IMovie 11 - can't edit an existing project

Mac mini, OS X 10.7.5, editing in iMovie 11
Two open projects, one completed, one in process. When I opened iMovie today the following occurred -
Project in process "edit project" button not highlighted, neither project will play in viewer, clips from completed project will play in viewer with sound, clips from project in process have no sound.
Tried repair disk permissions in disk utility but no change, have 97 GB avail on 500GB drive, can't figure out what happened - no recent power surges/outages, everything working normally yesterday.

Answered my own question - I had just imported 2 videos to add to the project in process before I shut down yesterday. After trying a bunch of other fixes, I deleted both those videos and everything is working again. Probably maxed out memory or space or something with the extra data so I will be careful to only add small clips to this project from now on.

  • Can you edit an archived project?!?

I have a wedding project archived through iDVD08. I want to replace one song in the Reception of the movie. I do not have my original iMovie files anymore due to file size and hard drive limitations.
Does anyone know if I can re-edit my archived project?
    Thanks to all!
    Greg

OK... the Archive is a package. Control-click on it and select 'Show Package Contents'. Then the path is Contents>Resources>Assets>av Your movie clips will be in the av directory. COPY the movies you want and paste them in a new location. DO NOT simply drag them out of the package!!!!!!!

  • How can I build an existed project into eclipse IDE?

    Hello, all,
I did not use eclipse IDE before. Someone gave me an completed directory which
was a project (including all classes and source code) built by eclipse IDE. I
want to rebuild it into eclipse on my computer. But eclipse only has "new" item
to generate new project, class, etc. How can I rebuild the exist project in
    eclipse IDE?
I appreciate your help or any suggestion!
    Thanks
    John

    Easiest way:
Copy the folder into the Eclipse Workspace folder
Create the "new" project with the same name as that folder.
Eclipse should detect an existing project with the same name, inform you of this, and proceed from there.

  • Can you edit an existing theme in imovie?

I like the existing themes in imovie, but I would like to edit them to include my logo (ie. like the CNN iReport rather than a map of the world), how would I do that?  If I cannot edit an existing them, how do I make my own?  Thank you in advance for your assistance.

There is an active iMovie forum here, and on it I would expect you would get very good responses to your question.

  • Can you edit an existing nested style in CS5.5?

In a previous InDesign CS5.5 document, I created a paragraph style containing a nested style. The nested style applied a bold font to the first sentence only, with the rest of the paragraph appearing in a roman version of the same font.
I'm creating a new document now and would like to use the same paragraph style/nested style combination, only with different fonts.
Is there some way to edit an existing nested style, or do I have to create a new one for the new fonts?
    Thanks for your help.

You can load the paragraph style in the new document and then change the font....
In the new document , Go to Paragraph style panel flyout menu and then choose "load paragraph style"and then choose the file in which you have this nested paragraph style present.

  • Can't Open An Existing Project in iDVD

I've prepared an iDvd project saved it and when ever I run iDvd and select "open an existing project" it just freezes and only gives me the option to "Force Quit". It allows me to create a new project but I can't open my existing one. Can anyone help. I hope I don't have to start it all over again.

Have you tried deleting iDVD's preference file?
Close iDVD. Go to your Home folder(YourUserName)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.idvd.plist
Drag this plist file to the trash. iDVD will create a new fresh one when you reopen it.
Open iDVD, and see if this problem is resolved.
If not, try signing on as a new account. Go to system preferences, account.
If that resolves the problem, then it is not the software. Post back for more assistance with this.
If neither of these helps, you may have to reinstall iDVD. Again, post back if you get to this point and want assistance with reinstalling. You will need to find your original iLife installation disks, or the Mac installation disks if iLife was preinstalled on your computer when you purchased it.

  • Correct Steps to Edit an Existing Project Plan Template?

    Hi,
We have to add tasks to a current existing Project plan template which is also a part of EPT. What are the correct steps for carrying out this exercise. Please help.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
It depends what you want to achieve. Do you want to overwrite the existing plan template or version it. Lets cover both.
    Overwriting
Open the Enterprise Template in Project Professional - assume it is called "Dev Template", make the required changes. Click File > Save As, type the exactly the same name of the current template - "Dev Template", change the type to "Template" and
click save. You will be prompted about overwriting the template, Click OK. Now all future projects created from the associated EPT will have the new update plan template.
    Versioning
Assuming the current template is versioned - "Dev Template v1", Open the Enterprise Template in Project Professional. Make the required changes. Click File > Save As, type the exactly the same name of the current template but update to v2 -
"Dev Template v2", change the type to "Template" and click save. Now go to PWA Setting / Server Settings > Enterprise Project Types, click the correct EPT, scroll down to the project plan template section and update the template from "Dev Template
v1" to "Dev Template v2". Click Save. Now all future projects created from the associated EPT will have the new update plan template.
    Hope that helps

