Imovie 11 hangs on start up - /Users
iMovie 11, Mountain Lion 10.8.1 on iMac Intel i7 8Gb RAM. Project and Events on 2Tb USB3.0 disk independent of MichintoshHD.
Hanging on start up. Does not start to load the Project or Event Libraries.
I have read various threads after Googling the issue.
This is what I have attempted so far which hasn't worked
1. in case on issue with large iPhoto library, created a empty photo library and switched iPhoto to that.
2. reinstalled iMovie 11, removing various .plists and cache at the same
3. followed iMovie FAQ post on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cL9RuDV3Qc. Used OnyX to clean and repair as suggested.
4. removed Flip4Mac WMV Player and repaired disk permissions using DiskUtility
I have left iMovie running over night (8hrs) and still hung in the morning.
However what appears to work is if I create a new user profile and then run iMovie all is good, finding the Project and Event librarys on the USB attached disk. However I have also read that this only works for a period and then the hanging problem reoccurs. I have already had this happen a couple of times but generally its OK. However I don't want to move to this new user profile if the problems are going to reoccur.
Any ideas?

Thanks for the replies but I have finally worked it out and found the problem.
I had previous had a USB disk connected as a network file share (NAS) device on my wireless router but removed the disk it as never worked very well. I had defined a mount point which I'd forgotten about as it wasn't showing up in Finder. The mount wasn't an issue until I changed my wireless router last week which had a different IP address. I guess iMovie was timing out / hanging waiting for the mount point ; must be unique behavour to iMovie as the iLife products (iPhoto, iDVD, etc), iTunes, etc were all working OK.
Anyway using the Directory Utility (found in System Perferences > User & Groups > Login Options > Network Account Server > Open Directory Utility), I removed the Mount point record (needs a reboot to fully remove) and iMovie back to normal. If anyone is interested there's more info on network shares here http://images.apple.com/business/docs/Autofs.pdf

Imovie 09 hangs on start-up, events and projects won't load
hi
been using imovie 09 with no problems since it came out
editing some footage today - I quit out of imovie - when I opened it again later - it opens up without the splash screen, doesn't load any projects or events (they remain untouched in movies folder) - menu items seem accessible - computer gets hot - imovie is constantly using round 20% of CPU - and then imovie crashes
wasn't doing anything strange just before - tried trashing the preferences but to no effect - any more suggestions?sorry but I didn't get console logs - pity, since after this problem with iMovie started then the finder started crashing intermittently, and other programmes behaved strangely
I was wrong when I said I'd had no problems with iMovie 09 - should have said I had no problems with iMovie 08 - earlier today was the first intensive use of 09
since I have other unrelated deadlines to meet that I need my machine for and I keep regular multiple backups - I decided not to waste time troubleshooting but revert to a backup from before I started messing with iMovie - just waiting for that to complete so I can get on with my work
I really have no idea what happened - not a newbie, been using macs since 85 - never experienced this before, well, not since pre-OS X days - so I just stay clear of iMovie 09 for now
as I said, sorry not to have looked at the console logs so you could figure what went wrong - besides working in iMovie 09 I was also exporting some projects to iDVD - maybe it was something to do with the interaction between the two
now back to work -
My iMovie just hangs at start up.
Pie just circles.
Tried force quitting several times and restarting computer.
Please help.
Thanks.Hi
May be You find help here ?
Trouble
When iMovie doesn't work as intended this can be due to a lot of reasons
• iMovie Pref files got corrupted - trash it/they and iMovie makes new and error free one's
• Creating a new User-Account and log into this - forces iMovie to create all pref. files new and error free
• Event or Project got corrupted - try to make a copy and repair
• a codec is used that doesn't work
• problem in iMovie Cache folder - trash Cache.mov and Cache.plist
• version miss match of QuickTime Player / iMovie / iDVD
• preferences are wrong - Repair Preferences
• other hard disk problem - Repair Hard Disk (Disk Util tool - but start Mac from ext HD or DVD)
• External hard disks - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work with Video
( UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most other things - but not for Video )
• USB-flash-memories do not work
• Net-work connected hard disks - do not work
• iPhoto Library got problems - let iPhoto select another one or repair it. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie.
This You do by
_ close iPhoto
_ on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
_ now select all five options presented
_ WAIT a long long time
• free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk to low (<1Gb) - I never go under 25Gb free space for SD-Video (4-5 times more for HD)
• external devices interferes - turn off Mac - disconnect all of them and - Start up again and re-try
• GarageBand fix - start GB - play a few notes - Close it again and now try iMovie
• Screen must be set to million-colors
• Third-party plug-ins doesn't work OK
• Run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac
• Let Your Mac be turned on during one night. At about midnight there is a set of maintenance programs that runs and tidying up. This might help
• Turn off Your Mac - and disconnect Mains - for about 20-30 minutes - at least this resets the FireWire port.
• In QuickTime - DivX, 3ivx codec, Flip4Mac, Perian etc - might be problematic - temporarily move them out and re-try
(I deleted the file "3ivxVideoCodec.component" located in Mac HD/Library/Quicktime and this resolved my issue.)
buenrodri wrote
I solved the problem by removing the file: 3ivxVideoCodec.component. after that, up-dated iMovie runs ok.
Last resort: Trash all of iMovie and re-install it

