Imovie 11 - use photos in trailer?

Does anyone know if photos can be used instead of movie clips in the trailer drop zones? I'm trying everything - maybe not possible?

You could always convert you images into one image slideshow movies in iMovie. You can set the length to any duration you need. You could also apply a Ken Burn's effect if desired.

How do I use photos in imovie if the photo browser is not active. When I click on the camera icon on the right middle of the page, it does nothing no highlight or nothhing to show that its active. I do have photos in iphoto.

It might help to trash your Preferences files. Especially, the com.Apple.iapps.plist file.

if bandwidth is an issue, because you're hosting on your own servers, consider the free codec xh264, you can install as a free QT-plug-in.. with low or super-low bitrates, it offers a superior quality compared to h264 ...

Using photos in iMovie

When using photos in iMovie, I want to be able to change the duration of a photo, within a group of photos, without affecting the duration of the other photos in the clip. Each time I change the duration of one photo, it alters the duration of the rest of the photos. Is there a way to change the duration of one photo without changing the others.

Each type of iMovie 6 project has its own minimum image size — minimum pixel height and width — and aspect ratio.
Try to forget everything you know about DPI, resolution, and related terms. iMovie doesn't care about them. It only cares about the pixel dimensions.

Don't use BMPs. They acquire a red shift when imported with the Ken Burns checkbox turn ON.

There are 30 frames in one second of video. So you can specify down to the frame level, which is 1/30th of a second.
Is the Duration box switching to some other time every time you type in 1:45:00?
For instance this is a 5 second clip plus 3 frames. To get this set properly I would type in 1:45:00, then click done. I don't know if it is different under older versions of iMovie, as I'm using iMovie '11 for thisi example.

How do I get imovie to use Photoshop Elements 12 as external editor? I am making a movie slide show with music from my Caribbean vacation photos and adding text captions to photos in PS Elements 12. I can also add some effects to photos like edge blur although I like iphotos effects better but iphoto doesn't seem to do text. The finished PS Elements photo doesn't seem to want to be shared by iphoto which is what imovie uses...
I am still learning to use PS Elements 12 for Mac (had PSE 7 for WinVista but wasn't proficient) and Mac and it's programs are new to me. I switch between my old Dell which is still amped for graphics and the new Mac mini. I started to use Movie Maker to do my vacation project but read that imovie was better but so far it doesn't seem to have as broad of file useage when it comes to imovie and photo files.

You simply need to create your stills with Photoshop Elements, save them in a suitable format (.jpg, .png, .tiff are all acceptable) then drag and drop them into your iMovie timeline. You don't have to use iPhoto.

How do i convert the wmv file that i have imported from my PC to mac into a format that iMovie can use? And which is the best file format? why can i play the file but not import it to iMovie?

Winston has got good advise. The F4M free download allows you to play wmv and it will even allow you to convert them, however, only in a limited way. To get full functioning, you have to purchase a license. However, if you do this a lot, then it could be worth it.
I found the following info on this forum about compatible files:
iMovie '08 will only allow you to to import files containing compression formats that can be edited. If your AVI file won't import, it likely means that the audio and/or video data is not editable. To import it, you will have to first convert it to any of the acceptable compression formats. For video this means DV, AIC, M-JPEG, Photo-JPEG, MPEG-4, or H.264.

IMovie v10 stretches photos... iMovie '11 (v9) works fine

I have just been upgraded to iMovie v10. Photos that are in an iMovie v9 project that has been 'updated' seem to be stretched. I've played with fit and crop in v10 and no change in aspect - all remained stretched. The original v9 settings were cropped with Ken Burns, and cross image transitions applied to some (xfade, etc.).
The same project opened in V9 still fine... hallelujah!
New projects created in v10 with photos displayed with ken Burns is fine, no stretching.
Does anyone know how the update process can be completed without streching the aspect of the photos? The only alternative is to keep v9 for old projects and create new projects with v10.... a little cumbersome!
Any thoughts would be gratefully received.

Only photos appear stretched, movies look fine - it definitely looks like the photos are 'fitted' not 'cropped' even though I am using Ken Burns on all photos in
The project output aspect ratio in v9 is 16:9 PAL 25 fps, and in v10 it's 1080p HD. However, if I create a new video project in v10 with the same photos, it appears fine, photos are "ken burns'ed" perfectly, no stretching; only photos updated from v9 to v10 appear stretched in the updated v10 project.
The original photos are: 5184 x 3888 pixels (aspect ratio of: 4:3) jpegs.

Trouble with iMovie Hi-Definition photos

I have used impvie for a long time, and I have never had any trouble with it. I am currently making an imovie with many photos. It seems that the higher quality photos don't play when I put them in the project. The previous photo simply replays but looks distorted. What should I do?

What type of photos - jpgs, tiff files?
And at what size?

How can I force iMovie to reload photos that have been edited?

I put a movie together in iMovie and used many photos. Later I decided to edit some of them. I did that on my PC and resynced my photo library on my iPad2. When I go back into iMovie, it's still showing the old versions of the photos (pre-editing), which no longer exist. So the old versions must be cached somewhere. Is there a way to force iMovie to reload all of the photos. I tried loading another iMovie project then going back, but that didn't help. I also had iMovie export the movie to the camera roll, thinking that it my reload the photos during that process, but that didn't work either.

Just to be clear, iMovie is still showing old versions of photos that no longer exist in the iPad's Photo Library.

Make a Video using Photo Booth?

I once made a video using photo booth and the built in isight camera. However, today I opened photo booth and cannot figure out how to switch it to video mode. It just takes pictures. I believe there use to be a switch on the interface to change it to video mode but I can't seem to find it anyway.
How do I do this? Did they update photo booth and remove that feature?
I want to use photo booth to shoot my quick online reviews and not imovie.

dolbinau is right! You need Leopard to use Photo Booth 2.

Not able to see/use photos in my Aperture library

I just started using iMovie 11 and although I can see my various projects within Aperture, when I select a specific project no photos show up in iMovie. On the other hand, I can see/use photos I have in iPhoto, but since I use Aperture for nearly all of my photos, I'd prefer not to have to go the route of moving photos from Aperture into iPhoto so I can use them in iMovie. Is there something I'm missing here? It would be nice to be able to see all my project photos from Aperture in iMovie.

I'm not real sure what I'm doing here. I tried what you suggested and also watched your video but I'm still confused since I'm not seeing/getting what you are showing on the video. If I go to my home library, there is a CACHE folder, when I click on it, a whole bunch of folders pop up among which are:
com.apple.imovieapp and com.apple.aperture If i click either of these folders, cache.db pops up. Are the com.apple.imovie & .aperture the cache folders I should be deleting?
Sorry I'm so ignorant about all this stuff....but I'm trying, really I am.

Im trying to make an iMovie film by using photos imported through iPhoto. I wish to place them into one of the thems without the ken burns efect. Im really baffled with this...i just dont know what to do...please help me!! :S