  • Edit an existing project

Hi, I have burnt a project which is fine just a couple of errors to iron out, but I want to edit that project with more photos and correct spelling mistakes in the titles, when I open the project there are no edit tool bars, no settings button and at the top under Edit all greyed out, anyone out there have any ideas?
Hopefully the picture will be below!
    Dave
    /Users/davidmatthews/Desktop/Picture 1.png

Nope. No picture there that I can see. Maybe if you host the above image to photobucket.com then we'll be able to see it if you provide the url as well.
But to answer your question of editing a .idvdproject file ..... yes, you can do this if the file still exists on your mac but you will need to re encode and then burn a new DVD with the desired modifications.
On the other hand, if you no longer have this project on your mac it becomes much more complicated to make any adjustments without first converting the DVD to QT and then bringing that file back into either iMovie or iDvd. There is no easy way to get the video off the DVD and back into the computer where it can be re-edited at its original quality. However, you can convert a non copy protected DVD to QT but you may see a slight quality loss when using 3rd party apps like:
    http://dvdxdv.en.softonic.com/mac
Other apps that may be able to address this are Mpeg streamclip as well as Visual Hub. Use Google to find their respective web sites or search this forum.
Hope this helps and good luck.

  • IMovie can't edit sound for a portion of an event

Is there anyway of editing just a portion of the sound track from an event? I coughed during a video, and rather than have to redo all 12 minutes, I'd like to just edit the sound out for that portion, then put in a picture (my next effort) so you can't see me coughing either. But when in sound edit mode, iMovie auto-selects the entire event, so any edit I make, like reducing the volume, is done to the entire event. When I select a portion of the video, then try and invoke sound editing, it just won't happen. This just plain doesn't make any sense to me, but I don't know anything about sound/movie editing, so maybe this is just a limitation of iMovie.
    Any suggestions?

We-ell, it probably seems to AppleMan, and possibly others, that you DO really need "..10 hours of videos or 50 pages of tutorials.." ..and a good place to start is Apple's own iMovie Tutorials; there's a whole pile of them here: http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#imovie .
You say "..I finally figured it out. You can't take the whole event into the project.." ..but you CAN. Just click anywhere on an Event (..that's any single clip in your 'Events' window..) then - as is standard throughout Apple programs - hold down the Apple ('Command') key and press the letter 'A' ..and that "Selects All" of that clip.
You can then drag all that clip into your 'Project' window. (..Dragging, I find, is far simpler than, as you say, "..select the event, then click on the Edit button to move it to the project"..)
But you asked about audio editing. There are several ways to do what you want:
You said "..I'd like to just edit the sound out for that portion, then put in a picture (my next effort) so you can't see me coughing either.." ..If you've already got, in your Events clips, a picture - or video clip - which you want to use to "cover up" your coughing, select that Event and drag it on top of the section of clip which you want to obscure in your Project window. When you release the mouse button to drop that clip on top of the clip which you want to obscure, here's what iMovie's Help file says will happen:
(..You have looked at iMovie's Help pages, haven't you? ..Search under, for example, 'Replace'..)
Anyway, when you drag a clip from Events onto a clip in your Project and release the mouse button, this little menu pops up:
..You can then choose what you want to do with that "cutaway" clip, such as "Replace at Playhead" or "Cutaway". Using it as a "cutaway" (..temporarily cutting away to that different shot, and then coming back to the original..) will then position it above the original clip. You can then click on the little "cogwheel" icon at the start of that cutaway clip, and then, in its drop-down menu, click on 'Audio adjustments', and choose 'Ducking: Reduce volume of other tracks..' and that will reduce - to zero, if you like - the sound from the underlying original track for the duration of that cutaway, so that your coughing disappears.
A second - and maybe simpler? - way to remove the coughing is to simply Split the video clip which has the coughing: Split it so that the sequence with the coughing ..let's say it's 3 seconds long.. becomes a separate 3-second clip. Then just click on the "cogwheel" icon at the start of that 3-second clip, and choose - as before - 'Audio adjustments', and then just drag the clip's audio level down to zero. So that you're not left with no sound at all, copy a short section of audio from elsewhere (..how? it's in the Apple Tutorials..) and paste it underneath that 3-second clip, or add music, or add an audio clip of general nondescript "ambience".
AppleMan did his best to help you. You might have offered him some thanks instead of just stamping your virtual foot and saying "..I don't need to be referred to 10 hours of videos or 50 pages of tutorials.."
He offered you help, and you spat at him. If you try a little courtesy next time; it'll get you much further.
(P.S: I see that AppleMan already succinctly explained to you exactly how to do this in your other question called "Can the sound track be deleted from a small portion of video?" ..!)