Hi,
My firefox-profiles in Ubuntu, are practically one-timers.
Next time i want to use firefox it hangs at start. The window comes up
and it's white, except for a square in upper left corner (without color).
I'm having this problem since June 2010, when I started using an electronic ID,
for access to Swedish goverment organisations. The Electronic ID (BnakID) is
supported in Windows, Mac and Ubuntu. I had a new installation of Ubuntu, in a
virtual machine at that time.
I can't say that this is a problem with Firefox in Ubuntu or some other
combination, I'm a newbie with Ubuntu and BankID.
I've used been using Firefox and installing (Firebird, Mozilla) since 2001,
in other OS:es than Ubuntu (Solaris, RedHat, Windows and SLED).
My workaround are:
- cd ~/.mozilla/firefox
- mv profiles.ini profiles.ini-
- Start and stop firefox
- Copy some files from previous profile, to the new.
cd <previous>.default
cp -r bookmark* cert8.db content-prefs.sqlite cookies.sqlite* \
extensions* places.sqlite* prefs.js sessionstore.* signons.sqlite* \
../<new>.default/
- Start firefox
My environment:
Linux uw000141 2.6.32-26-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Wed Nov 24 09:00:03 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux
Mozilla Firefox 3.6.13, Copyright (c) 1998 - 2010 mozilla.org
BR,
HenrikTry the fix posted by houseboats in this discussion: spinning beachball suddenly every time at launch. Other users have reported that it fixed their problem which is similar to yours, good with airport off, freeze with airport on.
The only problem I had with the fix was that it killed the name I gave my computer in the System/Sharing preference pane. So if you use it go to that pane and rename your computer as it was originally.

Read through all the discussions and I seek help with the following. Safari hangs at start up. The window appears but the only thing I see is a spinning colored wheel. Did a force quit, repaired disk permissions and rebooted but still nothing. This is the error report under force quit:

Any help will be greatly appreciatedHi,
These hangs that mention "URL Cache" in the reports tend to be fixed by clearing out some of the system level caches (some of these are still user specific, despite living under the /System folder).
To give that area a clean, download [Onyx|http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html] and use the settings shown in the screenshot of the appropriate version for your OS X.
Good luck! -
My daughter, who has been using iMovie for the last 1.5 years, recently ran into a "partial hang" in her new project. The symptoms are that, for a particular movie, the application doesn't respond to any mouse manipulations of buttons or slide bars or to select any clips, etc. On the other hand, the menus can be opened and scrolled through, and certain operations such as emptying the wastebasket can be done by choosing the item on a menu.
This hang occurred after several hours of working on a fairly small (about 20-30 minutes of clips) moview, during which time she added many transitions, special effects, titles, and so on. After the first hang, she started another movie project, re-imported the clips, and the hang occurred after several hours of working on the new copy.
Interestingly, she can quit iMovie with no trouble and re-open iMovie. If she re-opens the same project, the project screen doesn't appear on the screen until she clicks on the Finder and then re-selects the iMovie app. She can also open any other movie project and it seems to work fine. It's worth noting that, for the movie project that hangs, the CPU utilization is not high, we have 60Gbytes of internal disk left (the project is on internal disk) and memory usage (we have 1.5 Gbytes) is low.
Even more interestingly, while playing around with the hung movie project, I successfully emptied the movie project trash, and that seemed to unhang the project. After experimenting with a few things, I saved the project and quit the app. However, when the movie project was re-opened, it was back to the hung state. I've been able to unhang the project temporarily again by saving the project under another name.
We are currently at version 6.0.2 of iMovie, upgraded in early July. Our MacOS level is 10.3.7. This project is the third project she's started since the upgrade, although its true that she hasn't completed any of them yet so the hang may still appear in some of her other projects.
We don't have much other software installed on the iMac, although Macromedia Flash and Adobe Photoshop are installed.
Does anybody have any advice?hi Jody, Karsten again (Karl is the other one, the really smart, I'm just talking smart ... ),
please follow Karl's advice, given in the mentioned link, you just have to read his first 4 - 5 chapters, esp. "workarounds"...
2) … besides that "too many audio clips cause stutter" - video needs LOTS of diskspace... a computer (and iMovie...) can show the same symptoms, when your drive is "full".
switch to Finder, select your drive by single-clicking on hit and hit the two keys "Apple" and I (as Info)... tell us, what you read in "avaliable disk space"... a guess from remote here is, you drive has very little free disk space... "little" reads as "less then 5 - 10 GB" - yepp, GB, not MB... a Mac needs at last 5 - 10GB free on internal drive (ext. drives don't count...), just for running smoothly....
tell us a little more... -
RAC hangs when starting or stopping 2nd instance of 2 node RAC
Has anyone seen the problem with all transactions and/or logins hanging when starting or stopping the 2nd node of a 2 node RAC database. When I shut down the 2nd instance using srvctl I occasionally get errors and long delays connecting. On our larger database with instances having a very large SGAs, trying to connect you sometimes get ORA-12537 or ORA-01033. Users experience a very long hang before getting the errors. These instances have very large SGAs of about 30GB on each node.
In the log of the first instance we see messages like the following for quite a while.

Thanks in advance.I have tested with only one node and starting and stopping is much faster without any cache fusion traffic. The application is not RAC aware, it was written without regard for RAC. As you say there may be some accessing of the same block by all nodes causing RAC to remaster blocks when a node is shut down.
My concern is the length of time users are afftected when I am starting a node that has been offline for a while. With the large SGA I have, it appears users are affected adversely for several minutes, in affect causing an outage which we are trying to avoid by using RAC. -
Maverick update release of iMovie 10. Where is the user Guide?
Used imovie to produced many good videos right before Maverick update. iMovie 10 need lots of learning. Any one has idea of good user guide other than taking some on-line classes?
How to work every thing with the external hard drive? I did that before, but I can't do it with iMovie10.
All the library from iMovie 10 looks like whole bunch of garbage, why?
Can I remove all the old files related to iMovie and start from scrtch? Like a brand new user to iMove.
How to create an event? Even have problem capture video from Canon Vixia G10. I didn't have the problem with the previous version of iMovie.

KDE / gnome hang while starting
Hi,
well, KDE and Gnome hang while starting them, when I change back to console, I can read the following:
xset: bad font path element (#63), possible causes are:
Directory does not exist or has wrong permissions
Directory missing fonts.dir
Incorrect font server address or syntax
I reinstalled xorg, kde, gnome, but again it simply hangs, xorg starts up normally, but when changing to kde or gnome it hangs
xfce4, wmi, dr17 run well.
I didn change any config filel...
So any idea what could be wrong ?
thanks

Labview 8.0 hangs during start
I am having a recurring problem with LV8.0 hanging during start every few weeks. I startI click the LV icon, LV appears in the Windows taskbar and then it hangs. The NI splash does not appear. Once this behavior starts, it does it every time thereafter. In the Windows Event viewer, I get the following message:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Application Hang
Event Category: (101)
Event ID: 1002
Date: 3/13/2006

Description:
Hanging application LabVIEW.exe, version 8.0.1.4000, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.
I have contacted NI Support, but they were unable to provide a resolution other than suggesting a reinstall. I've done a complete reinstall of LV 8.0 two times already and am poised to do it a third time. I'm getting fed up with the uninstall/reinstall approach since this sucks up 1/2 day of my time per episode.
There are two potentially relevant entries in the Event Viewer, that occurred prior to LV8.0 going into perpetual hang mode.

