IMovie 3--importing problem

I just imported one tape into iMovie and then I swithed tapes to import another but it doesn't seem to be doing the same thing and this is only minutes from when it last worked. When I click import it says camera pplaying on the blue screen but unlike a few minutes ago while importing the other tape, I can't see the movie on the screen or hear it. I tried quiting iMovie, turning the camera off anf then back on. Not quite sure what it is doing?

Did you record both tapes yourself on your camera?
Did you record both tapes as Standard Play (SP) and not Long Play (LP)?
Depending on your camera, iMovie may not support importing LP tapes.
Your camera may not be able to play LP tapes recorded on another camera.

  • Imovie Mac importing problem or Camcorder problem?

I run a small business for kids parties. I video the kids dancing along to a track they have recorded (played on a cd player). Then i import the video, turn off the camcorder sound and import the finished mixed track of their singing and sync the picture and audio together. This has been working perfectly for over a year. But unfortunately in the last month when i try to sync up the audio track with the video, it starts off synced up perfectly, but gradually as the video goes on the video and audio become out of sync and by the end the video is either too fast or too slow. this is a huge problem! I thought it may the tapes in the video camera so i changed them and it's still doing it. Is this a video camera problem or computer importing problem. Can anyone help as it's ruining the kids DVDs!

I am surprised it has ever worked. That can normally only be done with synched professional equipment. Maybe they changed the CD player at the performance and the old one happened to play at the same rate as your Mac when it imports? (There is a slight difference between the playback speed between different players)
Or perhaps your video camera has become slightly worn, so it pulls the tape slower?
There are endless possibilities for problems with your setup.
I think you should take a look at the "add scaled" tip at the bottom here:
    http://danslagle.dvmix.com/mac/iMovie/audio/1001.shtml
(Instead of adding the extracted audio from iMovie, you should add the CD audio.)

  • IMovie 5 import problem  -43 error

IMovie displays a -43 error when exporting or importing files
When using iMovie 5.02 I may get a -43 error message when you try to do the following:
    Import files into iMovie.
Export projects to QuickTime using iMovie's Share feature.
FAQ did not help me with this.

You state that the "movie clips cannot be found in the folder where they should be". I hope I understand your comment.
In iMovie 5.0X, the movie clips reside within a folder that in turn resides within a folder within the project folder. Just control click on the project file, select, Show Package contents and you will see a number of folders, including one called Media. The clips are there, all of them. But except for real problems you should not access the comtents of this folder at all. But, the new organization does not require you to locate the actual clips files to make a DVD. You can click on the make iDVD button within iMovie. This option allows you to create chapter markers. The other way is to select "Share" and then Quicktime from the File menu bar in iMovie. This creates a Quicktime movie, but you will not be able to add chapters. The quicktime file of your movie then can be imported into iDVD once you open iDVD yourself.
The first option also allows you to select just those clips on the time line you want to include in your DVD.
This is described in iMovie help.
I hope I have understood your comment.

  • Focus FS-4 Pro HD and iMovie 08 import problem

Just wondering if anyone out there is using a Focus FS-4 Pro HD successfully with iMovie 08 when shooting in HD mode/QuickTime format? Specifically...are you able to import HD video into iMovie 08 from the FS-4? DV works fine, but I cannot get iMovie (or QuickTime for that matter) to recognize the HD video when recorded in MT2 or QuickTime format on the FS-4. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. Focus actually just acknowledged the problem too. Sure wish we could record in HD on the FS-4 Pro and import the .mov into iMovie 08. DV works fine. Oh well...

  • IMovie HD Import Problem

Last week I could import a movie from my camcorder without problem. This week iMovie will rewind, FF, and Play my camcorder but will not Import. I have 77 Gig free disk on my Mac mini. I tried reverting to a backup copy of iMovie 5.0.2 (111). And then i ran the latest update of OS X. I also ran Yasu.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Howard

    Bengt,
I can't thank you enough cause I'm using iMovie 5.0.2 and the import function wouldn't work plus the tape info wasn't even playing on the iMovie mointor which was wierd cause it was working before. I was getting really worried so I end up looking on the internet to see if I can fix the problem and couldn't find any answer. I was about to buy iLife '06 but I saw your reply and I tried the crazy fix first and you what...it WORKED I was amazed. Because of that I just had to email you. So thank you I will definitely remember that next time.

    Hi Howard
It sounds scary as it is a copy of when I broke my
    camcorder. I happened to
put in the FW-6pin-connector upside down on the back
    of my Mac.
    Costly repair !
But first read my list and see if You can hit the
    problem:
    Mac:
    - hardware
◊ Slow hard disk (fragmented: repair permissions,
repair hard disk, use a faster hard disk)
    ◊ Reset PRAM
    ◊ Bad RAM-chips
◊ disconnect Mac from powerline (not just switch off,
really plug out) for a few minutes to reset FW ports
    - software
◊ File-Vault is on - turn it off
◊ Something is occupying the CPU/System, like other
    programs, Internet etc.
◊ Do You have desktop pictures or screen or
energy-savers active? Try turning them off.
◊ Updating - OS has to be a clean install - not an
update eg from X.3.x to X.4.x (no good) OS X.4.0-5
needs a clean install to work (I use X.3.9)
◊ Updating QT and/or other updates (to 7 needs v6 to
be cleaned out first) QT v.7.0.0-4 needs a clean
install to work (I use 6.5.2)
◊ Have you tried the crazy fix: Open GarageBand, play
a few notes, close it and reopen iMovie. The camera
    should import fine now. Sue/SDillini
◊ If You also have installed FinalCut Express/pro
there are possibly problems with this
    iMovie:
◊ remove bookmarks in iMovie project
    ◊ Trash: com.apple.iMovie.plist and
    com.apple.iMovie3.plist : files (Xinram)
    Connection:
◊ don’t Daisy chain Camcorder <--> external hard disk
    <--> Mac
◊ FW-wire cable, is it OK?
    ◊ USB/USB2 is NO GO !
    Camera:
◊ The Camera is set to VTR ? (not as when You ”film”
    record with it)
◊ defective camera TRY IT ON ANOTHER MAC ! (if the
A/D chip in the camera is harmed then it will say in
iMovie that the camera is connected and You can
forward rep. backward the tape but there will be no
picture or sound just the blue screen.
◊ Cheque the menu on Your Camera so that it
communicates with the FW digitally to Your Mac
◊ Date and Time is correct on Your Camera ?
    Tape:
◊ Drop outs on the miniDV-tape - make a camera to
camera copy on a tape which You have previous
recorded with a time code (dummy recording).
◊ Break in the time-code on the miniDV tape (make a
camera to camera copy on a tape which is pre-recorded
with nothing/anything so that the tape has a
time-code from beginning to the end)
    ◊ If You recorded in LP-mode (90 min on a standard 60
min tape with 12-bit sound). Try to change in iMovie
pref. to import but not as individual clips. If this
doesn’t work You have to make a Camera to Camera copy
with the receiving Camera set to SP-mode and 16-bit
    sound.

  • IMovie 08 Import Problems

    Hello,
I am a relatively new Mac user. I am trying my best to get a handle on using iMovie to make some movies to send out to family n such. I need some help I can not for the life of me figure out how to import my videos that I took with my Sony digital camera.
The Videos are already imported and on my hard drive and named in my iPhoto events. Its just when I try to take them and drag them into the iMovie project line or boxes it simply does not drop them into the line of events to work on.......
Please help mr bubble head new mac user cut a couple teeth here =)
Any and all help much appreciated!

    Hey,
thanks.....yeah I understand now that the film or movie clips need to be imported to the iMovie library before they can be processed and worked with. But that was not the problem; the problem was that I am using a Sony point & shoot and the format that the movies are stored in was "mpg" which is not supported by the Mac iMovie software....BUMMER!
So I had to go out on the web and get a converter to change the formatting over from "mpg" to a "dv" format. Then after it's converted to a dv file it can be imported to the iMovie library and I now can work with it.....PHEW....that was a mouth full!
    Thanks for your help!
Hope this helps anyone out there!

  • IMovie 08 import problem from Canon ZR500 via Firewire DV cable

I have the device hooked up. The import window can control the camcorder (play, stop, rew, etc.). But, when I do PLAY, no image displays on the iMovie import screen. So, it is not importing anything. Why is this? Connectivity is good, but no image transfer. I can see the image on the screen of the camcorder, but not on my iMac. What's up? Any ideas?

    Hi Bruce
There can be so many things to this: Most common to omitt.
    • Camera defective - test on another Mac (when the A/D-chip is blown it behaves exactly as You describe)
    • FireWire Cable faulthy - most common origin to this (can't figure why there are so many bad cables out there)
    • Test Your Mac with another Camera - eventually re-set the FW-port (on big Macs by disconnecting
    mains for 10 - 30 minutes on PBs I don't know)
I've got an old killingly long list if this doesn't help.

  • IMovie 8 Import Problem

So I need to import some movie files into iMovie to make a video for a department here.
However, it won't import the .mov files I need. I don't know much about Mac's, or iMovie - but codecs: DV/DVPRO - NTSC, DC, Tween, Text, TIFF
The files open in Quicktime Player, but won't import to my new project in iMovie - help please?
    Thank you.

You need to remove the Tween track and possibly the Text track. (if that is subtitles, you need to remove it). You can remove tracks in QuickTIme Pro. Or you could drag it into MPEG Streamclip and export it in a supported format like DV,DVPRO or AIC.
I am not familiar with DC. Is that the audio track?

  • Imovie HD import - problem with 16:9 format

I'm importing to imovie from my hard drive 16:9 quick time movies (converted from a mini-DVD with DVDxDV). Imovie keeps on transforming those into 4:3 format, resulting in serious image distorsions, and despite trying to set a 16:9 screen format. What can I do ?

an anamorphic image should never be permanently rescaled in order to retain the full video resolution of the image for future use, either for display on a widescreen monitor, or for enlarging to film
This is true if, and only if, the file retains its anamorphic setting. The QT Player is supposed to recognize and properly display display such files if the file retains its anamorphic information. To determine this, simply open the file and check the "Inspector" window. If the Format line says "720 x 576 (1024 x 576)," then the anamorphic flag data is in tact. On the other hand, if the Format, Normal, and Current lines all simply read "720 x 576," then the anamorphic data is gone. Your only option would be to re-export it to reset the flag during re-compression or change the display aspect ratio and save the change. Applications like iMovie HD would threat the file as a 1024 x 576 encoded file while applications like iMovie '08 which rely only on the anamorphic flag would ignore the change.
A better question here might be whether or not the original poster used the correct "Easy Setup..." option when creating the project so that the files were captured correctly.

  • Making a magic iMovie not magical. Having import problems

Everytime I start the import process of "making a magic iMovie", the import process will stop after inconsistent periods of time. Sometimes 5 minutes, sometimes 30 minutes. I've only had one 60 min tape import completely without interruption. I've changed firewire ports, opened Garageband and played a few notes, run mac sweeper. Nothing seems to work. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I too am experiencing the same problem. I have never been able to import a complete 60 min tape.
Last time I tried I had roughly 20 minutes of footage with no gaps in the timecode and the import process stoppped after 4 minutes with a brief message "No Device Control". The camcorder kept on playing but the import process stopped and iMovie continued to makes titles and add transitions as if there were no more video.
Does anyone know what might corrupt or interrupt the firewire device control?
I'm using a Canon ZR40 camcorder. I have 3 firewire external hard drives daisy chained to one of the firewire ports. Footage is being captured to one of the external drives.
The other port is used to connect the camcorder.

i have a kodak camera which i recorded video and i have and macbook labtop and when goes on imovie to import it cannot, what is my problem?

I found this previous post.  Does it help?
"Movie '09 and the Kodak Playsport HD".
His advice worked like a charm:
"This camera is a lot of fun and when i connected it to iMovie 09 I, in the first case, had to go to File, Import Movies and navigate to the SD card and choose all the .mov files which then imported seamlessly. Was able to edit and share the movie no problem."
    Hope this helps

  • Fixing import problem in iMovie HD

I found a fix for the importing problem some people have been experiencing in iMovie HD. A google search turned up this webpage
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/vt3/10228
I tried this and it worked. Basically the problem on import is linked to a Core Audio problem that can be resolved by opening Garageband and playing a few notes with the desktop keyboard. I had to do this a few times and try and play my video footage in iMovie a few times, but it eventually worked and I was able to import with no problem.

    Thanks for mentioning it.
There have been several mentions of this here in iMovie Discussions, but older messages 'drop off' the page, and so sometimes they're not visible any more.
    Thanks for the timely reminder.

  • IMovie import problems

I am having two problems with importing movies from my camcorder into iMovie.
iMovie thinks i have import an event and event shows the event in my library, however, the clips are not available unless the camcorder is connected to my Mac.  It is looking for the import device.
iMovie thinks i already imported an event but i can't locate the vent in the library and when i try to re-import the clips aren't available because iMovie must think they are already downloaded and doesn't need to duplicate the clips.  I know the clips are still on my camcorder because i can still view them on the camcorder.  Now i am afraid the delete the clips from the camera in fear that i will lose them all and my camera is full.
    Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
BTW, i am running the latest version of iMovie on a newly purchase MacAir.

    Hi,
I've had the same problem David has. I have used imovie for 7 years without any problems at all. (except user operated ones!) Now with good, solid equipment, nothing works.
I've had 2 problems importing imovie. First, let's get my system info down. Mac OSX 4.9, QuickTime 7, imovie hd 6.03.
    1. Last night the problem was - I'd connect the camera, open imovie, click import, but nothing would import. The camera played and was audible, but nothing was happening between the camera and the computer.
    2. After checking discussion boards today and trashing the pref. files, borrowing a different firewire cord from work, resetting the firewire ports - tonight I get the message that the camera is not connected.
Help, anyone. Please. I am supposed to be making an imovie this weekend for a retirement party next week. We finished filming and we decided I should do the imovie since I have the best equipment. Whoa! I REALLY need help now because I promised to have it finished.
    THANKS!

i am importing from an old canon es3000 hi-8 (analog) camera, through a miglia "director's cut" capture device, to imovie (via firewire) ... there is fragmented line at the bottom of the frame in imovie during import. will that show up in idvd later? also, the imovie is not seperating the clips, so i end up with one long clip. after about 10 minutes the digital footage in imovie becomes fragmented throughout the frame. does anybody know why this is happening? thanks in advance, R.B.