  • Imovie won't edit or play project

    Hi,
I'm pretty new to Macs, but I am really struggling with this, and can't find any solution that seems to work.
Basically, I've been editing a project in Imovie for a few weeks. Yesterday, I was editing and closed without issue, in the exact same way I had done for the last few weeks.
Today, I can open Imovie, but my project won't open, nor will it play, either in the preview window or full view. In fact, it won't even allow me to open the project and see all thumbs.
I've googled it, and the only suggestions I can find suggest I delete the preferences file or delete and reinstall imovie, both of which I have done, neither of which work.
Does anyone have a working solution, as I am starting to get worried I will lost all I had done up until now.
    Thanks,
    James

    Hi James,
The problem you are seeing appears similar to what others here are reporting (including me). However, in our case the project appears in Finder but is not listed in iMovie's Project Library.
From your description, it sound like you can see the project in the Project Library, but it simply won't open. Is this correct? If so, it's slightly different to what we are seeing (or not seeing)!
See my latest post on this issue here (where I've provided links to 7 other topics on this):
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4864757?tstart=0
Sorry I can't provide any advice as to a remedy for this very frustrating issue. Please provide feedback to Apple, as I've described in the above link.

  • Can't edit my idvd project

I've been working on an idvd project. I can preview the slideshow but can't seem to find where to edit it or add more pics. I had been doing fine and now all of a sudden it seems to be lost. Help!!!!

Is the slideshow one from still photos?  If so then in the slideshow mode window click on the Media pane button on the right.  There you will have the option to drag in photos from your iPhoto Library.

  • Can I edit a HD project in SD, then export HD from the original files?

I have a project that has been shot in HDV that, for a couple of reasons, I have to edit on my laptop instead of my rather powerful desktop. As well as it being HDV (1080 50i), it's also going to need lots of effects adding to it. Now, my laptop is pretty good for a laptop, but I know it's not going to be able to handle this - it plays back HDV choppily at the best of times, so this would give it a heart attack.
So I was wondering - would it be possible to take the captured HDV files, export them as SD files (like standard DV Microsoft AVI), which my laptop can handle easily, edit using those files but then, at the end, export the video in 1080 50i from the original captured HDV files (using my desktop if necessary)?
I think I've seen or heard this discussed before, because that's where I got the idea from. So is it possible, and if so, how?

Thanks for the quick response. I've just read through that other thread, thanks for the link. Also thanks for making me realise that what I'm looking for is called proxy editing - if I'd known that, I would have found much more useful information when I first googled for it! I've actually just tried something similar, playing around with the first 30 seconds of my footage. I've exported it as two files - HD.mpeg and SD.avi, created a new project, imported the AVI, did a simple edit, added some lighting effects, saved it, then closed. I then moved the AVI file and reopened the project - of course it told me the file was missing and asked me where it was. I pointed it to HD.mpeg instead of SD.avi and it accepted it - the project is now in HD with the edit and effects intact. That's basically exactly what I wanted, there's just one problem I can foresee - I'll have to edit the 720x576 footage in 1440x1080 sequences, leaving a huge margin around the edges in the sequence monitor. I can live with that by zooming in on it, until I have to crop a shot, then it's going to be tricky to get it scaled and positioned correctly. I'm going to make some kind of guide to overlay it, see how that works out - it should do me for this one project.

  • How can I copy an existing project?

I am using RoboHelp 9 on a virtual server.
I copied the entire folder of original project.
Named New Folder the name of 2nd project.
Can;t find copied project when I view open projects in robohelp.
I am very new to this but I desparately need to copy my original project asap as of next week, there will be two versions of the product and I will need to keep the two projects separate.
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi there
    You're on the right track.
Copy the folder to a new location.
From RoboHelp, click File > Open and navigate to the new location.
Open the ProjectName.xpj file you should find there.
After you open the project, click File > Rename Project and give it a new name.
    Cheers... Rick

  • How can I edit an existing pdf file? I just need to replace some text

my boss wants me to amend a pdf document and I've been doing it wrong. The programs I have are illustrator, in design and photoshop hope you can help.
    thank you in advance.

I have amended a pdf before sometime ago but totally forgotten what I did.
But I do know it can be done
The fact that you edited one PDF doesn't mean you can edit another. There are many possible PDF "recipes" which may or may not result in direct edit-ability.
In your original post, you state you've "been doing it wrong."
In post #2, you state "it didn't work."
In post #4 you state "it doesn't allow me..."
It would be a lot easier to advise you if we had more detail in terms of how you're going about your attempts to edit, and what actually happens when you try. For example:
"I use the Type Tool and click/drag to select text, but it makes a new text box instead."
"I can't select individual objects. It looks like everything is grouped in one big frame"
"When I click on text, it gets elected like objects, with anchor points all around."
