IMovie 11 Can't Upload to YouTube - Movie Length

YouTube is now allowing 15 minutes uploads standard to all users.  My limits are about 40 minutes and 3GB AFAIK.  However, when trying to upload iMovie Projects over 10 minutes to YouTube within iMovie (Share>YouTube) I get an error message that the movie is too long.  That requireds me to use the Share>Export Movie and then upload via the YouTube web interface.  It's not nearly as convenient.  Is there any fix for this problem?  I saw another thread about this, but it was archived without an answer.
Any idea when Apple is going to update iMovie?  It's long over due IMHO.
Thanks!

The best answer is to do what you are doing - use the web browser.
This has some benefits. You can upload multiple movies in batch, and you can continue working in iMovie as you upload.
If you want to tell Apple that you want this feature, open iMovie and click iMovie/Provide Feedback.

Now trying to work with my Mac. I have a USB cable, both ends fit, but iMovie '11 does not recognize it. Is there a driver fix for this?

What kind of Mac to you have?  This camera is a tape based DV one that connects best with firewire and I cannot tell if your Mac has firewire.  If your mac *does* have firewire, get a camcorder firewire cable and try again.
ETA:  Oops, I am pretty sure that all the "desktop iMacs" have firewire, so you should be good to go.  You will probably need a cord that goes from FW800 to your camcorder.

  • IMovie 11 is not uploading to Youtube after finalization.

I am trying to upload a 2:49 minute long movie to YouTube, but am currently unsuccesful.
The project is finished being finalized (720p), but after it goes through the long process of "uploading to Youtube", there isn't a notification with a link for the video and it isn't on my channel. It seems the project is cancelled by YouTube at the last second, and it's getting quite frustrating.
What exactly is the problem? Is there some sort of workaround I can use to upload the video?

I think this may be the quickest workaround:
Go to Share Menu > Export Movie... (set it to 720p) and save it to the Desktop
Open the YouTube website in your favorite web browser, login to your account.
Go to the YouTube upload page, and have it upload the video fromo your Desktop
The beauty of this versus the iMovie upload is the status messages are a little more reassuring as it progresses. I always feel like I know how much longer I need to wait. And then at the end it gives you the URL to see the video after it post-processes the whole thing. So publishing direct, will get around this problem.
As for the problem, itself. I've ready many people's posts to the iMovie Discussion group with a similar YouTube upload from iMovie problem. No one to my recollection has written back with a description of a fix for this. Some people couldn't login to YouTube at all through iMovie it wouldn't accept their credentials. That was fixed by using the correct username for the YouTube account after Google took them over (some people had a username, other used an email address for their username). It sounds more like the upload is failing than the username and password not being accepted. So I would just do the workaround unless you wanted to test iMovie again in the future to see if it suddenly starts working again.

  • I can't upload to YouTube

I have tried to upload to youtube through the Share Tab in FCP X.  The progess bar makes it to 95% every time and just stops.  I have several different videos and the upload stops at the same spot every time.

Unless you're a full partner on YouTube, YT will limit the size of your video when you upload it - and - the upload will fail if you go over the size allotted for your account. It's a little difficult to keep track of however, but if YouTube allows you 10 minutes of video OR 1.5GB file size (say, for example), I can tell you right now: FCPX is encoding that H.264 with a bandwidth of over 12.5Mbps (I forget the exact amount - very high quality!) for HD sized video and you'll be lucky to upload 3 minutes worth (estimate about the same quality going out as you get from your camera - most consumer camcorders use roughly 18.5 - 22.5 Mbps AVC/H.264 for 1080i; 12-15Mbps for 720p, etc.)
I've run into this same problem before. For most of my videos, however, I almost never need more than about 4Mbps for 1080. The bandwidth savings over FCPX's "straight to YouTube" are huge. (videos with higher amounts of movement/action will require more bandwidth which is why Compressor is a big deal, because you can use markers to change up the bandwidth inside a single video file.) However, 99.9% of the time, I'll export out of FCPX (prores) and use (ready?) Quicktime 7 Pro to re-encode to h.264 before uploading to YT. (besides, if doing screencasts? YT needs a little extra "size" tweak to get the best results that you cannot set from within FCPX, otherwise, even 1080 will look a little fuzzy around the text.)
[PS - If you owned a previous version of FCP, then the Quicktime 7 Pro license was automatically activated when you installed FCS. If you have not already, you should be able to install QT7 from your system install disk (I believe it was in the Extras folder on the DVD.)]

