IMovie '11 Audio problem

I have a problem with iMovie '11. I record the audio with the Zoom H1 and I wanted to sync it with iMovie. But after 5 minutes the audio indicator in iMovie is empty and it doesn't playback the rest of the 10 minute audio file. It's working in QuickTime X, iTunes and VLC.

Have yoiu tried exporting it from Quick Time (you'll need QuickTime 7 Pro) or from iTunes to somehting like an ACC file and then improting that to iMovie.

  • Hv 20 - iMovie 6 AUDIO problem

    hey,
I just edited an HD video in iMovie HD 6. Everything went fine, but when playing it afterwards, the audio was totally queer and not "normal". I tried all different settings, and twice it suddenly worked, but when trying again with the same settings, the same problem as before appeared. There is no logic..
Does anybody know waht to do?
    Thanks!!!

  • IMovie audio problems when burning in Toast 6

    Hi,
i've tried to burn an imovie project in idvd 5 but i get 'the error #-1 was reported' like most people have been and i've tried loads of things suggested to fix it with no joy.
I then sent the imovie project to toast titanium 6 where it burned fine. However, when i watched it i noticed that although toast had picked up all the audio (both dv audio and aiff), it did not pick up all the volume adjustments during the movie. how annoying! for example: i have an aiff clip that fades into a movie clip with the sound gradually going down but Toast picks up the sound staying at the same level. this also happens with volume adjustments in a DV file.
Any suggestions why this happens / how i can fix it?
    Cheers,
    Andy

    Andy,
This question is really in the wrong place - this is the iDVD '08 forum and not the iDVD 5 forum.
From the description of your problem using Toast, it sounds like you didn't actually export a DV video movie out of iMovie.
Export a DV video movie out of iMovie (it will run 13 GB per hour) and play it back with the QuickTime Player to see if the audio settings you made are really there. If this movie plays OK, you can bring IT into iDVD or Toast for turning it into a DVD.
If the DV video movie you created STILL has audio problems in the QuickTime Player, ask you question about THAT issue in the correct iMovie forum.

  • Just recently, when I put clips into iMovie, the audio and video are not in sync. How can I fix this problem?

Whenever I try to make a video on iMovie, the audio is not in sync with the video. This just happened recently. I have no clue what is causing the problem, or how to fix it. What should I do?

  • IMovie HD - Urgent Audio Problem!

I've been working on a video for my Chinese final and iMovie HD 5.0.2 has been working until now. No matter what I do, all of the audio is skipping. The audio I'm using is either embedded audio imported from my HD Video Camera, a music file, or a sound effect clip. The music and sounds are all .mp3.
The sound gradually started getting worse and now nothing I'm doing is making a difference. I can't find an update that will fix my problem. I've already ordered iLife 09 so I can use the newest version of iMovie, but I need this to work right now. This project is due tomorrow and it would have been done if not for the audio problems. Again, I have iMovie HD 5.0.2
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you again for your help.  I didn't realize I was so far behind on the iMovie series.  I downloaded the newest one and it worked great as far as importing the video without bars.  The video was from a Sony widescreen SD video camera and I used MPEG Streamclip to confirm the video was true 16:9 but for some reason iMovie HD just squished it to the right.  Anyway, I noticed on the new iMovie it only has the option for 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio.  So is it not as good as iMovie HD even thought it's newer?  Oh well, guess I'll cross that bridge when I get an HD camcorder.

  • IMove to FCE using XML - audio problem

    Hi everybody,
I am exporting a movie from iMovie 08 to FCE using xml. The conversion seems successful, but resulting FCE sequence uses 2 mono tracks, each panned completely on the left channel (I hear both tracks only on left speaker). I tried also using audio from iMovie thumbs cache but the problem is the same...
The movie is 100 minutes long with many clips, some title and transitions.
I tried converting a shorter movie made from the same original clips, and its audio was ok in FCE...
    What can I do?
    Thanks in advance,
    Paolo

After further trial and error I discovered that if I remove all transitions from the iMovie, the audio is correctly imported as stereo and the video and audio tracks are linked together for each clip. Also in this case the stereo track is panned to -1 but this is correct, since it means that FC outputs each stereo channel to its own speaker.
Using transitions in iMovie creates in FCE three unlinked tracks for video, audio1 and audio2. Each audio track is separately panned to -1 and this is the wrong passage... to hear the sound correctly I should pan all the audio2 clips to 1...
I suspect some transition to be imported erroneously...
    Ciao,
    Paolo

  • IMovie to iDVD audio problems

    Hello,
I am using iMovie '09 (version 8.0.4). I have created a movie with mp3 audio files playing in the background with the clip volume at 0. The video clips are interspersed with some images every now and then as well as transitions. The movie plays quite well when i preview it in iMovie.
I then share the movie with iDVD (version 7.0.4). When I play the movie in iDVD, almost the entire thing plays perfectly except for this one little part. In that little part, audio from some clip starts playing along with the background music.
    More things about my project:
    1. I am using audio ducking only once, I know where it is in the timeline and it is working just fine
    2. Where the problem occurs, I have looked if I might be doing something wrong in precision editor. Turns out I am not using precision editor on the clips where the audio problem occurs at all
    3. All video clips around where the porblem occurs are at a volume of 0
    I am confused. Please help.
    Thanks.

    Hi
    *No audio on DVD disc.*
    Most common origin.
    1 Imported audio from iTunes.
    • In iTunes copy out as an audio-CD .aiff
    • Use this in Your movie project
2 Strange audio formats like .mp3, .avi etc.
    • Change them to .aiff. Use an audio editor like Audacity (free)
3 Main audio is set to off in System Preferences - Does this by it self - Don’t know why
    Cheque Audio-Out resp. Audio-In

Had the same problem; some Googling around gave me a kludgy, but effective fix
Downgrade Perian from recent versions back to version 1.0.
That worked for me, and so far I haven't encountered any deficiencies—except it takes more advanced versions of Perian to enable QuickTime to handle subtitles in .srt format—that I have noticed.
    Before burning the DVD.
    • Do a DiskImage (File menu and down)
    • Double click on the .img file
    • Test it with Apple DVD-player
If it’s OK then make Your DVD.
Burn at x1 speed.... (or x4)
    • In iDVD 08 - or - 09
    • Burn from DiskImage with Apple Disk Util tool
    • OR burn with Roxio Toast™ if You got it

  • Audio problems after exporting out of iMovie

    Aloha!
I have a 48 minute movie created in imovie with lots of audio, clips and transitions. It works perfectly when I preview or play it in iMovie. When I try to share it to iDvd, export to iDvd, or to save it as a Quicktime movie, it looks great for several minutes, then the audio tracks get messed up. The correct audio is there, but overlayed on it is snippets from farther into the project, or whole tracks from later in the project, or places where the audio drops out completely. I spent about 70 hours creating this movie and really want to burn it to DVD so I can play it on the big screen. I did burn one version to dvd, and it looked and sounded great - until the audio problems began... any help would be greatly appreciated.
In Garage Band there is a feature where you can consolidate your bits into one track - should I be doing something in iMovie after I finish it before I export it?

what kind of speed changes do you mean? If you mean using some clips in slo-mo (with the sound dropped out) then yes I used a LOT of them... but they are also working fine for the first several minutes...

  • Audio problem after exporting videos from imovie.

When I export videos I've made in imovie, the audio becomes distorted. Clips that I have silenced, start to play during clips that they don't belong to. Any fixes?

    Hi
How did You Export videos ? To what and into what format ?
    If to iDVD then
    • First I would trash iMovie pref files and iDVDs likevice
    • Then in iMovie - Share to Media Browser and as Large (Not HD or other res.)
    • Then in iDVD from Media button Movies import it.
    • Then test play in iDVD Preview
    • If OK then - Save as a DiskImage
    • Test this with DVD-player tool
    • Still OK
    • Then burn it to DVD either via iDVD or if You don't wat to re-calculate - use Disk Util tool.
(set down burn speed to x4)

  • Audio Problems when burning

I have tried making disc image, burning disc and the audio will pause for second several times in the play back. It does not do it when playing back in iDVD.
The slide show was started in iPhoto and sent to iDVD. I have started over several times and still same issue. Makes a bad impression and is really not useable for presentation.
I have 30 gigs free space, changed settings to Professional encoding and still same issue. I have no open apps, changed all energy settings and screen saver to never.
Any ideas, I am fresh out, never had this problem with previous version.

  • IDVD 4 Audio problems

My audio works just fine in both iMovie, and iDVD. When I play the DVD I burned the audio works just fine for the menus, and slideshows. After playing a movie for about 00:01:30 the audio cuts off for the rest of the movie. Any ideas?

There can be some goofy audio problems. One recommendation is to Extract the Audio from your problem clip while in iMovie and see if this makes a difference in the DVD. [this creates a separate sound file, which sometimes fixes audio problems]
The point where the audio stops -- is it the beginning of a clip? near a transition? or?

    Hi Matt
There are so many things that can go wrong.
How did You go from (iMovie?) to iDVD.

  • Audio problems and can't open project to another computer.