Any help in finding a solution to this recurring issue would be appreciated!
Thanks!I'm glad to hear the ini file solution worked. It was my first guess as to the source of the problem. The differences are so few between the good and bad file it would be useful if you could try a few edits to narrow the source of the problem. I only suggest this because it may be difficult to reproduce at NI since the problem may be specific to your installation of various NI software. This will probably only take 10-15 minutes.
You'll see in the ini files that the differences come down to the lines that start with the list below. I am most suspicious of the section starting ProbeDefaultCache. I don't think the window position or recent files list has anything to do with the hang. I am not sure why there are parenthesis around ",CleanUpWire" in the good ini file. Everything below the empty line below is only in the bad ini file and not in the good. I think I would start by 1) making it hang again with the bad ini file, 2) deleting everything from the bad ini below the empty line below, 3) putting quotes around ",CleanUpWire" in the 4th line below, 4) deleting the recent files list, 5) updating the window position, AND FINALLY 6) changing the ProbeDefaultCache to that of the good ini file. If it turns out to be 2 that fixes the problem, I'd add it back and then delete lines one at a time.
Let me know what you find.

Repeating Job Can Hang In "Started" Status On Multi-Cpu Windows Machine
Dear All,
I am struck with a know Bug 3092358 "Repeating Job Can Hang In "Started" Status On Multi-Cpu Windows Machine". The Work around is mentioned in Note:307448.1 in metalinks.
In the above doc for the Fix-3 Another option that worked is to try:
Upgraded to EM 9.2.0.6 and applied the Apr05 CPU.
I searched in metalinks to get patch to upgrade EM from 9.2.0.1 to 9.2.0.6. But not able to find can some tell me where can i get this patch.
OS: windows 2003 server
DB:9.2.0.1
OWB :9.2
Pls,do let me know if there any other work arounds,
Thanks for your help.
Rgds,
Satya. While I dunno the specifics of NT threads, one way to spread 1 thread across multiple processors is by simply round robining the thread between the processors over time. i.e. Thread A spends 0.5seconds executing on cpu 1, for the next 0.5 s the thread is moved over to cpu2 and executed there, then it is moved back to cpu1 and so on...
I think the Convex SPP used this model, the motivation perhaps being to spread load evenly among all cpus. Made sense in a multi-user multi-cpu system with a real fast bus.
cheers

You know you've been spending too much time on the computer when your friend misdates a check, and you suggest adding a "++" to fix it. -

Where to look for the errors
Please help, i have searched everywhere, there are no solutions for this.
Advanced thanksIf you want to run the EPM weblogic admin server and OBIEE at the same time then you would need for them to run on different ports.
You don't have to select the essbase option when installing OBIEE if you have already installed the essbase products.
I would install OBIEE to a different middleware home than EPM and keep the weblogic domains separate.
Cheers

Dreamweaver MX 2004 hangs at start on new Mac Mini OS X 10.5.5
Dreamweaver MX 2004 hangs at start on Brand New Mac Mini OS X
10.5.5.
Mac Mini is brand new, right out of the box. Fresh OS.
I try to start Dreamweaver, and it hangs, and then the
Problem Report comes up with the attached info. I've uninstalled,
downloaded Dreamweaver and re-installed. Nothing works.
----------------------- Here is the Problem report
----------------------Thanks for the reply.
I downloaded and installed the update.
I still get the exact same problem, and error report.
I have the exact same problem with Fireworks MX 2004 as well.
After a fresh download and install of the software, clicking on the
application icon just causes it to bounce momentarily in the dock,
and then it crashes and the error log comes up.
I have been able to install Flash CS4 without incident,
though. It works fine, with no problems.
I shouldn't have to do this on a brand new mini right out of
the box, but I'm going to run a restore on it, and then try a fresh
install once again. -
Jdbc sender adapter hangs and starts showing "Processing Started" forever
Dear ,
We are facing some issues with jdbc sender adapter channel on production system
Environment : XI 3.0 SP 20 + HP-UX 11.23 ia64 + Oracle 10.2
Sometimes it hangs and starts showing "Processing Started" forever on communication channel monitoring .
There is no error log for this.
If i stop it and then start it , no use.
If i copied this to a new one then it works.
I have found few SAP note like 1078420,1083488 , but my system is already at higher patch level.
Can you please advise me something as we are facing in production frequently.
Regards,
SandeepHi Sandeep,
This problem even we too faced in our project and thought of many stupid things finally found that the JDBC adapter is LOCKED.
Check in the Visual Admin >Cluster> "LOCKING ADAPTER"
we get a option of Display Locks .Check for an entry with
NAME : $XIDBAD.JDBC2XI
reset the locks and restart the CC ,now it works fine.
Note 1083488 - XI FTP/JDBC sender channel stop polling indefinitely(04/04S)
Thanks
Sudharshan
