IMovie 11 import playback speed 2x

I'm using iMove 11 on my MacBook pro 15 inch. Importing video from a panasonic pv-gs400. Fist video clip import plays back at 1x speed.  All subsequent clips imported in the same import session are 2x. Playback on camcorder and Mac is 1x during import.
I can manually import each clip and will get correct 1x speed on playback.  If I try to import multiple clips in one session I get 2x playback for all but first clip.
Please help.

  • IMove '08 Import - Playback Issue

I'm new to iMovie and MACs altogether. My problem is this:
I'm pulling old video tapes into ElGato EyeTV250. I then export the video, (I've tried mp4, dv, H.264 and .mov formats).
I then import the movie into iMovie '08 -- creating a New Event. I see the clips in the lower half of the program, but nothing in the upper half. There, I still see the three squares and "Drag media here to create a new project" and a black window in the upper right.
I've tried importing with all the above-mentioned formats and I've tried a couple of clips pulled off the VHS tapes. It's not working.
Also, when I tried pulling one of these clips into iMovie '06 (which I re-installed), I only get the video in ONE square. In this case, I can view it in the main screen, but you can't edit anything if you get one green square representing the video.
I'd really appreciate some advice on this. I moved over to MAC from Windows Media Center, thinking it would be easier. So far, it's been rather frustrating. I guess the two iMovie versions hasn't helped.
    Thanks!

Don't "import." Once the files are in your lower "Events" area, simply grab the icon for the file you want to add to your project and drop it in the upper "Project" window "Drag 'n drop" work area. (Alternatively you can turn on the "Edit" icon, Option-click the file you want in the "Events" window, and the entire clip will be automatically added to the project if the "show advanced tools" preference is turned on).
Also, when I tried pulling one of these clips into iMovie '06 (which I re-installed), I only get the video in ONE square. In this case, I can view it in the main screen, but you can't edit anything if you get one green square representing the video.
If you haven't modified preference settings, imported/dropped files are initially added to the "Clips" resource area (to the upper right of the main player). Simply drag and drop files from this area to the "Timeline" at the bottom of the screen (i.e., under the main player) in order to edit them.

  • Imovie Mac importing problem or Camcorder problem?

I run a small business for kids parties. I video the kids dancing along to a track they have recorded (played on a cd player). Then i import the video, turn off the camcorder sound and import the finished mixed track of their singing and sync the picture and audio together. This has been working perfectly for over a year. But unfortunately in the last month when i try to sync up the audio track with the video, it starts off synced up perfectly, but gradually as the video goes on the video and audio become out of sync and by the end the video is either too fast or too slow. this is a huge problem! I thought it may the tapes in the video camera so i changed them and it's still doing it. Is this a video camera problem or computer importing problem. Can anyone help as it's ruining the kids DVDs!

I am surprised it has ever worked. That can normally only be done with synched professional equipment. Maybe they changed the CD player at the performance and the old one happened to play at the same rate as your Mac when it imports? (There is a slight difference between the playback speed between different players)
Or perhaps your video camera has become slightly worn, so it pulls the tape slower?
There are endless possibilities for problems with your setup.
I think you should take a look at the "add scaled" tip at the bottom here:
    http://danslagle.dvmix.com/mac/iMovie/audio/1001.shtml
(Instead of adding the extracted audio from iMovie, you should add the CD audio.)

  • Playback speeded up

I have an iTouch. I imported a cd with meditations on it into my computer. They all play just fine. I created a playlist on my iTouch, and put them into it. When I play the playlist on my iTouch - 3 of the 4 are in fast mode...I deleted the playlist, and tried it again - same thing happened... Any suggestions on how to fix. The iTouch is up to date, as is the iTunes on my computer....

Go to the play screen with the three fast content.  On the right and slightly below the scrubber bar is there a ox with 1/2X, 1X or 2X?  Those are the playback speeds that appear with podcasts and audio books.  To change the playback speed, tap the box to cycle through the speeds.

  • IMovie camera import issues

I am unable to import mp4 video from new Canon HF M50 into iMovie 11 on my MacBook Air. The camera shows up in system profile as connected and is shown in iPhoto, but not in iMovie. I want to avoid adding large videos to my photo library and use iMovie to import clips. This process worked one time, but I am unable to replicate. Any suggestions?

So, I played around with the options and now I am able to import video directly into iMovie.  I erased all media from the internal flash and the sdhc card. I was recording in 9mbps mpeg-4 format.  I changed to AVCHD format (SP mode). I recorded a clip, switched to playback mode and plugged in camera to power and USB. A prompt came up on the camera screen to select the memory source (ALL-PC Only, Internal, or Card).  I chose Card and then iMovie (already open) opened up the Video Import box.  I tried this with a clip saved on the Internal memory and that worked as well.  Before, I was not getting the prompt to select which memory to read.
Overall, this is good I think.  I was concerned I would not being able to edit AVCHD clips in iMovie, but now it seems like that is the only clip I am able to import.

  • Saving playback speed?

Hi, I'm using Quicktime Pro and i noticed that you can change the playback speed in the A/V controls, however I can't seem to find a way to save it like this? I have a video I want to speed up and save that way. I first did this in iMovie HD, but when I saved it, the quality was noticeably worse than the original, so I was hoping maybe there is a way to do this in Quicktime.

I first did this in iMovie HD, but when I saved it, the quality was noticeably worse than the original, so I was hoping maybe there is a way to do this in Quicktime.
Basically there are two strategies here -- 1) rescaling the player duration in QT Pro or 2) re-scaling the time reference in an application like the JES Deinterlacer (free).
    1) In the first method, simply create a new QT player having content whose duration is a fraction (less than 1X length for fast motion) or a multiple (greater than 1X the length for slow motion), copy/paste the original content to the new player using the "scale" option, delete the track used to reset scaling, and save the modified file.
    2) In the second, you simply rescale the timing reference scale for the movie playback and re-save the file under a new name.
Since no re-compression of the video track is performed, the original video quality is not changed as such.

  • Changing video playback speeds

I'm trying to watch videos for class on Blackboard. Quicktime is not supported. I use Real Player. I would like to be able to use quicktime. I also would like to be able to speed up and slow down the lecture. I have heard of a program called Enounce, but it is only available for windows. Is there a similar program to use with Mac OS???

Are you able to alter playback speeds, to speed up and slow down while watching a video. What I mean is, if I'm relistening to a lecture, can I speed up the lecturer and slow him back to regular talk when it is an important portion to the lecture. I noted a product called Enounce (enounce.com). It is available for windows based computers only. Please look at this and tell me if there are settings or options in Quicktime or anyother video player that you can preform these same functions. I'm relatively new to Mac. I love the computer, but am still learning the differences from PC. Thanks again.

Playback speed in Sample Editor window many, many times faster than track (at correct speed) in arrange area. How do I sync Sample Editor playback speed to correct speed/tempo in arrange area? Track is spoken word. Sample Editor playback sounds like Alvin on a meth binge. Spoken phrase is generated from Textspeech. Textspeech can export files as WAV files or MP3 files. Perhaps a clue?:   When exported Textspeech WAV file is dragged and dropped into track in arrange area of new project, it exhibits same supersonic speed. When Textspeech file is exported as MP3 file and dragged and dropped in arrange area track, it plays at correct speed.

    Thanks Erik,
If nothing else, this huge list of updates and fixes, shows clearly that the Logic Dev team is working hard on fixing and improving LPX to a major degree.... and from the list of fixes done.. show they do read the bug reports submitted!
    As an aside....
I recall how all the 'naysayers' prior to LPX (and in some cases, since...)  were proclaiming how Logic was dead, the team was being disbanded, we won't see any further development, the Dev team doesn't listen or care... and so on....... I wonder where those people are now?

  • How can I slow down the playback speed of selected parts of a captivate video?

    Hi everybody,
I'm pretty new to Captivate and although it offers some great tools, there is something that I just can't get to work:
I'm creating a video tutorial about how to use a website i'm working with so I've tried using "Automatic" ("Demo" mode chosen) recording option which is recommended for this type of video. However, the video recorded has a different playback speed than the amount of time I recorded. This means that some of the slides have a quicker playback speed than the way I recorded, thereby not leaving enough time to show the given feature.
The recording mode with the most "true" playback was "Full motion". However, I would still like to be able to slow down selected parts of the video, but can only find guides on how to slow down the entire presentation.
Can you please advise me on how to slow down only selected parts of the project? If this is not possible in Captivate, please advise me on which video editing software (where you can slow down the playback speed on selected parts of the video) is compatible with Captivate 5?
    Thanks!

Thank you. Andrew Kramer's Video Copilot video, which I somehow managed to miss, was very helpful.
I had a 79 second clip which I precomposed and enabled time remapping. But I have 12 places where I need to slow down the layer. After a while, I was runing out of room to add more keyframes using the method promoted in many videos and instruction sites (grab the last two keyframes, including the end frame, and drag).
In reality, you can add keyframes wherever you like and you can adjust them however works best within the existing timeline without messing with the duration, etc.
    Much appreciated.

  • Playback speeds up intermittently on first scene when played after build

    Hi
I have a problem with playback on apple dvd player after completing the build? When I play the authored project on apple dvd player after the build, after clicking on the play button in the main menu, the first scene (about 1 min. long) playback speeds up intermittently-normal speed then fast for a second then normal then fast-jumpy I guess might describe it. This only happens on the first scene with all the other scenes after this point in the timeline playing fine. I placed 2 new clips (different assets-scenes) to replace the first scene & the same issue happens with different asset clips being used in the same position (first) in the track timeline.
The scenes I used are pans of a running deer, which play fine anywhere else in the track timeline except the first position. When I play the project it's fine in simulator mode & in the project itself...this only happens after the build when playing on apple dvd player from VIDEO_TS folder. This is a test project for some footage so it's only 10 minutes long with bit rates at 5-6 ave. & 6-7.4 max.
    -2 pass VBR-best motion.
Any ideas on what is going on?
    I'm using DVDSP 2 with Jaguar 10.2.8.
    Thanks for any help.
    Della

    Della:
Not a clue about the problem, sorry, but can "imagine" a workaround just to fool the problem.
You must have a PLAY button that connect to that first scene (first chapter in the track, I guess). If you connect that button to the second chapter (just to try) that plays fine or again behaves as it was first?
If that way plays fine, you can add a "false" first scene (i.e. one second of black exported from FCP) and connect the PLAY button to the real first (now second in the track) chapter.
I told you, it's just a workaround to have in hand in case your dead line gets close!!

  • Changing Audio Book Playback Speed?

I wasn't able to find where you can change the playback speed of Audio Books in iTunes.  Can someone point me to where this setting is?
It's pretty easy on iPhone/iPod/etc... it's just a little button under the scrubber that allows for 1/2x, 1x, or 2x.  But I can't see the option in iTunes.  I'd assume iTunes on a Mac is capable of as much or more than the functions on an iPod/iPhone, but...  I can't find the button.

In any case, if my Mac had problems, I'd send it in for service....!!!
About your problem, I don't think that it depends on hardware.
I'd check Live configuration and the SR of the audio files: you know, Live has so many features to modify speed and a lot of other parameters that bacomes easy to forget something.
Try recording something with Garage Band so you will be sure if there is a real problem.
    cheers

  • Can i connect a Samsung VP-D381 to iMovie to import videos?

I have recently bought a Samsung VP-D381 Mini DV camcorder, and have just tried to connect it to iMovie to import a video that i have just recorded, only to find that Samsung do not have any software or drivers for the Apple OS...
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how i could get this to work?
    Thanks

    Hello,
(I posted the same answer to a similar thread)
I have the same camcorder and same issue, though with iMovie '09.
Symptoms on my Samsung VP-D381 are :
I can import when in Camera mode (live capture)
I cannot import what has been recorded on tape (import window stays blue)
I can forward and rewind and stop.
I found a trick I hope will be useful for you :
    open iMovie.
without connecting it yet, put your Panasonic on "Play".
when video plays, plug the DV cable in.
iMovie opens the video import window and then you should see the tape playing.
press the "Import" button to capture the DV stream.
Let me know if you find other ways to get it to work. I'm quite frustrated Samsung cannot make a DV camcorder work with iMovie, 14 years after DV went out!

  • Confused about Sony HDR-SR7 and iMovie '08 import

I have my camera set to record at HD XP (15Mb/s). If I look on the camera hard drive at an arbitrary .mts file that is 107.3MB and import that into iMovie '08 at the Full (1920x1080) setting, that 107.3MB file turns into a whopping 854.5MB, while the Large (960x540) setting yields a much more reasonable 287.3MB file size (yet still double the size of the raw file sitting on the hard drive).
There's got to be some re-encoding going on, but what's the point? Why take a 100MB file and explode it to 800MB when you can't get any more quality out of the 100MB file?
Is it just the fact that iMovie doesn't actually support whatever native codec Sony's AVCHD uses, so it needs to re-encode it using AIC whose compression isn't as good as whatever codec AVCHD is using?
So this poses a real dilemma for me - do I import at Full or do I import at Large? Where does one notice the difference? If I blow up the 960 file to display the same size as the 1920 file, I can totally see artifacts on my 30" ACD, but would they show up on my Pioneer plasma TV? PDP-5070HD (1365x768))
Assuming I stay on Full quality - is there any way I can accurately tell how much hard drive space an import is going to consume? Right now my 60GB drive is rammed to the gills and I want to dump it all, but I need to make sure I have the space. 1:8?

    Hi
*First: it sounds like you are not importing to iMovie, it sounds like you are trying to browse to the clips. That may not work.*
Ok - I was trying to import and also to view directly on the camcorder (but not at the same time). It was maybe 2 questions rolled into one so apologies if that was confusing...
*Second:You have SD and HD mixed, All of the SD has to be imported before any HD can be imported according to the manual.*
So what would I do, import SD movies first, and then delete it to then import HD specifically? Or do I just import SD and then import HD separately without deleting SD footage from the camcorder?
*Third point: The clips can be on the hard drive or the card. The camera has to be set to the media with the clips you want to import. If you recorded to the card, then switched to the hard drive, you won't be able to import the card video until you switch back.*
I dont have a card at the moment - only using the HDD.
*When you have the import working it is a matter of using the check box to select the clips you want.*
i assume iMovie loads them all up and asks you which ones you want to import?
*Alos one final point for video on the card I find it much easier to use a card reader to import. When I plug in the card reader to my usb port it mounts on the desk top, I start iMovie and the import screen comes up after iMovie is all opened up and running.*
I dont see much point in the card reader at the moment as the HDD is 120GB whereas I assume memory sticks only go to 8GB or so max...
*I hope I have been of some help.*
yes thanks for that - but am still confused by the whoel iMovie & HD import situation and how I should be doing it
    All help appreciated

  • Using old version iMovie and import from new camcorder

I got a new camcorder which won't let me import to the old version 4.0.1 Does anyone have any idea how to move the clips to the old version from the 7.1.4 version which is sooo infuriating. The old one was soooo simple to use as I don't need 90% of the NEWER features. I also miss being able to turn one frame into a photo.

I got a new camcorder which won't let me import to the old version 4.0.1
As an iLife '08 owner you are also entitled to a free download of iMovie HD v6.0.4 if you want it.
Does anyone have any idea how to move the clips to the old version from the 7.1.4 version which is sooo infuriating.
You can open the named_Event folder containing the iMovie '08 imported clips and "drag 'n drop" them to an open previous version of iMovie or you can open the previous version of iMovie, select the "Import" option, navigate to the named_Event folder, select the file(s) you want, and import it/them to the older application.
I also miss being able to turn one frame into a photo.
JPEG images are automatically created in the named_Project folder any time a single frame is selected/added to an iMovie '08 project. They can also be created by QT Pro ($30) or MPEG Streamclip (free) directly from a source video clip.