I'd like some help with moving a project from my G4 powerbook (10.4.3 1Gb RAM) to my G5 iMac (10.4.4 1.5Gb RAM) both with ilfe 06 installed. I copied the project file across and it won't start up on my iMac. The reason I'm trying to move the project over is that the audio quality on the entire (powerbook) project is absolutely u.s. (created on my brand new powerbook with factory settings intact). I have already used iMovie on my iMac with the same camera and it worked just fine and was kinda hoping that 'porting it over might cure the problem, although I'm not at all sure it will. I think the fault is probably embedded in the original. (incidentally, I CAN open the moved project when I connect my powerbook to my iMac)
    Audio problem:
I noticed, while importing the clips, that my powerbook started sporadically cutting out the audio (unusual I thought!) but I was under a bit of pressure to complete and thought it was just a temporary glitch.
I'd appreciate some help with that also, if anyone has a suggestion.
Anyway, as I said, the project simply won't open on my iMac (I've checked permissions they seem OK) iMovie starts up when I click the project, but stalls until I click iMovie's icon in the dock, where upon the previous project I worked on loads up fine.
Most frustration overall, I thought if I had 2 machines I would have ultimate flexibility - It's not woking out like that at all.
I'm apprehensive about upgrading my powerbook to 10.4.4 at the moment - frightened I'll loose the whole thing!!
I've used iMovie 2, 3 and 5, never had any issues like this before.
    iMac G5 + Powerbook G4 (10.4.3)   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Same here. I don't have a solution, but I understand exactly your problem. This is what I did.
Imported movies into iPhoto from stills camera.
Opened iMovie, new project bla bla, dragged from event library (iphoto videos).
    Made/edited movie etc.
All gone well. Exported to iTunes/iDVD etc no problem.
Now, I don't need to keep all the original video clips in iPhoto so can I delete them?
Yeah sure, I'll just drag the iMovie project to my ext HD as per the iMovie help files.(in iMovie)
Opened project that is now on ext HD.
    File/Consolidate/Copy clips & Move events.
But.... it doesn't. The 'Copy clips' box even says '2.2gb' which is the right amount for the movie clips. But they never go to the iMovie project file on my ext HD.???

  • Solve my corrupted audio problem for $$ and eternal gratitude

My video project has corrupted audio suddenly. I've read about other audio problems when exporting, but all I did was save the project while editing, no export. I have the prefs set to extract audio at pasteover, which I've done a lot of for this 2-camera wedding shoot. I also have the second audio track occasionally used for background music. All three tracks (video, audio 1, audio 2) on the timeline have corrupted audio for the entire length of the project. It sounds like a helicopter whirr was added, it's very choppy. Also, both cpus are maxxed out and the process monitor shows iMovie utilizing 180%+ consistently. When iMovie isn't running, it's in the single digits. As soon as I load iMovie the cpus max out. This hasn't happened the whole project, just recently. So what changed? I don't know. I've been doing the same thing the whole time, the pasteovers, the add titles, the add background track, saving the project every couple of minutes. Each time I've saved, it looks like it's listing off different files or clips, not just the changed clips. I've tried deleting the QT movie it created in the cache and let it recreate to see if that would help, but it didn't. Would deleting the files in the waveform cache help? I've got about 30 hours into this project already and would love to resurrect this audio if possible. Either that or it's Jim Beam and call it a day. I thought this was non-destructive editing, but apparently that's just the originals? That doesn't help much when the whole project audio goes in the toilet and I'm looking at redoing this whole project. Anyone who can fix this is getting a big ol' sloppy kiss on the mouth and an iTunes gift certificate.

I've never personally seen the audio problems you describe, but there's some things I'd try before giving up. As you've probably read, it's not unusual to have playback problems in projects containing complex audio. The odds for it seem to increased in QuickTime 7.
    1. Try opening the "TimeLine Movie.mov" that's inside the Cache folder of the project in QuickTime Player. If the audio plays okay there, the audio data is intact and you're seeing a playback anomaly in iMovie. (QuickTime Player may choke too, but don't conclude anything from that.)
To access the movie, Control-click on the project icon and choose "Show Package Contents".
    2. Try exporting ONLY the project audio to an AIFF file, then import THAT back into the project and replace the audio you have. That will "flatten" the audio and make it much easier to play. (To be safe, on a copy of the project.)
Or if you have QuickTime Pro, you might try extracting all the audio from the Timeline movie.
To export to an AIFF file, choose File > Export, click on QuickTime, set the popUp menu to "Expert Settings", press Share, then from the top popUp menu, choose "Sound to AIFF". Choose the level of quality you want from the bottom popUp menu, then Save.
What may be going on here is that extracting audio has created MANY audio files in the project, some possibly very large. (Each time we extract audio from a clip that is part of a Media file shared with other clips, iMovie extracts ALL the audio from that Media file, not just the audio of the selected clip.) To see what audio files the project contains, look in the Media folder of the project.
If you get this solved, please say how.
Oh, and if you haven't updated to iMovie 7.1, you might try that. There were improvements in handling multiple audio tracks, I read somewhere.
BTW, it's usually not a good idea to change things inside the project package. iMovie can get pretty confused. The Timeline movie is replaced each time we save, so that's not a big deal.

  • IMovie moving audio clips when transitions are added

iMovie moving audio clips when transitions are addedI have some video clips that need simple fades to black added at the end. However, whenever I add the fade out transition, iMovie does something insane. Instead of the last two seconds of video fading to black and the last two seconds of audio fading out, it seems that a random two seconds of audio from elsewhere in the clip is tacked onto the end and faded. This problem is nuts and I am having no luck finding a solution. Does anyone have one? This has happened with other transitions, but I’d settle for just getting a fade to black to work properly. Is this only a problem with Intel machines?

The problem that you describe has come up frequently on this forum. There are lots of things people have tried, but no solution has been found, other than the workaround of extracting the audio, as Klaus 1 mentions, and manually adjusting the fade out. Some feel that it is an intel machine problem, but that is not clear.
For more information on this issue, try using the search function of this forum, typing in "audio echo with transitions", or some other appropriate search words. You might find of interest the information contained in the following post:
