Imovie'11 NO me importa vídeos
Que tal todos
Desde hace un tiempo se me presenta el problema de que al importar mis peliculas(.mov, mpg4,etc) cualquiera sea el formato, realiza todo el proceso de carga, importar miniaturas y una vez finalizado no aparece ningun video cargado, aveces me aparece en buzon de espera, pero tampoco aparece video cargado. Lo desinstalado y reinstalado infinitas veces pero nada. No anuncia ningun error ni nada, simplemente no carga.

Apple no longer sells iDVD but you can buy any retail version of iLife from your favourite software vendor, and install only the iDVD app.
Once installed, update it to the latest version iDVD 7.1.2:

1. How much free space is there on Your - Start-Up (Mac OS) Hard Disk ?
2. Is there other hard disks ?
3. HOW is it/they formatted ? (Must be - Mac OS extended (hfs) to work for VIDEO)
4. Free space on this/them ?
5. Did You try to trash - iMovie pref. file ? (often helps)
6. Repair Permissions - also something that might help.

Confused about how imovie converted clips on import
So, I brought a bunch of movies into iMovie, which were saved as h.264 (bit rate 5000), in a 1280 X 720 size, with the .m4v file extension. Dragged them into iMovie events. Then, after all the clips were brought in, I looked at the files in the events folders, and some of them had been converted to: AIC codec with a bit rate of 36,336. The most confusing aspect of this is that only some of the clips were converted, while others remain in their original format, even though they were all brought in together. There's a tremendous difference in file size. The question then is: why were some clips converted and other clips not converted?

A Wild Suggestion - By not using iMovie'08 to 11
You want a DVD and as good as possibly I guess then iM'08 to 11 are not tools of choice as Your miniDV tapes are interlaced SD-Video and non of them can in any way I know of Export over to iDVD this but only every second line = Less quality
If You use - iMovie HD6 - then (Not Share to iDVD - but)
• close iMovie when done and import the Movie Project (icon with a blac Star on it) into iDVD. Now iDVD will render and does this So Much Better
• AND - You import Your miniDV tapes in sequence - same as it/they was recorded.

Imovie '09 won't import '08 files HELP!
I imported all my camera contents into iMovie '08 and all worked well. Later, my hard drive crashed so I upgraded to iMovie '09 with the new hard drive. My iMovies files were retrieved from an external hard drive backup. When I try to import the new files, IMovie '09 will not read them--it's like the files are empty (but they really aren't). Some are .mov files, some .dv files. Any suggestions?
Hi Suzq - don't want to alarm you, but are you aware of the following when importing video from iMovie HD projects:
Only the source video is imported; any additions or changes you’ve made to the video in your project are not imported. When you import video from iMovie HD projects:
● All clips from the clip viewer are added to a new Event.
● All clips from the timeline are added to a new project.
● Any clip that was dragged into the project from the Finder is not added to the new project.
● All transitions are replaced by cross-dissolve transitions.
● No titles or effects that were applied to the video are transferred to the new project.
● No music is transferred to the new project.
● Any clip that was dragged into the project from the Finder is not imported; only video clips that were imported from a camcorder into the original iMovie HD project are imported to the new project.

I have iMovie 2011 and I imported PowerPoint slides with a soundtrack. Now I want to delete a small highlighted clip and it won't let me no matter what I do! Rosemary
First off....do NOT install MacKeeper! It creates more problems than it prevents, and is a royal pain to get rid of once you realize this.
What I would do, since it sounds like you don't want to reorganize your email filing by the use of Smart Mailboxes, is to simply use the search box at the top of the Mail window to find only the emails you want to delete....then select them all and delete them. For example, if you wanted to delete all of the emails from [email protected], you would type that into your search box, which will filter your inbox to only show you emails from [email protected] Then Select All, and delete them. You haven't deleted any others....only those from that person.
Then clear the search box to see the rest of your emails again.
Repeat this process to delete emails from other senders you no longer need.
(Once you've selected them all, by the way, you can control-click one if you need to save it). -
HELP--Problem iMovie 11 quitting in import
Hello---I've created a few DVDs using iMovie and then iDVD. This time I'm having all kinds of problems. iMovie keeps crashing during import, or won't import, or freezes import. I've searched for solutions online and in other apple support threads, and one of the things advised is to delete the iMovie preferences file--but I can't even find it on my computer, even when I do a search! The file is supposed to be called: com.apple.iMovieApp.plist ... however it doesn't show up at all. HELP--I'M ON A VERY TIGHT DEADLINE. I'm running Mac OS X Lion Version 10.7.5 and have a mid-2012 Macbook Pro machine
Are you using a camera that shoots in AVCHD? If so that is because it is compressed on the camera, when imported it is uncompressed on the computer.
That is why you make a backup of the footage from the camera, to save space. -
If I have an iMovie project and I import ten 2 gig clips then it copies all ten of the 2 gig clips into the project file.
Is there a way I can stop this? I do not want it to take up so much space and time.
Can't it some how link to the original files?

quit iM...
in Finder, ctrl-click on that file, choose "show content"
drag'n drop/move your 2gig files into "media" folder
next time you launch your project, it will ask you what to do with these files ...
this works ONLY with iM conform dv streams ...

How do you get iMovie 11 to save imported photos at a higher resolution
When you import a picture into iMovie 11 from Aperture or iPhoto, iMovie creates an copy of the picture at a lower resolution and uses that picture in the video. It is often blurry and of worse quality than the original and looks bad in HD. Some of the copies (reveal in Finder) are only 200k.
You can fix this by dragging a higher quality photo from Finder on top of the same photo in iMovie and choose "replace". Thereafter iMovie looks to the photo you dragged in for the source of the image. I'm finding that the difference is often dramatic in terms of the finished video. It's hard to tell how iMovie is making its decisions because some of the pictures it creates are okay and can be close to 1mb in size. There's no indication of what it's going to do with a photo or why and no apparent way to configure it.
Does anyone know how to get iMovie to take pictures from Aperture and iPhoto and not degrade them? In other words, to control the quality (e.g. image size, compression, whatever the heck it's doing) of imported photos?
Thanks.I'm having a similiar problem and I'm sure it didn't happen with the previous version of iMovie. I'm importing images from Aperture and building both SD & HD slideshows (for iDVD & and a stand-alone MP4/MOV video) and adding the images & HD video to the DVD assets manually.
For me, the issue isn't the preview quality as revealed in the finder (I cleared the Aperture previews and reset them to unlimited so the file sizes are several MBs at full resolution) but iMovie seems to degrade the quality on both it's full-screen playback and any exported HD video.
I can't seem to find any setting in iMovie that explains the degradation so I'm assuming it's just poor downscaling but any help would be gratefully appreciated. -
IMovie still fails to import H.264 properly
With the release of 10.6.3 and iMovie 8.0.6 I made a new try importing H.264 1080i50 from my Samsung HMX-H105. See the following thread for the old discussion:

In the current release,
1) Importing without optimizing, the aspect ratio is wrong inside iMovie as before
2) Importing with Optimize Full gives an AIC file with the correct resolution
3) Importing with Optimize Large gives an AIC file with the wrong resolution (1706x504)
Problems with 2) are that the conversion takes time, quality is degraded and file size is increased.
Playback in QT Player has changed in 10.6.3. Motion blur is now added and the interlacing is a lot less visible when I play the original files from the camera.
Does anyone know which parts of H.264/AVC are properly implemented in iMovie?
Can I add anything to my system to alter the way iMovie handles H.264?
Are there other editing software for the Mac with better H.264 support?

Anyway, thanks for your help. I converted to AIC using MPEG Streamclip as you described. The resulting looks the same or very close to the the original when played in QT, and the file can be imported into iMovie without the problems that I get with the original H.264 file.
So, I wonder why QT and MPEG Streamclip can read the file while iMovie fails to do it properly?
About Apple's list of camcorders. The Samsung HMX-H105 is very recently released and I would have been surprised if it had been on Apples list. Surely there must be cameras NOT on the list with H.264 files that import to iMovie? It would be nice to understand better why some H.264 file import ok and some do not.
Have Apple published the H.264 profiles and levels that it is compatible with? Isn't Quicktime used for importing?
Will going through AIC significantly decrease the quality of my recordings, it will be a re-compress using MPEG2, right? I noticed that IMovie was a lot snappier working with AIC compared to H.264 (at least with my partially failed import), that is a plus. The file size, of course, is not.
From MPEG Streamclip, I get the following file info of the original. Is there anything in it that stands out as peculiar? Why 25 fps and not 50i or something?

I tried to import a perfectly crisp unpixelated screen recording to iMovie and when it imported it became very pixelated and fuzzy I tried exporting it but it was still fuzzy! I looked back at the original recording that wasnt imported and it wasnt fuzzy.
I solved it. When I imported I hit the optimise large button instead just stay to the original.

IMovie '09 Won't Import HD Content from Sony HDR-SR11 Camcorder
Hi,
iMovie stopped importing HD content from Sony HDR-SR11 camcorder. It only recognizes the standard definition content in the preview thumbnails. Previously this used to work with both a FireWire cable and a Mini USB. All of a sudden it doesn't import HD clips. There's no plugin failure either, because I reinstalled iMovie '09.
System Specifications:
Intel iMac 20" (Late 2008)
Intel Core 2 Duo@ 2.4 GHz.
4 GB RAM
Snow Leopard (10.6.4)

I am new into the Apple Community. I have a camcorder known as the JVC GZ-HD40 US and I currently am trying to use iMovie 2009 to edit my movies. With my camcorder, I have the choice to use two different video formats: AVCHD or Mpeg2. All my videos are shot in the AVCHD (HD) file format. This camcorder also has a 120 G Hard Drive built into it. When I plug in the camcorder through USB to my MacPro, the Hard Drive of the camcorder shows up as a icon on the desktop. Many of my video clips are at least thirty minutes in length, inside the camcorder. When I try to import in iMovie my video files, it only imports around ten minutes of the video and skips to the end of the clip. I would greatly prefer to use my MacPro desktop to edit movies instead of my Windows 7 computer which seems to work fine. Is there a solution to this problem? Would the new iMovie 2011 application solve this problem? I also have the Final Cut Express to work with, and also, can't get it to work. What should I try doing?Hi all,
I have the exact same problem. I've just been to Thailand with my girlfriend, and we recorded a lot of stuff with my brand new Sony HD camcorder. And whenever the we ran out of camcorder memory we just emptied everything onto my HP laptop using the supplied Sony software, which produced m2ts files. When we got home, I realized that my Mac Pro/iMovie09 was not able to import this format. What a huge disappointment! Especially considering the fact that I just bought my mac back in March (my first mac ever) only for video editing and music composing (no problems with music composing, however!).
Well, I needed a solution, so last week I just bought the Voltaic HD converting software (35$), and it works great. No problems. Only thing is that my Mac Pro (quad intel core) had to work 24 hours a day for four straight days/nights in order to finish the converting job - resulting in 434 GB worth of mov-files. This is no problem as such, and the quality is great. BUT it seems rather stupid that this converting has to take place. If I use Sony Vegas on my PC, it works out of the box with my original m2ts-files. And I would really appreciate if Apple would implement a simple import function of m2ts-files in their software - one that would (if necessary) automatically convert the files to mov. Or even better: would work natively with the m2ts-files.

