IMovie 11 does not see iPhoto videos

Using iLife 09, iMovie showed my iPhoto videos in the lower pane event browser.
Upgraded to iLife 11.
iPhoto spent some time converting my library - but it completed; and seems fine.
iMovie, however, no longer shows the iPhoto videos. The text says no video clips match the current selection - but this never changes no matter what is selected.
My previous iMovie projects all still exist; and seem fine. The videos that were added from the event browser in '09 are also still fine within those projects.
I'd appreciate any suggestions for fixing this.

As I always have my preference set to copy items to the iPhoto Library, hopefully I won't see any problems. Once I'm running with iLife '11 (hopefully some time on Monday) I will let you know how things go.
Neville, just to let you know (as promised), everything went very smoothly with my iLife '11 upgrade. All my iPhoto videos showed up in iMovie '11 within the item "iPhoto Videos" in the Events Library. But, as I mentioned earlier, my preferences are set to copy photos to the iPhoto Library.
After installing iLife '11, my first step was to open iPhoto and allow the database to update. Once I was satisfied that iPhoto was running OK, I then opened iMovie and waited for it to do all the upgrading. That went smoothly also, other than a warning about a Centred Title missing from one of my iPhoto Videos and that the video wouldn't play without it. I haven't bothered to track that down yet - the video wasn't identified in the warning message.
I appreciate this doesn't really help you solve your issue, but it does help to confirm that things seem to work OK when the iPhoto preference is set to the option I've selected (copy photos). Note that my iPhoto Library is located on the internal drive. I have a small number of photos that I keep in separate folders outside of the iPhoto Library - mainly stuff I've done for other people that I don't want cluttering up iPhoto (although I realise that these can be hidden in iPhoto).

Did you ever get an answer to this? I just experienced the distortion when I imported a video from my iPhone 4 to iPhoto.

  • IMovie 11 does not see all iPhoto videos

As many guys are having different problems, but none as mine, I'm creating this new topic.
I just bought a MacBook Pro, and it came with iLife 11. I copied my pictures/movies folder to the Pictures system folder and imported all to iPhoto (but first, I unchecked the "copy to iPhoto library" option).
Doing so, iMovie didn't show the movies. After searching a little, I deleted all the Events, checked the "copy to library" back and imported the files again.
Now, I can see the videos there, but not all. Most interesting is that almost all videos are MP4 H.264, and some appears, others don't (they came from the same camera). Some other MPG MPEG-1/2 aren't there too.
I didn't migrated from previous versions of iLife. I installed QuickTime 7. The "copy to iPhoto library" is checked. I don't know what to do!
    Thanks.

  • IMovie does not see iPhoto Libraries

I just purchased a new MacBook Pro and imported my photos and videos into iPhoto.  Now iMovie does not see them.  If I import them to iPhoto on my iPad I see them in iMovie on the iPad.  I expect the same from the MacBook Pro.  What is up?  Am I doing something Wrong?

I have a large video on my ipad that I need to transfer to my PC (a window 7).  I could also use a windows 8 if that would help.  But all of the applications I have tried do not see this large video (52 mins) even though they transfer smaller videos fine.  The ipad will not let me trim the video, saying it is too large.  This is true even though I only want to trim the original, and not create a new video.  (Actually it refuses before it gets to the choice of creating something new or just eliminating something from the original).  I have been to an Apple store, but the people there only could recommend that I try some alternate applications to do the transfer (Kodak EasyShare).  I don't have much faith this will work.  I think I have this application on an old PC, and it is not something I want on my new computers.
Is it possibled the size of this video just violates the transfer formats for files over USB?  If so, I will just delete the video and move on.  But the video is really something I wanted to save.  I would be happy to eliminate most of the video, but the ipad will not let me trim it.
I also tried to import the video with Windows Moviemaker (free with W7).  It also does not see this file, but works fine on the other videos on the ipad.

  • Imovie 10 does not see my Itunes Labrary

I have updated to Imovie 10, but in the library left part, I have iphoto, but not the Itunes Library.
So impossible to add music to my films.
I have Imovie 9 as well, and it is OK with the Itunes Library. It does see it.
    Any idea ?
My Itunes Library is on an external drive, not the Iphoto one. Maybe that's the problem ? But it should work, I'm not the only one to have this config.
    Thanks !

    Ok Gilles,
    I will try to explain:
    a. click your "projects mis à jour"->double click a project, it wil open in the under half of your iMovie window, now look not at the top but at the bottem of the left column.
    b. select an event, make a new project, ad some footage, again at the left column down left you will see possibilities to ad transitions, titles, but also to access your iTunes library.

  • ITunes does not see iPhoto Albums

I've been struggling with getting my iPhoto library to show up in iTunes for synching with my iPod and Apple TV. I read through a bunch of posts and tried rebuilding my iPhotos database (when out of iTunes and other iLife apps).
    It didn't work.
I then pulled the AlbumData.xml into Text Wrangler and "Zapped Gremlins" which removes all odd characters. I dropped it back into the standard location and opened up iTunes. Viola! It was there. I jumped back into iPhoto and put together a new album with photos that I wanted to synch.
I went back into iTunes -- nadda. Nothing. No list.
What's going on? Why is iPhoto putting bad characters into the xml that is not letting iTunes read it?
    Any ideas?
I am running the latest iLife suite.

Ok, after a few hours of trial and tribulation using Text Wrangler, I isolated the bad characters to three photos with strange characters in their file names. They were scanned images that were probably accidentally named with a bad character. I edited the file name -- that does not work. I edited the xml file and file name. That does not work.
Finally, I saved the comments for each photo, deleted them from iPhoto and reimported those three and applied the three comments. That worked. Ouch. I hope this helps someone so that they do not need to work on this for so long.

  • IMovie 08 does not see  my JVC GZ-MG505 anymore

2 mnths ago I could import from my JVC GZ-MG505. Today I wanted to import movies from my JVC camera again, but I movie 08 doesnt see it anymore. I opened app. CamExtractor to check if the connection is OK and it was. It read the photo's that are on it, but somehow iMovie doe not see it. What should I do. I already tried trashed the "com.apple.imovie7.plist" but that didn't help either. Can someone help me?

Go to Settings - Privacy - Photos.  My guess is that you do not have iMovie switched "On"

  • IMovie '09 does not see certain pictures in iPhoto

I made some panoramic pictures from other images taken and added them to my iPhoto '09 library. iMovie doesn't seem to see these pictures, even though they are saved and accessible in iPhoto. Everything is updated and I have tried closing and reopening both applications as well as restarting my computer. Does anyone have any ideas, or is there another way to import these pictures?
    Thanks!

  • IMovie 11 does not import iPhoto pictures correctly. (Just updated to Lion)

I used to make plenty of stopmotion and timelapse videos using iPhoto and iMovie together, and as soon as I updated to Lion, iMovie will make every uploaded photo become one of the photos in the movie. When trying to play back, it only shows a black screen also. I was trying to make a slideshow but every picture ends up being the same one.
         Thank You,
              ChadG

Unfortunately, from reading the iMovie Discussion Board every day religiously this seems to happen. Somehow something clears up after having a big problem for a while. One thing to try is have iPhoto 'rebuild' its Library file by hold down Command key + Option key then launch iPhoto. This will bring up a dialog box with a number of options/check boxes. I don't know enough about each one to say which ones to check or uncheck. Possibly check all of them and let iPhoto run it's course until it finishes. You will have to wait a while if you have very large iPhoto library, but it might clear up this problem of importing photos from iPhoto especially after a OS X 10.7 Lion update.

  • IMovie trailer does not allow my videos to have sound

When I put my video clip into the slot for the trailers the sound did not play. I turned on the sound button in the upper left corner but it only played the volume for some of the clips. What do I do?

    Hi Alsardo,
If the sound for the clips in the tarlier are not playing then it is because imovie plays music/sound effects in the traliers. Therefore imovie removes the sound for the clips.  I am sorry that you can not play the clips sound, but I belive you can make a tralier like the one you are trying to make in a no theme movie. If it is the promblem with the music not playing then it might be a promblem with your speakers or something wrong in system preferences. I hope this helps.

  • Encoder 3.1 on Windows 7 64bit does not see video card

    hi
    any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated;
We are running Newtek's VT[5] on a windows machine and have been
very successful running Flash Media Live Encoder 3.1, streaming Live
    to a server.
    Recently we were upgraded from XP and 32bit to Windows 7 and 64bit;
Now the encoder does NOT see the video, although it recognizes both
the VT video device and VT audio device. My understanding is that
Flash Media Live Encoder 3.1 should run on the operating system
and with Newtek VT[5] (even though the VT capture card is not on Adobe's
    official list)
    http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/flashmediaencoder/FMLE_DeviceMatrix3.1.pdf
Of course....Adobe wants me to purchase a contract for tier-2 support to answer
the question of whether the encoder will work on our 'new' setup.
    again,
    any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated;

Are you sure that correct and latest device drivers are installed on that machine?
Please check the video device settings. If FMLE is able to detect the device it should get the signal and work with that.

  • I am trying to import i frame from an SD90 video camera to iMovie, but it does not see the camera. Footage goes to i photo Why?

I am trying to import video ( i frame) from an sd90 ( listed for mac) but i movie does not see the camera. It imports into i photo. Is this normal ?

If you quit iPhoto and iMovie (with the camera still attached) then put the camera into VCR playback mode. Then launch iMovie and see if it can see the camera. If not, get out the power adapter for the camera and plug it into the wall, plug the camera into the power adapter. Reboot your Mac and wait for iPhoto to launch again automatically. Don't let it import the clips, just say No, quit the program. Then put the camrea int VCR/Playback mode, launch iMovie and check again to see if it can see the camera. Once iMovie sees it the first time it should be quicker to recognize it in future. But iPhoto does try to race in there and grab everything first.
To turn this off go to iPhoto Menu in iPhoto > Preferences > Look for Connecting camera opens: (click on the pulldown menu and choose No Application) This effectively turns off iPhoto when you first attach the camera. And it opens the way to iMovie recognizing it quicker.

  • Something went wrong with iPad photo/Video import and now iPhoto on Mac does not see content.

I just connected my iPad (4.3.2) to my mac (10.5). It launched the synch process for photos and videos and everything went fine. I then clicked on one of the newly imported photos in iPhoto and it choked and ultimately closed the app and gave me message along the lines of "iPhoto quit Unexpectedly." I rebooted the machine and when it came up went to look in iPhoto and saw that the new photos/video were not there. They are still on the iPad (Fortunately!) However when I reconnect the iPad to the Mac it does not see any content to import. In essence it seems to think it did the import and is not aware that it lost the content.
There's a couple possible solutions I'm interested in. One, are the photos/video somewhere on the Mac and just need to be dug up? I nosed around a bit but found nothing. Then other solution would be is there some way to force iPhoto to reimport what's on the iPad, ignoring that it feels it's already done this?
    Thanks,
    Wil

Where did these photos come from to begin with? Did you import them from the iPad into iPhoto on your Mac? Is that what you are saying here?
