Imovie'11 PIP won't place video clip on timeline

Using Imovie'11 (on latest version) and YES I have advance features turned on:
I want to add a PIP clip (or cutaway or side by side). When I drag a new clip over it and let go the new clip goes before (or after) the existing clip. I don't get the popup sub menu to add the PIP cutaway etc.
I tested with a photo and it works fine - so I know I have advance features turned on.
Any thoughts/help?

My iMovie 8.06 won't import PAL clips in MPEG-2/AC3 format. I converted the clip using Toast 11 twice, once to h.264/AAC and once to MPEG-4/AAC, both of which Quicktime Player 10 will play but iMovie refuses to import. Suggestions appreciated. Does iMovie '11 fix this?

IMovie 09 - synching new sound to video clip

Hi all iMovie users. I am trying to synch my improved sound track to video. I drag the new sound track to the approx right place in the iMovie clips having muted the clip but if I drag the green sound bar it is too fierce; if I use the arrow keys to correct "too early/too late" nothing seems to happen. I have been trying for quite a few hours. Any suggestions please very gratefully received

I would recommend the following:
1) Set the thumbnail slider in the Project window to 1/2 second. This will enable you to slide the green bar left or right frame by frame.
2) Open the video clip and (temporarily) set the volume to 100%.
3) Click the button to show the audio waveforms. You should see the waveforms for the new audio track as well as the video so you have some visual cues to line them up exactly. Look for a peak or a gap in the audio. This makes it easier to line up (like the old hollywood clappers).
4) Drag the frame back and forth using the audio cues and the visual cues. When you have it lined up exactly, set the volume of the original video track to zero. Set the thumbnail slider back to where you usually keep it.
One more thing: If you cannot drag frame by frame, go to iMovie/Preferences and put a check mark next to Display Time as hh:mm:ss:frames.

In iMovie on the iPad: Recombining two video clips

I am using iMovie on the iPad (iOS 8.1.1.). I have a project where I split a video clip into two parts. I wanted to put a title that runs across both clips but it fades in and out so it doesn't stay on the screen for the entire two clips. I can't undo because I've made too many other changes since I split the original clip. Is there a way to recombine these two clips so that I can run a single title across the entire clip?

I have come up with a workaround, but would like something better. I originally sent the video to iTunes from within
The iMovie program.
I then transferred it to my pc and it was in dv format. I did not see any options for saving it in another format. If it is possible to save it in something the pc can read and ultimately that fCebook can read, I would appreciate knowing how. Yes, I do have QuickTime.
What I ended up doing was buying an app called "photo transfer app". First I saved the video to the camera roll. Then I used the app to wirelessly transfer the iMovie video to my pc and then I was able to upload it to Facebook. It was all very slow and inefficient. When I save a video to the camera roll it saves it in the .MOV format.
I was also able to transfer the video from iPad to pc by saving to the camera roll and then importing the video into Adobe Bridge CS5
Isn't there a more direct way of saving a video to the pc from within imovie in a format it recognizes?

Why won't my video clips open?

As of about 2 weeks ago video clips emailed to me won't open, especially Utube clips but also clips on CNN,com,etc. The same urls in the same emails open and run perfectly on my wife's MacBook Air. so it must not be the sender or email but my Mac specifically. I don't recall blocking anything or changing preferences. All suggestions are welcomed. Thanks. (PS, I logged in to Utube which didn't help.)

IMovie forcing pillarboxing on 16:9 video clip

I have a DV Widescreen (16:9 aspect ratio) project and I am trying to import a 16:9 aspect ration video clip that I made in some animation software. I have "Automatic DV Pillarboxing and Letterboxing" deselected in iMovie's preferences, BUT everytime I import the 16:9 video into iMovie, iMovie insists on squishing it horizontally and adding pillarboxing to the sides of the video clip so that the video is distorted and useless.
How can I fix this?

That worked, thanks. MPEG Streamclip has saved the day for me a few times in the past when Apple products weren't cutting it so I am glad it's out there.
iMovie was jealous at first and wasn't playing nice with the clips - when I added transitions, iMovie was cutting parts of the different clips in here and there where I hadn't edited. The solution was deleting the transitions I had added, quitting iMovie and starting it again then adding the clips again after the restart.

Imovie for iphone - no picture with video clips

After upgrading my imovie app to fix the export problem, some of the video clips in my movie show only a black screen instead of the video. The video clips were all taken with the iphone and all played well within imovie before I upgraded the app and still play fine outside of imovie.
I have tried deleting the project and starting over and I tried removing the app and resinstalling, but niether of these resolved the problem. Has anyone else encountered these problems?
Update - the problem seems to occur only if I try to shorten a video within imovie. Since I have begun editing the videos before importing to imovie the problem hasn't happened yet.

Thanks for the reply. The movie starts with a 3 second video followed by several pictures then another 3 second video followed by the video I shortened 11 seconds to 7 seconds within imovie. When one video goes black, they all seem to go black.
But to your second question, I checked the adjacent transitions and all were set to cross disolve 1 second. When I changed the transition on the back-side of the first video to none, the picture within the video came back.
So I changed all of the video transitions to none and they all came back. Of course after doing this I had to play around a little bit and oddly enough so far the picture has stayed even when I switch the transition back to cross disolve 1 second.
So at this point I haven't been able to re-create the problem but if it does happen again I'm happy that I now have a way to get the picture to come back.

Video clip won't follow Audio clip on timeline

When i drag a clip onto the timeline, the video clip for example ends up on track V1 and the audio on A1 and A2. So far so good. But when I want to drag my video clip to track V2, one would expect the audio clip to move to A3 and A4. This does NOT happen. The audio clips are still on track A1 and A2. Does anyone have a solution for this?

While I know of no way to move both the audio and video tracks up or down together, I can offer two ways get them on the desired tracks in the first place:
when dragging, hover the mouse over the track you want to the clip to land on
In the Timeline, set Source Patching to the desired tracks, then use the Insert or Overlay command instead of drag-n-drop.
Once a clip is in a sequence on the "wrong" track, as far as I'm aware you're stuck moving the audio and video separately. I encourage you to submit a feature request: www.adobe.com/go/wish (and that's not just a canned suggestion; I'd love to have a shortcut for doing this!)

IPhoto won't download video clip

I was downloading my pictures to iPhoto 5 and the last video clip did not download. The clip is still on the camera but iPhoto won't download it. It recognizes that there is one item to import, but nothing shows up in the import bar and nothing comes up in iPhoto after it is done. The clip plays fine on my camera. All the other photos and video clips downloaded fine. Has anyone experienced this and can it be fixed?

P E 10 won't display video clips

In PE 10 Organizer when try to play a video clip the following error msg is displayed: "The selected file cannot be played because your system does not have the required compresser/decompressercodec) installed". The files imported from my camcorder as .mts. They run in Windows Media Player but not in Quik Time Player. Earlier .mts file have run in PE 10 but they are no longer runing either. I can't find where one should make a configuration adjustment. Any one have any ideas? I'm running win 7 on an i7 processor. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

How did you get this video from your camcorder to your computer? Did you use the Premiere Elements Get Media tool?
Have you opened a new Premiere Elements project yet using the settings for AVCHD video?
What model of camcorder did this video come from and what settings and format did you shoot it in?
There are components which Premiere Elements will activate and install on your system if you set up a program for this type of video and use the Get Media tools to download it from your camcorder. We can help you set up your project to do this if you give us details about your camcorder and, if your camcorder shoots in more than one format, which format you shot your video in.
If this is not video from a camcorder, that's a whole other issue, as the program which created it may not have used codecs the program can work with.

HT3775 Why won't a video clip play all the way through without stopping and loading so many times?

Any video clip that comes via email will not play all the way through without stopping so many times to load that a short clip takes 10 minutes to watch. Sometimes, the video simply stops and loads forever and ceases to work at all.
This happens for Youtube videos also.
I am using a Snow Leopard Imac.

Uninstall the currently installed Flash plugin then reinstall new.
Very important to uninstall the old first.
Uninstall > Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Then reinstall new from here > http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Then restart your Mac.

Journal won't play video clip in iCloud

I created a journal on my iPod Touch (4G) with pictures and a video clip and then published my journal to iCloud. My question is why I get the error message "An error occured while playing this video" when I view my journal using Safari on the iCloud Journal site? The pictures can be viewed just fine but no the video clip?

I have no clue how that got turned off, but now I know in case it happens again.

Jim's idea was also good..It worked for me and also safe if I need to use the original audio. Following method also found good...but previous audio clip cannot be extracted after deleting it. ... 1. Hold down "ALT" key first then select the first audio clip in the chain of video clips to Delete. 2. Hold down " Shift + Alt " keys together and click right mouse button on all audio clips to be deleted one by one. Make sure only audio clips are selected. 3. Then release ALT+Shift keys and then click right mouse button and select "Clear" from pull down menu to Delete all selected audio clips on the time line. This method works very well for me. Thanks for every one who has adviced me how to do it. Thanks guys... If u all find better method tha above...please inform us. Thx.

IMovie-it possible to add a video clip into an existing piture?????

if i have an existing picture, (still), is it possible to cut a small clip from a movie, and place it on the picture? If so, obviously the picture would stay still, but would the movie keep rolling????

you're looking for a socalled 'pic-in-pic' effect..
unfortunately, iM08 only supports a still on a video, not a video on a still..
you need tools as QuicktimePro or advanced editors as FinalCutExpress to accomplish such an effect.