  • Profile File Invalid" and can't upload to Youtube form Elements v.4- ????

Problem with Adobe Premiere elements v.4 running on vista. When I try to upload directly to youtube I get a message" ! Profile File Invalid" and can't upload. I have to save the file to PC then upload. Can you help?

As Steve points out, YouTube made major changes to their accounts and the handling of those, when they partnered with Google, about the time that PrE 7 was in full-swing. It is likely that they have made more changes, so even PrE 8's direct upload might now be obsolete.
Now, PrPro has some great (for the moment) YouTube Presets for Export, it does not have that direct link for uploading, that PrE does. Still, either program should be able to do the Export/Share to a YouTube-compliant file, that can be manually uploaded.
Just be aware that YouTube changes their specs. very often, and that they will also re-encode anything that you upload. I always recommend that a user check the published specs. for files on a monthly basis, just to see if YouTube has made a major change, that might affect the specs. of the files that they want - at that moment in time.
YouTube is a "moving target," in many ways. They are so dynamic, because they are still defining that niche on the Internet.
    Good luck,

  • How can I upload my dvd movies to my ipad for an upcoming vacation

How do I upload my dvd movies to my IPad 2?

This would have to be one of the bug bears of iTunes: you can put a music CD in your Mac's optical drive and iTunes asks if you want to import it, but will not do the same for a movie you already own and want to watch on your Mac using iTunes!
I haven't bought a DVD for years, and happily buy movies, or rather, when at home rent them from the iTunes Store.
The only way to get movies onto your iPad is to buy movies from iTunes and sync the iPad (make sure you have ticked the sync movies option in the iTunes device settings AND tick only the movies you want in the movies list) or buy movies via the iTunes app on your iPad, or do stuff that is illegal.

  • Can't export (720p youtube sharing; length 1:05:00)

    Hi!
I'm exporting with default setting of 720p videos for YouTube sharing.
I sent the task to compressor
The "time remaining" number keeps going up and the percentage complete remains the same
my video is over 1 hour, could that be the cause?
    anybody? thank in advance

Possibly. Why don't you try breaking this down into a couple of discrete  steps and though it might seem counterproductive, the process should go more quickly and be more reliable "all in".
    Share>Export>Media> CurrentSettings.
Bring exported QT movie file into Compressor.
Choose the Video Share 720p preset and submit.
Upload to YouTube from their site.
    Good luck.

  • I can't upload to youtube, authorization problem on Premiere Elements 9 and 12.

What the hell do I do? Can someone explain this in an understandable way. As simply and specific as possible without sounding all mumbo jumbo technical?

Remember this is a user to user forum and not Adobe. If you have problems here, then contact Adobe direct. Don't bite the non Adobe salaried helpers.
The answers are in the details. And, I am going to ask for details as straight forward as possible. And, please excuse questions which seek to gather the information that you alone have.
    1. Is this a "it worked before or not now problem" or "it never worked before". If it worked before, how long ago?
    2. Have you checked the integrity of your Internet connection and settings?
    3. To check the integrity of your YouTube account, please export your Timeline as a .mov or .mp4 file and save it to hard drive. From the hard drive upload it to YouTube at the YouTube web site. Does that upload succeed?
    4. If you sign into YouTube at the YouTube web site, minimize that window, open Premiere Elements and try the Online/YouTube route, does that impact the issue?
    5. Are you having any other problems with the performance of these two versions except for the Online/YouTube?
If need be, I will offer to do uploads from Online/YouTube on my Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 and 12 to verify that Adobe and/or YouTube is not asleep at the switch.
Can you help me help you?
    Thanks.

Worked fine y'day- today I can see everything but when trying to access (play a downloaded show or song from iTunes library) I get an error message and to try later.

Ja, sämtliches 'schützenswerte' Material in iMovie (Grafiken, Musik) sind 'frei' - solange Du sie in einem Projekt verwendest; also zB nicht die TrailerMusiken auf CD brennen und verkaufen ...

