IMovie 11 is locking up completely (Never ending SBOD) whenever I launch it, making it completely unusable. Anyway to "reset" it?

I just purchased a new 27" iMac. I successfully imported a huge (27k) photo library into iPhoto. When I launched iMovie, it asked (if I remember correctly) whether it was ok to index whatever videos were in iPhoto. I said sure, iMovie then spend some time indexing (or generating thumbnails, or whatever) the movies. However, after that, iMovie locked up. When I Option+Command+Esc 'ed, it showed iMovie was unresponsive, so I forced quit. Now, every time I try and start iMovie, it is locked, and I immediately get the SBOD. Any ideas on how to remedy this?

When I went to my preferences looking for the com.apple.imovieapp.plist string you said to drag to desktop. It as not there. what should I do?
The file "com.apple.iMovieApp.plist" is the preference file for iMovie '11. The file for iMovie '09 is "com.apple.iMovie8.plist". Earlier versions will have a similar name - all will show iMovie, with some having a version number, but others having no version number. It's safe to delete any .plist files for any version of iMovie. Always close iMovie first, then delete the .plist file. When next opened, iMovie will create a fresh file with the default settings, which you can change in iMovie's menu item iMovie>Preferences if desired.
All user preferences files are located in your User (Home) folder Library>Preferences. Deleting the file will not harm your Events or Projects, but may fix iMovie's abnormal behaviour. The file can become corrupted in some circumstances, such as when iMovie quits unexpectedly or is Force Quit.

  • Ipod boot never end...

    Hi all,
    I have a big prob with my ipod photo 40GB : I tried to use it in disk mode to backup my hard disk, and during the copy the ipod gave a unknow error. Since this the ipod start the boot (white apple on black background) and never end, the boot restart every 5-10 secondes... no ipod on dekstop so no way to reinstall it with ipod updater. I tried the 5R but it still the same... Please help !!!
    Thanks in advance
    Phil

    I am experiencing the identical problem. I am hoping that if I drain the battery until it is completely dead it may force a "hard" reset which when charged again, it may start working properly.
    Let me know if you find anything out.

  • Sync never ends

    I have a new 32mb Touch. I originally synced it while on vacation with PC #1, and it worked perfectly. Now I am home, and I have attempted to sync it with PC #2.
    I tried several times to sync to PC #2, and each time it would successfully transfer all (or most) of my media, but the sync process would never end.
    I am using iTunes 7.6.1.9, and my Touch is version 1.1.3 with Software Upgrade.
    I even went so far as to do a total restore of the Touch, but this doesn't seem to fix the problem.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

  • UT acquisition never ends

    I have had thi issue in the past and
    TAC provided me a patch under bug id CSCtd49439 but I seem to
    have the same problem again
    I have this acquisition runnng since the 9th and it as never stopped and I don't know why it is showing 45855 hosts, the most we have less than 10000 hosts. Can anyone tell me what cuould be wrong with my server?
    I'm running LMS3.2 on Solaris 10.
    Acquisition status Running
    Acquisition type Major
    Acquisition start time 09 Oct 2010, 05:00:00 EDT
    Last Acquisition end time 08 Oct 2010, 07:44:01 EDT
    Number of acquisitions 1155
    Number of host entries 45855
    Number of duplicate MAC 21341
    Number of duplicate IP 89
    Number of CCM hosts 0
    Number of IP phone entries 0
    Last campus data collection completed at  11 Oct 2010, 12:14:33 EDT
    Campus data collection status  Idle

    A never-ending UT acquisition is not the same as the problem described by CSCtd49439.  That would also not account for an inflated number of end hosts.  Without knowing the exact details of the end hosts, I do know we had an old bug in Campus 4.x where UT would generate perpetual duplicates.  This was fixed in 4.0.11, but one would need to reinitialize the ANI database to remove the duplicates.  If this is an upgrade from LMS 2.6, then perhaps you still have old, stale data.  Running this command would fix that:
    NMSROOT/bin/perl NMSROOT/campus/bin/reintdb.pl -ut
    As for the never-ending UT, check to see if the UTMajorAcquisition process is still running.  If so, contact TAC, and they can walk you through the process to get a thread dump from this process.  That will help identify what the process is doing and whether or not this is some kind of deadlock, or a configuration issue.

  • Http Request never ends

    Hi,
    Well I had a few minutes on my hand and decided to build a simple socket application that handles a browser request with a hello. Then I decided to complicate that a little and to actually send back what I receive. However the while loop that checked the input from the browser never ends (that is I never get a 1 from inputStream.read() method).
    Could someone please explain me why this happens? And how this could be solved? I mean how to detect that the request is over and it is time to respond. (In other words how can I base my response according to the request if I never know when the request is over!).
    Here is the code I used import java.io.BufferedInputStream;
    import java.io.BufferedOutputStream;
    import java.net.ServerSocket;
    import java.net.Socket;
    public class Test7 {
    public static void main(String[] args) {

    So you can't read RFC but can read forums? :)Can you imagine reading documentation about something by continuously minimizing and maximizing the browser window? (which I do when at work so to attract less attention) :)
    Well if you want simplest way then just send header,

  • PFI Compilation never ends

    Hi,
    I have been developping my app since 2 month now and I never had any problem with creating test ipas (ie:target = ipa-test). But when I decided to create my final build for the app store (target = ipa-app-store) the process never ends.
    I run the compilation and it seems to be doing something (I can see the temp files and hear the fans) but it just doesn't stop. I tried many times and usually kill the process after an hour or so.
    I know that other people had a similar problem but I didn't find any official answer for it. Is it a bug? Does it have a workaround?
    I'm on a Mac with Snow Leopard and tried to build the ipa from both Flash CS5 and a custom ant build.
    I would really appreciate some feedback about it.
    Cheers,
    Ben

    First and foremost, compiling for iOS takes a lot of resources, it cannot be compared to packaging for Android, because the process is completely different, AIR on Android runs interpreted code, while on iOS it is native code, before deciding the compilation is stuck you should check the java/adt processes aren't doing anything. It's been said future AIR versions will reduce iOS compilation times.
    Second, I've seen iOS compilation fail and take forever only when using certain ANEs and Flash Builder versions. FB doesn't take too well certain ANE warnings and errors, and instead of ignoring or finishing the process showing some alert, it just sits there making you wait forever. If you are using ANEs in your project, you should isolate the problematic one, and then determine what may be the cause... if some problem with the iOS SDK used with your AIR SDK, if the ANE is causing some unimportant warnings but your IDE doesn't like them, etc.

  • Never-Ending transcoding/importing? Here's the fix.

    Symptom:
    Transcoding keeps getting to 99% or so, and reverting back to 75% and continuing Ad Infinitum in a seeming never-ending loop.
    Problem:
    The registry is corrupted.
    Solution:
    1. Close all programs.
    2. Run Regedit.
    3. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Adobe -> Common.
    4. Delete "Media Cache".
    5. Restart computer.
    Another possible culprit has proved to be an application called "FindSounds Palette" and it should be uninstalled completely using the following method:
    Uninstall "Find Sounds Palette" (FS Palette).
    Delete the two registry key folders for "Comparisonics".
    Uninstall Encore CS3.
    Delete Registry Keys for Encore.
    Restart.
    Re-Install Encore CS3.
    Re-Install Encore 3.0.1 update.
    Restart.

    Never should have been a question - sorry.

  • Launching a never ending vi in sequence

    Hi!
    I have a vi that can basically be represented by a while loop that never stops until i press a button.
    I want to load and run this vi from a sequence without it hanging up that sequence.
    Also, at the end of the sequence it would be great if it could end the loop in the vi.
    For this last part I made the vi read out a variable in my locals and stop the loop as soon as it is a certain value.
    (I think this is a good solution, but any suggestions are of course welcome )
    For being able to run the rest of the sequence, even though the vi never ends, I was less successful.
    I tried putting the vi in a subsequence and then running that subsequence in a different thread.
    However, stepping through the main sequence, it does steps over the call of the subsequence,
    but then the main sequence still freezes until i stop the loop in my vi.
    What am i doing wrong exactly? Any help would be much appreciated!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Run Asynchronous VI basically uses a sequence call module with the "New Thread" option, but I don't think it does much more than that. I think you still have to do ExternallySuspended and/or Termination monitor in your vi. At any rate, I recommend against using Run asynchronous vi as there have been issues with using that step type (confusion over what passing ThisContext means for the most part). See the following link for more details about the issues with Run asynchronous vi if you are interested:
    http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=330&message.id=28101&query.id=753835#M28101
    As far as termination monitor not detecting whether or not the original thread has completed normally, that is not its purpose and not always what a user might want. For example, you might have a worker thread that you want to keep running even after the thread that launched it completes. There might even be more than two threads in the execution and the execution technically isn't complete until all threads are done, including the asynchronous ones. The purpose of the termination monitor is to give the code module a way to detect when the user is requesting a terminate or abort so that it can return and allow the execution to terminate or abort normally (an execution cannot terminate or abort while a code module is still running).
    Like you are suggesting, you can probably pass in the original caller's thread as a parameter to the asynchronous sequence and your VI and call Thread.WaitForEnd on it with a 0 ms timeout to check if it's done in your loop. You need to make sure that you unchecked the "Automatically Wait for the Thread to Complete at the End of the Current Sequence" setting on the advanced panel of your sequence call step though or your threads will both be waiting for each other and never complete. Also the sequence view of the execution is likely to switch to your asynchrous thread at the end because it will be the last thread running, so if you don't want that you should probably just go with passing a boolean variable instead and leave the setting "Automatically Wait for the Thread to Complete at the End of the Current
    Sequence" checked. Do not ever pass ThisContext from one thread to another though as that is the source of the problems people are having with Run VI Asynchronously.
    Hope this helps,
    -Doug

  • Dropped database in a never-ending app

    Hello,
    I have an application which processes all the time by implementing a never-ending loop and a sleep at a given interval. It accesses the database to retrieve, insert and update data throughout the entire process. I have created a connection pool that contains a configurable number of connections (for any future multi-threading) that will be retrieved to complete the SQL transaction and released when it no longer needs it. The list of connections is decreased when I access the pool and increased when the connection is released. My concern is that I would like to detect when the DB has been dropped and brought back up without having to restart my app. The first way to detect it would be to check the connection object when it is used, but I am not sure if that is the way to do it correctly. Does it fail when I create the preparedStatement or when I run executeQuery or executeUpdate? What is the best way to detect whether I need to re-create my pool of connections?
    I appreciate your feedback.
    Thank you

    It will fail when you try to open the connection. If for example you are using a JNDI DataSource when you call the DataSource.getConnection() method it will throw a SQLException with the correct code and message for the database vendor.
    That said, I wouldn't do it the way you're doing it. By holding an open connection, you're pirating a connection resource that the DB may need for something else, or another app might need and in my opinion it's just bad design.
    I would recommend opening the connection at the beginning of the method where you are doing the data access and then closing it (along with all of the other database resources before leaving that method. A general code pattern would look like this.
    public void getSomeInformation(){
      String sql = "SELECT something FROM somewhere" ;
      try{
        // initialize the connection
        // initialize the statement object
        // prepare whatever parameters
        // execute the statement
        // make sure you got some results and process accordingly
      catch(SQLException e){
        // handle any exceptions that might come up
      finally{
        // close the result set
        // close the statement
        // close the connection
        // set all of the above to null to mark them for GC
    }Some of this may seem like overkill, but that's a feeling that goes away when you've had your application spin into the ground because you accidentally left database resources open and killed the database and the application server.
    Yes, there's a little overhead in terms of getting the connection, but it's a delay that my customers have never complained about in the face of the abject reliability of making sure that the house is clean and orderly all the time.

    My Adobe InDesign 2.0 application has automatically gone onto the web and is downloading a file (for the last 8 hours) making the application unusable. The error message I get when trying to launch the application is:
    Downloading: File 2 of 2...
    No personal information is being transmitted.
    File: AWEDBFiles4.awe
    To: Macintosh HD:Library:Application Support:Adobe:Web:AWEDBFiles4.awe
    when I go to the directory where this file is being downloaded, I see a 0 KB file entitled:
    AWEDBFiles4.awe.tmp
    I also see a 4KB text file entitled:
    AWEXFiles.txt when I open it, it says..."we're sorry. Please try again later."
    In the same directory is a 4 KB file entitled AdobeWorkflowTemp_.awf which has 8 entries for 04-14-2007 each saying:
    Downloading
    File is to be downloaded from: http://cgim.adobe.com/adobe_online/getAWEFiles.cgi?App=43&Lang=enu&Platform=2&DL LVer=2.0&AOMVer=2.0
    File is to be downloaded to: Macintosh HD:Library:Application Support:Adobe:Web:AWEXFiles.txt
    Downloading completed at: 04/14/2007 11:57 59 sec
    Result: success
    Can someone please help me get rid of this stupid download. I realize that I have an old operating system, but if you had my income, then you would not be able to upgrade either. Please help me restore my Adobe InDesign into a workable application so I can get my resume out...I need a job. Any help you give me will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Here is what worked:
    1. When I launched an Adobe application, I was getting an error message with a title bar that read:
    "Updating Adobe Online components from Adobe.com"
    The error message read:
    "Downloading: File 2 of 2...
    No personal information is being transmitted.
    File: AWEDBFiles4.awe
    To: Macintosh HD:Library:Application Support:Adobe:Web:"
    The download would not end...it went on for hours.
    2. In order to stop the downloads, I had to "Force Quit" the applications that I was trying to launch.
    3. I went to the downloading file named on the error message:
    "AWEDBFiles4.awe"
    and trashed the file.
    I noticed another file (a text file) with a similar name in the same directory:
    "AWEXFiles.txt"
    when I opened the text file it read:
    "we're sorry. Please try again later."
    I trashed that file too and emptied the trash.
    4. I exited all open applications and shut down the computer.
    5. I booted up the computer WITHOUT powering up my DSL line and modem.
    6. I went to an Adobe application, in this case, Photoshop and to the "Help" pulldown menu and clicked:
    "Adobe Online"
    "Preferences"
    "Update Options"
    and clicked
    "Never"
    7. I exited Photoshop and shut down the computer.
    8. I booted up the DSL line and modem and then the computer.
    9. All is good.

  • How to make a never-ending(looping) page in DW?

    I want to make a page which repeats itself on the ipad when you scroll in any direction. In essense a never ending page.
    Jus began using HTML5 for our app.

    Hi
    You can do this just by repeating the code, but this is a sure way to stop anyone visiting your site -
    The 'new' page is downloaded every time, (complete waste of bandwidth).
    Your user will think that there is something wrong, so will go somewhere else.
    On mobile devices bandwidth is now often limited and/or paid for.
    A site that just repeats itself will on devices that can display the entire page download all the pages, ad infinitum.

    -My wifi connection is running strong
    -All the devices run the same version of iOS

    Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