10.6 School Network - iMovie 11 Crashes when Importing - insufficient privileges
A network recently upgraded from 10.5 to 10.6 and iLife from 9 to 11
Exporting Movies from I Can Animate to the network Home Folder and then importing into iMovie for editing, iMovie decided that the file didn't exist the first time then subsequently crashed on the second attempt.
Trialed a test exporting from iMovie and importing back into iMovie. This worked
First port of call, update the software.
Tried importing again. New message, insufficient privileges.
Solution:
Go to the shared drive where the Home Folders are located on the server. Use the righ click get info option rather than using WGM or Server Admin. Add the Student user group to the Sharing and Permissions area and apply to all enclosed folder.
This appears to fix the problem. I can only assume that the upgrade of either OS X or iLife had reset the privileges. I'll be keeping an eye on it and I'll be adding to this thread if the issue arises again.An alternative solution....for now. If you copy the files to your desktop or in any other folder you want them (it's temporary), you can still import them in iMovie. Just click Archive, Import, Movies and search for the folder you put your files in. I did it several times with success, that means no error! Now I can use my files and edit them in iMovie. You can delete the files on the desktop, since iMovie has copied the files into the iMovie library.
Another possibility is drag and drop the files from your desktop directly into an event. iMovie will copy the files into the library. For both options I am not sure if analysation for stability en recognising persons had been done while importing, but I guess you can do that later on.
Do not make the mistake of importing them in Aperture or iPhoto, drag and drop it an iMovie-event and delete it in Aperture/iPhoto... You will only hear the audiostream, you will see miniatures in iMovie, though your videostream is gone. That's how I lost the first video of my second daughter .
Until there's a good solution or update from Apple it works for me. I hope it does for you too! -
IMovie HD refuses to import .MOV clips that it used to import.
I've got an odd problem. Doing a search didn't turn up anything relevant to my situation so I'm gonna try to pick some brains on here.
My Problem: My version of iMovie(5.0.2) no longer recognizes .mov clips that it used to. Meaning that when I try to import clips using settings that worked previously, I am now confronted with an Error during import message that reads "The file could not be imported: Unknown Error". Two things have changed since I last made a project.
1.) I have added a microphone that now allows me to record stereo audio. I don't think this is the culprit.
2.) I updated to 10.6.6 Recently. I think this may be what messed things up.
After trying to Drag and also import clips through the menu with no success, I tried to import clips that I have used before under the exact same conditions and was greeted with the same error. This is importing using the HDV 720p setting. If I try to import new or old clips using the standard DV (16:9) setting then everything works.
These same clips are able to be imported into iMovie '09 with no trouble but I am uncomfortable with that interface. Is there anything I can do to continue to work in iMovie HD or would I just be better off with getting used to iMovie 09?
Thank you for any replies.I have Mac 10.6.6 and use iMovie 05 transferring it to iDVD 08. It is getting less easy to do, but usually i make the movie in 05, complete with chapter marking and press the export to DVD.
The file for the Movie I have made is saved automatically in the Movie folder on my owner/home page. To get it out to iDVD 08 open 08 and select create new project and click save This puts a small file into Documents, However to get your work into the new DVD select import>video and when the screen opens for you to find it go to your movie folder in your owners area and click to open the file. It works, but there is usually a problem somewhere along the line. Usually a different one each time, occasionally it goes like clockwork. It won't work if you try the drop down 'open' option.
This last time I got so irritated that I've downloaded the last set of film clips to 05 and then transferred them to 08 to compare the results. I still feel that the later versions are less good (?dumbed down) and await to be converted. -
IMovie can no longer import video from camcorder.
I have been using iMovie '09 with a Sony DCR-SR85 camcorder for over a year with no problems. Suddenly, I cannot import from the camera anymore. With the camera connected and the disk image mounted, I run iMovie and click on the camera import button. It sees my camcorder (it says, "Sony DCR-SR85), then it spins its wheels and status bars for several minutes before it stops detecting the camera. Then, clicking the camera import gives me only the built-in iSight, with no option for the connected camera.
I have searched for other threads on this issue, but have only found solutions that don't seem to apply to me. In one instance, there was an elaborate procedure for rebuilding an AVCHD file structure. This camera records in MPEG-2, not AVCHD. The other solution was that iMovie cannot import SD videos in the same batch as HD videos. Since this camera has no HD capabilities, this does not apply, either.
Can anyone offer some suggestions? There are nearly 800 clips on this camcorder, the newest of which I need to import into iMovie so I can work on them. If there is some sort of corruption on the camcorder, is there an easy way to find it? If I need to reformat the camcorder hard drive, is there a way to import all the MPEG files on the camera's hard drive into iMovie? I tried dragging them from the camera's directory into iMovie, but that didn't work.If 2 computers do not detect the camera then the issue is not the computer / iMovie.
Potential issues:
1.) The mode the camera is in. Make sure it is configured for PC Connect or Mass Storage mode. Check your manual to determine what the required mode is for your camera.
2.) The cable you are using between camera and computer is bad.
3.) Physical failure in the camera itself.
Try plugging the camera directly into the computer using USB (no hubs) while running on AC power and cycle through the various connection modes. See if the camera mounts on the desktop (as I assume it does normally).
If it fails to mount on either computer I would call Sony so they can verify the camera is in fact functional and even ask them what mode you need to be in for the computer to recognize it.