  • How to edit JVC/Panasonic/Canon .mod video in Windows Movie Maker then upload to YouTube for sharing

    Quick View:
Part 1: How to import .mod video to Windows Movie Maker
Part 2: How to edit the video with Windows Movie Maker

    Know More:
    1. Which Camcorders record video in .MOD type?
    2. What file types are supported by Windows Movie Maker?
    3. What file types are supported by YouTube?
Part 1: How to import .mod video to Windows Movie Maker
    Step 1: Load files
First copy the MOD file from your video camera to your hard drive, then download, install and run MOD Converter, click the "Add Files" button to browse your computer hard disc and load the MOD/TOD video files you want to convert to the program.
    Step 2: Output Setting
In the bottom of the main interface, select an output format supported by Windows Movie Maker for each video file and specify a directory on your computer to save the output files.
    Step 3: Start convert
Click "Start" button on right bottom of the main interface, you are allowed to start conversion.
Step 4: Import converted video to Windows Movie Maker
Click on "File". Then click on "Import". A window will appear. In the window, navigate to the video clip you converted just now. Then double click on the file. You'll see the icon for the file in your Windows Movie Maker "Collections".
Part 2: How to edit the video with Windows Movie Maker
Step 1: Add transitions and special effects
In the Movie Tasks pane, under Edit Movie, click View video transitions.
Preview transitions by double-clicking them and watching the Preview Monitor. Once you've found a transition you like, drag it from the Video Transitions pane, under Edit Movie pane to the box between two of your clips. This inserts the transition between the two clips.
Step 2: Add titles and credits
If you want to add a title before, after, or on top of a clip, click the clip on the storyboard or timeline.
In the Movie Tasks pane, under Edit Movie, click Make titles or credits.
    Step 3: Add Music
In the Movie Tasks pane in Movie Maker, under Capture Video, click Import audio or music.
In the Import File dialog box, click the name of the song you want to use in the background. Then click Import. This adds your song to your collection but does not add it to your video. Drag the song from the collection to the video clip where you want the music to start playing.
    Step 4: Add narration
If you have a desktop computer, connect a microphone. Microphones are available from most electronics stores. If you have a portable computer, you can use the built-in microphone. However, you will get a better-quality recording if you connect an external microphone. In Movie Maker, click the Tools menu, and then click Narrate Timeline. On the timeline, click the clip you want to narrate. You can narrate clips one at a time, or you can narrate the entire movie all at once. If you narrate individual clips, you can rearrange them later and keep your narration synchronized. If the narration is too loud or too soft in comparison to the movie, right-click the narration on your timeline, and then click Volume.
Step 5: To save your movie to your computer
In the Movie Tasks pane, under Finish Movie, click Save to my computer.
The Save Movie Wizard appears. On the Save Movie File page, type a name for your movie. You can also choose a folder to save it in by clicking the Browse button, but My Videos (the default) is usually the best place to save your movie. Then click Next. On the Movie Setting page, click Next to accept the default setting of Best quality for playback on my computer.
Movie Maker saves your movie, which might take several minutes. On the Completing the Save Movie Wizard page, click Finish. If Play movie when I click Finish was selected (it is selected by default), the movie will automatically play in Windows Media Player. Now you can watch your videos anytime by opening your My Videos folder and double-clicking your movie.
Part 3: How to upload my video to YouTube
A video file should meet the following requirements so that it can be uploaded to YouTube site.
    1. In an acceptable format: WMV, MPEG4, MOV, AVI and MPEG.
    2. Video length is shorter 10 minutes.
    3. File size is smaller than 1GB.
Step 1: Sign up a YouTube account or Gmail account, then click the Upload button on any YouTube web page. See the figure below:
Step 2: Type in the information of your video file, including Title, Description, Category and tags. To increase the chances that your video can be easily found, you should put as much information as possible.
Step 3: Set this video to be public or private.
Step 4: Click the "Upload a video" button. When you see the next window, click the "Browse" button to select the video file you want to upload. Then click the "Upload Video" button to upload it. After the upload is finished, you will see the completion page. See the figure below:
Step 5: Click "My Videos" and you will see the video.
    Know More:
