine has been picked up by a courier (within 90 minutes, which is great!). What was particularly good was that the gent from IBM Brisbane asked me at the beginning of our conversation whether I was technical, and when I said "yes", he didn't stuff me around - we got straight to the meat of the problem and had narrowed it down to a hardware problem pretty quickly. I cannot begin to tell you how much that means: in the past, I've had Dell tech support on the phone asking me to reinstall Windows over Linux on a failed hard drive before they would accept that it had failed, and similar nonsense from help desk people who insist on going through a script that doesn't even make sense if the user is completely clueless.
Sounds like this will be a system board replacement, and since it has to be back-ordered (made worse by the CTO nature of the machine) it will be a couple of weeks. Hopefully, I'll be able to check the "Solved" icon then.

  • "Scrambled" graphics at boot - MSI 6600GT, Neo4-f mobo

I've tried the search option and I don't seem to be able to find this exact problem, but here it goes:
I recently built a new system with a K8N Neo4-F motherboard, 1gig Kingston Ram, Athlon64 3500+, and a 128 MB GeForce 6600GT (also MSI). I'm not sure if I have a graphics issue, a monitor issue, or a motherboard issue, but in either case, every now and then, when I boot my machine I get "scrambled" graphics when the POST screen appears. The system continues to load Windows XP (screen still looks messed up), and just before it's done loading windows, the screen just shuts off.
When the machine boots without these symptoms (the majority of the time) I have no problems. Windows loads just fine, games load and run just fine with no glitches and I can play for hours without a single problem.
I update my BIOS from 1.A0 to 1.B0 last night but have not had a chance to really "monitor" the problem since. LiveUpdate said my graphics card BIOS is up to date.
    Any thoughts?
    A couple other details:
I'm using a 17 inch CRT monitor, and my PSU is a 360 Watt Thermaltake unit.
Ow and PS: Before anybody suggests, I do not have any replacement parts, nor do I know anybody that has a new enough PC that I can try the card in another machine

    You're welcome, ChrisB.
If, as it seems, we have the same problem, I sincerely doubt that your MoBo is concerned. I had the opportunity to test the card on a friend's PC, moreover the techno-guy of the store checked it out again. That is to say 3 different MoBos... and always the same issue. When things like this happen you can be pretty sure that the card is the faulty item. So don't worry  . Actually, when I managed to boot the PC, the card worked perfectly, therefore I first decided to just ignore the problem. But these kind of events have the terrible power of a to annoy you to death, and every boot was to my eyes a painful experience ("Will it happen again?"). That's why I decided to RMA the card.
    Good luck and see you

    Thanks for the prompt reply.
My problem does indeed sound exactly like what you experienced. I think I've just about exhausted every option by now. I've been a bit hestitant to RMA the card because it's a periodic problem so my concern was that I would just get the card back with "no problems found".
I seriously hope it's the graphics card and not the MB, cause I can't stand the thought of having to reinstall the motherboard  :D

  • Sudden problem between iMovie and my Graphics Card?

    Hello all-
Please forgive any omissions, first time posting.
    I'm running Tiger 10.4.9 on a G4 iMac Desktop, 800 MHz w 768 MBram.
My graphics info is apparently: NVIDIA GeForce2 MX:
I only recently had iMovie HD 6.0.3 start displaying an alert message detailing it's requirement of a 'Quartz Extreme Compatible' graphics card. This is news to me, since I've been using this version of iMovie since October 06 without this alert cropping up. So this seems Out Of The Blue.
Funny thing: I've booted the computer from the Tiger startup disk a couple of times since this error began - to check if a disk repair is needed - and with each assisted reboot the graphics card is correctly recognized/supported... once. One unassisted boot. After which it reverts to 'Quartz Extreme Compatible' unsupported once again.
I swung the problem briefly past a genius at a MacGenius bar, who felt the problem was probably not the card itself going bad, (as she thought the card would fail entirely if it was having problems) but either corrupted software in the system, or a HardDrive problem. I have no other evidence that my HD might be failing, so I'm left with her other advice, to do an Archive and Install.
Honestly, nothing's been installed or updated recently. If I had to guess, it
-may- have started after Quicktime failed to play an .avi file off CD this week, but I can't be sure, as I hadn't tried HD for a little while before then. Could QT bombing out have corrupted a system file?
Would you also suggest an Archive and Install? And what sort of system clean-up can I expect after such a procedure? Is there a less radical fix?
    Thanks for any thoughts,
    Andrew

    Hi Folks,
I am running a G-4, 1.25 Gz, 2 gigs ram, running 10.4.9, and a Radeon 9800 pro graphics card. I am having the same problems. I have tried the solutions mentioned here and still have the same problem. I have tried saving the iMovie to to my desk top, run permisions. The Graphics/Dispalys in system profile says
    ATI Radeon 9800 Pro:

So what is the solution...Do I have to retrograde back to iMovie 5?

  • Acrobat 9 scrambles graphics

Just updated to 9. First document I convert and all I can say is %&*(^. I have had nothing but problems with Acrobat. 6 stopped working all together (could not install/uninstall or repair), 7 was a joke that couldn't convert anything over 20 pages without hanging... Well, brand new computer with Office 2007 and Acrobat 9. Things looked fine at first, but then as I page through the pdf, some of the graphics have black bars across them, other graphics have parts rotated and copied so they are totally scrambled... WHAT??? Is there a patch or any help on this? The Word document prints the graphics fine - it's only Acrobat that has the problem. And No, I will not convert the document using the print function. I need the links to be working throughtout the document. That's what I paid for. I can use the free CutePdf (which does not hose up my graphics) if I didn't want working links.
I am on XP Pro, using Office 2007. Converting using Press Quality PDF Writer.

I've not seen this behavior, but I have zero (0) items on my desktop. Not even my Hard disks.

  • Why Does iMovie Distort Imported Graphic Text?

In an effort to get around the fact that iMovie's titles don't display the same way after rendering the same way they do when previewing them, I tried to make my own titles as clips. I took the same colored gradient background still clip that I'm using in iMovie, imported it into several graphics apps (Intaglio, OmniGraffle Pro, Photoshop Elements). Then I added the text that I wanted to use as titles for opening and closing credits, and exported the images for use in iMovie, Then I figured I'd just position them in the timeline in sequence, insert crossfade transitions between them, and that would be that.
But it doesn't work. No matter how high a resolution I use in the imported title clips, iMovie renders them all horribly. The text edges are jagged and it looks like garbage. I've tried JPEG, PNG, JP2, TIF, PDF...nothing seems to work. Even the high resolution images exported from Photoshop look like garbage.
Is there any way to get graphic image text to display properly in iMovie...that is, without using iMovie's own built-in titles, which don't display properly and can't be formatted to look good either.
    Thanks!

    QuickTimeKirk:
Thanks for your reply. Here's some additional info.
Actually, I thought that I had correctly sized the images, but I admit I'm way out of my depth here. I'm an audio guy (using Logic Pro 7.2.3), and fairly adept in that domain. I know very little about video.
I measured the pixel size of the video screen in iMovie, and made an image exactly that size. When that didn't work, I started making images of progressively larger size, including some humongous images in Photoshop. I figured that if I gave iMovie some very high resolution still images, then when iMovie reduces them they shouldn't LOSE resolution. At least, that's the way digital graphics usually work. I guess video is different...
I tried using QuickTime Pro as a workaround. I stuck all the title images in a folder, numbered them sequentially, selected *Open Image Sequence...* under the QuickTime File menu, chose 5 seconds per frame (for 5 JPEG images), and QuickTime opened them as a QuickTime movie. Sure enough, the text displayed with crystal clear, sharp edges in the QuickTime Player. (I used 29.97 fps, the same frame rate I'm using in iMovie.) So, I saved it as a self-contained .mov file, and then I dragged it into iMovie. It still looks like garbage.
I noticed that I have iMovie HD v6.0.3 on my MacBook Pro, so I tried all of the above in that version of the app. All of the still images still look terrible. I'm used *iMovie's Edit:Create Still Frame* command to make the stills, but it's no good. The QuickTime .mov file looks a little better when I import it into iMovie HD v6.0.3 and play it there (the edges are somewhat less jagged, at least), but it's still not anywhere near as crisp and clear as it looks in QuickTime.
If QuickTime can display the text properly and turn it into a movie, why can't iMovie play that movie properly at the same frame rate? Sorry to afflict you with my video newbie ignorance, but I don't get it. This is going to be a problem going forward, because the movie I'm trying to make is full of still images. Basically, it's an audio program (a lecture), with a bunch of visual aids. It seems like iMovie should be able to handle it, but I've got to solve this text displaying problem.
Can you tell me how to "size my image format to match my iMovie Project dimensions"? I ought to be able to do that easily with the graphics apps I have, but how do I determine what those dimensions are?
    Meantime, I'll keep trying stuff.
    Thanks again!

  • IMovie producing scrambled video with ken Burns effect

I was creating a movie with stills from iPhoto. The first 3 photos are using the Ken Burns effect just fine. Anything after that is absolutely unrecognizable. It looks like a scrambled mess of what is on my screen. I can actually see my Dock in the video. This is really strange. It occurs with photos I've edited and with ones I haven't. I have the latest version of Quicktime (7.0.4), iMovie (6.02) and iPhoto (6.0.4) as well as Tiger.
I've never had this problem before. As long as I don't use the Ken Burns effect I'm fine.

  • Imovie display scrambles during use?

When I use iMovie just a few minutes after opening and using, anyhting I interact with on my screen scrambles and distorts. Very reminiscent of an old Nintendo game with dust in it. When I first upgraded the software the other day I was able to work for hours before this happened. I also cleaned the cache file and the .plist   Does anyone have any similar issues or suggestions?

Has anyone found a solution to this? I've got a deadline for Thursday to create a video for my daughter's first birthday and the program is unusable for more than a few minutes. I can't bear to use it any longer and feel like this is a bug that urgently needs a fix. Restarting it every five minutes is becoming ridiculous.

  • Graphics Problem on Macbook Black

I have been testing out my new Macbook black and I have noticed that iphoto and imovie briefly "scramble" when I use expose and in imovie sometimes when I play my project. Has anyone else seen this?

There's a new graphics update which you can download by clicking on the apple logo at the top left then going to Software Update... and if you haven't used software update there should be a number of updates; all of them you should download. Personally I run software update every month.

I just bought a new Mac Mini. The latest 2010 Mac Mini.
    I have a Samsung 23" LCD monitor.
I tried to open iMovie, and got the following message:
iMovie requires a graphics card that is compatible with Quartz Extreme. One or more of your graphics cards does not support Quartz Extreme.
I'm new to the Mac world. Shouldn't Mac software run on Mac hardware?
    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Hello All,
I'm actually on my second Mac mini in a month (I returned the first one) with the same problem. I didn't have Perian installed, and certainly not Windows Media. I also have the problem that when I turn the computer on, it freezes on the Apple logo and the spinning gear stops turning. I have to shut down, then when I turn computer back on, it goes directly to the log in window. It will work fine from there. And most times, iMovie will start no problem. I hope that I don't have to return this one as well, but I might have to.

  • No Update of iMovie 10.0 with Mavericks on iMac from 2007

After upgrading my iMac (24") from 2007 with Maverick it is not possible to update the new iMovie because the Graphic-Board seems to be too slow or too less of RAM. Question: Is it possible to upgrade the Graphic-Board?

I also see some people are still experiencing problems... haven't tried anything myself yet, but will hope for the best!

I can't open iMovie because I get this message:
iMovie requires a graphic card that is compatible with

I only have one card (the original) and it was able to open iMovie before (iMovie 08 or HD)

Thank you for your help in advance.

Update Tiger to 10.4.11 and try trashing the preference files :
    *Quit iMovie.*
Locate a file named com.apple.iMovie.plist and get rid of it. iMovie will create a new one the next time it runs. _Empty the trash and run a permissions repair from the Disk Utility folder._
    The files are located here:
    Users/YourName**/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iMovie.plist
